WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR FEBRUARY 2023

zug56qd3k41f.png

:) It's time for a fresh start and I'm looking forward to doing it with all of you. This thread is a great place to find friendship, support, and encouragement.

:):) One of our members described it like this:
Welcome, welcome. When I first found this group, someone said it's like a "salon" = cozy café. Different conversations at different tables. There's the fun table, the support/listener/good cry table, the cooking and recipe table, the health/weight loss table, etc. Some of us jump from table to table. All the time. It's really OK to sit by yourself in the corner and just listen. For as long as you want."

:) It is more personal if you sign your post with a name or nickname and a location, specific or general.

:) Be sure to bookmark the thread so you can find it again.

My word for 2023 is "please" to remind me to be kind and do things that will please me and the others in my life, to remind me that politeness (saying "Please") will take me far in dealing with others, and to urge me make my environment as pleasing as possible (organizing and decluttering might fit in here).

Happy birthday Sue! Your plans sound wonderful!

Was a good day. Ate well, water in, and steps done. Heading to sleep as I already cat napped on the couch😉

    Happy Birthday Sue!!
It was just a light dusting this morning.🙃
Thanks Barbie for starting us off right as always!

Today husband treated me to Arbeys, and I ordered a Rueben, curly fries.
This evenings dinner 3 street taco sized tortillas pizzas: sauted mushrooms, some sausage bits, a spoonful of sun dried tomatoes and some diced tomatoes, black olives and Italian shredded cheese.
Tomorrow is an eating lighter day!
No real goals this month, just to persevere through.

Sue - Your birthday treat sounds amazing! :D You'll probably come back needing a holiday. Enjoy every minute. <3

Thanks again Barbie for being our firm tether. :)

Busy day. Picking up the girls from Art and keeping them until 3 ish. Then I have my friends' Zoom at 4. My DDIL dropped the remark that she was taking the kids to Fatto a Mano for early dinner and asked if we wanted to join them. I said yes, so as soon as I have finished the Zoom, we will dash for the bus. :D

I'm hoping the girls won't be all 'arted out' so we can decorate some of the coasters I bought. If they don't feel like it we can do something else. Bea was keen to play Swashbuckle on my tablet.

So lovely to have a new month. I love your meme, Barbie. I am feeling as if I need to let go of the past and look to the future. I have a couple of changes I need to make in my life. My word for 2023 is FREE. Old loops of thought, old heaviness, I need to let go. Today is a new day. Right now is enough.

    Good Wednesday!
I ended January with a little better sleep hours 6.5hrs, better on water intake 84%, more active minutes(blew this one out of the market), steps still low (averaged 6545/day), still down weight wise from beginning of January.

For February, I will continue those goals with only adjustments to active minutes. Lots of doctor appointments to get through. I am actually excited for this year. Only one more full month of winter‐yay!

Stay safe and warm or cool!
Congratulations on goals met or improved!

Only if you're interested in doing something like this as we go along ...

    Feel Good Feb

Or perhaps you've got something else in mind. :)

Another idea is one that I've tried before ...

    Exercising the Alphabet in February

In other words, on February 1, you'd walk to a street that starts with A or do an exercise video hosted by someone whose name starts with A or something ... A.

On February 2, you'd go swimming at a Beach or play a game of Baseball or something ... B.

On February 3, you'd go Cycling or Climb some stairs or something ... C.

    and so on.

There are, of course, 26 letters in the alphabet and 28 days in February, so you'd have 2 free days if you didn't exercise those days or couldn't fit in the next letter of the alphabet.

    Good morning ladies!

Here's a topic for discussion at the weight loss table this morning - "obesity is genetic":

I'm not sure who this gal is. It caused a kerfuffle yesterday among some docs I follow who did not agree with the genetic theory and pointed to ultra-processed foods for part of the problem.

I did a little research. It appears there's a gene, or combination of genes, that might predispose some folks to obesity. If you feel like slogging through an article: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41576-021-00414-z

It doesn't explain all obesity, especially when 50 years ago obesity wasn't as common and most folks were slimmer back then. I'm betting we ate better quality food, not so much of it (family style meals where the kids fought over the last chicken wing), and had more exercise.

And, consider that for eons, nature has engineered post-menopausal gals to weight gain some around the middle which didn't necessarily adversely affect their health or lifespan. Anecdotally, I'm thinking of my grandmothers who were pleasingly plump and healthy into their mid-90's without ever worrying about going on a diet or their BMI's. :p

The Smart BMI Calculator appears to support that - https://www.smartbmicalculator.com/

This topic is complicated and can be controversial.

    Thoughts?

Adding an edit - I didn't watch this whole 60 minutes segment, so there's a chance this gal was taken out of context. Just sayin'. ;)
