LOSING AND KEEPING WEIGHT OFF FOREVER

I truly believe the only way to lose weight and keep it off forever (that's what we want, right?) is to to eat a high protein/low fat diet, similar to KETO, and eat 1-2 meals a day with NO SNACKING. Drink water, unsweet tea or balcak coffee in-between to keep yourself hydrated and do this as a normal routine.
I know people will object to this but as a RN with 50 years + in the medical field, I've done the research and believe this to be the way. Please watch videos by Dr. Jason Fung or read the book THE OBESITY CODE to get a better understanding. I've lost 60 in the past 2 years and KEPT THEM OFF... have 40 more to go.
Please feel free to friend me and I'll encourage you as much as I can.

I do think in all your posts you need to emphasize this is a ‘for me’ opinion.
Not everyone will succeed using your methods. I most certainly would fail. It includes restrictions I did not want or need.
Eating the foods I like, within the meal timing and structure I like, using a reasonable calorie deficit, had me lose the weight I wanted to lose and maintain since 2009.
(This wouldn’t work for everyone either, but then, I’m not trying to tell people it would.)
I haven’t needed to count calories since 2010 and have maintained within a 5 lbs range.
I am pleased you have found what works for you but it needn’t be, nor should it be, for everyone.
Cheers, h.

Sounds like a diet plan. It would be miserable for me. I lost 50 lbs from August to April last year and have maintained since. Sitting here on the couch, I just finished my after-work snack of popcorn and Diet Coke. I’ll be eating my third meal of the day a little later tonight.6 -
My hubby and dr are trying to get me to gain weight, yet I eat 3 meals a day, a snack if I'm hungry, and dessert every night. My dessert is usually cookies and chocolate chips, but sometimes nuts or trail mix.5

I'm happy you are finding success, but: I'm sad that an RN with 50+ years experience thinks that there is a one size fits all plan for weight loss and maintenance success. I am not you. This would not work for me, but what I am currently doing is. Please don't mislead others into believe that there exists one weight loss solution that works for everyone, every time. It doesn't exist (beyond burning more calories that you ingest). Some people might read your post, try your strategy, and then not understand why it didn't work for them and become discouraged. With all sincerest respect, please realize that your experience is anecdotal and is not for everyone.12

If it's low fat then it's not anything like keto, nor is keto a higher protein diet. Personally I consume a whole food diet and one that would be considered high in animal products and my health markers have been outstanding and I'm fairly active and workout with mostly weight resistance and some sports, and I'm just about to turn 70.
I think consuming fewer carbohydrates where mostly protein fill the calorie equivalent from reducing carbs resembles the standard American diet back before the food pyramid which was in the low 40% of calories as opposed to the mid 50% now and that seems to have had an effect on satiety especially with the increased reliance on ultra processed foods, so basically a diet higher in whole foods as well, which also saw an obesity percentage in low teens as opposed to now in the mid 30's and of course people don't seem to move as much now either, so there is that to contend with. What the best way to eat is again a different thing than what might be ideal for a population but I do think fewer carbs, more whole foods and more animal products as opposed to less is a healthy way forward.2 -

I'm in year 7 or so of maintaining a healthy weight (consistently lower 20s BMI) after previous literal decades of overweight/obesity.
I'm moderately high protein (close to 1g per pound of estimated LBM), but not at all similar to keto (I eat 225g+ of carbs most days), with snacks' and meals' timing arbitrary and quite varied depending on the day.
Your experience is not my experience. I think Fung is off-base scientifically (as do many of his peers).
I lost 50+ pounds back in 2015-16 at age 59-60 (while severely hypothyroid BTW) - obese to a healthy weight - just managing my calorie intake - no major changes in exercise or range of foods I eat. I have zero pounds more to go, to be healthy.
I'm not arrogant enough to think my personally preferred way is the only way. Any reasonably health-promoting way that's sustainable for an individual is a good way, IMO - and that tends to vary by individual. If you find keto (or close) to be your sustainable formula to reach your goals, I'm cheering for you, sincerely.
I accept all FRs from profiles that appear to be real people, but I'm unfortunately a sub-par MFP friend, on that side of things - more of a Community forum kind of gal, I guess. I still log most days, but not every day. (Today: No idea how to log a delicious tofu banh mi sandwich, not worth the fuss at this point: I know my calorie needs, can watch the scale and keep things reasonable, no stress required.)

How can we encourage you to see your way isn't the way for everyone?
Believing something to be true doesn't MAKE it true.12 -
I, personally, have no problem with IF. If it fits well with your lifestyle, then give it a try. Most weight loss techniques have to be a good fit. I can't do it because I exercise a lot and am older--67. I get light headed if I don't eat regularly, and don't want to faint in the pool (this happened to someone on a restricted diet and it's not a pretty sight).
2 years of "successful" maintaining means nothing. You need at least 5 years. Most of the posters above have arrived.
My other problem with IF is that those who do it are almost religious in their enthusiasm--note multiple posts on the subject. We have a friend here in Italy that does it and that's all he wants to talk about. He used to be an interesting person. It's as if they need to be surrounded by "disciples" to keep the enthusiasm going. Perhaps because it's a restrictive diet and not easy for many.
Being a nurse or doctor means you have to be careful of what you endorse. My Mom was a nurse and I have great respect for them, but they are human.
For the newbies and lurkers: IF can be great, but so can other ways of calorie restriction. You may have to try a few things to see what works best for you. So don't get discouraged. Give things a chance--a couple of months at least.
Posters on here are trying to help, but take advice with a grain of salt.8 -
Everyone needs to find what works best for them.
In my opinion, the true way to lose weight and not regain it is to find a way of eating that is sustainable for the rest of your life. For me, the type of diet you describe would make me miserable. I would not be able to keep that up for long.
I lost weight simply by controlling the amount of calories I consume...not worrying about macros or number of meals. It worked, and I have easily maintained my loss for over 7 years. I enjoy not having restrictions regarding the types of food I can eat. I like having the control of budgeting my calories as I see fit. I like the flexibility of eating all the foods I enjoy, just keeping the portions within my calorie goal.
Genuinely, it's great that you found what works for you and I hope you continue to have success. But, it's important to understand that there are many paths to success, as many of us here can attest to.5 -
I’ve been a teacher for 20+ years, and have figured out a pretty good structure to my classroom. Should I tell every other teacher that my methods are “the only way” to teach?
Your post is ridiculous.
Too many variables from person to person.9 -

Glad you found something you like.
The 'only way', no not even close.
Good luck with the next 40lb sincerely.
As someone who lost 110lbs myself I know it takes work.
Hope to see you're still here and successful in your quest next year.
