My granddaughters are growing up quickly! (8 months & 2 months) Both live in Houston but as anyone that has been here can agree ... that doesn't mean they live close! I'm about 25 miles from one and 50 from the other. Love seeing them though and glad that we didn't move away for retirement ... though that is still a possibility.

Awwww.....adorable granddaughters! Isn't being a grandma just the best.
Hoping for another AF night for me.
Best to you all!5 -

I plan to spent 6-8 months in AZ and the rest in SD. I have a son and his family, my mom, and my husband's family in SD so I don't want to make a permanent move yet. I likely will move permanently some day.5 -
@Breathe57103 I am so so sorry for what you're going through and have gone through. I can't say I blame you for wanting to get away from the reminders. It would be very tempting to drink through the feelings. I'm really inspired by your resolve.5

@Lilylady3k you and your granddaughters are gorgeous! Fun to have them so close in age isn't it? My mom informs me that being a grandmother is truly the best!5

I followed through with my planned AF day yesterday. I think I'll be able to manage more weekdays off when the kids are back in daycare. Last night was actually no problem since I made an elaborate dinner that wasn't even ready until my youngest's bath time. We are going to a brewery tonight. I am still testing positive for covid on Day 12 but we'll spend our time outside and wear a mask when we order. I think that's reasonable. Not going to eat or drink inside anywhere until I test negative. I'm pretty surprised I'm still positive since my very mild symptoms resolved about a week ago.
Running total of AF days (goal 15/30): 3/84 -
I am Dawn. I live in Cranbrook BC.
I joined this thread in November of 2018 as a daily drinker.
I have found a sweet spot for myself, 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 18 for August.
I will be in Mexico for a good chunk of September and will definitely be having some Margaritas and possibly Cervezas.
I post in the mornings to MFP, so the next day for this thread.
Diary style.
Sunday Sept 04 - AF - Back on to the Ice zero calorie drinks in frosted champagne flutes.
Monday Sept 05 - AF - I may have drinks after my pedi Tuesday night.
Tuesday Sept 06 - Drinks. The last time I had a pedi I wrecked it by going straight into my garden to get some stuff done. I resisted this time because this pedi needs to be for the duration of my upcoming trip. Polish intact, even though I had sooo much to do, I stayed still. I will get some more AF days in before I fly off for sure.
Wednesday Sept 07 - AF - Planned AF for Thursday, and planned drinks for Friday and or Saturday. I will be working a very long day on Friday, but after that I am officially on holiday and will get my garden covered so frost won't hit it while I am away, plus 100 other things that I need to do before flying off. Virgo, almost 62
Thursday Sept 08 - AF - Friday is going to be a very long workday, so I just couldn't have drinks Thursday night.
Rolling total: 5AF day out of 8 days.5 -
19 Days AF much to my own surprise!
A bit of an odd day for me as a Brit yesterday to land in Sweden and find Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had passed away.
She has been our Queen not only for my whole life but she ascended to the thrown in 1952 the year my Mother was born!
Anyway enough self indulgence. Enjoy your weekends guys!!!

Hello everyone, just a quick fly by before heading to the fair grounds.
I did have a few sips of a whiskey last night so I am on the fence if I want to count it in my head or not. I know it is a small thing and I should but it was more of a tasting than a drink.....then I read that sentence and it sounds like excuses. OK I will count it.
Today is the 1st official rodeo with the cowboys & girls still trying for the 1M purse and a chance to go to finals in Vegas. Can;t remember who is in concert tonight LOL I am hoping that the crowds will slow down this evening and I can leave by 6 or 7 pm instead of 9pm.

I love this group ❤️
I have greatly reduced my drinking since June and had a great month in August with 26 out of 31 AF days. This month I am trying to be mindful and make self care a priority.
9/1-9/7: 7 out of 7 AF
9/8: AF
Moving my parents. Stress. No self care done since August. Hoping for yoga tomorrow.5 -

2 AF/ 8 days (work in progress)6 -
I had a late, last minute dinner out last night, and had a total of two glasses of wine. Great time with my family, but this morning’s workout was way tougher on me than it needed to be. I just can’t have two the night before I’m supposed to work out. I dragged all day. I just can’t do this to myself anymore.
Just one glass of wine tonight.
@Stockholm_Andy I absolutely cannot believe Queen Elizabeth passed! It seemed like she would live forever.
@joans1976 ugh how stressful. I can only imagine!7 -
Skipped a few days and losing track! I have a lot of reading to catch up on!
Sept: 4 AF days to-date. MEH.
On the plus side, I am keeping to 1-2 on non-AF days. HARD but doing it.
I am actually doing better this month with no drinks for 2 consecutive days.
Saturday is our 9 year wedding anniversary. Celebrating with a 10+ mile hike up north and lunch at my favorite Thai restaurant that does serve wine by the glass. It's a friendly place that gives you an oversized pour in a goblet. I won't complain
Sunday is planned AF and Yoga.7 -
Cool rainy day here. Very gray and dreary. I had a good weekly appointment with my counselor and have decided to cut back to every other week sessions. She is getting her AZ license so we can continue to do remote appointments once I head back down.
I had a nice massage tonight. It is so hard having gone from having had daily touch for 32 years to most days not having any physical contact with anyone. It's hard to accept that this could be my normal for the rest of my life. Watching my grandkids tomorrow night so I will get lots of touch then!
September
9/1 - 9/7 AF
9/8 AF and 2 Diet Cokes
9/9 AF and 2 Diet Cokes
I am going to try and get the Diet Coke down to one can a day for a few weeks before trying to give it up all together.
@globalhiker Happy Anniversary and enjoy your hike and lunch

Hanging in there. Wanted a glass of wine last night but I did not ! Happy about that. I will have 2 drinks tonight. Really trying for no more than 2A days a week. So far this week I succeeded! Have a happy Saturday everyone. I do believe this thread is helping me!

@Breathe57103 OMG I never even thought of that! That’s very powerful, and sobering(no pun intended). Well, hopefully you’ll get so much from the grandkids that you’ll be on touch overload and be able to think “ok that’s enough. Get off Grandma!”
@sarah7591 I can relate to your post so much. Not having a drink seems like such a small thing, but boy oh boy, when you really want one and say no anyway??? That’s a victory of Olympic proportions!4 -

9/8: AF
Moving my parents. Stress. No self care done since August. Hoping for yoga tomorrow.
9/9: AF Yesterday was tough. Not only moving my parents but also at the end there were tears from leaving the house they had called home for 32 years. And of course I had to say goodbye to my oasis, the pool. They need to downsize and they know it it’s just bittersweet.4 -
@Breathe57103 Your resilience is awe inspiring. Go easy on yourself with the Diet Coke, you’re only human. You’re making great progress.4

I had no trouble being AF Friday night. Before dinner:1 high quality fish oil pill plus 2 Good-Bye Stress gummies, light dinner and a pack of really amazing blueberries. Not too sweet, not too tart, huge, flavorable. These came from Peru. Who knew blueberries could be my new wine substitute?
I watched my husband down 5 beers in front of me and fall asleep on my lap at 7pm. How romantic LOL. He's too old to drink like a teenager.
Self-care is the SECRET. If I can nail the self-care routine, I can master self-control.11 -
@globalhiker I like your statement "Self-care is the SECRET. If I can nail the self-care routine, I can master self-control".
This is exactly where I am right now. I am trying to get some consistent self-care routines in place to help battle the anxiety/depression. I think the better we take care of ourselves the less likely we will want to consume alcohol which will negatively impact our forward momentum.
Self-Care I have undertaken in the last few months:- Weekly sessions with a counselor to help me process my husband's death
- Started taking anxiety meds - sometimes we can't do it alone
- Signed up with Massage Envy - had both a facial and a massage this week. Next appointments are already scheduled in Mesa in October.
- Rejoined Club Pilates in Mesa beginning 10/1
- Planned trip to go to the Albequerque balloon festival with my son and his family in October
- Cutting back on alcohol
- Cutting back on Diet Coke
Self-Care to start:- Find a volunteer opportunity - giving back to others will help improve my mental state
- Start cooking and eating healthy again - I enjoy cooking, but I have not cooked at all for 6 months. I would like to lose the 10 vanity pounds that I put on during Covid to get back to my happy weight.
- Develop some new interests and meet new people in Mesa. Some things include the neighborhood hiking club, learning to play pickle ball, and joining in on Bunco (I have never played, but think I might like it.)
- Detox from Social Media

@globalhiker happy anniversary!
@Breathe57103 those sound like great self-care plans.
Had an A day yesterday and regret it. It was fun at the time but my body just can’t process the strong beers I like very well these days. My fitbit summarizes all of my calories in each category for the day, and yesterday my alcohol calories (600) were higher than almost every meal. That’s a bit of a wake up call in itself.
I’m going to have an AF day today and try to run a virtual 5k tomorrow morning for 9/11. I can do it any time in September but I think doing it on the anniversary would be good.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!6 -
@pezhed...okay, I gotta ask...how does one do a "virtual" run ?? I'm imagining running in place in my rec room for 5K. Or not doing it and saying I did ?? SO not my style, that.
Muscle memory. As I was standing at my kitchen window, watching Catpuccino watching SIL #2 ride my big orange lawn tractor around my nature preserve [groundhogs-possums-deer-turkey-racoons-coyotes-alleycats-and a recent unwelcome addition, a skunk ], I reached over and twisted the cap off a bottle of pinot grigio, poured a generous glass and began to sip. what was I not thinking ??
Too late now...More glasses to follow with my "leftover" supper of brown rice, rotisserie chicken and lots of steamed veggies. Yes, Scarlet, tomorrow is another day.
Day Ten of Wine vs Water [bloop bloop] 🐠🐟🦀🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🍷6 -
I haven't posted in a while but I've been tracking. I have been so busy at work!
Mon 9/5 - Drinks (4) - Toured the Wisconsin battleship in Norfolk with weekend guests. They and we loved it.
Tue 9/6 - Drinks (5) - Guests headed out AM. Late night, drank a beer and then several glasses of wine and binged on peanut butter while binge-watching the Handmaid's Tale until 1 a.m. This is when I go off plan. I need to just go to bed on time and all is well.
Wed 9/7 - AF - Weight is up. I will do better the rest of this week
Thu 9/8 - Drinks (1) - Date night
Fri 9/9 - AF - For anyone who likes IPAs, I found a great zero calorie NA drink - Lagunitas Hop Hoppy Refresher
Sat 9/10 - Drinks (1) - Rode bikes 43 miles at the Great Dismal Swamp today, then to local brewery for music and a beer and pizza. Great day! Great weather! I'm beat!

9/10: AF I actually struggled a bit to not drink last night. But I didn’t want to break my streak, which seems silly to me. I also didn’t want the hangover as I have work to do today. I never came here with the intentions of never drinking again but I’m starting to wonder…? The thought of never drinking again kind of makes me feel pressure. I’m not sure why I feel like I need to put a label on all of this.
Thanks for listening to me ramble.
I’m in the US so I’m remembering all we lost so tragically on this day 21 years ago.9 -
Catching up with reading 3 pages.
Whirlwind here with packing. Infuriates me that "someone" (hint:only male in house) thinks packing without newspaper filler or bubble wrap is ok.
The POD is traveling 1600 miles. Do you really think those light bulbs next to the ceramic lamp base in that box along with the decorative tequila bottle are going to be intact when it gets there?
Thankfully all this has not made me WANT to drink.
It is the lunches and dinners everyone wants to have with us before we go, that are raising havoc with my healthy eating style. PLEASE take me where they offer a fresh salad!!!! After an evening of pizza Friday night, chicken parm sandwiches Thursday night, I was so lethargic from those heavy foods I needed a power nap yesterday to reboot.

LOL!! It’s just running 5k outside (or on a treadmill I guess) wherever you are but as part of a “race”. The option cropped up for most races during the pandemic, which is great because this race was based in New Jersey while I am in Virginia. Most of the time you need to send them data from an app for them to document your time, though in this case they don’t. The race is a fundraiser for the Travis Manion Foundation, so your registration fee and whatever fundraising you do goes toward the organization like a real live 5k.
Anyway I did it! Both the AF Saturday and the 5k this morning. My pace was 10:07 minutes per mile. Nothing to write home about but certainly the fastest I’ve gone in a while! So that makes my running total 4/10 AF days. I will likely drink today and take a couple consecutive days off this upcoming week to catch up.

The next day I fly to Zhihuatanejo and arrive there at 5pm, not sure about alcohol that night. I will post tomorrow morning and then pack up my laptop.
