@martaindale -What does the kid think of Rome and of Italy in general? Mine loved Italy although we didn't go to Rome. She was ready to just move/stay there forever.
They loved Italy, especially Tuscany and Venice. They had wanted to see Pompeii for several years. While they had a good time in Rome, I think the heat made it hard to really enjoy being out and about all day. They love pasta and I think they had some for at least 1 meal every day the entire time we were in Italy. Regular gelato stops were also a big plus! In general they enjoy traveling. We haven't done a big trip in a couple of years and in that time they have entered teenage years, are sleeping a lot more (and are harder to wake up in the morning) and generally are grumpier. We had some rough mornings and a few melt downs, but overall they did well.
And, congrats on getting your staples out and being able to move around a little easier!7 -
@kgirlhart We have a squirrel in our backyard that does the same thing in one of my potted plants!
@quilteryoyo Very cool that you got to swim with manatees!

Got in 4.4M (10"07)...
Montreal (Mount Royal... Is... Unsurprisingly, very hilly! D'uhhh)
Not sure how much more alcohol/fatty food abuse the system can handle...
Poutine and Bagels and French themed pastries incoming!!
@tarun_yadavA - I love Montreal! Was fortunate to have to be there every week for several months for work. It is so walkable/runnable and so clean! I had some of the best coffee there and the pastries were better than the really awesome ones we had in Europe!
@Scott6255 - be careful with that heat! Sometimes it just isn't worth it to push yourself so hard!
@martaindale - I am so glad your kid and you all had a good time! I would be up for pasta and gelato every day too but the heat ugh!
This has been a busy week with lots of morning appointments so I haven't gotten out for a walk. Should have gone today as it was actually cool with marine layer clouds. Unfortunately I slept in, probably because it was so wonderfully cool, and didn't get out. I am feeling so much better, almost back to normal and hoping I can run Hobbes at agility class on Monday.
Not running related but a picture of our kitchen demo on Tuesday and the related sad story 😫
The guys came early, wrapped the kitchen up in plastic to keep the dust down and proceeded to take out all the old cabinets and tile countertops. Don't know what they were thinking that they also cut out all of the drywall, even behind the stove and refrigerator where there were no cabinets. They were not supposed to do anything with the drywall so now the contractor needs to shift all the schedules around to bring in the drywall team to replace what was taken out. Meant they couldn't deliver and install the new cabinets on Friday as planned and they also didn't get the payment for the completion of that phase of the work. Hopefully it will get resolved this next week but we now need to arrange to have things painted once the other work is completed.6 -

I'm attempting to streak this month. I have to say that I've always been impressed by our streakers, but it really takes a lot of dedication. No matter the weather, family obligations, vacations, or just one of those days where you're not feeling the feeling....the streak must go on!5 -
Way to hang in there and get it dong @Scott6255 . I'm glad you didn't puke.
You're doing great with your running @tarun_yadavA . I think the body can stand more fatty foods than it should - hence the obesity problem in the US.
Amazing @AlphaHowls !
Welcome home @martaindale ! You did great with your exercise while in Italy! I hope you can figure out the picture situation. I would love to see them.
You're doing great @SummerSkier ! What a difference a couple of days make! I have done the same thing - felt much better on a run after eating junk for a day or so. Interesting about the military making you rebel against feeling like you have to do things. I, on the other hand, prefer a plan and structure and blame the military for that. But, I do give myself permission to do something else if I'm not feeling the plan. Maybe we had extremely different experiences in the military.
@shanaber I'm glad you are feeling better and hope you can run Hobbes on Monday. I know you will both enjoy that. So sorry about the demo debacle. Hopefully it will be resolved soon and the rest will go as planned.5 -

Today, a nap after errands in town won out over running. I guess I needed it, because it was a long nap.
I did do a treadmill wun later. I was sort of lazy and did a 1.7 mile wun to commemorate that today marks 17 years since my husband passed away from brain cancer. That seems like sooo sooo long ago, but some days I feel like he's still here and should walk through the door any minute. Death and grief are odd things.10 -

I can post photos. Hmmmm

@shanaber oh no! So sorry about the construction headache. Having your kitchen messed up is such a pain.3

Went out to the neighborhood trail this morning. I feel like I'm finally acclimating a bit to the heat. My VO2 max bumped up to 44 after the run this morning and it wasn't crazy hard despite the heat.7 -
Here's a rando pic from my laptop using the webpage interface. The other day I couldn't load a pic using the app on my phone...
1 -
Here is another one from the app, on an Android phone.
Nope....I can't load a small .jpg picture from my phone.0 -
I loaded from my iphone app. I was too lazy to put it in a spoiler but had no issues.1
-
Welp, seems like it's an android app issue. Boo. That's what I use 99% of the time. Hopefully there is a fix coming soon.4

119.37/115 miles completed for July
I wasn't feeling well when I got off work on Friday. I felt better Saturday morning, but I slept in a bit and only ran 1.5 miles. It was 79° F, so it was hot and my stomach was iffy, so I didn't want to push it.
Today I felt better. It was 70° F at the start of the run. I wish I had gotten up a little earlier. It was about 7:40 when I headed out. But sometimes I just remind myself that sleep is an important part of health, so I try not to beat myself up about sleeping in occasionally.
The weather was nice starting out, but it warmed up quickly and by the time I finished it was 84°F feels like 86°. I did run 10 miles and it took me over two hours. So I guess a shorter run would have ended while the morning was still pleasant.
I got chased by a dog. It was a smallish dog, I think a jack russell or similar terrier. He lives in a house about 2 blocks from me and he is always in the back yard and always barks when I run by. There is one house between his house and the highway. I had just crossed the highway when he came running up behind me. I yelled at him and ran faster and he finally quit chasing me, but it was scary. Most of the time I hear dogs before they get that close and I didn't even realize he was there until he was right at my heels. I was afraid he would bite me but luckily he didn't. It is frustrating, because on weekday mornings when it is dark I run past his house to the highway because it is the most well lit way to go. Not sure what I'll do tomorrow. But they better do something soon. The house is right next to the parking lot for a pre-K thru 2nd grade elementary school and school starts in couple of weeks. The last thing they need is a mean dog harassing the teachers and the people dropping off their kids.
I reached my goal for July today. I do enjoy the streaks, but it will be nice to take off on Saturday mornings. I am thinking about adding an extra run on either Monday or Friday though. I do like running every weekday before work. Especially since my job is accounting, and it is very sedentary.

Beautiful flower @SummerSkier !
Great run @martaindale !
Hahaha @AlphaHowls ! Great picture though. And, of course, great running.
Great 10 miles this morning @kgirlhart . Sorry about being chased by the dog though. Those little ones, I have found, seem to be the worst and sneakiest. Is it always out or was today a fluke? I know you said it usually barks at you from it's yard. But, I know how you feel. I have quit some of the routes I used to run because of the dogs that live there. It's frustrating.2 -

57.91/80 mile goal
I did a 2 miles treadmill walk between church and lunch today. Then, I played doubles tennis this evening, outdoors, with the ladies that are better than me....which is great for improving my game. The temp was 84F (28.9C) with a slight breeze. I didn't feel horrible.
This week is going to be a busy one - back to the grind. A couple of days it is really going to be hard to get in a run/walk, so may have some one mile only days. I hope not many or I'm not going to make my goal for the month. I'll do my best and that is all I can do.4 -
Hi Everyone!
Greetings from California! I had a bit of a hard time adjusting to the time change as my oldest got mixed up and thought the time on his watch was accurate and woke the whole family up because it was “9:00” and not, in fact, midnight . We were all completely wiped yesterday, mostly due to lack of sleep, but this morning I felt mostly normal so I went out and ran 11.1 km.
The weather was perfect, not hot, not cold, nice breeze. I ran by the house I spent the first 6 years of my life at and enjoyed the different scenery. I am not quite sure which routes are good routes to go on around here, because I wanted to avoid the major roads and the homeless encampments. I hope to explore more tomorrow.
So far for July 109.2/150km for July.6 -
In San Diego the big annual event here is called Comicon. There are lots of people and costumes. It was nice weather this weekend for all the visitors.

Great run @Laurz9191 . Enjoy your vacation.
Nice running @chris_in_cal . The question of the day is: What did you dress up as when you ran?2 -
Very cool that you got to see and run past your childhood home @Laurz9191. That time change is a killer!
Got out this morning for a speed session. 7x3:00 with 3:00 recoveries and 1 mile WU/CD. The intervals felt just comfortably hard, and averaged 7:20/mi. So getting a little fitter I think. Plus it was ONLY 77F 😁 Ended up with 7.3 miles.

Morning all. Hello from Quebec Canada.
Got in a 4Miler here. (09"56). Very pretty here.
Feel so unhealthy... Back in London Wednesday night.
Got 1 more night in Montreal. 1 in New Jersey... Then fly out.
@Laurz9191 hope you're enjoying California!
-9 hours must be brutal.
My brother lives in Pleasanton... Always a killer when either party visits!
@chris_in_cal what's your costume for Comicon? 😂5 -

Welcome back @martaindale and @quilteryoyo. Loved hearing about your travels and enjoyed the pictures. Hope you are getting acclimated to CA time and enjoying your reminiscing @Laurz9191.
@Chris_in_cal – I had never heard of Comicon until I started watch the Big Bang Theory. I’m sure you saw a lot of interesting characters this weekend.

I will be darned, the cow photobombed me again.10

@AlphaHowls I am really sorry enjoying your sunrise pictures! Beautiful!
I was pretty tired this morning, but also eager to run. I went 11.1km. It was a lot hotter this morning, but I was able to run through a couple late morning sprinklers and drink from a water fountain at the nearby university. I ran through the campus, which was really pretty. It is the university my parents both went to and met at . Tomorrow we are going to Long Beach to the aquarium, so I will have to see if I can get a run in before we leave.
So far for July 120.3/150km.8 -
@AlphaHowls - love the sunrise pictures and the cow!
@martaindale - I think it is awesome that you were able to run in so many beautiful places. I love doing that when we travel. Somehow I think you get a better/different perspective or appreciation of the area and sometimes see places you wouldn't otherwise because you get off the busier streets.
@kgirlhart - I hope there are no more issues with that dog. I think I mention before your neighbors JRT that bit me twice when I ran by their house. The first time requiring a few stitches and a tetanus shot. Needless to say I no longer go by their house. I am much more afraid of the little ones than bigger dogs.
@Teresa502 - love the Big Bang! I got the entire boxed set for DH for Christmas last year and we are working out way through them. So funny and there seem to be so many we have not seen before.
@Laurz9191 - you should see if there is a way you could go for a run by the aquarium. There are some nice paths there in Shoreline Park along the ocean! Also check out Parker's Lighthouse if you are there for dinner. They have a great deck that looks out at the Queen Mary and really good food.
I got out for a walk with Hobbes yesterday before it got too too warm and we got in a bit over 2 miles. It was slow because I was hurting a bit but it still feels great to get outside. Over the weekend we had some marine layer clouds come in and late afternoon yesterday it actually rained a bit. Today, however, is back into the 90s.
My friend that ran the Hardrock 100 posted her race recap if you want to read about it. It sounds grueling and just the elevation change and number of extreme elevation climbs are daunting not even thinking about the trail conditions and snow!6 -
Also check out Parker's Lighthouse if you are there for dinner. They have a great deck that looks out at the Queen Mary and really good food.
Small world. Last time I was in Long Beach (about two years ago) we went to Parker's Lighthouse. I second it. Great view, a nice harborside place.1 -
My buddies and I all turned 60 this year. The current peer pressure amongst us is:
"Are you doing any resistance training?"
I most decidedly am not doing any resistance training.
Today I ran an experiment. The nearby pool where I have a membership has a gym too. I read all about my watches' strength training capabilities, creating workouts, tracking reps and sets etc.
With all the motivation I could muster I rode my bike (all of 5 minutes away) and did a very abbreviated and light weightlifting session.
Feeling swole, prepared for pain tomorrow morning, and optimistic I'll be able to get out of my easy chair five or ten years from now.11
