June Goal: 105 Miles

6/3: 10.25 miles
6/6: 7.05 miles
6/7: 6.55 miles
6/8: 3.11 miles
33.21/105 miles completed for June
I had to cut my run short this morning. My daughter called and had to have her appendix out this morning. I did get 3 miles done, but then I went up to my office to get things organized and drove to Austin. We are at her house now and she seems to be feeling good.

Hey Iβm new here and am excited to join the group! I am a wogger more than anything but love getting my body moving even if Iβm super slow. Iβd like to set my goal at 20 miles for the rest of June! Thatβs a big goal for me but I know I can do it if I stay on track!6

Yes you can! This is pretty much the motto for this group. Stay on track, and it'll happen.2 -
@kgirlhart yikes! Glad she seemed to be feeking ok, hope she recovers quickly.

Morning all.
Got in 4. Bit annoyed. 2M back caused a bit of discomfort
Day off tomorrow. Second in a week! (Who am I?! Lol). All-day drinking at the Cricket tomorrow [translated into American: think- Baseball, out in the sun, all-day drinking beer and eating cr-p! ]. Going with my 2 boys, as well as 5 buddies... So in light of 8 year old, may have to dial it down by 10-20% lol
Sunday will do Elliptical at the gym.
Monday - will try to do a small run.
Have a nice weekend all
@chelsea121991 - welcome! π
@kgirlhart - hope your daughter recovers soon! π
@SummerSkier - hope sniffles (not flu?) gone now! Whiskey with a dash of hot water and squeeze of lemon?? Lol7 -
@kgirlhart That is not a good call to get in the middle of a run. I'm glad you were able to get to go to Austin for her and that she is doing okay. Did she come home the same day? I think my brother had to stay a week when he had his removed, but that was many, many moons ago.
Welcome @chelsea121991 ! You can do it.
@tarun_yadavA I'm sorry that the run back was a bit painful. Maybe you should see an ortho to see what is going on? Enjoy your day tomorrow.3 -
I ran 6.5 miles on my local trail this morning. I love that it is getting daylight so much earlier and am taking advantage of it. It was a cool 45F.
@quilteryoyo - I have never been to Lake Junaluska but it looks so beautiful. Based on the location, I would think a race would be pretty hilly but we're used to that.
@kgirlhart - I hope your daughter continues to heal and feel good. I'm sure having mom there is the best!

@chelsea121991 Welcome! Consistency is key. You got this!
@kgirlhart Hope your daughter is feeling better and recovers quickly.
@tarun_yadavA Bummer. Injuries are so frustrating. It's so easy to get discouraged when things won't just heal up and get back to normal. Stick with the recovery plan. You're getting there.felicityb2026 wrote: Β»Found some well lit streets, it's always a bit risky running at night, I worry I will trip or sprain an ankle.

@martaindale thanks Sarah! π0

@Teresa502 Great cool run. I didn't get up early enough to run this morning, but I bet it was nice. We'll enjoy it while it lasts.
Have fun on your trip @martaindale !

Hey @martaindale which salt tabs do you take? I remember you saying they help you a lot during these hot summer days. Next week summer is really going to kick in, and I have wanted to try salt tabs for a while. Thanks!0

Well, I disappeared again and life continues to be interesting to say the least. I had at least gotten back to running about 3 miles at a time on weekends. Not yet back to more consistent running during the week, mainly due to the mental/motivation struggle. I did start back with strength training at the gym, doing private sessions with my trainer, so I was feeling good about at least getting back to something.
But of course, there was another curveball. I got a call a little over a week ago that they wanted to move my next surgery (part of reconstruction process) up from July 26 to the following Tuesday June 6! I had to hustle to arrange things to get to Boston and have someone be able to go with me. I had the surgery and it went very well. This was a much easier surgery, but I had some fat grafting done which involved liposuctioning some fat from my outer thighs and hips and using that to smooth things out. And now I am pretty bruised all up and down my thighs and it is sore and I have to wear compression 24/7 for a while.
So now I'm in recovery mode again, and probably have another 4 weeks off from running. It's ok, and I'm actually really happy that it got moved up and I can get the recovery over with now and hopefully enjoy more of the summer. Back to lots of walking and hopefully some easier hiking. I won't set a specific goal, but trying to walk everyday, which is pretty easy to do with a demanding dog reminding me of my duties.
Hope you all are well. I've only glanced through a bit but will try to catch up some.11 -
@quilteryoyo
AlphaHowls It looks like you are upping your already high bar! Great mileage for the month already.@Laurz9191
AlphaHowls I also noticed youβve been upping your miles. I really enjoy your sunset pictures! They always look beautiful!
Thank you! I love watching the sunrise!
Warm weather beckons me, which in turn makes me run longer4 -
6/1 - 4 miles
6/3 - 4.5 mile
6/5 - 3 miles
6/6- 4.5 miles
6/8 - 4 miles
June Total: 20 / 75 miles
I'm happy with the progress so far this month, but the next week or two may through me off a bit. My feet arches have been hurting with the last couple of runs and shins are starting to get a bit achy. And I am throwing in a hiking trip next week (going up to the Grand Canyon for a couple of nights).
So I feel it would be best to pull back on the runs this week to make sure I'm in good shape for the hike. I might do a couple of 2 mile runs, but I'm not going to push the mileage this coming week. Im hoping to make up for it the rest of the month, but I don't want to push too hard so I'll just have to see how it goes.6 -
June 1: Walk = 2.00 miles - trip to Hot Springs
June 2: Wun/Walk = 2.00 miles - also mowed mom's lawn
June 3: Walk = 2.00 miles - also mowed my lawn
June 4: Walk = 2.00 miles
June 5: Walk = 1.00 mile - Run = 2.25 miles - driveway laps
June 6: Walk = 2.50 miles - Run = 2.00 miles - treadmill intervals plus tree debris for almost an hour
June 7: Walk= 200 miles - treadmill
June 8: Walk= 1.45 miles - Run = 1.80 miles - driveway laps
June 9: Wun=2.25 miles - driveway laps
23.25/80 miles goal
I had planned to run after work, but for some reason as soon as I pulled into my driveway I got really tired and sleepy. So, I decided it would be more prudent to do a true wun today. I just ran a little bit when I felt like it. It actually felt okay, but glad I did what I did because I am going to do my best to get up and run early in the morning. A run tonight would have made it feel too much like two runs in one day. I wun 2.25 miles in 34:31 min for an avg pace of 15:20 min/mile (3.9 mph). My avg HR was 118, with a max of 133 bpm.

@katharmonic I'm glad your surgery got done early and it went well. Also glad you are still able to walk for exercise. I can't imagine wearing compression 24/7. I had to have them remove my compression socks after my heart surgery because I couldn't sleep with them on. Big hugs to you!
You are doing great @Zaxa2021 . Are your running shoes getting old? I start getting shin splints when I need to get new ones. Enjoy your Grand Canyon hike! I would love to do that someday.3 -
@katharmonic glad your surgery went well, and hope your recovery goes equally as well!
@kgirlhart sorry to hear about your daughter's appendix, but glad you were able to get to Austin to be with her. Hope she heals quickly.
Got in 5 TM miles after work.

@quilteryoyo thank you! You're doing a great job, keep it up!
I didn't do the park run, decided I'd prefer to sleep in, so I did a run on my own later in the morning. Did another 7km, was quite achievable, so I'm feeling very good about myself. I will be making a plan for the next 10 weeks to gradually get longer distances, closer to the 14km race length happening on the 13th August. Trying not to do too much too fast and injur myself π€πΌ7 -
The weekend is upon us. My Dad is coming to visit which means interrupted plans and a big tidy up!
Good to know your surgery went well @katharmonic , rest well and see you back on your feet in a few weeks
I hope your daughter is well on the mend @kgirlhart
After my "triathalon" exercise yesterday I didn't feel like running this morning, a bit warm during the day, didn't feel like running in the evening. Still got out there for wk8 of C25k. I have been at this for 2.5 months now and really thought I would be enjoying at least the first 10 minutes. Instead I seems to be telling myself I have to do this right from the start. When my injury stopped me running a couple of years ago I was grumpy if I didn't run so I guess it will come around again.
Hopefully you all have a good, unsurprising weekend. Cheers!9 -
Holy hell that was a hot, humid, miserable run π₯΅ Started just after 7am and Garmin said temperature was 82F and finished at 91F. I barely made it to 11 miles, and a big chunk of the last mile was walking. I am definitely not acclimated to the heat yet.

You are a wise runner!

Did a short 3 mile run this morning after a glute and ab workout. Had a family graduation party at lunch time and I used that as an excuse not to do a long run today. Planning on one for tomorrow.
@AlphaHowls - Beautiful pictures!
@katharmonic - I've been wondering about you. Glad you checked in with us and really glad you have the reconstructive surgery behind you and are on a path to healing again.
@Scott6255 - I would be struggling in those temperatures too. Good job on the 11 miles.

Hi all. Nice SHOE PORN @tarun_yadavA I am sure those will fix any twinges your knee is still giving you! (new shoes always help me) πππ
Wonderful morning photos @AlphaHowls
Belated happy special birthdays Chris and Scott. I have a significant one coming up in August which is driving a LOT of trash mail... 1958 was a pretty good year too.
@kgirlhart I hope the surgery was not major for your daughter. I can remember back in high school (ok in the 70's) one of our star tennis players had to have hers out and she was out for the entire season with recovery. Welcome to my town. One of these days you and Scott and I are going to have to get together. And maybe @martaindale when she's up near the hill country.
I did my first run since the first of 4 miles yesterday. I am not going to say it was fun or easy but I did enjoy the endorphins after and the feeling of accomplishment. We are headed into a really REALLY hot couple of weeks now so I am not sure my 90 miles is going to happen considering I haven't been able to avg even 2. I think because of being ill I am going to give myself a break and shoot for 60 this month. I have been trying to keep up with my walking but my resting heart rate and HRV stats are telling me that I am not recovered enough to push things yet.
So there is a nice guy at work (my age) who has always been attentive but lately he has started flirting a lot more. He is in a pretty bad marriage I think but I am not attracted to him so I have been just keeping things as "cool" as I can. Anyway he texted me on Thursday on our work IM and asked me "what do you do for fun?" I have been thinking about that ever since. Not him. But "what do I do for fun"
I honestly do not know anymore. The most fun I have had the past few months has been laughing and playing tennis with my neighbor so I think that counts. I used to really have fun playing with Bandit when he was turned out and we would chase each other around. I used to enjoy snow skiing, waterskiing a lot but now I worry too much about getting injured. I used to like going out to dinner or the movies I guess. I am not much of a travelor I don't honestly think running totally counts as fun altho I am always pumped when I am done. ππ³π I don't count sitting on the couch binging netflix or playing candy crush as really fun. Playing with the kitties is fun I guess.
What do YOU do for fun?
and Tarun don't answer that because I already know you go out with the boys...... π€£π€£

@felicityb2026 You sound like my kind of gal - prefer to sleep in and run later. I usually take sleep over getting up early for a run too. Wish I was a morning person, but I'm just not. Sounds like you have a great plan for your Aug race. Slow and steady if the way to go.
@TheMrWobbly I'm sorry you aren't enjoying your runs...dreading get out there it sounds like. I do the same sometimes. When I do, I try to focus on how great I will feel after I am done and know I would be miserable if I let myself talk myself out of at least a nice fast walk. The only run you regret is the one you don't do. Hang in there and hopefully it will get better soon.
You did great in that heat @Scott6255 ! Sounds miserable.
Love all of your pictures @AlphaHowls .
Hope you enjoy your new shoes @tarun_yadavA ! Thanks for the shoe porn.
@SummerSkier I'll have to contemplate on that question and answer later. Right after my husband passed, I had someone ask me what I liked to do (sort or the same question) and I froze. I had no idea. We had always done everything together and I wasn't sure anymore. It's a hard thing to realize.
