Well had a nice long chat with my middle sister on the phone this evening. I knew she had gone to the doctor a week or so ago. I had texted her, "you know I will keep contacting you, its what I do". Well her back has a crushed disc, so that might be causing the numbness in legs and hands. Her insurance won't pay for an MRI or other scans until she can prove she needs them. Its crazy! The back issue showed on a normal X-Ray which the doctor approved and ok'ed it right after the appt. I don't think her doctor is really into trying to find out what's wrong. She also only eats one meal a day, granted she wakes up at 2 pm but she says she's up to 254 lbs. From like 200. She also was smoking a cigarette during the video call. (Pick and choose your battles Rebecca) was playing in my brain. It was nice chatting with her though.

Tracey- we feed the feral, neighborhood cats. Dh likes cats more than people
There is one cat, Jack (One eyed Jack) that has lived in our back yard for years. Always hangs out but never lets us get close to him. He does hang out next to the catio and talks to them at night or when he wants me to put food out for him. There has always been at least a couple in the front too- never know which will show up- Dh gives them canned and dried food a minimum two or three times a day. I keep telling him to not put so much out at night because he is just feeding the coons but he doesn't stop.4 -
Hello, my chickens...I guess I've been back in "first sleep/second sleep" mode last night and tonight. Sleep for three hours, wake for two, sleep for three. There are worse things.
Tonight's pleasant surprise, and it got longer than I meant it to:My husband has decided, I think, that the extra pounds he's put on over this last year or two are bugging him, so he's switched to light beer. In that same time, he's stopped chips in his lunch for the last month, and last night, let me know in case I'm up early that he had already made his lunch. He also said that, if I do make it next week, he's no longer taking bread in it either - just a packet with meat and cheese, a packet of fresh/pickled veggies, and an apple. He put it all together before he went to bed.
Until now, in the years we've been together, he has had a sandwich, chips, an apple and fresh/pickled veggies in his lunch Every. Single. Day. More than 3,000 lunches that were effectively the same, just the ingredients of each element changed. He also hasn't ever made his lunch the night before, because the bread gets soggy.
Uppermost in my mind as we talked was the fact that women make these changes throughout our adult lives. Most of us have tried one or many more than one way to lose weight, from calorie counting to Weight Watchers and everything in between. And he's simply changing what he eats to make himself feel better. My life could have been so much simpler if I had thought that way...
Rebecca: I hear my sister take a drag off her cigarettes during every phone call, and I don't say a word. No smoker will stop until they're ready; I certainly didn't stop until then. You're wise to not pick that battle, I'm sorry though, that her health issues are so worrisome. Glad you had a good call with her.
Tracey: Congrats on lining up the financing, and the dragon is gorgeous. Love the egg... I'm reorganizing my craft room completely tomorrow, and finally putting away the home office. Change is in the hot winds of summer, I guess.
Ah, finally, the eyes are starting to droop. Off to second sleep!
Love y'all,

Yes ... but it's been years since I've seen one.
I suspect they vanished in the last significant update a few years ago.

That's pretty much been my approach. Mostly just little adjustments as needed.
I dropped the 4 kg recently by dropping 1 ice cream and some chocolate ... and exercising a little bit more.

A slow day yesterday, since it was pouring rain most of the day. With the ground now saturated, I will be going out to do some desperately needed flower bed weeding. With the rain and the heat this month, they have really taken over.
I just went grocery shopping yesterday, also something that was desperately needed. For some reason I haven't done any serious shopping for about 3 weeks. I made up for it yesterday, though! In spite of dodging the rain drops, I really did enjoy myself.
I'm afraid I snacked too much last night - way too much - and gained back some of the weight I had lost this week. My shins are already turning black and blue from kicking myself. I have fought depression all my life, currently not taking meds, and this is what happens when I let myself get down. I will not let it happen again tonight. Maybe my battle with the weeds will help with that.
Lanette SW WA state - I have two "hammer toes" on each foot. I am having them surgically straightened, that way I will be able to wear closed shoes in the winter. Somehow, when there is over 12" of snow on the ground, sandals just don't cut it! I wear sandals exclusively in the summer, so the toes are not a problem then. I had bunions removed and two other toes on each foot straightened about 5 years ago. It worked well, and I really noticed a difference, that is why I decided to have the remaining toes done now, just to get it over and done with. A lot of people don't opt for surgery for this problem, but it is impossible to find orthopedic shoes anywhere within 200 miles from where I live, so I decided to take this route. It's just simpler and easier this way. Buying shoes on the internet is not working for me, I'm afraid.
Lisa in AR - Good for you taking care of the poor plants in this weather. A tip I read years ago, when I was living in Tampa, Florida, was to water plants after dark. The water evaporates much less that way, the leaves have a chance to dry off without burning too much, and the water can soak into the ground much more efficiently. I tried it, and it did work for me. Just thought I would pass that along.
That's about all for now. I do enjoy reading all the posts, and will participate more often as time goes by.

You can't smell a skunk if the tail is not up. I learned this one I met one in my yard at night. There was no smell because tail was down. If the tail is up get away fast as possible because they might get ready to spray. If you see one during the day and it is acting strange it may be carrying rabies. Bats and skunks are the most common animals here that are carriers of rabies.
Here it is best to water between 5-10 in the morning especially on the hot days. Watering at night can cause fungal issues. Now that we are on water restrictions working on what and what not to water. Still try to be done by 10 in the morning.2 -
Yesterday we went to an indoor social gathering for the first time since early 2020. I found out several valuable things about myself. I am still good at staying away from the food at these gatherings, I am capable of making small talk, and I don't like sitting around for so long. The conversations we had were pleasant. Jake and the people we talked to said the food was outstanding, and I was thrilled to get home to my familiar surroundings.

Skunks/Racoons/Possums ~ We had a rabid possum in our garage when we bought our first house. I thought it was my Siamese cat until it started hissing at me. My husband came home from the shop and shot it.
Rebecca ~ Hope your middle sister will get the help she needs to feel better.
Lisa ~ So glad your daughter got to Hawaii safely with the children. She must have been exhausted. Sounds like Corey is being wise in watching what he eats before it gets out of control. My husband was skinny our entire married life until he had a heart attack and had to quit smoking. Food took the place of his cigarettes and now he is very over weight.
Machka ~ You sure do know a lot about using the MFP program.
Kayne ~ Hope your toe surgery is successful. I think my MnL had hammer toes on each foot but that was probably because she had been in the big time dance reviews in the 1930’s/40’s.
Barbie ~ Glad you were able to attend the social function and be around other people. But, know you were glad to get back to your usual calm life. I would have been.
Hope Everyone Has a Great Day!

Well my sister and my Dad are off on their trip to Maine for my Aunt's funeral. Packing was a mess because he has never packed his own stuff, my mom has dementia now, and my sister and I don't know what he wants or needs. He didn't get his meds packed until right before they had to leave. He scared us all saying he was out of one of the meds, but we found some. So despite the hiccups, we managed. My anxiety is fading to a more usual mild level. The next thing is to pick him up at the airport on Sunday.
So I am at home with Mom, and it's time to get back to normal diet and exercise. I gained two pounds last week.
Stay cool, my friends!

This has been a tremendously busy week. I almost regret taking 5 days off last weekend!
- My emails at home and work chose this week to sky-rocket for some reason. I could not keep on top of them.
- I had a big report I needed to get done by the end of today - the draft for review. And I made it. Sent at about 5:30 pm.
- I had several smaller reports to squeeze in there. I broke one of my rules about not bringing work home to get one of them done last evening.
- Heaps of reports and documents and things to read.
- And lots of meetings. Including 3 after-work meetings - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- Plus my MRI Wednesday morning.
- Lots of buses this week weren't running. Fortunately mine all came except one which left me standing outside for nearly an hour one evening after dark, in the cold.
- In bed late every night just trying to keep on top of the really important things to do.
Regarding the MRI ...
That was lovely! It was only about 15 minutes, but I dozed right off.
I got some of the results today. The damage from my fall isn't too bad. It's healing and will just take a lot of time and continued rest. However, apparently they found a lot of other "things". The receptionist or nurse who passed on the message wasn't clear about that.
I will be able to read the report myself next week, but I'm suspecting arthritis. I've got arthritis in my feet, my hips, my back, and I think I'm developing it in my hands, so it would not surprise me if I've got it in my knees too.
Noise cancelling headphones ...
One of the 1001 things I did this week was to accompany one of the admin assistants to get me noise cancelling headphones for work.
I love them!!
They are so comfortable and while they don't block the noise entirely, they reduce it to a dull murmur. I work in an open-plan office so there's always noise and chatter around.
And the sound quality is so good. I've been using bargain bin earbuds but these are amazing!
Weekend ...
Planning to spend tomorrow in the garden ... me and the plants.

Time now for a different style and subject.

That is one of the reasons we have an electronic dog door. (don't have a dog right now but for the two we had in the past). They could let themselves in and out when they wanted to but nothing else could come and go.
It was so nice when we first got it as I seemed to be the only one in the house that heard the dog scratching in the middle of the night to go out side to pee.
Same thing happened when son was a newborn. Dh never heard him cry during the night-even when I put Jona right next to him in the bed. He never did get up during the night to feed/change him.
