I don't know her work, but I LOVE "Jax" in Sons of Anarchy! I think he'll do a fine job. Whether or not it'll be a worthwhile movie, I don't know, but I guess we'll see!!0

attention guys- get this book and read your lady or lady of evening a bed time story and thank me later.
Idea generator?
And totally took me back to the abusive relationship I was in when I was 19.
It's like a 101 guide to an unhealthy relationship. Plus she blatantly misused the oxford comma.
And you can get better smut online for free. With correct grammar and less dun-con.
I have never read any part of it nor will but a person who did described the general plot and I said "so it is a book that makes a parody of all the stereotypical bad/stupid choices a woman can make getting into a relationship".
My guess is that it brought something a bit mysterious and perhaps taboo for many into a bit of the mainstream so it was their first real reading of BDSM stuff (disclosure...not my thing but not offended by it) and as such the book was alluring.
You misunderstood or I didn`t say it right...people overlooked that part, abusive, controlling, demeaning because of the other.
The other did not make it that way.
I truly hope there are not very many that believe that power, wealth, excitement = desirable or that they will in some way tame the beast and turn him into Prince Charming.
If they do then they better hope to be the luckiest woman alive or prepare to live a life of misery.0 -

However, I wish what you said was true. Sadly, I've been around the 'Net a lot and seen a lot of what these books' fans have said and a large number of them think Christian's abusive behavior is romantic. It's quite scary.0 -
Guilty. *hangs head in shame*0 -

And BAM, we have another winner of the interwebz! lol
In all seriousness, you're right....on all counts!0 -
I am *SO* glad that a lot of you have pointed out the exact things I came here wanting to say.
I read the series. I literally skipped the "sex" scenes because they were mundane and just..ugh. It is not an accurate picture of a BDSM relationship. It makes me so sad that there are women reading these books and wishing to be in the ABUSIVE relationship between Ana and Christian. There is hardly any consent, and Ana is uncomfortable and not ready for pretty much ANYTHING they do. This book has stirred up a lot of bad publicity for the BDSM community, which I am a part of. It is incredibly frustrating to have a 50 Shades label slapped on you just because you and your partner are kinksters.
That being said- I REALLY want to see 50 Shades! The Musical. It looks like a hysterical parody.0 -

never read the books, don't know the actors, but i have it on good authority that those who are really into BDSM and the kink lifestyle sort of despise the 50 Shades books.
just sayin'.0 -
Like any movie that is based on a book I think there will be controversy as to who they pic, no matter who they are, as when you are reading you create a picture of the character and they will never be able to cast someone who is everyone's version of Christian Grey!0

As a fan of Sons of Anarchy and seeing him butt a** naked on the show a few times, I can definitely see him in this roll. He is sexy and ripped, even is a** is toned lol. A lot of people want Ryan Gosling who is so over rated, apart from a good body, that is it. Ryan's acting isn't up there. This guy has a sexy body and he does a very good job acting wise on SOA0

If my fiance got that book and tried to do any of the garbage in it, I would grab his junk, squeeze it until it turns purple and then deny him action for a year.
IN for CBT and orgasm denial!!!!0 -
Just to let everyone know, there already is an x-rated porn version of 50 Shades of Grey...it was AVN's award winner a year or two back, I believe.
I sell it to A LOT of soccer moms and Mormons in my neighborhood. Yep, spreading kink one white picket fence at a time...
You SELL it? Did you make it..?
I sell adult "toys", videos, equipment, impact toys, and other leather products. The toys I get from a supplier, the leather items I make myself. The videos...well....let's just say that the 50 Shades porn is one I DIDN'T make myself. :blushing:
As for the books...from a literary standpoint, I thought they sucked horribly. The plot was horrible, the characters lacked any real depth or personality development. But who am I kidding? I only read them to see if the sex scenes were any good. I was rather bored with them as they depicted what I would consider a rather vanilla night in my house...
As someone who is very involved in the BDSM lifestyle, I hated how the characters who enjoyed "kinky ****ery" were all depicted as broken, abusive, damaged, and in at least one case, predatory. I understand the need to sensationalize a story to get higher sales, but when this book is the only exposure people get to the incredible world of BDSM, it leads to some horrible misconceptions and unsafe and abusive "re-enactments" of the sex scenes. The vast majority of people I know who are involved in BDSM are incredibly well-adjusted, highly intelligent, and wonderfully generous. I just hope that those who enjoy the BDSM-themed scenes in 50 Shades do some further educational research before incorporating it into their lives. www.fetlife.com can be a wonderful stepping stone into a world that can blow your mind. :flowerforyou:0 -
Not too thrilled, though, he looks yummy from the neck down...all in all, that is what matters most.

I just want to point this out to those saying the book is terribly written:
50 Shades was orginally a piece of Fanfiction based on the Twilight series...now knowing that, did you honestly expect it to be a literary masterpiece?
Don't get me wrong, I agree that the writing is absolutely terrible and the plot is rather redundant, but I don't think it's any worse than a lot of the other garbage that makes it to publication--it's just a lot more mainstream.0 -

I expect any book a major publisher releases to at least have been edited, yes.
I also am disappointed in the publishing industry for putting out a book that:
1.) Is basically plagiarized.
2.) Has no plot.
3.) Is probably the worst writing ever published by a major publishing house.
At LEAST they could have allowed the editor to fix some of the major writing mistakes and inject some plot into it. There are several subplots going on that have great potential that she never develops. I mean, you spend half of book 2 with this Leila chick stalking them and then it's resolved in a single, easy scene with no real danger to the main characters. She handles Jack Hyde the same way. What's really sad is that in the hands of a GOOD writer, these could actually have been good books.0 -

Totally agree that in the right hands these books could have been decent.
But in this case, the publishers had no incentive to try to improve the quality of the material.
1) The author already had a large fanbase in the fanfiction community which means there was already a large market when the book was published.
2) Because the book was developed from Twilight Fanfiction, they could market the 50 Shades trilogy with that information and the Twilight fanbase (which is huge and a little militant about supporting anything to do with the fandom) would come along for the ride. Not to mention that group has already proven themselves to be less than discerning when it comes to literary content.
I think you're absolutely right that a publisher SHOULD make an effort to correct basic literary mistakes and force the author to rethink plot and character flaws. But in this case, they saw the material as a quick and easy way to make a boatload of money--which they did. They didn't put the time and man-hours into editing and developing the material because they knew the books would sell without that.0 -
If this ruins SOA for me I'll be very disapointed.0

I know I'm expecting way too much, but I see 50 Shades as the equivalent of The Met hanging a 3-year-old's scribble on the wall and calling it art because Tom Cruise's kid drew it, ya know?
There used to be at least SOME quality control in the publishing industry -- at least the major houses.0 -

just sayin'.
Not to mention you can get way better women porn for free just by doing a google search. I didn't read it even though all of my friends did... especially after hearing it was fanfiction of Twilight... And usually at a better quality.0 -

Not happy, hoping I will be pleasantly surprised, and dont think it will be that great anyway (I will probably see it, though!)0

screw 50 shades....im upset that SAMCRO let him go do such a rubbish movie :grumble:0

I LOVE Charlie Hunnam and I am super disappointed that he is doing this movie, since it's crap. I guess every good actor needs at least a few total faceplants in their careers.0

I'm quite looking forward to the dramatisation of this book:

I win. Plot summary of 50 shades of grey in a gif
the end.
oh. p.s. dumbledore dies0 -
I don't think Charlie has the clean, sophisocated look that I pictured Christian having. He's too rough and grizzly (not that ANYTHING is wrong with that! I love SOA)...Was hoping for Matt Bomer.0
