@kgirlhart as to the Spotify playlist, my go-to is the pre-made Shinedown Radio playlist, or Soundgarden Mix. I haven't heard a bad song on there (well maybe have skipped one or two).
6 TM miles again for me today.

Enjoying the beautiful weather here on Long Island.
I got my old Garmin Forerunner 45 to work again (by getting a new charger cable), but after researching new watches, I'm now getting the urge to upgrade. But can't decide if it's worth the expense. I also need new running shoes. I think I'm going to get myself a mother's day present.
8 -
@scott6255 I will have to check those playlists out.
@spl8 I asked myself the same question before upgrading my watch. There was nothing “wrong” with the old one, but I really wanted more running features. I am very glad I upgraded and match does help keep me motivated. The one feature I have that I really don’t need is gps maps. Maybe one day I’ll decide to become a trail runner or run in really unfamiliar areas, but at the moment, I can’t really say I need that feature.
I’ve been thinking and planning a lot for my marathon in my head, and will try to up my mileage in the coming weeks/months, so I opted for a 10k today instead of a shorter run. My heart rate has been significantly higher than usual at the same pace. I initially thought it was because of my races, but now that I feel rested I’m thinking it’s probably because of the increased “heat” and humidity. It’s still not HOT here in comparison to what some of you have to run in (70F with 50% humidity), but a significant increase to what it was before. Do you guys also experience this issue when the temperatures go up? Do you adjust your pace accordingly?
So far for May 92.4/200km.6 -
May and June are the coldest months in coastal California. It's 58 in San Diego.
The Ocean fog burns off around noon, then around 4:00 p.m. it usually heats up to the 70s.
July-October is when we get our heat.4 -

It's been a busy and interesting week. I'll try to catch up with everyone. If I don't mention you, I have read, and liked or hugged your posts.
@chris_in_cal They told us about pink eye being a symptom of CoVID. They tested her and she was negative, so think it was just the run of the meal pink eye. I hope you don't have it. As for your upcoming race, I'd probably be there at least an hour early anyway. It must be a fairly small race. Good luck.
Sorry to hear your outdoor run was a struggle/painful @Scott6255 . Maybe it's good that the weather isn't nice there so the treadmill doesn't seem so bad.
Great running and beautiful sunrise on Wed @AlphaHowls !
@katharmonic I hope to read that you got your car. I'm sure your friends were glad to help you out.
Great running @spl8 . You deserve to buy yourself a Mother's Day gift! I'm beginning to need new shoes too.
Pretty place to run at sunrise @Teresa502 .
@Laurz9191 Heat and humidity definitely affects your running. I think most of us adjust our paces to compensate.
Nice @TheMrWobbly !

Goal for May: 80 miles combined of running and fast walking (greater than 3.5 mph)
May 1: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 3.00 miles
May 2: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 2.25 miles - intervals
May 3: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 2.50 miles
May 4: Walk 2.00 miles (actually a wun), also mowed mom's lawn
May 5: Walk 2.00 miles
May 6: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 1.25 miles
May 7: Walk 2.25 miles
May 8: Walk 1.00 mile, Run 1.25 miles - driveway laps
May 9: Walk 2.00 miles (actually a wun) - driveway laps, mowed, and TWO FULL YEARS OF STREAKING
May 10: Walk 2.00 miles after church
May 11: Walk 1.25 miles, Ran 1.00 mile (quarter mile intervals) - plus over 2 hours of doubles tennis
May 12: Walk 1.25 miles, Ran 1.00 mile (quarter mile intervals)
I was called in to work today, so worked 11:45 - 4:30. Work wasn't too bad - worst part was staying awake while the kids napped. I had hoped to mow the rest of my lawn, but it rained. I was tired, so just went down for a quick interval run on the treadmill - alternated quarter miles of walk/run at 3.8/4.5 mph. These feel like pretty easy runs, so my go to on days I want to do something, but not push it too much.
I'm going to have to pick it up if I make my goal for the month.

It was a nice 61F this morning but the humidity was 100%. Good chance of rain in the forecast for most of the day. Lesser chance this morning so I decided to get out early.
@chris_in_cal – Good luck with your race today! I hope you make your goal!
@Scott6255 – I think your ticker is broke. I’m pretty confident that you have run more than 27 miles this month…You probably did that in week one.
2 -
@Scott6255 You're doing great. Consistency is the key and, as your little ticker is reminding you, "slow" and steady wins the race.
Great running @Teresa502 ! I'm probably going to opt for the treadmill later.2 -
Nice running @Teresa502. Yeah you never know what you are going to get with these tickers lately; seems they are almost always wrong. It should have shown 78 miles as of yesterday. I got out late this morning. I wasn't even planning on running outside today because weatherman said rain all weekend. But woke up to blue skies, but hot and humid. Only managed 8 before I succumbed to the heat. So that brings me to 86 miles (no matter what that dumb ticker shows 😉)

San Diego Liberty Station 5K happened.
It was an even 58 degrees the whole time. Pretty nice.
I faithfully stuck to the 16 week Garmin Connect Coach training plan (except I had a small surgery/recovery around week 5). All of the plans' workouts were run/walk. For the race I wanted to not walk. I made that. I shuffled along the first two miles and for the last 1.1 mile I tried to pick it up a little. I ran the whole race.
The Garmin had a 5K countdown going, and at the finish line it was only at 4.8K, so I stepped away from the crowd and kept on running about two blocks until I got to 5K (That was hard emotionally.)
I am not confident I would have stuck to the plan, and run the race, without this thread. Thanks everyone.
May Running Goal: 13 runs, 44 miles- May 2 - 3.34 miles
- May 4 - 2.74 miles
- May 7 - 2.15 miles
- May 9 - 1.57 miles

Yep, absolutely. Heat and humidity have a big effect on my HR. I slow down to keep effort levels similar. On the average I'd say my summer easy pace is closer to 11:30/mile where winter is closer to 10ish.
@chris_in_cal Congrats on completing your 5k!! And I'm with you on short courses. I'd keep the watch going to finish off a new distance too!7 -

Long run this morning. It was a hot, humid slog for about 8 miles then the storm kicked up. Cool wind and fairly heavy rain for the last 2 miles felt amazing!! When I checked the weather this morning it didn't look like much of a chance of rain so it was a pleasant surprise.
No snakes on the spring creek trail today. Guess they didn't like the weather.
Also forgot to log yesterday's run. Pretty uneventful run on the neighborhood trail.7 -
Congrats on your 5K @chris_in_cal! You ran the whole thing and met your goal! Great accomplishment 👏👏4

I didn't post yesterday, but I did run 2 miles for my streak. It was 77° F and 87% humidity at 5:00 am. It was not very pleasant.
The forecast was calling for rain and thunderstorms this afternoon and tomorrow so I decided to do my long run today instead of tomorrow. I ran 10 miles this morning and so far no bad weather. I am still glad I ran today. We are having lunch with my MIL tomorrow so just running a mile or two will be easier than running 10 miles. Today's run was pretty good. It was more humid, but not as warm as yesterday so it felt more comfortable to me.
@Laurz9191 My pace is always slower in the summer.
@chris_in_cal Congratulations on hitting your goals on your 5K. I have done the same thing when a course is short.
6 -
Well done @chris_in_cal on the 5k, especially the extra yards to make sure you completed the full 5k. I am still doing Wk4 so I am aiming for July. Hoping it is not too hot.
6 -
You are doing great in the heat @Scott6255 ! I hope you and @martaindale and any other TX peeps are okay after the storms yesterday.
Congratulations @chris_in_cal ! You did great in meeting your goal. I would have gone the extra bit too, to make sure I had gone the distance.
Great running @martaindale !
Great running @kgirlhart ! Enjoy your lunch with your MIL.
@TheMrWobbly You are putting in a lot of miles for a C25K! You'll be ready for sure.3 -

total: 9.0/0km (9.0km ahead)
Been on a wee vacation, thus no running. And then the weather was truly *kitten*. Did things differently today: I just ran very slowly without walking, without looking at HR. Well, I managed to run 1km 3 times with short walks inbetween. I'll get back to running 5km or longer again. This isn't too bad.8 -

We haven't had the rain and storms that was predicted for today. But I am still glad I did my long run yesterday. I slept in today and then ran 2 miles for my streak. It was a nice run, but already warm. I would have needed to get out earlier for a long run.
We went to my Mother-in-law's to cookout and now we are just relaxing at home. My mom is at my sister's near Ft. Worth so I called her earlier. I have heard from my daughter in Austin and expect to hear from my son in Denton anytime now. So it has been a good day. I hope all of you Mom's are enjoying your day as well.

It’s been raining pretty much all weekend here but not so much that there is any flooding. Basically, good weather to hang out on the couch! All that rain meant a super humid damp morning run. I had to stick to the more open parts of my neighborhood to avoid sections on the trails through the woods that tend to end up with standing water. I did pretty good with timing the school traffic today. Missed it entirely on the way out and caught the very end of it on the way back. Only 2 weeks of school left. My kid is so ready. My husband and I are so ready. I’ve never been more ready for a school year to end. Fingers crossed next year in a new school is better than this year!9 -

It was mostly cloudy on my run this morning and the temp was a nice 61F. One of those mornings where I felt good and thought I could just keep running. I know we’ve mentioned these feelings before which made me wonder how much of it is psychological. Did I feel like I could just keep going because I knew that I only had time for 5-6 miles?Just me and the cows out this morning.
Breakfast time!
I imagine her saying "It's seriously too early for pictures sweetie.."
On down the road, this little girl found a hole in the fence and decided to check the grass out on the other side. I stopped and told her owner and he had already put her back in the field by the time I returned.
@chris_in_cal – Congratulations on running all your 5K! Goal made! I would have kept running also.
@martaindale – I was watching an interview with Kenny Rogers this morning. Apparently he grew up in Houston. I thought of you and our other Texas friends here when he was describing his high school football debut and he said the low temperature in Houston was 95F in the winter. He wanted to play to impress a cheerleader. In case anyone is curious he didn’t make the team. He passed out from the heat. When he came to in the locker room he decided he would ditch all the padding and become a cheerleader instead.

Slowly and steadily getting back into running (more wunning, really). The weather has been so beautiful.
I'm going to buy new shoes this week as a motivator.
An aside: Any CrossFit people (or former CrossFit people) in this group? If so, what are pros and cons? Is it a good adjunct to running? I'm looking for motivation for my RT, and a couple of people have recommended it.
3 -
I like your cow pics @Teresa502
Very humid this morning (rained all day and night yesterday). But it was below 70F, so I suppose that is a blessing. Did 6.2 miles.
5 -
@chris_in_cal Congratulations on your 5k! It sounds like your race and training plan went really well! And you were able to run the whole way! Have you planned your next race yet ? have found it very helpful in the past with motivation, to have a personal goal in mind that is obtainable, to give me motivation to go out and run on days when I’m not really feeling it.
Today was one of those days actually. After a weekend of too much bbqing and too little sleep/running, I felt pretty lethargic but I know it is important for my marathon training and for my own mental health to get longer runs in when work/life allows, and I managed 14.4km that weren’t of the sort @Teresa502 mentioned - I definitely did not feel like I could run forever! But I got it done, and the weather was perfect. I did spend a considerable amount of effort dodging slugs and some dead mice (gross). I guess I could look up more while running and not focus so much on the ground, but the thought of running right over the slugs and whatever else is laying around on the path always grosses me out.
So far for May I have 106.8/200km.6 -

Thank you, and I'm glad you asked. Yes - https://dodgers.race-mlb.com/race-info/
My Garmin Coach has several options. First is race length: either 5k, 10k, or half marathon. Secondly is to choose a type of goal: either "completing the race" by hook or crook, or to "complete it with a time goal." Lastly is number of weeks until race day.
"To complete it" is the easiest. For the 5K I picked this "to complete it." The plan was rudimentary. All variations on walk/run.
Choosing "complete it with a time goal" The coach becomes adaptive and workouts will adjust based on past workout times, and in relation to the race goal. I just created a Garmin Coach 10k plan for the Sept 30th race. I chose "complete it with a time goal." The slowest available choice was 1:15:00, so that's what I picked.
Ultimately it is a 20 week plan, with a goal to run the 10k in under 1:15:00.
I immediately noticed that the old 5K plan had three runs a week. This new 10K plan has four runs a week, so my weekly workload is going up. It's exciting. A friend signed up for the race too, so it'll be fun to be out there with someone.9 -

It was pretty humid this morning, but the temperature wasn't too bad and I had a pretty nice run. I was only "supposed" to run 1 mile for the streak today, but I ended up running 3.25. I just find running 1 mile to be unsatisfying.
I love the cows @teresa502. And hooray for feeling like you could run forever. It does seem like I have those runs often when I don't have time to keep running. Or maybe I just notice it more when I don't want to stop.

This is so freaky. I saw a dead mouse during my run yesterday also. I don't recall ever seeing one before. What is up with that?
