Met a friend for 5 miles before work this morning.
@kgirlhart – that poor squirrel. He looks exhausted!
Congrats on your 5K @tarun_yadavA! Changing time zones is so hard!
Wow @Mari33a that was some massage!

@polskagirl01 Haha about the AC. I'm glad it was okay the second night. I'm glad you have support for your family drama while you are here. That can make a huge difference. I also understand the mixed feelings about your grandfather too. When my husband passed away, my hospice chaplain told me that more often than not men will marry again within the first year of their spouse passing away. I think they just need the companionship and some, honestly, need the "maid" service. LOL Money being involved can complicate things. I hope it all works out, and, like you, if he's happy, that is what matters the most.
I hope the nicotine patch helps and you feel more energetic after you have stopped using it. Yeah for the surprise swimsuit. LOL I hope your remaining squash do well, even though you won't be there to enjoy them. Do you have a garden in PA?
Great run yesterday @Laurz9191 . The only run you regret is the one you don't do!
@Mari33a Glad the new shoes seem to be working out for you! I need to order some new ones soon.
@kgirlhart You are doing great getting your runs in early. That is a horrible heat wave! The squirrel is so cute.
Great running @Teresa502 ! We got a storm soon after I got up this morning.

Morning everyone!
Thanks for the kind words @SummerSkier @quilteryoyo @Teresa502
Got in a 13K (8.08M) at 09"38... Ran from Downtown along Lake Michigan. Very scenic!
Today is gonna be another day of eating and drinking heavily6 -

Another hot run this morning. It was 82° F with 55% humidity and a dew point of 63°. So it seemed worse than yesterday although it really was about the same. It was tough starting out, but I did sleep better last night and got up better this morning. I ran 6 miles. I didn't have negative splits this time, but I did finish faster than I started. So far every day this week I have missed the sprinklers at the courthouse, but I have managed at least one sprinkler in someone's yard. It really does help.

@chris_in_cal I'm not joking after 9 days I still have traces of browny/yellow bruise marks on my legs and left arm . I said to the lady when she had done "I think you broke me"
I may have to book an appointment next time I visit Ireland
2 -
Great job on your 5K @tarun_yadavA, and the following 8 miles the next day. Enjoy all the American decadence2

@quilteryoyo no garden here... chickens would probably destroy one anyway 😆1

6.3 TM miles today. I hear it is supposed to be below 80F here Saturday morning 😁

I'm feeling hot and run down. I'll keep plodding as the first crisp day of autumn is creeping into view.

@chris_in_cal I hear you. I feel the same. Took a few walk days today. Make sure you are eating enough if you cut your cals.
Heat seems unrelenting even at 6 am in the morning my AC kicked off. I can take 100 plus because I expect it in Tex but I wish it would at least cool to the mid to low 70's for my morning runs.5 -
Morning all.
Got in 4.68M (09"25).
Ran 3 in a throw here... Didn't think I'd get many in.
@Scott6255 thanks lol
@SummerSkier kudos for getting those runs in, in the heat5 -
Great run @tarun_yadavA . I'm glad you have a scenic place to run. Enjoy your day.
Nice running in those conditions @kgirlhart ! Glad you have found at least one sprinkler during your runs. Getting cooled off for a minute I'm sure feels wonderful and energizing. But, I would probably just want to stop and stand there for a while.
@polskagirl01 Chickens just do what chickens do and don't care about what they are destroying. That is why we had to get rid of ours when I was growing up....that and the fact that the rooster loved to chase me every time I went outside!
Nice use of the TM @Scott6255 . I hope it is cooler on Sat and you can get out for run.
@SummerSkier Not cooling off at night is the worst. You are doing great.
You are doing great with your runs while on vacation - and eating and drinking more than normal @tarun_yadavA !2 -

Looks like the last time I posted my runs/walks was on the 10th! As you can see from the above, I did okay with my exercise while on vacation. I was pleased that I only had three one mile days. It was way hotter than I am used to when running, even in the early morning. We did get rain almost everyday, so the evenings would have been cooler, but I never knew if I would have the time or if the rain/storms would stop, so I tried to get out early most days.
A few more details about my vacation and some pictures are in the spoiler below, if you are interested in non-exercise related stuff. LOL Sorry, but it is pretty long. The reason for my vacation was to see my late husband's family. I was invited to his ex-wife's family reunion. She has invited me many times, but I didn't know if it would feel odd going to a reunion for her side of the family. I decided to give it a go and see how it went since I knew that was the only way that I would get to see all of the steps (children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren) . I was surprised that I was fine being there, but I had met several of the family before and other's who weren't part of the family were invited too - so it was a great big party. I'm glad I went.
The big news is that there is another great-grandbaby on the way and it's a boy! They just found out and did the reveal on Friday. That will make 10 great-grands that live in Palm Bay and two in OH. I wasn't able to get a picture of all of them at the same time, but this one has most. It sure was noisy when they were all together.
A lot of the family in the pool.
I put the youngest to sleep a couple of times. She's an adorable 10 month old. She stood all by herself for the first time while I was there.
Me and Ellie.
Ellie standing by herself.
I got up really early on Monday morning - like 3 am early, in order to get ready and be at my step-daughter's house by 5am. We went to Blue Springs, a two hour drive, for the day with her two children and a couple of their friends. Nice group of young ladies. The Springs is a place to swim and ride an innertube down - just chill, literally. The water is 74F (23.3C) year round. It is a favorite place for the manatee to congregate, especially in the winter. If a manatee swims up to you, you can let it touch you, but you can't swim toward them or touch them. You're supposed to try to stay 20 feet from them. There are volunteers that follow them in a canoe to make sure that everyone follows the rules and don't harass them. We were fortunate and saw/swam with seven that day!
Manatee coming up for a breath.
Me relaxing.
I took Tippy to the beach a couple of times. She still won't get in the waves and barks at them when they "chase" her. But, she loves the sand and digging and seemed very happy to be there.
Tippy at the beach.
Digging in the sand.
The morning I walked on the beach, I was saw schools of fish that were being chased by tarpon. It was very cool. People were fishing for the tarpon, but didn't see anyone catch one.
The black blob is little fish.
Bye bye beach.
Now back to reality....at least I haven't had to work since I got back.

Very cool that you got to swim with manatees @quilteryoyo! Looks like you and Tippy had a good time2

@quilteryoyo LOVE LOVE LOVE all the photos. Welcome home and hope recovery from the trip is quick. I bet your Mom missed you a ton tho and I bet that grass did not stop growing either.1

I just needed at least a mile today for my streak, so I slept in a little so I could get out at the coolest part of the day. It was 79°F at 6:52 am. It is usually a few degrees cooler at 7:00 am than at 5:30-5:45 which is when I usually head out. It has been over 80° all week and even as high as 87°, so I guess I'll take it. I ran 3.12 miles. I know I only needed 1 mile, but I kind of hate to get dressed for a run and then be done after 10-12 minutes. I did see 3 jackrabbits today. And it was nice to run when it wasn't dark.
@quilteryoyo Great job keeping up with your streak while on vacation. It looks like you had a great time.
You too @tarun_yadavA I am so jealous of all of the vacationers. The pictures are awesome!

Thanks @Scott6255 . It was cool to swim with the manatees.
Thanks @SummerSkier ! You are right. The grass didn't stop growing. Too bad we can't put those things on pause when we're on vacation.
Thanks @kgirlhart . You did great on your run today. I'm with you about getting out for just one mile, but I'll do it when time is short and that's all I can do. Jackrabbits are cool. We just have the little cotton tailed ones here.

I am feeling much better today than I did yesterday. I guess I was just recuperating from the trip. I went down for a treadmill session about 2 pm. I wasn't sure how much I would do, but was shooting for 3 miles total. Since I hadn't felt the best yesterday, I decided to do quarter mile intervals of walking/running at 3.8/5.0 mph and see how it went. The first mile was tough. My legs just didn't want to move. It got better after that, so wound up going for a little over an hour. Total of 4.5 miles. Avg HR was 124 with a max of 146 bpm.

@quilteryoyo nice workout session after your trip.
Did the usual 6 TM miles today. I WILL go outside tomorrow morning 😉

@chris_in_cal I am just a part time streaker. Run the Year has several Streaker challenges where you run or walk at least one mile every day for a month. The streak months are March, May, July, September and November.3

Just after sunset a big bushy coyote ran past me toward the lake.

@chris_in_cal I have walked/ran at least one mile a day since I got home from having open heart surgery to repair an aneurysm on Jan 8, 2020....I started the streak on Jan 12, 2020. Once I was given the okay to walk faster, I have only counted walks faster than 3.5 mph, I think. I missed one day in 2020 when I had the stomach flu and walking to the kitchen was a chore.
I'm glad the coyote ran PAST you @chris_in_cal . That would have scare the bezeebers out of me.5 -
12.2 miles this morning. The 1st 6 miles felt pretty good, but then the sun came out and all my energy got zapped! Had to walk at some point during each of the last 6 miles. I don't think I have ever puked after a run, but this was the closest I have been 🤢

I got 2 more short runs done in Italy. The first was in the Tuscan countryside. There was a nice pedestrian path along the road our hotel was on. I saw a hot air balloon and some very scenic views. The second was in Venice. We stayed on a small island across the channel from the main island. The 2.6 miles was an out and back from one end of the island to the other. It rained the night before and some clouds were still hanging around so the sunrise was really pretty.
We came home yesterday and even though I slept great last night, I'm still dragging a bit today. I was going to go out for a short run today but haven't managed to talk myself into it yet. I find doing a run like I would normally helps to get back on schedule but idk if I have it in me today. We'll see if it happens.
I'm having problems attaching pictures the last couple of posts. Not sure what's going on there but maybe I need to do an update or something. Those of you are on Strava have seen a few pictures.8 -
Goal of 100 miles this month. On track I think. I had some pretty ugly food days tue/wed/thu but I managed to rein in on thur evening and altho yesterday's run was nauseating all of a sudden I felt really strong for tennis in the evening. I guess stuffing your body with extra cals will do that. But oddly I think if I was going to prep for a race I think I would give myself 48-72 hrs to ease back off before the race. I really love feeling strong so one day I will find the sweet spot eating at just the right level / balance / macros? Maybe. 12:03 pace for a 5k on Fri 😩 and 9:48 for 4 miles today. 😳
Not much of a streaker here except for maybe logging on MFP. I have some strange PTSD from my military days and so when it feels like something is forcing me (like a training plan or schedule or even streak) my stomach knots up and I totally rebel and resist.
