At one point, I had put on 6lbs after Christmas. While I knew I really did not eat that many extra calories, and that the excess weight was mainly water, it was hard to be within my calorie goal, but still not see my weight going down. I was patient and after 10 days I had the whoosh on the scale, and I dropped over 8lbs over 2 days. Weight loss is definitely a mental game.
Need to continue to work on my water intake.7 -
@taxgirl1 - This week, I have been counting how much water I drink in a day and tried to drink (sip) 8 cups a day (but can't go beyond 5-6 cups) and I have observed many benefits including-
1) water retention has gone down (I suffer from food allergies and water retention is a big problem for me).
2) I feel fuller through the day so my calorie intake has also gone down (no need for expensive appetite suppressing supplements)
3) my stiff and soar knee became alright without any medication (I didn't even realize when it happened)
4) I have lost one pound in 2 days
5) I overall feel energetic.
Here is my earlier post about water benefits. I hope, it will help people realize that water IS a very good weight loss aid3 -
Water is a (mainly mental) problem for many people. For that reason, I started tracking my weight fluctuations at the end of October, so I could show how unpredictable and how important these can be and that they are nothing to worry about. While I don't have the illusion that this type of tracking will remove all anxiety, I think it should at least thelp a bit. This is a graph that only shows the fluctuation, not the weight itself. The highest fluctuation I have had in a single day was 3.5 kg. Interesting to know is that this fluctuation was not the result of excessive salt intake. It really was a random fluctuation. The lowest was actually 0 which is to be ignored as an outlier, although some points are 0 because I was unable to weigh myself on those days (or only once). I weigh myself just before eating a meal (if I don't forget it). The end of the graph is to be ignored, we are only 07 January right now, I just put in the others to minimise adjusting the axis all the time.

From MFP blog section:
How Much Water Should You Actually Drink?
If interested, one should read the original document. It is available for free.Institute of Medicine. 2005. Dietary Reference Intakes for Water, Potassium,
Sodium, Chloride, and Sulfate. Washington, DC: The National Academies Press.
https://doi.org/10.17226/10925.Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs): Recommended Intakes for Individuals, Total
Water and Macronutrients
What truly amazes and puzzles me in this, is that I learned that this is about "total water intake" and not about "drinking water" when I was in primary school, i.e. around 1967, well over 50 years ago. This is not new information by any standard.2 -
I've done much better with most of the holiday treats gone. Staying consistent with walks and yoga 🧘♀️

I am working on Dry January. I have 7/8 alcohol free days this month. That is my priority. I haven't weighed myself in awhile. I just can't get on that scale. I'm afraid it will derail my positivity. I am also hoping that by saving thousands of calories in January by not having wine, I will feel better. My jeans felt looser this week even after they came out of the wash. LOL

Came home from work and did a 20 min. yoga on youtube. During it, I was sweating and my wrists hurt, but I finished it. Now, I realize how out of shape I really am. But I know that this is reversible.6

Hey Everyone,
Hope it is ok if I jump in again for the last 3 weeks of this Challenge ending January 31/22.
I “checked out” on the last one just before Hallowe’en and need to get back on track👍
Female/56yrs/5’5” tall
Highest weight 162 in January 2021
Lowest weight 151
Todays weight - 157.2lbs
**Ultimate Goal** - 141.3lbs(10% loss at current weight, which would be 15.7lbs)
I’d like to achieve a one pound loss per week, so this **Ultimate Goal** weight should take me to the end of the next challenge which would be April 30/23.
For the end this month I’m aiming for 3-4lbs lost by January 31/23 which would see me around 154ish lbs. Fingers crossed.
Nice to see the familiar people and the new folks. This is a great group and it worked for me to lose 10lbs on my first challenge in 2021.

@RubyRed427 - I have trouble being on my hands and knees due to pain so I do standing yoga or chair yoga. There are a bunch of them on YouTube.5 -

Thanksgiving and Christmas were not kind to me weight wise.7 -
My name is Mary, 65 from Pennsylvania.
Been MIA for a few months but still logging in everyday since I started MFP 5/14/21. I was just going to hang out and not post till the next challenge and then thought "What the heck? Just jump on the train even though your late!" So here I am. Glad to see some names I know and new ones to meet.
Unfortunately lost my mojo and gained a lot back but not all Thank God! Need to get back on track and focused. I bought a NEW to me, gently used, Commercial PreCor EFX 835 Elliptical. It was delivered the beginning of November, as others here know I wore my previous 10+ year old one out from my extensive workouts. Stopped using it mid November to get my Christmas shopping done earlier than my norm. I was planning to start back up a week ago but had a GI bug and very weak. I restarted my elliptical Sunday 1/8/23 but very slow at 45 minutes and 3 miles compared to my 3 hour historical workout sessions. I will MAYBE workup to it again.
Heaviest weight 255 lbs, twice. :-(
9/14/20-255 lbs
5/14/21-232.2 lbs
4/6/22- 147.6 lbs (107.4 lbs lost) I did NOT have a surgery. Did Keto.
8/1/22- 167.2 lbs
12/1/22-198 lbs
1/1/23- 213.4 lbs
1/8/23- 204.4 lbs elliptical 45 minutes
1/9/23- 204.4 lbs elliptical 46 minutes

58y/o 5'5"
Highest weight: 131.6 (Feb)
Feb-May Challenge: -5lbs
May-July Challenge: -2.8lbs
July-Oct Challenge:-2.2 lbs
11/29 124.8 (+4.2 lbs) Yikes!
12/6 123 (-1.8 lbs)
1/3 128.1 (+5.1 lbs)
1/10 127.2 (-0.9 lbs)
Hopefully I can continue this downward trend. I've been focusing on getting at least 8000 steps/day in and working out at the gym 3x/wk; while of course eating clean. Slow and steady wins the race...

I’m so mad at myself☹️
I only lasted ONE day in my promise to myself to get back on track with eating properly, logging food and stop binge eating. I did walk Monday & Tuesday, but my emotions and depression take over and I give up.
Yesterday I started in the afternoon with a homemade mixed berry crisp which I consumed in about 5 minutes! Then I went to grocery store and bought Peanut Butter( Just Peanuts ) and two chocolate bars - ATE everything all at once.
Frustrated….

@55isfly22
Here is a tip to eat junk food and still save you calories. Keep a glass of water with you when eating something high calorie. Take one sip of water after one morsel of whatever you are eating. Soon your stomach will be filled with water and you won't be able to eat any more.
I used this trick when I felt like eating pizza. I could eat only one slice instead of polishing off the whole pizza.6 -
