@joans1976 ugh I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's kneecap, for both of your sakes! Hope she recovers quickly.
@Breathe57103 Good job booking that trip for yourself! You deserve something major to look forward to. That sounds so fun!
@Womona yay 13 days! Congrats on the record!
Here I was AF last night even though my husband drank. Sticking with my plan of being AF for the rest of the week so that I can hit 15 days for the month. My high school reunion plans for the weekend are up the air due to Ian soaking things. I anticipate they'll move it inside, but it's an "all class" reunion so I'm not sure there is a space big enough for the expected attendance. If it got canceled or postponed I wouldn't be mad. I enjoy canceled plans so much!5 -
Still going on my streak. 37 days now.
My original plan was to go until 1st October which would also give me 40 days.
However, I'm now starting to fidget over October. On the 9th I head to Malta for a week long sales conference, I'm home for the weekend, then off to Frankfurt bookfair for a week. Both of those are very boozy events LOL. I've had several work dinners this month on the fizzy water but these may be harder.
Then on the 27th we head to Cyprus for a vacation. Not many days left for AF!
I really appreciate this is a "first world problem"
BTW last evening I heard my wife referring to me as "dear husband" on a call with a colleague. I suddenly realised this is what you guys mean when you post DH

We don't get it here but isn't Coors edge a alcohol free beer @Forestdweller?

@Alatariel75
You make your own salami??!!
@Breathe57103
Amalfi Coast sounds wonderful! When do you go?
@MissMay
I hope that you thoroughly enjoy your roadtrip to your next chapter. Beautiful time of year for long drives.
Huge change! Brave and wonderful
@Lilylady3k
Thanks for listing the ingredients of those cocktails, they sound yummy with or without booze : - )
@forestdweller1
As usual, I very much enjoy reading your posts and they always bring a smile to my face and a giggle.
@globalhiker
Some times just envisioning that we want to change up some stuff leads to it. Really glad that you had a good weekend in nature and some actual down time.4 -
I am Dawn. I live in Cranbrook BC.
I joined this thread in November of 2018 as a daily drinker.
I have found a sweet spot for myself, 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 18 for August.
I will be in Mexico for a good chunk of September and will definitely be having some Margaritas and possibly Cervezas.
I post in the mornings to MFP, so the next day for this thread.
Diary style.
Sunday Sept 11 - AF - Planned AF for Monday and Tuesday. I arrive in LA at 3pm on Tuesday and staying there until Wednesday morning, where I depart for Zhihuatanejo. I may have a Margarita at a beach bar on Wednesday, we'll see. Packing up my laptop after this post, I will check back in on Thursday.
Monday Sept 12 - AF - I have to get up at 2:30am to be at the airport for 4:30
Tuesday Sept 13 - AF - Arrived in LA for the day and night. Met a very nice young man in the pool and had a good conversation
Wednesday Sept 14 - 1 Margarita. Flight delay and forever getting through customs so I was late to the property. Turns out the beautiful cobblestone street that I thought that I would be living on was torn up and muddy with construction. Pretty much impossible for the cabby. Somehow got into my "bungalow" and back down the hill in the mud to a little place where I had a drink and took two containers to my room, one of rice, one of beans. (I see that the rest that I typed didn't go through because of wifi)
Thursday Sept 15 - Cocktails on the beach
Friday Sept 16 - Takeout cocktails - very very busy at all of the places because of the holiday, no seats
Saturday Sept 17 - 2 Margaritas at a not busy little spot that I found on day 1 here, just a muddy hill to get to it. Brought some more containers of rice and beans back to my place from there.
Sunday September 18 - Homemade Margaritas with my lime/orange thing. Pretty good. Planned AF for Monday so that when I wake up Tuesday for my birthday I will be raring to go and my belly will be flatter for spending the entire day in my bathing suit.
Monday September 19 - AF - Not looking good for hitting my 16 this month. Planning drinks and dinner on the beach for my birthday if it isn't raining too much. Oh, no earthquake here btw, and I am up on a hill and in a cove if a tsunami does form. The quake was north of here. Once I got wifi lots of people messaged me to see if I was okay, I hadn't known that there had been a quake and didn't feel anything. Sunny and blue all day today, walked very far and also visited another beach, but took a micro (van sort of bus) back at 1pm too hot for such a long walk (only a few miles, but up and down very big hills in the sun), stopped in town for cash on hand for my bday, walked back from there, grabbed an awesome iced espresso then went to the pool until 4:30. The big rain started just after I got back to my room. Love it from my covered terrace.
Tuesday September 20 - My bday. Drinks late afternoon, then Montezuma's revenge an hour later. Ice cubes? All good though, had a great day wandering, and then just the one bout that was over very quickly.
Wednesday September 21 - Drinks (Margaritas), made by me with ice cubes that I made from bottled water.
Thursday September 22 - AF - For no particular reason. - 6 more AF days in 8 days is doubtful, but I am actually okay with that. I hardly ever drink Margaritas, but they are so good with Mexican food that I don't feel like resisting at this point.
Friday September 23 - Margaritas
Saturday September 24 - Margaritas and a Cerveza
Sunday September 25 - Margaritas and a Cerveza
Monday September 26 - AF - Travel day on Tuesday to LA, flight doesn't leave until after 6pm, so it will be a long day. Planned AF for Tuesday, as Wednesday is also a travel day with an early start and layover. I won't be at my hometown airport until late and then I will pick up my car and drive, so no drinkies on the planes. I may have drinks Wednesday night when I get back, we'll see. I have enjoyed catching up on all of your posts. Laptop will be getting packed up, so I will check back in on Thursday or Friday. I am kind of okay if I don't make my goal for the first time in years. Margaritas aren't my norm, but I have thoroughly enjoyed them here in Mexico where the limes are so fresh.

Seems I only check-in when I have a had an AF day or 2...
I am planning to stay AF for the next 3 days... Sep 30th is our wedding anniversary, and quick trip to Vegas. So looking like only 8 AF for Sep. As bad as that sounds to me right now, I am reminding myself that this is much better than I did in August... didn't do a count in August, but don't think it was more than 3-4 days AF.
After this weekend, I will be ready to get back to squeezing in more AF days in October!2 -
@Stockholm_Andy ...Yes, Coors Edge is AF, as is @MissMay 's Heineken00.
I've never been a big beer drinker, except with a table full of Blue Crabs, so I don't notice a difference in taste. Chianti or Malbec is my poison of choice. Truly a poison for my weight and the next day's ambition.
This knowledge still does not keep me from looking at the bottle with longing...🤗🍷
3 more days til a brand new month !! A "Less Alcohol" month.

I do! I got into it a few years ago, and what was a small time hobby has become a bit of my *thing*. I now have a curing chamber, which at the moment holds about 12lbs of Hungarian Salami, 8lbs of Spanish Chorizo, and a half leg prosciutto that's been curing for about 8 months. Before Christmas I'm also going to make a few lbs of 'Nduja (a spicy, spreadable salami) and some traditional Italian, and a couple of whole meat cures (a coppa (cured pork neck) and a bresola (much like a prosciutto, but with beef instead of ham).
I also smoke my own smallgoods and shall be making some kabanosi and pastrami in the coming weeks!

Plan to be AF last 4 days of the month.
Back in 2017, when I was 52, I lost about 20 lbs and lifted weights several times a week. I found the progress pictures today and it was the best shape I have ever been in. I got down as low as 124 lbs at 5' 7" and was completely toned.
I have put 15 lbs back on, but probably actually more fat than that offset by muscle loss. I went into surgical menopause at 45 so clearly I can't blame menopause for any weight I've gained since 2017. My new goal is to work on getting back into shape by the time I go to Amalfi next summer. It was a pretty major body recomposition and it only took from April to August. I think I will print the pictures and post them every where i store food!6 -

That is so cool! Do you need a curing chamber to get started? Or is their a way in before you commit to all the kit?3 -

I've had a few AF beers over this current streak of 38 days AF but not many. One has been enough to scratch the itch each time.
I tried an AF "spirit" at the weekend called Gnista Barrelled Oak....it was awful! tasted like very sweet cough syrup.
I also bought a bottle of AF red wine last night as my wife asked me to get her a bottle of Red. I didn't bother opening it in the end as I had no craving for wine as it happened.

I only got one after I got serious about it! If you live somewhere that gets cold in winter, or is you have a basement that stays nice and cool, you can make it there - the traditional way never used a curing chamber!4 -

I love this group ❤️
I have greatly reduced my drinking since June and had a great month in August with 26 out of 31 AF days. This month I am trying to be mindful and make self care a priority.
9/1-9/7: 7 out of 7 AF
9/8-9/14: 6 AF out 7

Well I didn’t end up taking a mental health day but I did end up seeing my therapist who forced me to set up some hard boundaries with work notifications (on my computer and phone) and I also punched out an hour early. Obviously, a different job needs to be found. This makes my stomach hurt to think about. But the job I have now makes my stomach hurt too.
Away from work today, helping my parents unpack. They are out of the hotel and in to the condo, all limbs intact thank god. This should be the downswing of the stress of the move
Thanks for listening ❤️

Yesterday I got some self care in, a nap and some yoga, a walk. Organized my linen closet. Lots of TV. Turned off the phone completely. My anxiety about working today started to creep in at about 6 pm. Just another sign it’s time to go.

Unfortunately my mom fell and broke her kneecap last night. She’s in a lot of pain. I will be her primary caregiver. She has fallen and broken many things in her life and I’m thankful it wasn’t worse.

I’m not sure what to say….when it rains it pours I guess!5 -
Proud of myself for last night. I made chili and cornbread and wanted a porter so badly but I resisted, even though DH was drinking. Whew. Now he said he'll take the rest of the week off so hopefully it's easier from here to finish out the month!5

Nice work dodging the Porter (I love a nice Porter) and good luck to your DH taking a swerve for the rest of the week too.
My wife was said on Sunday she was having a "white" week this week but changed her mind. Not that she drinks anywhere near the level I do when I'm drinking. Besides I know enough not to make comment on her choices4 -

Checking in.
Driving to Florida since last Friday. Yes we know, and are cautious of the category 4 hurricane.
Staying put up here in Alabama until hurricane Ian passes and we can drive safely into Pensacola.
Spent yesterday and Monday in Knoxville Tennessee and had a blast.
Got taxi into town and let my hair down because I did not need to drive the next day.
FUN FUN FUN. Art galleries, museums, walking over the Tennessee river (TWICE) hee hee got lost on foot. Lots of great roof top lounges. With great food and nice drinks.
Nothing crazy.....being good with drinking choices.
Today in Alabama, already ate my first shrimp and grits.
@lmlmrn check out this art in our hotel. Look familiar???? Acrylic paint pour with a balloon kiss technique.5 -
So far this week I am Sun 25/9 to Wed 28/9 AF, as planned. Hubster has been having a few of an evening but aside from Wed, not anywhere near the usual level. Tonight is a challenge - it's my birthday and while I haven't planned any drinks, if I go home and he's magicked up a bottle of something nice and bubbly, I probably won't say no. BUT that's ok - occasions are part of my plan! And if he doesn't, then I won't!2
-
@Alatariel75 Happy Birthday! No one would begrudge you some champagne! Oh, and your cured meats sound delicious! You are much more ambitious than I will ever be when it comes to that stuff!
@Stockholm_Andy If you are asked why you’re not drinking, you can always say you’re doing a cleanse. Best of luck to you avoiding most if not all of the alcohol. Let me know how the non-alcoholic wine is. A good AF wine is the Holy Grail for us wine drinkers!
@MissMay I love shrimp and grits! Yum! Safe travels, and may there be no flood damage.
@tmbg1 great to see you checking in!
@globalhiker safe travels home, your vacation sounded so wonderful.

I was a “lady who lunches” yesterday. Had one glass of wine with friends, and the did some shopping in an outdoor area on a beautiful autumn day. I found a cute pair of boots too! Nothing alcoholic last night or today.4

Thank you everyone for your well wishes about my mom. She is in quite a bit of pain but she’s on some narcotic pain killers so there’s a few silly moments here and there! It is hard balancing work with taking care of her but she’s my mom and that’s what daughters do.
@Stockholm_Andy Cyprus! How exciting! Please post pictures when you get back! Way to keep up your streak, I know it’s not easy and a decision you face everyday!
@pezhed Youre doing great things!
