3/8: Drinks (4) - Why is it my plans and intentions go bust when I have a glass of wine, and also when I decide I can do it on my own without the tracking? I had a glass before dinner and one with dinner out with our friends. I made a great food choice for dinner. If I had stopped there, that would have been fine. However, back at home, DH fell asleep on the sofa and I had a couple more glasses of wine and pigged out on snacks while watching TV. I took PTO days today and tomorrow to hang out with our friends while they're here. I am seriously considering staying AF.

I know I’ve done something similar, and I’m sure many on this thread have done so as well!!!! It’s like the “F it” gene turns on or something.
I totally get IDGAF at times. It's really hard to overcome so better to prevent. If you can figure that out, please share.4 -
@joans1976 Well done on the radiation table steering thoughts to what you're looking forward to vs. dread. Gold star for mind control. Hang in there! You are on the back 9.
Happy Friday, LA friends. AF so far this week, not sure how many that is for the month. I'm more of a one week at a time gal. Rock solid on ST the last 2 weeks (!) but I have a ways to go yet to recoup lost strength. Deficit eating consistent so far this week; if I stick with that through the weekend, it's enough to counter the last 2 weeks in a slight surplus, so that's motivating.
DH oot all week, haven't spoken and don't have a plan for the weekend. Last time I just winged it without a plan, I consumed more of everything than I intended, so at some point today I need to come up with a weekend plan. Last day of internships is today! DD#3 departs this afternoon for Spring Break and roommate departs tomorrow. The roommate will return mid-week next week for a couple days then they're back at school until graduation.

I am Dawn, I live in South Eastern British Columbia.
I joined this thread in November of 2018, a daily drinker at the time
My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 16AF days for the shortened month of February.
I do this diary style, I normally post the next morning.
Wednesday March 08 - 2 1/4 drinks. 2 would have been fine. Planned AF now until Saturday.
Thursday March 09 - AF - Working late nights trying to catch up on the jobs that I couldn't get to during my bout with Covid. A cocktail or two would have been nice, but I have a long Friday ahead so didn't.
Rolling total: 5AF day out of 9 days.4 -
Happy Friday!
@joans1976 you are almost to the finish line on treatments! A huge accomplishment worth celebrating. I love painting on wood too and don’t have to spend much for that kind of fun.
@ahoy_m8 I like what you said about surplus eating and deficit days. I am curious if you generally follow a calorie counting approach for your goals. I do, and remind myself an extra day surplus day or week eating doesn’t ever mean I undo all my efforts.
@globalhiker I must try that Happy Tummy tea - love those ingredients and it sounds so calming.
@Lilylady3k I had a similar night yesterday.
2 planned wine and a sparkling water later.
No A tonight but Mexican dinner out with family.
For me, they don’t mix well for me for some reason. Looking for the best “choice” for dinner, maybe fajitas?
March accountability: 20-23 AF days
AF - 7
A - 2
No more than two glasses per A day
Will plan for 1-2 glasses tomorrow night while at home with husband.
I try to post each morning from the PST time zone.6 -
@dawnbgethealthy You are so logical and grounded. Can I come live with you for a month?6
-
March accountability: 4 days AF
Alcohol: 6 days (10 drinks)
Days over 2 glasses: 0
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days this month.
3/10 - AF; Fever Tree Blood Orange and then Diet Cranberry Sprite both with slices of lime in a beautiful glass
@Michieb125 Enjoy your evening out for Mexican food! Fajitas are a great idea. Just so hard to stay away from the chips. I can pass on the expensive margaritas ... like my homemade ones better. But I've not had one since last summer now that I think about it. We cooked at home this evening ... some sort of Tomato/Corn/Roasted Red Peppers Poached Cod fish with sautéed shallots, cilantro & lime. Served it with flour tortillas. Not sure if you would call it spanish or Mexican or what. But it was fresh and tasty.4 -
Only one glass of wine tonight, and crushed my goals with eating and exercise!!! Hubby made delicious salmon with green beans, and I didn’t snack on crackers like I normally would. Hope the scale comes down soon- just gotta keep up with making good choices.6
-
Sitting drink drinking water...yes on a Friday night. Just mega-beat from the whole work week and I have no energy to run out and buy wine and drink.
Planned hikes for this weekend, both days!
Kept to calorie count and actually skipped dinner due to an afternoon chocolate....you know me, if it's not wine, I need my chocolate. Easter candy is out in the stores and it brings back memories of when I was a kid
I hope you all hang in there and plan out a really good weekend for yourself.

I guess I should pop in and at least say hi, give a quick update.
Wednesday morning, Bentley let me know it was time. Wednesday evening, we said goodbye.
I've been drinking a lot, more than I should, and using a little. I will get back right, but not tonight, probably not tomorrow either. My sister is in town to visit for a few days, and a good friend from NOLA drove over today, so we have some support and distraction. Har-dog is missing B, and I'm struggling with watching him grieve almost as much as with grieving myself. It has been a really hard six weeks or so and I've felt so very alone and overwhelmed and now one stress is done and I'm on to a new one and I don't really know anymore, I'm just trying to get through and process everything. I'm not good at this stuff.
I tried to catch up with the thread but it's a lot of comments here now in just the few days I've been out. I guess I'll just put it this way: I hope everybody is doing okay, and if you're not, my thoughts are with you.
On a positive note, I found some time to pick up a guitar and blast through some Amon Amarth, Type O and In Flames tonight. I'm out of shape, but not so far gone that I couldn't pull it off. There's some catharsis in playing.
I'll be around more as things settle back into a more normal routine.

Hello! I’m Amanda, I’m a crazy cat lady from Michigan! I joined this forum in June of 2022 and since September I have decreased my drinking to one day a month! This is a huge accomplishment from where I was and I absolutely could not have done it without the wonderful mix of people in this group!
March goals: just make it through the month unscathed! (27 doctor appointments)
Alcohol goals: 95-100% AF
3/1-3/7: 7 out of 7 AF
3/8: AF
35 days AF
14 out of 20 radiation sessions done!
3/9: AF
As I was laying on the radiation table yesterday wondering how on earth I was going to make it through another 5 treatments, my mind turned to celebration when it’s done. (Treatment isn’t over when radiation is over but it is a big accomplishment.) Of course I thought of alcohol but I know with how stressed out I feel and all this weird pressure pushing down on me I would not stop at 1 or 2 drinks. Then the hangover and the guilt and all that comes with that. There are other ways to celebrate (like catching a plane to Bali) I just would like to forget about the C word, even for a few hours.
Big snowstorm here right now, an adventure to get to radiation in it!
3/10 AF
TGIF! It’s the weekend people! No radiation for 2 days! 😃 My plan for today is to be awesome and rest up! I may go out and seek out some AF options. Or I might stay in my pajamas all day.7 -
@Womona Yas girl, go get it! Wise decisions will make you see a difference! I hope you have a great weekend!
@mfowler883 Virtually wrapping you in a big hug. These are tough days. I’m glad you’re seeing friends. We are here if you need us!6 -
@mfowler883 my heart goes out to you.
And dear Bentley, may he find my 3 dogs up in that dog park in the sky and forever run happily and pain free ❤🐾8 -
Hi all! I love that I came across this post. I have cut down drinking by TONS over the last year or two. I might have a drink every other month at a birthday party or some big celebration. Would love to have new friends. Feel free to add!8
-
@Stacimfit, I agree. Hoping to get the motivation here to drink less and have more AF days than not.6
-
@mfowler883 great to see
you back here although I’m saddened to hear of your loss of Bentley. Losing a beloved pet is the hardest experiences ever and they do seem to tell us when it’s time to go over the rainbow bridge. I have lost two dogs myself and know it takes time to heal. Be kind to yourself during this time.5 -
Had a really fun time with my DS and DD’s families last night at the Mexi restaurant. Chose the grilled fish taco plate and enjoyed every bite.
Had a hankering to order a drink but my adult kids abstained as they are doing LA on their own. It felt good to have the plain water which was totally fine. DS ordered a Virgin drink and I haven’t done that yet but seems super reasonable. My clan used to throw back tequila like there was no tomorrow. Healthy progress for all!! I honestly can’t believe we are changing that family dynamic. Thanks for listening

I'm doing pretty good with have AF days but but need to be more conscious of how many I have on my A days. Overdid it last night but won't let that derail me. I have to keep reminding myself that I am drinking way less now than I was a few months ago and that's not nothing.

@mfowler883 My heart goes out to you. It is heartbreaking to lose our pets.5

@mfowler883 ...sitting here holding my HOH on my lap, dripping tears onto his fur [ Catpuccino "WTF is her problem ??} . So sorry that Bentley has left you. You did the best for him that you could , and provided him a loving home when he might have not even had life. Please remember what my Middle Daughter learned too late...Alcohol grieving is not fully entering into the process, just moving thru time.
Sweet thoughts from other posters about Bentley joining their furry loved ones ❤️💙 love it !!
Come back and join us when you can. And bring the photos.4 -
@mfowler883 I was just catching up and saw your post. I am so sorry for your loss, Bentley gave it his best and so did you. Huge hug to you and your family
My A days and AF days are running neck in neck. While I watch my weight go up and up. My sister and BIL will be here next week for our mothers 89th B/D. I am looking forward to this.
We are having our home inspected next week then the week after meet with our realtor. I am hoping we find a new forever home sooner rather than later, but at the same time I don't want to compromise.
will try and pop back in soon8 -
Thanks, y'all. I'm not staying wasted all day or anything like that; I'm going through the process. I'm just....at the end of the night I am doing what I need to do to get my brain to shut the hell up and let me sleep. I know it hurts and that's okay and I'm missing him and that's okay. My friend and my sister have both been through this as well, and their insight has been really helpful. I know that we gave him six years of good and happy living that he wouldn't have had if we hadn't gone and got him, and there is solace in that.
Thank you again, all of you, for your kind and compassionate words. They truly help. I'm probably going to take a few more days away, not thinking too much about what I eat or how much I drink. I know at least a few of you were following my ordeal with Mr B and felt like I should at least pop in to update. He was such a good boy, and I will treasure the memories I have of him.
One day, we were getting an oil change. Wife and I were in the front, son and his girlfriend at the time were in the back with Har and B. The guy at the oil change place kept on asking if he could pet the dogs and we kept on telling him no. He reached in anyway and tried to pet Harley, and Bentley flew across the back seat and bit him hahaha dummy was like, but I didn't try to touch him. I'm like, that's his brother, did you really think he'd let you reach in and touch him? You got what you had coming to ya. LOL!
Homemade guac and margs tonight while sitting around and yakking it up with good company.

Today was a total "oopsy" day.
St, Patrick's Day Parade that I planned to follow on EMS scanner for the drunken idiocy, but since it was snowy & icy, I didn't . Not willing to learn of any sad outcomes, just fogedaboudit.
Instead, made crab egg rolls for the freezer. Underestimated the amount of filling needed for the amount of wrappers. Thought that I could have wrappers left over for "pumpkin ravioli" . Well, only 2 wraps left , so, forget that...whip up some cream cheese-crab filling for 8 won tons. Again, a miss.
The large amount of cream cheese /crab filling left over was enough for a large sandwich...grab some 12 grain bread out of the freezer...oops...that was pumpernickle....Never mind...Rather nice...
Some of the Icelandic chocolate that I ordered this week was for MD. She is crazy about raspberry & dark chocolate.
It was not guaranteed gluten free so I was insecure...I offered her a small taste but she grabbed a larger chunk...then, snatched the whole chocolate bar ...and consumed it within 2 days...Embarrassed, she would not discuss the aftermath for a week.
Basically, if it was possible to bathe in that chocolate, she would be first in line...with a snorkle ...I haven't told her that I have another raspberry bar tucked away in my house.
I haven't had anything more than a nibble of any of the chocolate except a bit of that raspberry bar from the 10 different varieties delivered at the same time . Hoping to trade chocolate for wine in the very near future.
The pretty inspirational future that we imagine for ourselves is so different from the actual reality. Sniffing the Malbec in the glass placed next to our pasta starter, just a sip or two to accompany our friends during the meal, toasting George's promotion, a little bit more with the entree. What is that honey sweet beverage in the tiny glass served with dessert ?? N'ere mind..it's all good ...
Peace, Love & Happiness...{Skipper Chuck - Miami]

I stayed AF but I did visit the dispensary. Which is right next to the liquor store in my town. I got some gummies with CBN and terpenes in them and I finally slept past 4 am. The clock said 6:30 am but with Daylight Savings Time, that meant 5:30. 5:30 is better than 4 am in my head!

@lmlmrn Dont settle. My parents moved from a house to a condo this fall. (The whole process was kind of hell on earth but they are in their 70s.) They let condo after condo slip through their fingers due to not being quick enough with an offer. They finally got one that was beautiful, had a good inspection and a decent move in date. They aren’t happy with the layout now and have had to replace the furnace/AC and washer and dryer. I’m not sure they would be happy anywhere because their old house had plenty of space and a beautiful huge yard and lots of wildlife and trees. A condo community is not that. They couldn’t stay in the old house, it was too much for them but they regret the one they are in now.
You don’t seem like a person that would settle but if there is something you don’t like, walk away or be prepared to fix it. Or live with it. Just my 2 cents.6 -
Hello My "LA" friends! Happy March! I am SO ready for spring! My goal is 16 AF days. I usually post the next morning.
3/7: AF
3/8: Drinks (4)
3/9: Drinks (3)
3/10: Drinks (4)
3/11: AF - Well, I had some but not a lot of discipline while our friends were here, and now my weight is up several pounds. It was a great visit; however, I had three or four A beverages every day while they were here and we dined out a lot. On the back-on-track side of things, I was AF last night, got in a 30-minute Peloton spin AND I finally made it to Total Wine where bought a variety of NA beers. Last night's choice was Brewdog Hazy AF. It was really good!

@joans1976 I'm so glad you have a break this weekend.
@mfowler883 So sorry about Bentley. Thanks for letting us know.5 -
Sorry to hear about Bentley- @mfowler883
@joans1976 I have been reading all about your treatments- I am so amazed by your strength and positivity. Happy you slept better with the help of your gummies.
I will go back to work this week. I am going to take my time, sit in my chair, and not push too hard. I have to focus on healing this broken leg. I did enjoy the week lying on the couch watching movies I have always wanted to watch like Pride and Prejudice. I watched that twice!
I drank every day but did not overdo it. My husband has had to be the drinkmaker. We had some gin and tonics and he's a normal drinker and uses a measuring shot to add gin. I am not made that way, I pour and eyeball it, then add a little more.... always overdoing it.
Also, since I can't make it to the fridge for wine with crutches that has curtailed lots of calories.

Sunday - 3/12
I am reading a lot of honestly in the posts this morning. Maybe we’ve overdone it for one reason or other, but I also am learning that we can get back on track with each new day to meet our personal goals for March.
Each of you is a big part of helping me reach my goals for LESS. Thank you! I was a daily drinker for the past 20+ years until February 1 and frankly it was just getting old. My anxiety fueled my drinking wine at night then drinking fueled my anxiety in the day. I had been wanting to find a way to stop that negative cycle in my life and also lose 10 lbs. Then, I found this wonderful supportive group of people on MFP!
