It felt slightly cooler this morning, but had a hard time getting going. By the end of mile 7 I felt a little better and finished the last mile at a good pace.

Here is what the plan looks like on the app.

Today was one of those days actually. After a weekend of too much bbqing and too little sleep/running, I felt pretty lethargic but I know it is important for my marathon training and for my own mental health to get longer runs in when work/life allows, and I managed 14.4km that weren’t of the sort @Teresa502 mentioned - I definitely did not feel like I could run forever! But I got it done, and the weather was perfect. I did spend a considerable amount of effort dodging slugs and some dead mice (gross). I guess I could look up more while running and not focus so much on the ground, but the thought of running right over the slugs and whatever else is laying around on the path always grosses me out.
This is so freaky. I saw a dead mouse during my run yesterday also. I don't recall ever seeing one before. What is up with that?
That is really weird. I saw a dead mouse one day last week too and I've never seen a dead mouse on a run before.2 -

79.48/115 miles completed for May
I ran 5.5 miles today. It was a good, but uneventful run. I now have 499.48 miles on my shoes. I definitely need to look for some new shoes. I have been wearing Saucony Rides for several years. I do like them, but I sometimes think it would be nice to try something different. The nearest running store is an hour away though and I usually just end up ordering shoes online and I hate to buy something new without trying them on first.

@Teresa502 @kgirlhart Last summer I would see up to 5 dead mice a run in the forest when it was hot, but it’s not really what I would consider hot yet (I’m still wearing long sleeves most days). Today I saw a live one and hardly any slugs. It was a definite improvement:).
@Scott6255 I actually completed my run today listening to the Shinedown Radio playlist. It was a bit more rock than my standard pop/alternative stuff, but I actually really enjoyed switching things up . I will probably listen to it again tomorrow. It was a nice 10.2k.
So far for May 117.1/200k.

Roll on two weeks @martaindale
No stopping you now @chris_in_cal
I have no idea what the mileage is on my shoes so I guess I need to move to a new pair fairly soon.
Today's C25K seemed tougher for both me and the friend I run with. No idea why. We will still move on to week 5 on Thursday.
I have started yoga - nobody said how hard even the basic stuff is! Still ending the day with a smile

@quilteryoyo I got my car! I love it so much, and certainly am very appreciative after over a month without. I'm a little protective about it right now (understandably) but I did have to take Stella for a ride to daycare this morning. I firmly demanded she sit only in her dogbed on the seat and not run around the car like the tasmanian devil that she normally is, and surprisingly she cooperated.
I went to yoga for the first time post-surgery today. It was good, but oh boy everything was tight! I really should have been working on this the last few weeks at home. Tomorrow I'm going to have a private strength training session to help me get back into things before I start back in my regular group strength classes.
I haven't been running much but had a nice run on Sunday with friends in near-perfect weather. I'll take it!9 -
Sometimes the ticker seems to randomly show an old number. Weird.
@Teresa502 @kgirlhart @Laurz9191 : When I run trails I often see critters (mice and chipmunks) on the path, mostly alive. No snakes, no slugs. I'm not sure how I'd feel about either of those. The worst is when I accidentally run through a spider web. Ugh. Generally, though, I like the wildlife scurrying away and the birds chiming in as I run past. I find trails so much more soul-satisfying than sidewalks.

You're doing great @yirara .
Great running @kgirlhart . Glad you had a great Mother's Day. I do the same things when it comes to buying new shoes.
Great running @martaindale . I'm glad you didn't have any flooding and fingers crossed that next year school will be better for everyone.
Great running @Teresa502 ! I love the cow pictures and your comments about them. I'm glad the owner was able to get the calf back in the field. I'm glad you felt like you could go forever. I'm sure part of that feeling is psychological...most anything involving running is.
@spl8 Slow and steady is the way to go!
A 10K in high humidity is tough @Scott6255 ! Glad today's last mile was good. Too bad it took 7 miles to warm up.
You're doing great @Laurz9191 . I wouldn't want to step on slugs or dead mice either!
Great goal @chris_in_cal ! Look forward to hearing how you do with the plan.
It is kinda freaky about all the dead mice you guys are seeing.
@TheMrWobbly Glad you are ending your day with a smile. If week 5 seems too hard for you, repeat week 4 and then go on. Unless you have a race planned on the day you finish, that isn't going to hurt a thing and may prevent an injury.
I'm glad you love your car @katharmonic ! It's funny what our dogs will do when we decide to be firm with them. BTW, it's the same with daycare kids. Sounds like your recovery is going great! Makes me happy.

Goal for May: 80 miles combined of running and fast walking (greater than 3.5 mph)
May 1: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 3.00 miles
May 2: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 2.25 miles - intervals
May 3: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 2.50 miles
May 4: Walk 2.00 miles (actually a wun), also mowed mom's lawn
May 5: Walk 2.00 miles
May 6: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 1.25 miles
May 7: Walk 2.25 miles
May 8: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 1.25 miles - driveway laps
May 9: Walk 2.00 miles (actually a wun) - driveway laps, mowed, and TWO FULL YEARS OF STREAKING
May 10: Walk 2.00 miles after church
May 11: Walk 1.25 miles, Ran 1.00 mile (quarter mile intervals) - plus over 2 hours of doubles tennis
May 12: Walk 1.25 miles, Ran 1.00 mile (quarter mile intervals)
May 13: Walk 2.00 miles (actually a wun), almost 2.25 hours of yardwork
May 14: Walk 2.00 miles
May 15: Walk 1.25 miles, Ran 3.00 miles - driveway laps and some on the rural road
May 16: Walk 1.50 miles, Ran 2.75 miles - 6 x quarter mile intervals
I haven't posted in 3 or 4 days...partly because of the internet and partly because of time constraints. I did call Hughes Net yesterday and they are coming Saturday to see if their system will work with my trees. If it will, they will install it and I might actually have reliable, fast internet. I have my fingers crossed, but I am NOT holding my breath.
Today, after mom and I did some shopping, I did my planned quarter mile interval run on the treadmill. I had hoped to be able to run just a bit faster than the last time I did this run, so started with 6.2 mph....managed it, but too fast. Next was 6.1 mph...managed it, but again felt too fast to maintain. So, the other 4 I did at 6.0 mph. Still pretty fast for me, but a bit more manageable. You wouldn't think that a tenth of a mile per hour would feel that much faster, but it did. My recovery was walking at 3.8 mph. I counted the last walking interval as part of my cool down walk, which turned into a full mile so I could see the end of the game show I was watching before I stopped. So, all together, I walked 1.50 miles and ran (intervals) 2.75 miles. For the run, my avg HR was 138 with a max HR of 164 bpm.

I’m glad you’re excited about your new 10k plan @chris_in_cal. The next race will be here before you know it!An aside: Any CrossFit people (or former CrossFit people) in this group? If so, what are pros and cons? Is it a good adjunct to running? I'm looking for motivation for my RT, and a couple of people have recommended it.
Are you looking for strength training? I’ve never done CrossFit but my understanding of it doesn’t seem like it necessarily provides the type of strength training that specifically benefit runners. If you are just looking to build general strength and fitness, it would probably do that just fine. If you want more targeted strength training, it might be worth a visit to a trainer to get a program designed for you. If you like classes, I have started doing lagree Pilates (with the machine) and a lot of the exercise we do are similar to ones my PT gave me for strength building during my injury. I can tell my core is stronger. When I get tired my form doesn’t fall apart. And it’s low impact, which is a plus with all the pounding from running. Can’t recommend it enough.7 -

Still humid but a few degrees cooler today. We have more rain in the forecast this week. Hopefully it won’t bring too much lightning so I can get outside.
I’m getting a massage tomorrow and I can’t wait! My shoulder is tight from using a computer all day.7 -
A shake out run. I'm not injured or sore, so onward and upward on my 2023 return to running.

Great running @martaindale . I hope you can enjoy come rainy runs without lightening.
Nice @chris_in_cal . I can feel how excited you are about returning to running.1 -
@chris_in_cal you inspired me to give Garmin Coach a try. The longest distance they had was Half Marathon, so chose that. Did 6 miles this morning, then did the first workout. Was a baseline run, so only 2 min WU/CD, with 5 min Hard effort. During the 6 mile warmup run I felt pain in both shins / calf (as I have for the last few weeks). But during the baseline 5 min hard effort, no pain at all. Weird.

I went on another for me fairly long run today and completed 14km. It was quite cold out but I wore shorts anyway, because I bought a new pair I wanted to try and I wanted to inspire the weather to warm up (I know, be careful what you wish for). The landscape is just beautiful this time of year, trees and flowers blossoming everywhere, colorful fields with wheat and canola. And our little river flowing. Next time I will take some pictures.
This route goes right by a dog training school about half way through, and this morning I got to run past all these cute little puppies waiting for their lesson.
My hamstrings are still quite sensitive. I haven’t done any strides or fast training since my races. I am hoping a few rest days and my continued strength training will help. If they don’t feel better in a week or two I am going to do more cross training and see if that helps.
So far for May 131.1/200km6 -
@Scott6255 I love your 6 mile warm up. It is weird that the pain went away with hard effort. I wonder if your gait changed. I sometimes have a pain in my knee when walking, but as soon as I start to run, it goes away. Just plain weird.
Nice running @Laurz9191 . That sounds like a beautiful place to run. I hope your hamstrings get better with some easy running.1 -

May 17: Walk 1.00 miles, Ran 3.00 miles - treadmill recovery run
I did a 3 mile recovery run on the treadmill this morning. I was supposed to play tennis, but we cancelled due to the courts being wet from storms last night. I tried to keep my HR between 120 and 130 bpm, but gave up after 2 miles because it just wasn't going to happen. Avg HR was 127 with a max HR of 142 bpm. Still not too bad. I ran the first 5 min at 5.0 mph, then 4, 3, and 2 min at 4.5 mph with one min at 3.8 mph to get the HR down. I tried 4.3 mph, thinking I would be able to run longer before my HR got to 130, but it was only 2 min too, so just started run/walk for 2/1 min at 4.5/3.8 mph. Worked okay and the plan says to not worry about pace, just cover the distance. It felt really easy, as it was supposed to be.

Ran a completely different route this morning in a different city but I had the exact same mileage as yesterday. Strange. But, not as strange as the dead mice epidemic….

Odd day today: Was totally lazy all day, then went to physio much later than usual, and decided not to run anymore. And suddenly, at 21:00 I went out to run. For some reason I wanted to go fast, but I can't go fast yet. So I did kind of intervals: somewhat too fast as long as I could (very short) and walking. Well, pace still looks good And then I came home and realized shops are closed tomorrow and I still needed things. Thus had to run out again to the supermarket around the corner. Phew.6 -
Nice running @Teresa502 . Your comment about the mice tickled me.
@yirara If I am reading your post correctly, it looks like todays walk/run was an overall faster pace than you've had all month. That's exciting. I hope you got all the things you need before the supermarket closed.

It was a beautiful morning. I ran 6 miles and it was one of those runs where I felt like I could run all day. Unfortunately I had to go to work. It was dark when I started out. There were stars still visible. It started getting lighter as I ran. I could see the moon occulting Jupiter and it looked so cool. I had to take a picture. I also stopped to take pictures of the sunrise and some wildflowers.
@katharmonic I'm so glad you finally got your car!
@quilteryoyo I hope you are able to get the internet.

Yes, it was faster Just beating my previous slow pace with a slightly faster pace convinced me to do a few more intervals instead of stopping at 3km And yes, I got what I needed from the super: Tea, more tea, and chocolate. With wet and sweaty hair. Phew.4 -
Was feeling stuck in fight-or-flight mode (it's an aggravating symptom of long covid), and went for a walk today, in the rain but wearing running clothes, and pretended I was actually running, haha. Today I walked 2 km, did some quilting, went on a coffee/tea date with my husband and spent most of the day in bed (my usual location these days). Hopefully it wasn't too much, but we'll see how I feel over the next few days.
The yellow rapeseed fields are peaking right now! Pictures from past few days:
My latest experiment (other than some supplements I added to the list):
Looks crazy I know. Pressotherapy - foot/calf/thigh cuffs inflate at various intervals and are supposed to promote lymphatic drainage. Felt like a massage. I imagine they'd be interesting for post-marathon legs as well... also I only had it set at 50% intensity, but when I went up to 75% towards the end, I decided I wasn't ready for that yet LOL. There's a heating function as well. So I don't know if it will help me, but it feels nice and I've already paid for it, so I'm on board with using it regularly.
I usually stop by and skim all of your posts at once. I have seen dead mice (and a huge rat! and a guinea-pig-sized european hamster that I stopped to look at more closely) while running, but the neighborhood cats around here don't let things like that lay there long.
I love hearing about your races and training plans and even the crazy junk food some of you are eating 😆
Keep up the great running!6 -
@polska_girl Your photos look like what the landscape looks like here now. I'm not sure whether I'm allergic to them, but they can go. Just in case. My pollen allergy has never lasted this long (nah, it's not rapeseed but an early tree pollen, which due to the long winter still sticks around).
Btw, do you also have such crazy weather? Tonight it will be close to freezing, and during the weekend close to 30C. That's just crazy! I know El Nino, which is currently starting to form (probably) in the southern Pacific has very little influence here, but when it forms Western/Central Europe does get this crazy weather in spring time.3 -
Cool, yesterday was my 'baseline' run, I think all the plans start that way to initiate how they create for future workouts. Was a baseline run, so only 2 min WU/CD, with 5 min Hard effort
Like you, two minutes isn't enough of a warm up for me, so I walked about twenty minutes, then started their baseline workout.
I hope it works out for you. Coaching and structure are always good, just most of us rebel and don't like it.

I had my first big running injury in March 2020, a right tibia stress fracture. As I've written before my recovery plan was to sit down for three years and eat. Which I faithfully followed.
Tonight, and occasionally I'll feel a twinge in the area and it petrifies me. Anyone else dealing with Post Traumatic Running Injury Disorder
It's a sharp moment when it's either nothing and it will go away in five minutes....or not.

I really didn't feel like running yesterday evening but talked myself around to only doing 2 miles and then once I was out I kept going. I think its the weather that's bothering me. It feels warmer but there is a really sharp horrible wind which cuts into you.

Hi everyone!!! 😊
How's everyone doing??
Have missed posting in here and all the posts...
Been out exactly 4 weeks... Was gonna wait till Monday to get a run in (birthday - so if I did manage to injure myself, my wife would be obliged to massage if in pain! Lol )... But... Weather is beautiful here in London today; Suns out but not too hot... I felt okay (ish), so though I'd jog to the gym!
Got in all of 2K... Yayyy! Still feel it there, but nothing excruciating and nothing that warranted me throwing in the towel!8
