My name is Donna. I am 5’ 5” tall, 63 years old and from the Michigan USA. In 2016 I weighed 253 lbs. I am on a journey of health and to get back to the real me.
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!
250’s; 240’s; 230’s; 220's; 210's; 200's; 190's; 180’s; 170's; 160's; 150’s
Starting Weight (from June 30th): 198.2
Goal: (Five lb Loss) 193.2
Actual Ending Weight: xxxxx
Mini challenge: My monthly goal is always about 5 pounds per month. HOWEVER, I never seem to make that. I will continue to keep that goal because it Should Be achievable (even though it is not for me) but never say never, right? So, Between Independence Day Holiday (July 4th) and Labor Day Holiday (Sept 4th) I will weigh somewhere, ANYWHERE in the 180’s. I don’t care if it’s on the brim. I’ve got to start getting further away from the 200’s again! Starting Weight on 7/4 is 195.4.
**************************************ONE DAY, ONE STEP, ONE DECISION AT A TIME************************************
Weight in blue makes me blue because it’s a gain. Weight in fuchsia pink makes me feel cheery because it’s a loss. Weight in black means no change.

I am happy with my progress so far this round, including my trend weight. Not traveling has helped. I may have to go out of town on Thursday, however. I need to do some grocery shopping and it is supposed to be 93 degrees that day. With no air conditioning here, I would look forward to the air in the car and in the stores. Trying to be strategic.

I hadn’t seen her all summer. I ate very little lunch and came home and ate like a pig. You’d think I’d know better by now. She says inappropriate things from time to time. Maybe she was trying to be nice.

@Melwillbehealthy I don't think someone calling you fat can ever be looked at as "nice". You are working so hard on your weight for your health and it's working. Don't let some unthoughtful, probably jealous and unkind works derail you. You already lost almost 8 pounds this month and July isn't over yet! Keep up the good work. I'm proud of what you are accomplishing for the T2D and other health issues!
Donna, thank you for the kind words. I think you’re right about her not being that nice, as I would never tell someone they’re fat in any way, shape or form. She doesn’t know what I’m doing health wise, but it’s not really an excuse. I know she has issues, but this isn’t the first time she’s insulted me. I think life is short, and I don’t want to spend my time around her anymore. I’ll be avoiding her in the future.
The good news is that I’ve changed! Instead of giving up after last night’s fiasco, I shopped for healthy foods, and then had a lovely swim for an hour. I’m going to another video stretching class tomorrow and want to be somewhat prepared.
You and I weigh about the same, but I’m shorter and older than you.

July 26: 185.2 I have a tough week coming up. Friends from college moved to FL a couple of years ago. When they come back home for a visit they stay with us. They are arriving this afternoon and will be here a week. They are big eaters and drinkers. They know that I am on a goal to get healthy, but . . . . I am excited to see them, but feel the pressure already. Wish me luck.4 -
@jm216 Happy Birthday to Hubby! Thank for doing this again next month.
@joans1976 Hope all went well with your appointments.
@Melwillbehealthy I read this article on how to deal with insults, easier said than done - but thought it was interesting. https://thegoalchaser.com/how-to-ignore-insults/
@deepwoodslady It has been a good month for you. And love the nail polish!2 -
Hi, Everyone! I am a 5'4", 45 year-old married female with four kids. I am a two-time cancer survivor, which put me into Early Menopause, and also have Hypothyroidism. I am currently dealing with sciatica and muscle deconditioning, which means I need to focus on calories in and out while I am recovering by building flexibility and strength through physical therapy. I have had a rough couple of months with my current muscle issues, losing my grandmother, losing my job, and my husband trying to recover from cervical fusion surgery, but I am grateful to have a new month to start again and keep the hope alive!
Goals for July:
1. Find a great new job and enjoy this extra time with my kids.
2. Create a meal plan for myself and my family.
3. Daily PT and walking.
4. Organize and minimize my house and belongings.
Weight Tracking for July:
7/01: 190.7
7/02: 188.5 - Surprise there.
7/03: DNW
7/04: 185.7 - Weight loss due to sickness.

7/10: DNW - sick last night
7/11: 187.8 - Dehydration I believe and not weight loss.
7/12: 186.7 - Still thinking dehydration, but will keep my eyes on this.
7/13: 186.5
7/14: 186.5 - Holding steady. Very interesting if this is real progress.
7/15: 186.3
7/16: 185.4
7/17: 187.0 - Ate late, not great, and over calories.
7/18: 184.5 - Interesting.
7/19: 186.5 - Late dinner.
7/20: 184.3
7/21: 183.9

7/25: 181.5
7/26: 183.02 -
@jm216 - I hope you have a great couple of days between your husband's birthday and spending time with your daughter!
@gomifune - Well done staying consistent this month!
@deepwoodslady - Congrats on the breakthrough!
@joans1976 - Thinking of you and all those appointments!
@Melwillbehealthy - What wonderful progress you have made this month!!! I am sorry about your "friend's" unkind words. One of my old friends can be the same way, but growing up with her, I know a lot of it comes from her mom who expected perfection from her all the time. Now that I am thinking about it, I am glad that I haven't seen her in person lately for her to give me one of her "compliments". I wish her well and know that she still posts that "perfect" life on Facebook. Lol!
@ddainiak - Your friends who are coming to visit sound like a hoot. Enjoy the shenanigans!2 -
Darlene,
Good luck with your friends. I’m not sure I could handle a whole week. It’s a long time when you’re hosting someone.
Also. Thanks for the article. I’ll definitely be reading it. She mentioned to me that she doesn’t have anyone to travel with. I felt sorry for her and told her maybe she could travel with me ( even though I don’t have any immediate plans to go anywhere). I now know why she’s alone. I do feel sorry for her.
@BittersweetVita I think I’m making good progress this month because of this challenge. This is the first challenge I’ve joined , and it really makes me accountable. Your friend sounds a lot like mine, hard to deal with!1 -
Hi! I’m a grandma of 8 from Canada. I live near my kids and help out babysitting a fair bit. I was never overweight when I was young, but have probably been obese off an on for the past 20 years. Something changed in my mental outlook about 5 months ago when my doctor told me I was now diabetic. She had previously warned me, but I just didn’t pay attention. I listened this time and am taking it seriously. I’m determined to get healthy.
My goal is to be able to stop taking several prescribed drugs, and lower blood sugar levels. I believe it will take me over a year to do this, but I’m going to do it. I was always healthy before I got fat. I have over 100 lbs. to lose. I’ve already lost 35 in the last 5 months, decreased my bp medication, and my blood sugar level has decreased significantly.
I’ve made lifestyle changes, and I’m counting calories most days. I’ve started swimming more. Recently, I even travelled for the first time in years.

July 23: 195.6 morning, swim for 50 min. Tried on my clothes yesterday, and was surprised to find that some are too big. I’ve been at this for 5 months and it’s taken that long for me to notice a real change in size. My clothes are stretchy! I’m actually excited to go shopping. I’ll wait for the cooler, fall weather though.
July 24: 194.6 did stretching video, felt everything, so good😅
July 25: NW can’t face the scale, bad night. I had lunch with a friend who stressed me out. I’m usually easy going about things, but she got to me.She’s not always that nice. So interesting thing at the doctor yesterday. I am having severe arm, breast and side pain where I had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal in December. It is quite swollen and I have lymphedema so I see a occupational therapist and wear compression garments 24 hours a day. I do exercises twice a day and follow all the instructions from the doctors. My arm suddenly swelled up quite large last week and I have been really babying it (its hard to only use one arm!) so i went to see the doctor to ask questions like is this a lifelong condition, etc. The doctor actually took her time with me and while she was examining me she commented that I had a "beautiful figure." I said "what?!!? I am on an eternal diet and kind of hate my body." (Keep in mind I am 5'2" and weigh 200 pounds, I am not curvy I am shaped like a weeble wobble toy.) So she said she would refer me to the cancer dietician but she said in the meantime to do three things: MFP (done), my diet should consist of 30% protein (not done) and walk 30 minutes a day (not done.) I have been really depressed lately due to a lot of things, not just cancer recovery or my body shape and it was kind of nice to hear I had a "beautiful figure" and to hear I am doing the right thing by being on MFP. I rarely come out of these cancer appointments feeling good.
Thanks for listening!5 -

@joans1976 What a wonderful doctor! I know all too well how we can sometimes feel about our bodies during the healing journey with cancer. For her to reaffirm your beauty is magical. How wonderful to have that support. What you are going through is a lot. A LOT. Oh, beautiful, beautiful you Amanda. None of that has changed. I'm here if you need me.2

@jm216 I LOVE the graphs! I know you've been doing so well and I'm proud of you! To see it layed out like that in the graphs really puts a good perspective on it. You are SLAYING it!1

My name is Donna. I am 5’ 5” tall, 63 years old and from the Michigan USA. In 2016 I weighed 253 lbs. I am on a journey of health and to get back to the real me.
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

07/25-194.0-(Trend Weight 196.2)- I Typed my weight in black because I knew it was a perfect on-point day with both diet and exercise so this is just an overnight fluctuation.
07/26-193.8-(Trend Weight 196.0)- I drank 100 oz of water yesterday which wasn’t as hard to do as I thought. I just set time limits for myself. 24 by noon. 24 by 4:00-4:30, 24 by 9:00 and 24 by 1:00 am (I stay of late). Thinking of it in smaller increments helped. Also, I walked down the driveway to the mailbox and just kept walking without having planned it. I had on my squirrel shoes (the one’s I jump into to go out and feed the squirrels and birds), not my walking shoes but I walked for about 12 minutes up and down the hills of my neighborhood. A short walk but better than nothing. I think I can do that more often but not today as severe thunderstorms are expected any minute. Sad to see my weight still isn’t moving. I stuck to my diet plan and snacking plan. I’m really looking forward to joining you all in the 180’s lounge because I know how much my glucose improves and how much better I will feel.

Mary here checking in. Motivating to have this place with these wise women to think and learn. Logging every day now, still trying IF in mornings and keto w/o meat, hoping to stimulate some weight loss from the plateau I'm sitting on. My blood pressure is in stage 1 hypertension at best, and weight loss is key to helping with that. I weighed in at 170 yesterday, got 13k steps, drank most of that water, logged my meals. I was up a pound this morning at 171.2, but reading others' posts that is normal fluctuation. Still not able to master this messaging skill yet. Gratitude: Two mourning doves are playing with each other out my window in the avocado tree and on the windowsill so close I can appreciate the pale blue rings around their eye sockets and the amazing sheen of blue on their heads.3

Had a blast last night at the concert. We bought general admission tickets which meant we had no seats and watched the concert in front of the stage. It last about 2 hours and we rocked out and danced the whole time! I could not have done that before I lost the weight. ❤️4 -

@jm216
I have to share my weight chart with you - our journeys are SO similar! Around 30ish pounds lost since January, but a very slow sticky plateau for the last few months. But, like you, I’m sticking with it, even though I do really miss the downward momentum I had the first four months 😉! Thanks for the reminder to think about the big picture. ❤️ We can do this!

@joans1976 What a wonderful doctor you have. I think we don't see a change in our bodies - but those that haven't seen us in a while do. You have lost 50 pounds, that is just amazing. Remember that!
@deepwoodslady I struggle to get in the 56 oz of water that is my goal, can't imagine 100! Wow! And another pick day!
@Buckeyebabe7l7 Concert sounds like a lot fun!
@jm216 and @gomifune - Thanks for sharing your charts! I think it's really important to look how far we have come, especially when we start to struggle. Losing weight is so hard, but we are doing it - one pound at a time. Congrats on your success!

Whoops! I overslept this morning so I couldn’t post but I’m trying to show up every day. It was one heck of a Monday!

Ladies, I dont know what I did to have the Gods smile upon me but not only did I have a woosh during the night, I woke up for the first time in about 10 months without being in excruciating pain! It feels so nice!
I also thought of another thing the doctor told me about weight loss: gone are the days when we can eat 1000 or 1200 calories for a few days and lose 5 pounds, our bodies are just not equipped for that anymore. (Aaah the good ol days) As we get older, everything slows down (I know there are many forums on here that argue this) and fat tends to collect in our bellies. Im 46 so she considers me to be "getting older." She also said to stay hydrated and that I should really be drinking 100 oz of water daily but she was telling me that more from a lymphedema standpoint then a "everyone" standpoint.4 -
@jm216 and @gomifune I love graphs! I love your graphs! I wish I could post mine but I am not tech savvy enough to figure it out. I have to look at mine when I get discouraged to see that the overall trend is going down, MFP has my weight since 2011! I also use Happy Scale and that comes with all sorts of data points.
@deepwoodslady and @ddainiak 56 oz of water!!!! I would freak out. I drink at least 120 oz a day. I have a 30 oz tumbler and I just keep filling it with ice water. My mouth is always very dry (meds? anxiety? who knows?) so I have no problem wanting to drink it. I only drink coffee and water and once a week or so I have a little 7 oz can Diet Pepsi. Do you ladies not like it or you just forget?1 -
Found Jill's August challenge! MFP really buries these things!

My weigh in says still on my plateau but then again I look at Kelly's steps and see what kind of activity I might be able to do if I focus on that. I also looked in at IF discussions and saw much more dedication and stricter following of this diet than I'm doing.
I've done 3k this morning so far, going out to do some yard work which won't yield many steps but is beneficial all around. Then more steps and will also stay focused on my diet.
My brain is not perfect for routines of any sort, naturally ("oh, look, a butterfly!"), but I. can. do. this.2 -

No air conditioning so I pulled the cooler air in all night in anticipation and the curtains are closed today. I was going to go out of town to shop but I already feel like a wet rag that is only partially wrung out so home I stay! I will have no problem getting in my strength training but to get my heart rate up in exercise could be dangerous in this house or outside. If I do anything, it will be if we get any relief tonight.
