Grandmallie: Great going on booking the cruise. In the 80's I went on a cruise alone and met other people on the cruise and we formed a goup! We even met in Boston one night to share memories of the cruise!
Well my son and DIL asked me to walk on the Atlanta Beltline, which I believe is old railroad tracks that have been picked up and the area paved for walking. It was pretty crowded with people in their 20's and really was a wonderful atmosphere. However I am in my 60's and out of shape and it was in the low 80's. I made it 0.9 miles out and 0.9 miles back, but I was overheated and could not have gone further because I was so hot. We did have a wonderful lunch together. And they showed me Ponce City Market which is a market area with stores. But I was too overheated to walk around!
So I know I must get in shape. I am doing step videos this morning, but I am also sitting in my red recliner texting people. I must get serious about my conditioning. It really is a priority. I will do another Get Fit With Rick Step Video today and a Daily Burn work out. The Daily Burn work out's are fairly difficult. I must modify quite a bit.
I hope to catch up on reading the posts. I am interested in what you all are saying and doing!!!!
Best,

Welcome newbies and returnees! (((hugs))) to those who need them.
Very cool bed for Athena! I would have loved something like that when I was a kid.
I'm so happy for you, Katla. That's what I like to hear. Wishing you more good days.
Kim, I agree with calling the doctor to see if there's another medication that he can prescribe for you mom AND calling the pharmacutical board and reporting that pharmacist. There's no excuse for "being mean". They take an oath too. And they have no right to "hoard" medication just because "it might be needed for someone who lives closer"??? WTH is that all about? Thank goodness for that manager and the other pharmacist. I also agree with documenting every single penny you spend for care for your mother.
GOOD FOR YOU, Allie! Time for you to enjoy!
26. Choose too spend less times looking at screens today... OKAY! signing off. Have a great SONday!

Allie-Great idea to take the cruise!
Kim-So sorry you are going through this. Hugs.
I'm thinking of taking a travelanthropy trip in the summer. My step-sister does this every year in Central or South America. She's a dental hygienist. She is always asking for "help." I don't know what I would do there, but she said there are always tasks for non-medical people. I think I just have to pay for airfare. I don't know what is making me hesitate to confirm.
Machka-I love the dry stream. Wish I had it in me to do such a project.
I also love hearing about Egg and cat stories. I love cats, but I intend to not be home much, so having a pet isn't in the cards. We have allowed the neighbor's cat to adopt us a little and it's the best solution. He stays outside, we feed him treats and get to pet him and we don't have to do all the chores related to pets, and no hair or fleas in the house. It's like being an aunt! I love it.
Speaking of not being home, I bought tickets to see Reba McEntire. It's an overnight trip. I'm looking forward to it. I have always liked her even when I thought country music was generally in a down phase.
It's a nice day, finally! I suffered a migraine all day yesterday and didn't want to do anything. I don't even think I went outside.
What I would like today is for the mister to get started on one of his projects cluttering up the living room (build his new "greenhouse," in particular). He's taken over about 1/4 of the room stacking up unfinished projects. It's been getting bigger for over a year. It's starting to get on my nerves in a big way, especially when he complains about being bored. Grrrrrrr.
I hope anyone in the path of tornadoes and other bad weather stays safe.
Have a nice Sunday!

Try again.....
Lanette Enjoy your mower. I believe that battery units have a place, but not sure they will take the place of every gas unit in our lifetime. We do sell a lot though.
Gardening- I really need to get some flowers out this year. I miss them, but have lacked the energy the last few years to do them. I know, one step at a time. I am going to be helping a friend with her garden this year. She will do most of the work as she is home most of the day, but I really want to help. I do benefit from her large harvests. I have grown tomatoes in containers successfully, but have never tried anything else. Tried cucumbers, but they were unsuccessful.
Kim Hugs! I believe all the other ladies have given you plenty of suggestions to help. We are here for a sounding board as well as support. I am a caregiver in a sense to DH, but he is independent in most things. Some days and requests are challenging, but after almost 30 years, most days are good. It does get easier most of the time.
Ginny Take the time you need to heal. I too am thankful that all we had was some power outages due to the winds. It did make the last 2 hours of work interesting as the power kept going on and off. It was off at home when we left to come to Kentucky. The sun is beautiful today.
Lisa Hopefully the change in time for meds works for you! I have to watch when I take the heart med since it makes me dizzy for a short time.
HeatherUK I enjoy hearing about the different foods you eat. I will admit that I have to look most items up! I think I would need to just be served without knowing what some of them were to taste them. I am not afraid to try things just somewhat hesitant.
Allie Go for it!!!!
I need to get a couple of things done now. Oh, oh, about 5 months ago I had three items that I just couldn't find. It just didn't matter how hard I looked, I couldn't find them. Well, I finally found two of the items (don't remember now what they were, but know that I found them). I was still missing a belt that I use to wear all the time. I FOUND it! It was in a dresser drawer at the farm that I didn't realize I hadn't checked. Duh! Found it when cleaning things out to put in the dressers from my aunt. Also found another pair of jeans. I did just buy 3 new pairs of jeans from Levi. They all fit, so will be buying more. I hadn't bought any in over 6 years and wear them daily for work. Now I am on the hunt for a few new tops for spring and fall.
Love!
Hugs!
Cheers!

Kim, {{{HUGS}}} you truly did have an awful experience and I echo what others have said, definitely about billing your mom for your time etc. Also, remember, there is a light at the end of the tunnel! I believe you said 14 weeks, which I'm sure sounds like forever right now, but the time will pass and hopefully your mom will be ready to go back to her home.
Lisa, I too hope the med reactions settle down. I also love hearing about Egg and her adventures!
Machka, the dry stream looks lovely! Rhody, the pancake cat, lol!
Rebecca, both grandkids have similar beds to Athena, their rooms are quite small so having the extra space under the bed really helps.
Can't remember anything else, sigh. Having a lazy weekend, but really need to go do something (like have breakfast!) then need/want to get some work done on some craft projects.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island3 -
Kim ... ditto on what the others have said about billing. If you get flak, you might want to remind your mother that the option was 8-15,000 at a nursing facility, per month, at the cost of losing her investments. That pharmacist should be fired!! Also, a cheap travel wheelchair like those you can get at a pharmacy might fit through your bathroom door. Incontinence bed pads are made in both disposable and washable. Order them from Walmart (along with a cheap chair) and have them delivered. I'm so sorry that you're going through this alone. Prayers headed your way.
Beth6 -
Kylia We have a battery powered mower, trimmer, and leaf blower and are looking for an electric car.
Allie, my dog walking friend and I have agreed that we will be writing the last check to spend the savings in our nest eggs and not leaving them for our children. Bravo to you for deciding to go on a trip that will be special for you. I learned twenty years ago that I won't share a room with anyone but my husband. It is more expensive to have a room alone and infinitely more comfortable. You go girl. Remember that you didn't force Tracy to have a child with no plan for child care. You are not obliged to rescue her.
Kim, I understand that your mother would completely empty her nest egg if she stayed in a place with the care she needs, but you needn't provide totally free care for her. Her care is costing you money out of pocket as well as lost income because of the time you must devote to her. She should be paying for all of that.
Lanette, Keep the stories and photos of the chicks coming. I love them. The only thing keeping me from getting chicks is that my neighborhood doesn't allow them. Thus I will content myself with enjoying yours.
My Sunday walking friend has gone to Texas so I have a surprise extra hour for myself. Jake is on the phone so the time is all mine. I will not waste it.

I am not sure how to react or feel. My DH admitted (while drunk) that his dementia is getting worse. He is starting to
‘See and hear’ things. And he has mentioned selling some of his guns so we can get new tires for the RV to start moving around. I usually don’t take what he says in that condition too seriously, but he has never admitted that stuff to me before, though I know it to be true. I’ve got a lot of thinking to do on this.

Am struggling with the new meds a bit, the nausea is rough enough to knock me off my pins. Any kind of movement makes me swimmy--even if I move my cursor too fast on the computer! I do have nausea meds that work well, but they also make me sleepy. So, I'm going to start taking the Rinvoq at night and try to get the gurky bit over while I'm asleep. It's possible that it's interacting with the morning heart meds, so I think I'll go ahead and skip it this morning and take it tonight and see what happens. After four weeks or so, they drop the dosage in half, which will help, I'm sure. *sigh* Back to symptom whack-a-mole.
Hope it's a serene Sunday for all...
Much love from Arkansas,
Lisa
I am so glad they are working for you. I know what you mean about feeling so great to wear special rings again.
It might turn a little color after a while but simple to change out and you get so much in the pack
They really are comfortable and having different sizes makes it easy to get just the right one.
Not much sleep last night. Had trouble getting to sleep then dh was up coughing and throwing up a few times during the night then his alarm went off at 7:30(I would love for it to go off at 8:30) so he can get his shower, take a LONG time in the bathroom then feed the cats so he can leave by 9. I really need to go to bed earlier so I can get more sleep
Our one cat is back on his CBD oil since Wed when he had another seizure. Hasn't had one in months and hadn't been on the oil for quite a while. He had another one this morning but not as bad. He will stay on it until he has no seizures for two -three weeks. He doesn't mind taking it. He was up running around, playing with the kitten less than half hour after the seizure.
Church this morning- leaving in less than half an hour.
Will come home and bake brownies for my son for his birthday today- hard to believe he is 25yrs old.
He said all he wants to do today is sleep so that is fine.
Dh and I will go shopping later. Want to pick up veggies and a pineapple for sweet and sour pork plus what ever else we need for the week. Mexican store has avocado 3/$1 again so will get 6 and tomatoes .79lb so will get a few. Not as good as home grown but wont' have those for months.
Will get my tomato seeds planted hopefully this next week. Ordered my green house yesterday.

That sounds wonderful. I would suggest you getting the insurance. We have, just in case.
Looking forward to hearing all about it.
Where are you going?
First thing I am going to do when either dh puts his mom in an assisted living place or she passes, is to book a cruise. We haven't gone anywhere, not even overnight in three years and now, with him being over there two times a day, we can't even go out of town for half a day without him worrying and rushing to be back by 4pm(just to have her says she isn't hungry)2 -

I know I'm a couple months behind you but hope "springs" eternal in this gardener's mind!
Rebecca - that bunk bed is awful cute! Looks like Athena approves. When is her baby brother/sister due?
Kim - agree 1000% with what Lisa suggested. Big (((HUGS))).
Rosemarie - how was the drive to Atlanta? Hope you had a good time and didn't get too worn out. I joke that I used to drive the freeway smoking a cigarette, drinking coffee and reading a book at 70 mph. Those days are long gone. I don't like getting on I-5 (the main freeway that runs from California through Oregon and Washington up to Canada!) to drive 8 miles to Walmart. I'm a great driver but everyone else is nuts.
Lisa - wishing you the very best with that new medication and crossing fingers the side effects diminish quickly. I love hearing about Egg - what entertainment, lol.
Here's your chick pic for the day. Fairy, dark with white tummy. If you look closely you can see little feathers going down the outside of her legs, Copper Maran trait. Gladys is the yellow spotted girl at the feeder, as usual. Fast growing Rainbow Dixie chick, lol. Now 4 days old and wing feathers emerging.
Today the paper towels come out I think and pine shavings will go in for bedding. Schnauzer Rosie is curious and watches them through the tote. I'm glad it's relatively clear so she gets used to them early.
My goal is to get pictures of them once a week to document how their feather color changes as they grow.
Eggplant - I have an eggplant in the fridge I need to cook. I'm thinking of doing some kind of eggplant parmesan type thing by slicing it, salting it to draw the water out for half an hour, then rinsing the slices and patting them dry, then browning in a little olive oil, putting into baking dish and slathering them with a little pesto and topping with shredded italian cheese I found buried in my freezer.
Make it a wonderful day!

I always pay the single supplement when travelling. I recall a trip to Portugal (escorted tour) when two single ladies made the choice not to pay the supplement and were paired together. One lady was from Canada and the other from South Africa. Both around the same age and very nice/pleasant to talk to. They did not get along! As the tour progressed they spent more and more time complaining to the rest of us about each other. It got to the point that the tour director took each one aside for a 'talk'. Not sure what he said but it did stop all the negative chatter and they pretty much kept to themselves. In the end these 2 ladies ruined their trip. I happily pay the supplement and just consider it part of my trip.
I do take insurance but I think that is just a personal preference. Medical coverage doesn't cost that much extra but cancellation insurance is pricey (at least at my age). I did take it for my Ireland trip but might reconsider for future travel. Medical for me is a must as I don't want to end up being a burden for my husband or put us in a position where we have to sell assets in order to cover hospital bills.

Rita ... yours is a difficult situation for so many reasons, but I'm especially concerned about "seeing and hearing things" and owning guns. (For the record, my husband owns guns and we've talked about this.) We had a family member with dementia ... nicest man on the planet ... who, in a confused moment, threatened his wife with one of his guns. It was at that time that the family moved him into a special facility. If nothing else, let your husband start selling off his guns. Hugs.

Annie! - Stop! Close the Amazon page... slowllly back away, and go do something to distract yourself. Retail therapy can get really expensive... I restrict myself by putting the things I want in the cart. If I still want them two days later, I can order them, but by then I usually don't want them anymore, and can't remember why I thought I did. I shop like that offline as well. Invariably, I end up handing the cashier something I decided not to buy.
Rita - What Beth said... My biggest fear was that my daughter's soon-to-be-ex-husband was coming to get his stuff (including guns) when they broke up. He doesn't have dementia, but he is a bully and he was incredibly angry. Adding guns to that already explosive equation made me extremely nervous. By letting your husband sell his guns for whatever reason, it just removes some possible scenarios that no one wants to see.
Heather - I love the fact that Johnny is learning new things about himself, and that you are as well. I love his drawings, your pots, your art, all of it. Keep it coming!
Lanette - Love watching the chicks growing! Learning from you, deciding whether I want to do the same.
I just realized, Machka, that if we're moving into spring, you're moving into fall and then the cold dark months. I hope there's plenty of sun for you this winter. It does not seem possible that Rowan's accident was five years ago. Such a hard road you've trod. I'm always happy to see your pictures and your photographs. Your strength amazes me.
Got the clematis in the ground, and it's a perennial. I don't plant any annuals anymore. I love the winter change in the perennials, that they die back and come back to life again. Don't know why that makes me so happy.
Beautiful sunny day here - and a nice dry week to come before the rains come again. The warm, dry days are going to push everything to start growing like crazy. One of my favorite times of year.

5. Bring to mind people you care about and send love to them. We chatted with our girls about other family members, and raised a glass to them.
6. Have a ‘no plans’ day and notice how that feels. I will do this tomorrow (7th)
7. Take three calm breaths at regular intervals during your day.Resisting the temptation to plan my day. Serendipity reigns today.
8. Eat mindfully. Appreciate the taste, texture and email of your food. ✔️
9. Take a full breath in and out before you reply to others. I’m a great advocate of deep breathing, and find this works well.
10. Get outside and notice how the weather feels on your face.I wasn’t looking forward to going outside this morning as we had snow overnight and it seemed very cold. However, the sun shone in a clear blue sky, and the wind had dropped right down again, and I spent time with my eyes closed feeling the heat on my face before I went into the centre for Latin Study.
11. Stay fully present while drinking your cup of tea or coffee. Always! Gives me calm thinking time.
12. Listen deeply to someone and really hear what they are saying. When I tried to do this with DH this morning, he got distracted by a discussion on What the Papers Say on TV. 😝 However, we often have in-depth discussions, usually over lunc and dinner.
13. Pause to watch the sky or clouds for a few minutes today. The sun was valiantly trying to break through rain clouds just after sunrise, but the forecast is for heavy showers, but I’m watching the blue patches in hope that it clears up.
14. Find ways to enjoy any chores or tasks that you do.Doing the task isn’t the problem 😝 It’s getting started that’s difficult. I sometimes put on my favourite music, or listen to a podcast.
15. Stop. Breathe. Notice. Repeat regularly. Having coffee after putting away the week’s groceries. There is pink blossom on my prunus purpurea, magnolia buds are beginning to colour up, tulips and daffodils in the containers outside the window are beginning to bloom. There are lots of little birds flitting about in the trees. Spring is doing its best to banish the winter cold. This is a regular joy in my life.
16. Get really absorbed with an interesting or creative activity. I am preparing some paintings for a display of my Monday Painters work
17. Look around and spot three thing you find unusual or pleasant.Today it is more like autumn tha spring. There is a thick sea mist. My usual view of countryside is reduced to about 500 yards. Everything looks damp and grey.
18. If you find yourself rushing, make an effort to slow down. Took things slow and easy today. Planning to do the same tomorrow as it’s Mother’s Day in UK.
19. Appreciate nature around you wherever you are. My writing desk has a lovely view of the countryside beyond houses. And there are lots of bird life flying about amongst the trees in the neighbouring gardens..
20. Focus on what makes you and others happy today. My writing, and my art always makes me happy, and sharing it with like-minded people makes them happy. That means that today was filled with focusing on what makes myself and others happy.
21. Listen to a piece of music without doing anything else. ’Love Affair’ - Rainbow Valley. (NOW! That’s 60’s)Hubby came home and disturbed me 😝
22. Notice something that is going well, even if today feels difficult. My prep for the art display next week is going well. Most members have already given pieces for display.
23. Tune into your feelings, without judging or trying to change them. I am fully in the moment, relaxing, and contemplating what I will have for breakfast, and how I will spend my day. DH has gone out for the day so I am free as a bird so to speak. (My natural bent is positivity. I choose to be happy in the moment. I acknowledge all my feelings, but on the rare occasions when I feel down, I choose to count my blessings, put in some music and dance.)
24. Appreciate your hands and all the things they enable you to do. I am grateful for all the pleasure I get from working with my hands at my art and crafts.
25 Focus your attention on the good things you take for granted. Positive thoughts are so uplifting27. Cultivate a feeling of loving-kindness towards others today.
28. Notice when you are tired and take a break as soon as possible.
29. Choose a different route today and see
what you notice.
30. Mentally scan your body and notice what you are feeling.
31. Discover the joy in the simple things of life.2 -
Lisa I got away from online shopping only to find myself in the kitchen. It was a day of cravings. I had a toasted peanut butter sandwich that totally blew my calorie count. And today is rest day so I can't work it off today. But tomorrow is a fresh start. I will have to work hard if I want to lose any this week.
Today I ate 1495 calories. Ouch! I have an overage of 395. And I decided that in honor of the sciatica, I would have a total rest day, no biking. So tomorrow had better be low calorie!

Annie - Something that always helped me when I was veering off the beaten path diet-wise, was to make half of something like a toasted pb sandwich. I would even tell myself I could make another half if I was still hungry for it, as long as I waited five minutes after eating the first one. My relationship with serving size was just broken after being 200-300 pounds for so long.

Hi Gals,
Thanks for the feed back…. I had 4 hours away today and it really helped! I am starting to keep a itemized list for finances. And am regularly using her credit card on a “just for her” item.
The challenge is with the bathroom door is a 20 inch clearance, and all of the shower or transport chairs I have found have 21 + inch clearance; and even if I found one at 20 that means I have to line up exactly right and once I was into the bathroom I am not sure I could turn around…. This is a VERY little house so both bathrooms require passing by the toilet then shutting the door then going back to sit on the toilet. So we are keeping with the transfer system for now.
With any luck the OT, and PT will start this week so I will have a little support. I did call my niece who is a PT in Boston and got a few pointers from her that should help me, help mom with less wear and tear on my body.
Allie – PLEASE get trip insurance! It is worth the peace of mind – but read the fine print and be sure it is covering things you want covered. Like a trip home for medical support, late cancellation for medical issues…. If something happened you don’t want to not be able to have another last fling.
