May Goal: 115 Miles
5/1: 5.26 miles
5/2: 6.22 miles
5/3: 5.26 miles
5/4: 5.26 miles
22/115 miles completed for May
I ran 5.25 miles again this morning. It was warm and humid again. It was an uneventful run. We had our annual *kitten* tournament at work today. Last year my team got 2nd place and we each won $100. This year didn't go as well for me. But it was fun. I was glad that I got a good run in this morning since there was also a cookout and alcohol served. When I got home my husband and I took the dogs for a short walk. May is another streak month for Run the Year. I will definitely aim to get at least one mile per day, but I may count walking or running this time.

On this 16 week Garmin Coach 5k training plan, today was probably the longest 'run.' By that I mean this plan is a walk/run. The walks have been getting shorter and the runs longer.
Today was 2x 4 min walk, 16 min run.
I am feeling confident that I'll run the whole 5k. That would be a nice goal to reach for.
May Running Goal: 13 runs, 44 miles- May 2 - 3.34 miles
- May 4 - 2.74 miles

Humidity is such a zapper @martaindale and I had to drop out just playing golf in 95% humidity after 9 holes. Great run!
Welcome back @noblsheep
Loving the 5k plan @chris_in_cal and hope to reach your distance in the next couple of months.
I'll only update my mileage at the end of the month. Tried two exercise sessions yesterday with a brisk walk 5k at lunch and C25K at 5pm. My HR zones tell me this is a bad idea at this stage. Lesson learnt!
Have a great weekend everyone! Coronation time in the UK so another 3 day weekend.8 -

But here humidity is an abstraction. We ride in the teens and twenties.
When I have visited low humidity places, I am shocked at how pleasant even temps into the 80’s feel. When you throw the mega humidity in there, anything over the high 60’s is a sweat fest. And it’s still early in the hot season so there is some acclimation happening. During the summer, my average morning is 73F, 97% humidity, feels like 76-77F. Before the sun comes up. And, to be fair, I really don’t handle the heat well.chris_in_cal wrote: »I know California is a mean horrible dirty nasty crowded place that everyone is leaving…
Yep, and they are moving to TX to experience all this fun weather. CA license plates everywhere!!
@noblsheep Welcome back!!

May total: 19/115 miles
5/2: 9 miles
5/3: 3 miles
5/5: 7 miles
And, it’s summer. I had my first frozen hydration pack run this morning. I’m so glad I remembered to freeze it last night. It was hot and hard but otherwise a pretty unremarkable run.
I am volunteering at an aid station for a local triathlon tomorrow. It starts early but I feel for the athletes. The weather is looking rough for racing. But, I guess since they start in water maybe they would rather it be slightly warm than slightly cool? IDK. Should be fun. I love a race day environment.6 -
On the topic of heat, the first race in the world skyrunning series was held here last weekend. It started at 3 pm and there were some serious issues, including runners collapsing from heat exhaustion. Needless to say, there is a lot of noise and debate going on about whether the organisers should have changed anything, whether the runners who suffered were irresponsible for not looking after themselves, etc. etc. Opened up a huge can of worms.
And on the topic of races and insanity, I just signed up for a Backyard ultra in February. My crazy friend says no she isn't crazy enough to run it with me, but she'll crew for me and make sure there's Spanish omelette waiting for me after every loop.
So whether or not we get lucky in the November ultra lottery (the draw is next week, so excitified!) I have 9 months to prepare for that. And to work out how to break the news to my husband. I'll have to tell him, right? lol

Just a quick 2 miles this morning for the streak. It was already warm at 72°F. The moon looked really pretty though. I'm not sure if I will run tomorrow or walk for the streak. I would rather run, but we'll see what all is going on and if I can get out before it gets too hot. It already hit 98° F yesterday and today.
I didn't realize that the word c*rnhole would get censored by mfp. There is a game that is similar to horseshoes except you throw bags of corn at a wooden platform with a hole in it. 🙄

It was (is) 96F and 60% humidity today. Did 6 TM miles after work. Have to get up early tomorrow to beat the heat. This is the BEGINNING of May y'all!!! Lord help us!

True! I think that is why nighttime marathons in Las Vegas and Dubai etc. work. It may be 90, but if the sun isn't beating down, and there is no humidity. It works. The human body is weird and remarkable.

11 tough miles this morning. Was feeling surprisingly good at the beginning (when it a 'cool' 73F and 87% humidity) but by mile 7 or so I just felt zapped. Had to walk a couple times and by the end I was just happy it was over. By the time I was done it was 81F and 82% humidity 🥵

I had a good time volunteering at the triathlon this morning. It was a sprint triathlon so the whole thing was wrapped up by 10:15. It was fun cheering on the participants, and they were all so friendly. I wouldn’t have wanted to race in those conditions but it was pleasant enough just hanging out.6

I ran 1.5 miles this morning. It was already a warm 74°F at 8:30 am. I know it will be hot for my long run tomorrow. I will need to get up early, but it is so much harder to get up early on the weekends. Today I ran the same route my daughter and I walked last Saturday, but I did not see the foxes today.

Nice running @kgirlhart . Glad you enjoyed your work tournament. That is weird that it would censor that word. I was straining my brain trying to figure out what type of tournament it could have possibly been. It's hard to imagine that it is already that hot.
You are doing great with your C25K plan @chris_in_cal !
Learning lessons is great @TheMrWobbly ! You'll get back to where you want to be in no time.
You are doing great @martaindale . I hope all went well with the triathlon today. Glad everyone enjoyed the triathlon, including you!
@eleanorhawkins You are brave signing up for an ultra. I'm glad your friend is going to stick with you as support and good luck with the lottery. This may be a stupid question, but what is a backyard ultra. I envision @AlphaHowls doing crazy laps in her back yard.
That treadmill may be getting a lot of work this summer @Scott6255 .
You're doing great @Zaxa2021 !

I didn't post yesterday. I worked all day, ran some errands, so didn't get home until 7. I did a 2 mile walk on the treadmill while watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. I increased the incline enough to keep my HR above 100 bpm.
Today, I had planned to get up and do a decent run on the treadmill before going to a lunch time party with the tennis league ladies. However, mom hasn't felt the best this week and came down with pink eye in both eyes Thursday. She didn't want to go to the doctor, but had to use a warm rag to get her eyes open good this morning, so she agreed to let me call the local urgent care for her. They didn't open until 10, so I went down for a quick workout so I could call them when they opened.
I did a mile walked and a 15 min run. I ran at 5.0 mph for 6 min, walked one minute, and then ran the rest at 5.5-5.0 mph for 1 min each and then finished at 4.5 mph. That resulted in 1.25 miles in 15:04 min. So, 5.0 mph and it didn't really feel that hard. Fingers crossed I am getting some better. My avg HR was 122 with a max of 143 bpm.
Of course, the doctor's wanted to see mom, so there went my party. But, that's okay. I'd gladly give that up to help her feel better. She has bacterial pink eye, both eyes, and they heard some wheezing, so said it is probably the beginnings of bronchitis. They did test her for CoVID since pink eye is now a symptom. Seems like everything is. Fortunately, that came back negative. They prescribed antibiotics and and antibiotic eye ointment, which we picked up before coming home.
I had grand ideas about running more, or mowing part of my yard this afternoon, but decided to be lazy instead. The main reason was that I didn't want to take another shower. Silly reason, but that is honestly why I wasn't productive today.

😄 I have this same debate with myself sometimes. Usually it's more around washing my hair. I have too much hair to just be washing it all the time!
Sorry to hear your mom has pink eye. That is so uncomfortable. Hopefully y'all got the antibiotics on board early enough to keep the bronchitis from getting too bad. That combo sounds miserable.2 -
I hope you Mum is better very quickly @quilteryoyo and they have another tennis party soon!
Everyone seems to be running in silly temperatures and we barely break 15° C (59° F). Great runs @Scott6255 and @kgirlhart
I am on target, lost another kilo this week so under 20 stone - lots to go! Had an afternoon tea today whilst the fam watched the coronation. Lots of temptation, a bit silly as I made it!
Great 4 miles walk with the dog today. Heart rates zones looking very good.8 -

May 1 - 2 miles
May 3 - 2 miles
May 6 - 3 miles
