@dawnbgethealthy. Thanks, I feel much more energetic today.
By the way, I think DOMS stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. It usually happens after a workout if you haven't worked out in a while.6 -
Time to start counting, before I forget...
Sep 1-4: A
Sep 5: AF
1 AF/ 5 days6 -
@dawnbgethealthy @leos_daddy Yes, DOMS is delayed onset muscle soreness. A bodybuilder term from someone who could not be farther from a bodybuilder!
Dawn-The sunflower is from seed paper planted in a pot on my balcony at my apartment. It meant a lot to me when they came up because they are from my best friends memorial service. She passed away unexpectedly from cancer at age 46 in March. Im saving the seeds to plant next year. Thank you for noticing!7 -

I had my weekly ladies golf league today. It was the 2nd weekly ladies golf day in a row that i didn't have any alcohol. It is interesting that one of the ladies that always has alcohol also didn't order any either week (she ordered after i ordered both weeks.) A second lady normally has 2 glasses of wine and only had 1 glass each week.
I did explain to them that i am just trying to cut back since i had started drinking daily (often alone) and it certainly was not helping my depression or sleep issues. I wanted them to know that I told them i have no issue with them drinking in front of me and that I was not necessarily never going to drink alcohol with them again, but feel that I need to build up a long string of AF days to establish the new normal.

Onward...One day at a time.
Have a great Wednesday everyone!9 -
@Stockholm_Andy honestly, if you can master the airport and the London pub scene, that will be cool. Do it!! Plus, I hear AF is a new trend in the U.K. so do let us know if you are seeing that change. I hope you will run into other colleagues and clients who don't drink and the whole outcome will be easier than expected. My last London work trip was very weird, about half the people drank super-excessively into the wee hours and the other half didn't drink at all.
Welcome Jason, you'll find most of us are Scorpios, middle-aged, definitely vacation-obsessed, and all trying to realize better, healthier selves.
@MissMay, the zoo? Oh super hell no, not me. I imagined you working in an art gallery that you own, over there in Pensacola. The glamorous life awaits you.
AF tonight and as usual...I have insomnia but dealing with it.

I love this group ❤️
I have greatly reduced my drinking since June and had a great month in August with 26 out of 31 AF days. This month I am trying to be mindful and make self care a priority.

The moving saga continues, except now it’s while I’m at work. I’m watching my parents 11 year old land shark of a dog for the next two days. It will be fine, it will just upset my cats world.
Have a great Wednesday everyone!5 -
@globalhiker all of the people I work with are definitely in the drinking until the early hours group 🤣
We did a few pubs and a very nice high end fish restaurant. I bought everyone (well my expense account did) lots of nice wine, cocktails and beers but stuck to 2 AF beers and sparkling water myself. I got a few "are you sure your not having one" and "oh go on you know you want to" etc but it actually just helped me skip it.
Out again tonight but I'm sure I'll stay the course for this week.
I have a wonderful view from my hotel window of the South Coast!
[Edit: there was supposed to be a picture here but it didn't add 😆]9 -
@Stockholm_Andy I'm impressed with your willpower! Whenever I dine on the company dime I find myself drinking just for the hell of it.
Had my second AF day for the month yesterday even though I really wanted to reach for a beer after trying to balance work and childcare all day. The kids are out of daycare through the rest of this week since we parents still have covid. Today is Day 10 since our first positive tests/symptom onset. I agree that the CDC guidelines aren't strict enough but it sure puts parents in a bind when employers' policies reflect the CDC guidelines but daycares' policies do not. Anyway, 3 more days of this. We can make it through.8 -
Joining this group! Did not start off September to well but hopefully I will improve. My goal is to drink a little less each month. At least one day. So here goes:
9/1 AF
9/2 A

9/4 AF
9/5 AF
9/6 AF
Good luck everyone!! I really think alcohol is bad for me because even with 2 or 3 glasses of wine I always feel terrible the next day.! Hoping this thread and your support will keep me on track!10 -
I am Dawn. I live in Cranbrook BC.
I joined this thread in November of 2018 as a daily drinker.
I have found a sweet spot for myself, 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 18 for August.
I will be in Mexico for a good chunk of September and will definitely be having some Margaritas and possibly Cervezas.
I post in the mornings to MFP, so the next day for this thread.
Diary style.
Sunday Sept 04 - AF - Back on to the Ice zero calorie drinks in frosted champagne flutes.
Monday Sept 05 - AF - I may have drinks after my pedi Tuesday night.
Tuesday Sept 06 - Drinks. The last time I had a pedi I wrecked it by going straight into my garden to get some stuff done. I resisted this time because this pedi needs to be for the duration of my upcoming trip. Polish intact, even though I had sooo much to do, I stayed still. I will get some more AF days in before I fly off for sure.
Rolling total: 3AF day out of 6 days.5 -

That's exactly how I am normally Pez Which is why I'm trying to steer clear for a while. I've said it before but I'm a Pringle drinker. Once I pop I can't stop!
This is the picture I tried to post from my phone earlier. The view from todays hotel.
Mind you it doesn't look so nice just now as we had a thunder storm roll in!

Day Seven of Wine vs Water [bloop bloop] 🐠🐟🦀🐟🐟🐟🐟
HA!! Betcha thought since I didn't post, that I'd caved. @MissMay SIL used to watch "Man vs Food" while I read a book, but, yeh, kinda like that. Not all of us are Scorpios and middle-aged...I'm a Libra and ancient [76 coming up soon]...but vacation obsessed is SO true. My 3 daughters got annoyed with not being able to find me, and bought me my first "flip phone". It never worked in NC mountains, or the wilds of West Virginia...still got the "Mama where WERE YOU??" Me ?? , rough camping or listening to Bluegrass. P.S. Covid has sucked the life out of my good times.
Just finished cooking a chicken in my wedding gift 1965 Sunbeam upright rotisserie. Not the oldest working one, since Baby Sister has our Daddy's which is two years older.
Lemon-Lime Sparkling Ice and chicken are calling me...Ciao.9 -
One week of September down and still alcohol free. I worked all day and then went and had a facial this evening. The house is pretty quiet with my grandbabies gone.
Now that I am starting to settle into the less alcohol I really need to conquer the 3-4 cans per day of Diet Coke. I think I need to go cold turkey! I will start tracking it along with my daily alcohol and see if the accountability helps.
9/1 thru 9/7 AF

@forestdweller1 I am also a Libra, but 19 years behind you. I am impressed with your adventurous spirit. Now that the rest of my life is no longer what I thought it would be I need to start doing a little more wandering myself. I do think I will skip the rough camping part though!7
-
LOL I love the age/zodiac sign references.....put me in the ring with...cancer and 64ish, and will take off at the mere suggestion of an adventure
Well September is starting out well. 6AF and 1A . I go back to the fair tomorrow and work through next Monday. Off 1 day then work 6 on 1 off until the fair is done on the 25th. 12 hour shifts. Won't be much of an opportunity to have a drink so this is good for me!
Enjoy your week & weekend if I don't make it back on here daily5 -
@lmlmrn I totally hear you about how tiring it is to be “on” all day. I do that at my job, but my longest shift was 9 hours! 12 hours, wow. I fall into bed at night!
Well, you all inspired me last night. Every one of you who said “my goal is to have X number of AF days this month” helped me to not have a glass of wine with dinner last night. I had two the night before, and I really wanted a glass of wine, but I was able to resist. So, thanks!7 -
Having these kids home for the past two weeks is really making beer tempting. I had one beer last night, which made me feel a slight buzz for about 3 minutes before it just made me sleepy, which really doesn't help get me through the night of trying to take care of things around the house and get the kids to bed. I don't even know why I had that beer. Planning an AF night tonight, which will only be 3 for the month but I have plenty of time to meet my 15-day goal. DH is back to having some covid symptoms which is very frustrating for us both. We think maybe it has turned into a sinus infection.6

2 glasses of wine last night as DH bought 12 nice bottles of Joseph Drouhin Rully blanc wine yesterday. Really like this wine and think it might be a new fav but we bought all they had at the store. My plan is to skip tonight so that I can enjoy another glass Fri & Sat. Trying for 3 AF days at least per week to get to my 12-16 AF days for the month.
Donating one of these bottles to a Wine Pull for a Think Pink Breast Cancer Luncheon fundraiser. DH told me to put it aside and agreed.3 -
Enjoy reading all your posts. It helps to keep me accountable. Last night DH had wine and I really wanted a glass. But you know how that one glass always leads to another ....then another.....how does that happen ??? When I woke up this morning I was so glad I did not have any last night!

Wednesday Sept 07 - AF - Planned AF for Thursday, and planned drinks for Friday and or Saturday. I will be working a very long day on Friday, but after that I am officially on holiday and will get my garden covered so frost won't hit it while I am away, plus 100 other things that I need to do before flying off. Virgo, almost 62
Rolling total: 4AF day out of 7 days.3 -
Well still on it Or maybe that should be off it? Anyway 16 days consecutively AF.
I'm at the airport waiting to fly home. My wife flies out to the US on Saturday on business for a week but at least we'll see each other Friday!
Have amazing Thursdays people and smash those goals!!!

Tonight it was tough to stay AF but I fought through it. It is the 6 month anniversary of my husband's suicide. I spent the day working and then worked on a jigsaw puzzle this evening. I turned on the NFL game but it just isn't the same watching alone.
Tomorrow night I am getting a massage and my son and his family will come over for the Packer-Viking game on Sunday. So I have a few things to look forward to. I am really anxious to get back to AZ on 10/1 and away from all the reminders here of what once was. I know it will be lonely there, but I feel like maybe I can create a new life with people that didn't know me "before".
September
9/1 - 9/7 AF
9/8 AF and 2 Diet Cokes (that is half my normal intake)
Have a great weekend.8 -
@Breathe57103 - You are doing really well on the AF front. ((HUGS)) for the memories. Curious, is your plan to winter in AZ (6 months there and 6 months back home)? Or do you have plans to move their permanently?4
