Checking in
Took a quick (3 hour ride) on Amtrak train yesterday to use up a gift certificate that would not be of use down in Florida. Trip to Boston, walking around the town for hours, visting gardens and parks, admiring the old building architecture......and searching for......(wait for it) ........the buisness front that was the filming for the TV series "CHEERS".
Never did find it because I am clueless how to use my phone and map on my phone and the next thing I knew my phone power was at zero. And I still had to get us back to the train station.
Good thing was I only had one light blueberry mojito Monday night. But too much carrot cake Tuusday which I should have switched out for something healthier. Nice to be headed back to the house this morning to continue packing up to move.
September accountability:
6A(7 drinks)
7 AF
Not the numbers I wanted for this early in the month.
Yeesh. Good thing is I know for a fact I will not be doing any drinking while making my way to FL.

@MissMay - Who says carrot cake isn't healthy????? LOL I love a good carrot cake that is not too dense and full of veggies & nuts. Personally when making it I now use applesauce instead of oil. It has been wonderful that you've been able to take advantage of local trips, friends and events before the big move.
When are you moving and have you found a new place to land yet?

You didn't miss much @MissMay with the Cheers bar. It's right there on the edge of the Public Gardens in central Boston but while it looks vaguely the same from the outside inside it was just a fast food place and shop!
I was really looking forwards to having a beer with Norm and Cliff

Had a half a glass of wine as I cooked dinner, which turned into a full glass, which I did not need. And that 2nd half glass wasn’t as enjoyable as the first half glass. Oh well, plan to be AF today. Hey at least it wasn’t 1.5 glasses. Progress.
Hang in there everyone. This forum does help me to be accountable.

Ugh, I blew my planned AF day yesterday. I was so tired and thought a couple beers would perk me up to get through the evening. I guess it might have helped but I wish I'd used those calories on food instead. I've been so hungry. Maybe if I used all my calories on solids I'd be more content!
Running September total: 5/13 AF days6 -
@Lilylady3k Awesome self care! Nice thought processes.
ETA: I’ve been drinking alone since 2021, I guess I kinda thought “no one would know” if I got sloppy drunk or had one too many.8 -
I love this group ❤️
I have greatly reduced my drinking since June and had a great month in August with 26 out of 31 AF days. This month I am trying to be mindful and make self care a priority.
9/1-9/7: 7 out of 7 AF
9/8: AF
Moving my parents. Stress. No self care done since August. Hoping for yoga tomorrow.
9/9: AF Yesterday was tough. Not only moving my parents but also at the end there were tears from leaving the house they had called home for 32 years. And of course I had to say goodbye to my oasis, the pool. They need to downsize and they know it it’s just bittersweet.
9/10: AF I actually struggled a bit to not drink last night. But I didn’t want to break my streak, which seems silly to me. I also didn’t want the hangover as I have work to do today. I never came here with the intentions of never drinking again but I’m starting to wonder…? The thought of never drinking again kind of makes me feel pressure. I’m not sure why I feel like I need to put a label on all of this.
9/11- A 1/2 drink
Well, I broke my 20 day streak. Silly because it did not taste good and gave me heartburn. I poured it down the sink. Weird.
9/12: AF
9/13: AF nothing to report here but stress. I got my boss mad at me so she is giving me the silent treatment and it is GLORIOUS.6 -
9/1-9/4 - A
9/5-9/6- 9/7 - AF
9/8-9/9-9/10 - A
9/11- 9/12-9/13 - 9/14- AF
So far 7 A and 7 AF this month- pretty good6 -
@joans1976 you clearly need to anger your boss more! Haha!
I missed my workout this morning- not one but two road closures, plus I was already running late. Sign from God that it was ok to skip my workout! Good thing I bagged it, that one glass of wine last night did not help. That, and binging on season 5 of Cobra Kai last night! I was just dragging all day.
AF tonight, and wine night is cancelled tomorrow, so if I stay strong I can do another AF night.7 -
I did not stay AF today. A friend who's husband diet from cancer a few weeks before my husband died texted mid afternoon to see if I wanted to meet for dinner. My intention was to stay AF but I knew she would be drinking. I’m very disappointed in not keeping the commitment to myself.
I was Diet Coke free for the 2nd day in a row. So that's a victory.
9/1-9/13 AF
9/14 A
Onward to tomorrow.10 -

If I had a nickel for every time I had a drink solely to kill off the bottle….

Don’t beat yourself up over one day. You’ve done so well over the course of this month. We’ve all been there with having the best of intentions, and just caving.
I guess the best you can do is determine with why you made that choice (was the dinner bringing up uncomfortable feelings of loss, did you want to feel supportive of your friend, did you want to celebrate being out
with her, etc.).
Hang in there and give yourself some grace!7 -
AF tonight! I am drinking club soda with a splash of cranberry in a wine glass. Looks like a sparkling rosé.
I kind of hate to admit it, but I feel better the next day when I don’t drink.7 -
Me too, @Womona, except I love to admit it that I feel really great the day after not drinking. And energy.
Sleep is another story - thanks to stupid menopause I have insomnia to go with my "menopot" (somebody tell me this will go away soon please).
Dawn, please send us vacation pictures of your island paradise. I, and maybe others could use some cheer . Hope you have great weather.

I took a Sudafed before going to bed last night and I think it disrupted my sleep. Felt like I was half awake most of the night. NOTE to self: Downside to decongestants is that they can cause insomnia. It acts as a stimulant. GOOGLED at 5am this morning.

Sleep has been no good for me the past few nights either but I know the culprit.
Yes Dawn I await your beach pictures also!6 -
Hello all!
I spend some time catching up on my reading pleasure here! The fair is not as brutal to me this year as last....I think because I am not the 'closer' and when it slows in the evening we volunteer to leave LOL
So far this month 5A days and 10 AF days.
Me on a break from selling tickets in my little 10x10 booth. I think he is suppose to be a sasquatch, but either way it is fun so far.

@lmlmrn haha that looks so fun!! Nice A to AF ratio for you for the month!
I caved on my planned AF day on Tuesday this week. My husband's beer at dinner just looked so good. I had a planned A day on Wednesday, and had an AF day yesterday, leaving me at...6 out of 15 days AF ugh. Have some major catching up to do the rest of the month if I'm going to hit 15 days!5 -
I'm feeling extremely depressed tonight. Three weeks ago I would have had a couple of cocktails when I felt like this. Tonight I am just sitting in it letting myself experience the heartache and pain. Tomorrow will be a better day.

My car has died. I was trying to make it through September with it since so much is going on but it just couldn’t hold on. Car shopping today. The fun never stops!6 -
Sept: 9 AF days. Overwork is draining me. The "I want to quit" and "Should I retire" voices are acting up again in my head, louder and louder.
@joans1976, sorry to hear this. Hope you find a car you like. I'm trying to hang onto mine for a year or two until there are better electric car options.
@lmlmrn, great picture. You have such a fun job!
@Breathe57103 today is going to be a better day. You didn't drink yesterday and that was good also. I remember when my first husband left, the worst part was being home alone. I actually moved out of my bedroom into a spare bedroom and that helped. I hope you plan to fill your weekend with activities that will let you exhale and breathe in new energy.
I could use new energy myself. Working on it.....

Day Seventeen of Wine vs Water [bloop bloop] 🐠🐟🦀🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🍷🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🍷🐟
My only nephew died a year ago this week. He had been a bit of a mess in his teens [ ain't they all ??] but in his mid 20's he had a house, a job he loved and a great relationship with the extended family.
According to the Mississippi police it was an auto accident, with gunshot involved. We never got ANY further clear explanation, and probably never will. He was just driving up North for scheduled work.
We cope by doing random acts of kindness in his name...$5 in the bucket of a street musician...buying a backpack full of school supplies for a kid whose parents can't afford it [ anonymously ]...paying off someone else's Christmas toy layaway...carrying an elderly neighbor's trashcans back into her yard on garbage day. "For Christopher".
It helps. A little.
