Hello!

I've used myfitnesspal on and off for years and never engaged in the community aspect - probably to my detriment. I'm looking for accountability & people to help me with that. I eat fairly health - vegan/vegetarian diet (I do consume cheeses) - and have started back up with intermittent fasting during my work week, 12-16 hours of fasting M-F. I'm currently living in NYC as a Midwest transplant.

If anyone has any suggestions for sub-forums join please let me know.

Also, has anyone tried the premium services? Is it worth the 6$ a month for an annual?

Hi, and welcome to the Community side of MFP: IME, there's some good stuff here (and a little bit of . . . not so much?). I do think most people who post do try to be helpful, it's just that there are diverse opinions.

Background: I've been on MFP since 2015 (loss, then maintenance). I'm also vegetarian (ovo lacto) . . . for 48+ years, thin to fat to obese then back to thin again now and for the past 6+ years. I'm waaaay toooo active in the Community, kind of a sub-par MFP friend. I'm still in the Midwest (Great Lakes region 😉 - born, raised, educated, seemingly living out my days here 😆).

Sub-forums or groups: What are your interests? What are your current health or fitness goals?

The more active veg group seems to be https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/45-happy-herbivores, but it's pretty quiet these days. I don't have better suggestions, on that front.

I think there are some IF groups, but I don't IF, so I'm not a good source for that.

Are there particular types of exercise you enjoy, or hobbies? Some of the groups/threads in the Challenges area, or the Motivation and Support area, might be interesting for accountability, and to find like-minded people to be MFP friends with. You can read the starting or announcements posts for those, maybe find some things that sound helpful to you.

As far as premium: That's very individual. Many people do just fine with free MFP forever. But if you want/need some of the premium features, it can be worth it. Look at the list of features, give it a think, would be my advice. The mostly unmentioned one, that can matter if you use slower internet connections especially, is that premium is ad free.

Dive in and give the Community a try: It's not helpful for everyone, but it's been helpful me, and I've seen others say the same. Best wishes!

    Thanks for all the information!

Living in NYC some of my Midwest activities are no longer and easy option, like foraging for mushrooms or lake swimming, but I used to be a active climber working out at indoor gyms. I'd like to get back into that in NYC but a lot of the gyms here are more focusing on free climb and bouldering while my husband and I are belay climbers. Also, expensive & we plan on moving in the spring. I also like to do yoga and I am looking to incorporate that back into my fitness plan.

My fitness goal is 2 prong. I want to focus on logging everything I eat for accountability & to get back on track eating the way I know I should eat. I just started a new job so I want to settle in to my role and evaluate what my time outside of my subway commute and working hours are.

After a month (I'm half way there now). of an established routine I want to restart weight lifting or anaerobic exercise. I currently only do stationary biking on the weekend but I'm walking a lot just in commuting & going up and down steps at the stations.

My ultimate goal would to lose 20 lbs but I'm doing my benchmarks in intervals of 5's.

I'll take a look at the groups & challenges. Given that they just announce they're taking away the bar code scanning for the free app I may end up doing a free bit to try it out.

    Thanks again!
