I love seeing all the exchanges and support in this group. Hopefully I can engage more deeply when I have a normal “work” day, haha. I’ll be honest, that’s when I do my best Internetting. I’ve only ended up having one AF day out of five, so I’ll need to improve that rate to make it to 15 for the month!6

AF tonight, I didn’t even want it. I was probably hung over from my three drinks yesterday- 2 on the boat, and 1 glass of wine at dinner. I wanted to pour that extra half glass but I refrained. Glad I did.
Today I ran a few errands and took an enormous nap. It was lovely! I normally work Mondays so this was a treat to have the day off.5 -
AF again today.
Last day of my out of state grandbabies visit. I will be going to New Mexico to see them the 1st week of October so not too long of a wait.
I am really happy that alcohol has not been in my conscious thoughts this week. I do need to get back to my morning 3+miles walks and healthy eating though. The family visits seem to interfere with my routines but it is worth it.

Back to the grind tomorrow, but it is golf day so that is something to look forward to.
Have a great week everyone.

Love all the photo's we are seeing so far this month!
As I expected the fair is grueling, not so much in physical labor as a ticket seller, it is the oh so friendly customer service/banter/humor etc. that I give each person at my window. After hour 8 it is hard to maintain but I do all they way up to hour 12ish give or take.
AF still this month and a few days at the end of Aug...think I am at day 8 of consecutive AF. Not a record but it works for me.
@MissMay guess who liked my stick that they used it after I went home??? now if that does not make ya laugh7 -

I have greatly reduced my drinking since June and had a great month in August with 26 out of 31 AF days. This month I am trying to be mindful and make self care a priority.

Well, I swam in my sweet oasis for the last time yesterday. It’s very strange to cry and swim at the same time. I’m already thinking of ways to replace it. My next step is to go check out the local rec centers pool and see how high my “germ radar” gets and if I can imagine getting in a public pool.
It is also hard seeing the emotions my parents are going through with moving. My mom clutches her chest a lot and says she can’t breathe. My dad is a hoarder and there’s stuff from the previous house he never unpacked, so 42 years of “stuff” he’s trying to pack/organize/donate/sell three days before the movers come. He throws nothing away. They are both very tired and emotional. I helped as much as I could the past 4 days but I have to go back to work today.
Also, serious DOMS. I am definitely not 25 anymore!
Sorry for long post!
I hope you all are well and happy!10 -
Hi Everyone.
My name is Jason. Please count me in. My 56th birthday is on November 9th and I want to have no alcoholic beverages until then. Yesterday was Labor Day which usually consists of lots of beer and barbeque and for the first time in along time, I had nothing to drink on Labor Day. I had quite a bit of rum on Sunday night and felt horrible the next morning; it wasn't a hangover but was feeling lethargic, had no motivation to do much of anything (though I had lots to do that day) and because of alcohol, my day was wasted.
Last night, instead of a night cap, I drank zero caffeine tea with lemon and slept like a baby last night. However, I do realize that it's only one night but every streak must begin somewhere. I hope many of you who are reading this are conquering your sobriety goals.

I love that you have a sunflower as your profile pic. Such a joyful flower : - )

am Dawn. I live in Cranbrook BC.
I joined this thread in November of 2018 as a daily drinker.
I have found a sweet spot for myself, 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 18 for August.
I will be in Mexico for a good chunk of September and will definitely be having some Margaritas and possibly Cervezas.
I post in the mornings to MFP, so the next day for this thread.
Diary style.
Sunday Sept 04 - AF - Back on to the Ice zero calorie drinks in frosted champagne flutes.
Monday Sept 05 - AF - I may have drinks after my pedi Tuesday night.
Rolling total: 3AF day out of 5 days.5 -
@dawnbgethealthy. Thanks, I feel much more energetic today.
By the way, I think DOMS stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. It usually happens after a workout if you haven't worked out in a while.6 -
Time to start counting, before I forget...

@dawnbgethealthy @leos_daddy Yes, DOMS is delayed onset muscle soreness. A bodybuilder term from someone who could not be farther from a bodybuilder!
Dawn-The sunflower is from seed paper planted in a pot on my balcony at my apartment. It meant a lot to me when they came up because they are from my best friends memorial service. She passed away unexpectedly from cancer at age 46 in March. Im saving the seeds to plant next year. Thank you for noticing!7 -

I had my weekly ladies golf league today. It was the 2nd weekly ladies golf day in a row that i didn't have any alcohol. It is interesting that one of the ladies that always has alcohol also didn't order any either week (she ordered after i ordered both weeks.) A second lady normally has 2 glasses of wine and only had 1 glass each week.
I did explain to them that i am just trying to cut back since i had started drinking daily (often alone) and it certainly was not helping my depression or sleep issues. I wanted them to know that I told them i have no issue with them drinking in front of me and that I was not necessarily never going to drink alcohol with them again, but feel that I need to build up a long string of AF days to establish the new normal.

@Stockholm_Andy honestly, if you can master the airport and the London pub scene, that will be cool. Do it!! Plus, I hear AF is a new trend in the U.K. so do let us know if you are seeing that change. I hope you will run into other colleagues and clients who don't drink and the whole outcome will be easier than expected. My last London work trip was very weird, about half the people drank super-excessively into the wee hours and the other half didn't drink at all.
Welcome Jason, you'll find most of us are Scorpios, middle-aged, definitely vacation-obsessed, and all trying to realize better, healthier selves.
@MissMay, the zoo? Oh super hell no, not me. I imagined you working in an art gallery that you own, over there in Pensacola. The glamorous life awaits you.
AF tonight and as usual...I have insomnia but dealing with it.

The moving saga continues, except now it’s while I’m at work. I’m watching my parents 11 year old land shark of a dog for the next two days. It will be fine, it will just upset my cats world.
Have a great Wednesday everyone!5 -
@globalhiker all of the people I work with are definitely in the drinking until the early hours group 🤣
We did a few pubs and a very nice high end fish restaurant. I bought everyone (well my expense account did) lots of nice wine, cocktails and beers but stuck to 2 AF beers and sparkling water myself. I got a few "are you sure your not having one" and "oh go on you know you want to" etc but it actually just helped me skip it.
Out again tonight but I'm sure I'll stay the course for this week.
I have a wonderful view from my hotel window of the South Coast!
[Edit: there was supposed to be a picture here but it didn't add 😆]9 -
@Stockholm_Andy I'm impressed with your willpower! Whenever I dine on the company dime I find myself drinking just for the hell of it.
Had my second AF day for the month yesterday even though I really wanted to reach for a beer after trying to balance work and childcare all day. The kids are out of daycare through the rest of this week since we parents still have covid. Today is Day 10 since our first positive tests/symptom onset. I agree that the CDC guidelines aren't strict enough but it sure puts parents in a bind when employers' policies reflect the CDC guidelines but daycares' policies do not. Anyway, 3 more days of this. We can make it through.8
