Allie ~ What ever happened to Jean's mom. That time when you kept her was interesting to read about.
Yesterday I did a good deed by walking to my neighbor's house to deliver mail left in my box and I think I retore meniscus in my knee that really needs to be replaced. The dr trimmed the meniscus in this knee years ago. Taking extra strength acetaminophen for the pain and icing.

Carol, I was just thinking about Rebecca! Hope she's having a wonderful time. I think she was heading off to her sister's?
So sorry to hear about your knee. Darn. Hope icing and acetaminophen gets it feeling better fast.
I've been catching up on yard work and general cleaning these past few days. Cleaned the vacuum thoroughly this morning - no, I'm not bored, it's just been needing it!!
Also coming up is cleaning out and defrosting the freezer and shampooing the office carpet next week when the sunshine returns. I discovered my little Rosie the schnauzer hasn't been happy with the repairmen and installers making noise in the garage with the new heat pump and then garage door repairman a couple nights ago. She's 5 and never a problem after being housebroken as a puppy, so I know this is stress related for her.
She has been through a lot this past several months losing her buddy Sophie and then her dad. The fireworks scared her last night so I picked her up and put her in bed with me like when she was a puppy and she settled right down.
I can see (smell) a bath for her is coming up in the near future.
I once had a baby gate to keep her corralled in the kitchen, but donated it to the thrift shop a couple years ago. I could probably use it now, but found a fan that pretty well fits that office doorway to keep her out.

grandmallie wrote: »Heather- I so enjoyed your trip its like when i was young and went to travelogs with my grandma..so much fun..
Debbie- my FIL could drive the angels crazy.. but I learned a few things along the way.. can you find out what music she liked as a young woman,my FIL loved ol Blue eyes so Frank Sinatra we played alot for him.. Prime days are coming up.. if you can pick up a cheap echo dot to put in her bedroom and put music she likes it helps so very very much,we even did that for Jeans mom.. just set it up through Pandora or some other device and you should be ready to go..
Lisa- you crack me up girl..i wouldn't touch Okra with a 1 10 ft pole..
I made the mistake of going to Costco around noon today.. gee you would think everyone would be out doing picnics ,but no everyone and there brother was shopping..I darn near had a panic attic but i picked up my script and a couple of other things and split..
Im home now and going to rest with Alfie now.
not sure what music she listened to- some Japanese, no doubt. We keep the Japanese tv channel on for her most of the time in the living room- that is where she stays all the time.1 -
Hi Gals,
Allie – Costco on a weekend is equal to a horror movie in my mind. Interesting that Sean and Jean have multiple care givers but actually have to pay them….. you knew they were taking advantage of you.
Debbie – I know very very little about Japanese music, but there must be some list on line of the top songs during what ever years she was a teen. Do you or hubby read Japanese? Thinking googling might be more successful in Japanese.
Carol – did you fall or badly twist your knee in the walk over? I would be surprise to hear that just a walk could re-tear the meniscus, I had mine surgically cleaned up when I had an ACL replacement (years ago) and I have not retorn mine and done a lot more crazy things than walking to the neighbor. I am hoping it is just tired from a longer walk than it usually gets.
Machka – Delighted to hear that you and DH made such a long ride, what a drag it was so cold. It looks like you were riding for 4 ish hours, do you take breaks for food/water?
Lisa – I did not realize that your daughter was not Corey’s bio daughter, is his son? His (and your) commitment to the kids tells the world he is a top notch guy.
Katla – so glad your children are there with you. I know there is a lot on your plate right now, but their help in getting the boat ready to sell might be worth talking about. Sending good thoughts that DH will be home for the 4th.
Sending love to all.

Quoting James Clear (Atomic Habits author) ...
"The impact created by a change in your habits is similar to the effect of shifting the route of an airplane by just a few degrees"
" Image you are flying from LA to NY City. If a pilot leaving from LAX adjusts the heading just 3.5 degrees south, you wil land inWashington DC instead of NYC. ... Such a small change is barely noticeable at takeoff - the nose of the airplane moves just a few feet - but when magnified across the entire US, you end up hundreds of miles apart."
This is to give an example of how small changes that are kept to consistently have monumentally larger results over time. ... So .. with picnics and temptations abounding this is something to think about once in a while.

Niki, I read "Atomic Habits" awhile ago and loved it and learned a lot. Thanks for what you shared. The reverse is also true. Gretchen Rubin calls it "the one coin loophole"---just one bite won't hurt and before long, it's more than one bite.
Katla, How great that your children are with you to help. Best wishes for your husband for improvement so he can come home.
I've had a lovely day with dog walking, walking with my friend, walking alone, spreading bark in the yard, and riding my exercise bike while knitting and watching TV.
Allie, we've all learned the hard way that the best time go to Costco is early or late. We go on Saturday morning the moment they open the door, get in and get out quickly.
Lisa, I'm with you on the subjects of okra and hubby's family gathering. You'll make good use of your time alone.
Carol, sorry to hear about your knee.

Worked today but did get a walk around the block. After work went to Food Lion for some things on sale, then in the pool, church, watered plants, will get the salmon ready to marinate. No work tomorrow so I get to exercise <smile> Will take a shower tonight and then sleep in the other room with Shadow (Jess’ cat). I think I might spend every night this week with her only because it would be a real pain to move the CPAP back and forth. Texted Denise inviting her to the pool party, but I know that she’s not going to come. The excuse will probably be “Pete’s working”. But at least she was invited. Made another loaf of sourdough bread, still need to cut it up for the freezer
Vince worked some more on the power washing
Divine – you’re doing great!
Winner Leslie – proud of you
katla – I’m so happy your dh is doing better
Jess and Vince shaved Lexie before she left while I was at work
Heather – thanks for sharing your pictures with us. I always look forward to your adventures
Guess that’s about it for me

no, we don't read or speak Japanese. She is also having trouble with her hears so he doesn't think she would get anything out of it- I think it is worth a try but he doesn't- Yes, I am married to the ultimate Mr. Pessimist. In ALL things.'
I think she was a teen during the war so don't think she listened to much music.
She might have in her 20's, but not sure. Really don't think she would remember.
I can look up songs from around that time and see if she likes them.
day 8 of 10,000 or more steps.
Walking MIL's dog really does help get my steps in. She said I don't have to walk that far but if I am driving over there, I will make it worth my time and the dog will get a good 30-45 min walk if I have time.1 -

My husband is happy about that ride. We met while cycling long, long distances and continued to do that until 4 years ago. 4 years ago, he had a workplace accident which resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury. Certain parts of his brain survived like his procedural memory (that's the memory someone has for doing things we've done many times such as playing the piano, typing, or riding a bicycle) and the portion of his brain that does math. Other parts of his brain haven't fared so well.
But cycling was and still is an important aspect of our lives and we've been gradually building up our cycling distances.
That was our longest ride since his accident and we're kind of aiming to do a 100 km ride one day.
Yes, we were cycling for 4-ish hours. We have water bottles on the bicycle, but we did stop now and then for granola bars.
Toward the end, I was stopping at the tops of hills a lot, waiting for him.
Fatigue is a big part of his brain injury and he was pretty knackered after about 55 km.
The hills at the end of the ride didn't help.

Morning ladies
Just caught up with the June thread and already 5 pages behind on July.
Woke up with a headache this morning, thought the morning walk would get rid of it, but it seems to be taking hold so I'll grab some painkillers in a moment.
Heather your cruise looked fabulous, thank you for taking me with you on your trip Loved the photos. Think this will be the nearest to me getting away this year.
Belated Happy Birthdays to the June birthday girls. It was my son's birthday on 29th June and I must admit to eating too much of the large cookie he was given. My weight seems to have stagnated at the moment, after a few months of weight gain. I must start logging again to see where I am going wrong. Well to be honest I know where I am going wrong eating too many calories! I need to get a grip and lose weight. My knee has been painful so I've not done as much exercise as I should. But no more excuses!
I've just applied for my bus pass (in UK you can apply for a bus pass once you reach retirement age) I'm looking forward to using it. I don't often travel by bus, but I thought I could use it to visit my niece in Shipley, we'll see.
Thanks for setting us up with a new month Barbie No goals for this month, I just want to get through it a day at a time. Feeling a bit blah the last few days.
Welcome to the new people joining us.
Take care and love to all

Glad I didn’t pack up my fleece when I pulled aloha shirts and summer slacks out from off season storage bag. Junuary has morphed into Julembrr.
Heard of a yoga class on the sand at Harris Beach State Park. Strolled by to see how advanced and what gear if any. Silly me. They were all sitting cross legged on the ground. Not something I could do at this point. [sigh] Need to look for some standing, senior Yoga youtubes.
Tracey thanks for the Canada Day pics, probably the only fireworks I’ll see this year.
Machka very well done you both on that longest ride!
Leslie likewise very well done of you to decline those desserts. Sugar always makes me want to eat MORE.
Katla glad to hear your DH is improving and your son and daughter are there for you both. ((hugs))
Lisa “…eat boiled okra…” [shudder]
Margaret gorgeous peonies, cool trick!
Allie Costco at noon on Saturday? :noway:
Carol so sorry to hear your knee hurts. Any good physical therapists near you? It’s really helped my knee with no meniscus trimming. BUT If your knee really needs to be replaced, praying you can get it done soon.
Heather, thanks for explaining about the blue heads
((hugs)) to Lanette, Kylia, Rita, Debbie, Viv and all who want ‘em.
Joe came through his oral surgery ok. Had to wait hours for pharmacy to fill the pain med rX. Only used it the first night, preferring his usual liquid heal-all the next day. Frankly, if a tot of brandy can ease the pain I believe that will have fewer side effects than the hydrocodone.
