3/6: AF - I had my six-week post-op follow-up and the doc released me to do whatever I feel like doing! My suspicions were also confirmed that it's going to take more time - three to six months - before my foot starts feeling back to normal. It's not happening as quickly as I'd hoped but forward progress is being made. I'm planning AF until Thursday.

You being cleared for normal activity is fantastic news!!! Yay!!!! So happy for you. I hear you with impatience with not being at 100% quite yet, but this is overall fantastic.6 -
@lmlmrn yeah, it’s probably a slight bit too early to tackle those mountain passes if you’re not comfortable driving in the snow. Although, I must say, the road departments in mountainous regions do a great job of keeping the roads clear and salted. They deal with this all the time, they are old pros at it.
@globalhiker it’s the curse of hard workin’ folks like us. It’s so difficult to wind down after going the extra mile at work. I’m finding that lately I’ve been making mistakes at work because I’m trying to multitask too much during the shift. Which stresses me out. Wash rinse repeat. So I don’t know, I hear meditation helps, as well as concentrating on cultivating fulfilling relationships and activities outside of work.
I had a uterine biopsy yesterday (too much endometrial lining). OMFG that hurt!!!!! “Discomfort” my fanny!!!!! @joans1976 I was thinking of how you go through painful radiation treatments every day. I have a lot of respect for you and how you’re handling it all. Clearly I’m in the camp is “knock me out and wake me when the hairdresser comes.”10 -

3/7: AF - Friends are coming today for the weekend. I'm really looking forward to seeing them. Food and drink will be a challenge for the next few days!

@Womona Oh geez! Did they use the "you're going to feel some pressure now?" Thats code for "we're going to do something incredibly painful to you now, we would like you to grin and bear it." Im a little bitter. I had a bunch of needles poked directly into my tumor prior to surgery and it hurt so much and all they would give me was Tylenol and ice. Not even ibuprofen (because bleeding) so other women, who you would think were on your side, would see you writhing in pain and offer Tylenol and ice with a smile on their face. It was infuriating. I have had uterine biopsies before and they do really, really hurt. Radiation doesnt hurt while its happening, it hurts after. I was actually way more nervous for the procedures before the surgery because I knew I would be awake. I am also camp "knock me out." I'm sorry you had to go through that, hopefully you're feeling better now.5

Now that I'm looking, my magnolia tree is covered in white buds. Love that the flowers come before the leaves.
You still have that lovely snow to enjoy !! ⛸️ ❄️ ⛷️
Haha, I hope that I don't have to wait 76 years for my Lily of the Valley to bloom.
I googled, it should produce blooms this year, the 3rd.
You can grow Magnolia in Pitts? What a wonderful smell.

I am Dawn, I live in South Eastern British Columbia.
I joined this thread in November of 2018, a daily drinker at the time
My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 16AF days for the shortened month of February.
I do this diary style, I normally post the next morning.
Sunday March 05 - AF after an indulgent first weekend feeling healthy and active in awhile. Doctor's appointment about my sore ankle Monday morning, then back to work at the restaurant for the first time since Covid. Time to get some AF days in!!
Monday March 06 - AF - I had my first day back to the restaurant with full intentions of going to do my other jobs afterward. I felt fine, but by the end of my shift was tired. I will attempt the same again today but not putting too much pressure on myself since my energy levels are not quite back up yet.
Tuesday March 07 - AF - I really felt like having drinks last night after dragging my *kitten* home. I have too many jobs this week on top of the restaurant though, so I had to stay AF. As usual when AF, my weight is down the next (and every) morning after I don't have drinks.

Okay so I just spent some time making personal comments to you wonderful folks here and then lost my draft, ugh! Must move on to my morning now.
Thanks everyone for being here and sharing your stories.
@Ann262 Welcome! I am sure many of us can relate to your insight on how alcohol is a stimulant for food and it can tire us out — that all does equal overeating.

No more than two glasses per A day
I post each morning from the PST time zone.
I had this recent thought/feeling: If I would choose to have wine two nights in a row (weekend example) that might trigger the daily habit again. Therefore I have avoided doing so……interesting. I’m a bit worried to try and ‘experiment.’
May you have the best day!8 -
@globalhiker I personally understand workaholism and stress. I finally took early retirement to find more enjoyment in life. Perhaps you can spend a few minutes writing down what activities or time spent would bring you more personal peace and joy.
Such as, walking outdoors, reading a book on health and wellness, or having lunch with a friend now and then.
Sending positive thoughts your way.
For those of you having treatments and still healing from surgeries I’m sending positive thoughts and even a little prayer for your strength and healing.6 -
It is only 2:45 EST and I am already trying to resist a post-workday glass of wine (one of those days) - luckily DH is on work travel so I have the kiddos which in itself is both a reason to stay strong and a distraction just to be sure, planning a Target trip to get some spring crafts and get out of the house.

@Womona Ouch- that sounds positively painful. Wishing you well!5

March accountability: 3 days AF
Alcohol: 5 days (8 drinks)
Days over 2 glasses: 0
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days this month.
3/8 - 1 drink; 1 shot of bourbon with a full can of Diet Coke
Poured my drink ... actually measuring and then sipped on it for a few hours continuing to top with more Diet Coke and not going back to the cabinet to pour another full drink. Amazing how much flavor is retained in the glass as you add more of the soda Baby steps.9 -
@Lilylady3k - I understand your comment, when I used to drink diet soda mixed with bourbon, it tasted better to me the more diluted it was...
I hear you all, and appreciate your advice. I will work on limiting my work hours. Promise!
@dawnbgegethealthy, push me please...YES I need to get myself out of the work chair and outside running or hiking - on a daily basis - to get my dose of sunshine and nature and friendly smiling people. This is hands down the best thing I ever did for myself and I have to get myself out there to do it again on a daily basis.

Hello! I’m Amanda, I’m a crazy cat lady from Michigan! I joined this forum in June of 2022 and since September I have decreased my drinking to one day a month! This is a huge accomplishment from where I was and I absolutely could not have done it without the wonderful mix of people in this group!
March goals: just make it through the month unscathed! (27 doctor appointments)
Alcohol goals: 95-100% AF
3/1-3/7: 7 out of 7 AF
3/8: AF
35 days AF
14 out of 20 radiation sessions done!
Yesterday was killer with work and appointments then more work and talking to the psychopath Narcissa. I ended the day with art therapy though and it was such a good thing to wrap the day up with!
I know what people mean by workaholic. Obviously you all know my boss and her management team are a gang of life sucking bullies. When I first got diagnosed with cancer, I was still trying to please them (and everyone else) and deal with having cancer. I was still working 10 and 12 hour days and arranging my appointments around work. My poor therapist was practically banging her head on her desk telling me to put myself first. After surgery in December, I literally could not pull the long days and decided to go down to 8 hour days. This was weird and hard but I needed to do it. Now, with radiation, some days I work 7 hours, some days 3. And I don’t sweat it. I take breaks because I have to. And I don’t feel guilty. It’s quite freeing to be honest. I’m finally putting myself first and advocating for myself. In many areas of my life, not just work. It’s too bad that cancer is what pushed me to this but it is the silver lining of it.
TLDR: Cancer diagnosis made me start caring about myself more and work less9 -
@2timesacharmmfp A Target run! What crafts did you get?
Good distraction technique!3 -
Hello My "LA" friends! Happy March! I am SO ready for spring! My goal is 16 AF days. I usually post the next morning.
3/8: Drinks (4) - Why is it my plans and intentions go bust when I have a glass of wine, and also when I decide I can do it on my own without the tracking? I had a glass before dinner and one with dinner out with our friends. I made a great food choice for dinner. If I had stopped there, that would have been fine. However, back at home, DH fell asleep on the sofa and I had a couple more glasses of wine and pigged out on snacks while watching TV. I took PTO days today and tomorrow to hang out with our friends while they're here. I am seriously considering staying AF.

@2timesacharmmfp A Target run! What crafts did you get?
Good distraction technique!
They have some really cute Spring/Easter crafts! We got a few sets of wood pieces to paint (cars and flowers) and I couldn't resist these little bunny family pieces: https://www.target.com/p/3pc-freestanding-wood-base-3d-bunny---mondo-llama--8482-/-/A-86870682
By the time we got home from Target and dinner we didn't have time to actually do them but it was fun to get them out of the house a bit - and I stuck with my planned AF day!7 -

I totally understand this! I feel like the hardest time for me to stick to goals is when I've already started, especially like you said if I didn't plan and or/track.4 -

Hello everyone, been little MIA for a few days. Actually said to myself I wasn't going to post until I had an AF day. Not sure when that will be, so here I am!
Well, so much for the stricter goals in March. I haven't met one of them.
Not sure where my head is at....
Maybe I just need that mini vacation to "reset". I haven't been anywhere since August and really haven't done anything exciting either. Maybe it's withdrawal from football season??

March goals are going to be a bit more strict as I really want to drop a few pounds before the end of the month.
Week 1 (ending 3/4) = 0
Week 2 (ending 3/11) = 0
Week 3 (ending 3/18) = 2 - 3 of wine per week, less is better
Week 4 (ending 3/25 = 2 - 3 of wine per week, less is better
Week 5 (ending 4/1) = Mini (4 day vacation in Vegas) - No rules
@pokey4321 ~ How are you doing on your journey. This month, I am totally relating. And yes, staying busy (with your hands or something that makes it difficult to drink) works. Good Luck
@joans1976 ~ pack the clothes away so that you don't see them, then when you're ready - sell or give away. I know too well the "jinx effect"🙂 I have that desire to purge as well. I did a good job on my kitchen a few weeks ago...need to do my closet. Glad you went to ER to make sure you were ok. But even more glad that they didn't find anything! Love the Dr.!
@Sunnydays930 ~ Thanks for the article on sleeping I haven't read it yet but will this weekend. I know what when I reduce and/or eliminate wine - I sleep very well.
@Michieb125 ~ No not silly! I've been procrastinating for years in painting my house. I had the hardest time picking colors. I've finally settled on the first floor and painting is in progress!
@Rubyred427 ~ ouch! Sorry to hear that you broke your leg. How did you break it? Get well and back on your feet very soon!
@missmay ~ your photo is so beautiful and relaxing. Wish I was there!5 -
Hello everyone
Baby steps, or in my case a bit of backwards slide. A beer at lunch yesterday. Today a sip of wine lasting hours. Stress is getting to me. I am working on it.
@Womona Over the years with snow/ice and winding roads..ya know the ones with solid wall on one side and massive cliff on the other. I have this crazy hand sweating, fast heartbeat fear. It gets worse and worse as the years have gone by. So if I can avoid black ice, blowing snowstorms I will. Plus, based on the DOT here in this state, even thought we have a mountain range go through the entire state N to S the poor workers have their hands tied most of the time to clear the roads. Don't even get me started on local roads never mind the passes.
I feel good today though I got 4 more tubs packed and we are dwindling down on non essential items to pack and living with just the minimum until we return.
I will contact an agent next week so he can have a heads up to our plans.
Well anyway I enjoy all your posts and thank you to everyone who listens to my blathering. I am off to find a munchie...I have this GIANT container of cheese puff balls looking at me giving me a wink....I think it wants me to 'break the seal' ....not sure I can deny it's request

Late check in for the day! Great posts and also found some fun Easter crafts at Target this week - saving them for the sleepover ‘party’ weekend with the grandkids a week from tomorrow.

I so appreciate all the motivational support! Focusing on staying AF as much as possible. Today was 2 light beers but out of habit and I had no craving for it.
Sticking to my calorie count and that means stuff like raw carrots and blueberries in the afternoon if I get hungry. I found a tea called Happy Tummy, Open Nature brand (ginger, chamomile, peppermint, bitter fennel, turmeric, lemon balm and caffeine free)...and I will have that mid-afternoon. Dinner rolls around and I am not hungry so hopefully I am on to something!

As I was laying on the radiation table yesterday wondering how on earth I was going to make it through another 5 treatments, my mind turned to celebration when it’s done. (Treatment isn’t over when radiation is over but it is a big accomplishment.) Of course I thought of alcohol but I know with how stressed out I feel and all this weird pressure pushing down on me I would not stop at 1 or 2 drinks. Then the hangover and the guilt and all that comes with that. There are other ways to celebrate (like catching a plane to Bali) I just would like to forget about the C word, even for a few hours.
Big snowstorm here right now, an adventure to get to radiation in it!9 -
@Michieb125 Great crafts! I love putting paint on wooden things. I like to paint rocks too. I’ve been making comfort stones lately, maybe I’ll post a picture later. Michaels is my happy place!7

3/9 - 2 wine. Did not join DH for bourbon & coke before and after the wine. Just the wine at dinner. Then after the wine a little sparkling water

I know I’ve done something similar, and I’m sure many on this thread have done so as well!!!! It’s like the “F it” gene turns on or something.6 -
@joans1976 a tropical paradise as a reward for finishing treatment sounds delightful- if @MissMay ’s picture is anything to go by! Maybe a massage and a mani/pedi? New outfit? NEW JOB!!!!!!! Haha!
I am about to drag myself to my workout class. I don’t want to go, but my weight is creeping up and up. I’ve completely missed my goal of being AF 3 days of the week. I managed one. Granted, I had a rough week of bad PMS and the biopsy, so I could blame it on that. But I need to get back on track.
Ok off to the gym!5 -

3/9: Drinks (3) - Well, it turns out that I'm not sticking to plans while our friends are here but I'm having a lot of fun. At least I haven't been going off the charts with the alcohol. No hangovers, but after having red wine with dinner for a couple nights has reminded me that it causes me to have night sweats. Last night we went to see that crazy movie, Cocaine Bear. I won't write anything about it so as not to put forth any spoilers, except I liked it better than expected. It's so nice to be able to spend time with our friends. Today is Jamestown.
