Try the 'lifestyle' treadmill. They give you a video scene to simulate a running route. Where did it give me? A busy city centre with lots of people about. At one point I was even running between the tables of a street cafe. I felt like such an **** I was tempted to stop!
That cake is amazing @polskagirl01 !
It might be to hot to run today... we'll see!

Went on an easy 7km run this morning. Nothing exciting, except that the summer has decided to join us again this week, which means less slug dodging .
You cake turned out nicely @polskagirl01! I hope you had a fun party!
@martaindale Safe travels! I hope you have a great and enjoyable race!
@chris_in_cal Sorry to hear about the jury duty. That sucks! 3 weeks is a long time!
So far for September I have run 44.7/160km4 -
tarun_yadavA wrote: »@polskagirl01 cake looks great... What's the filling??? Walk is through it all... Lol
Everyone seemed to like it. The edible paper made it hard to cut. But after the party, my daughter took all of the remaining pieces off and ate them, so I was able to cut the leftover cake into pieces, which I individually wrapped and put in the freezer. I realized my daughter's Snickers-flavored birthday cake is also in there from before our summer trip, packaged the same way. This is dangerous information.
@Teresa502 the actual birthday was earlier in the week, but school started Monday and he wanted to give his friends a few days notice. I'm so sorry about your sister. I have dear friends who lost a son at about that age (his birthday was the same as my son's, would've been 48 this year). Doesn't matter how many years go by, that's a pain that never goes away.
Also this thing was at the party. He's remote controlled. Grandma had given this to him when we were in the States, and it got assembled today. Apparently the one she bought for my nephews lasted a really long time.@tarun_yadavA the saying I grew up with is similar: "everyone and their mother"
@chris_in_cal sorry for your 3 week sentence on jury duty. I've been lucky the last several times I've been called the lawyers settle the case the night before and I didn't even have to show up 😄
Everyone and their mom is the one I know, too.
Speaking of learning from @tarun_yadavA, what is up with the beans that Brits supposedly put on toast or eat for breakfast? My husband makes these American-style beans with little bits of bacon/pork, onion, brown sugar and I'm not sure what else. I like them (had some today), but still wouldn't consider them breakfast food. And for all I know, they might be an abomination to your beans. So enlighten us 🙂 Or wait. Please "spill the beans".6 -
@polskagirl01 The cake looks great and sounds delicious!
@chris_in_cal Ouch, 3 weeks! That's quite a case. I've only had to appear for jury duty once and I got selected. My trial was 1 week plus a Monday.2 -
martaindale wrote: »@chris_in_cal Ouch, 3 weeks! That's quite a case.
A big civil trial, they say I can't spill the beans until after we have deliberated.
I am officially on, and it officially started today.5 -
Great running @Teresa502 ! I'm glad you got out in between the storms. We just got a tiny shower last night. Also sorry about your sister. It's hard to lose someone you love that young.tarun_yadavA wrote: »If it's random English sayings and odd things eaten in neighbouring states like Alabama White Sauce - then I'm your guy! Haha
Great running @Laurz9191 !
@polskagirl01 Love the remote controlled shark, but it could cause some serious stress in the middle of the night. Sounds like your DH is making a version of baked beans? I wouldn't consider them a breakfast food either. Love the description of your cake and it sounds delicious.

18.75/80 mile goal
I had planned on a cross training walk today since I was supposed to play tennis tonight. Tennis was cancelled, but I just really really tired today, so much so that mom told me I looked tired. So, I stuck with the walk after I got home from 6 hours with eight 3-4 year olds. LOL They are actually a pretty good group so as easy as watching after 8 toddlers can be. I'm counting it as following the plan since yesterday's workout was either a foundation run or cross training.7 -
@polskagirl01 the cake looks great, and your description makes it sound yummy 😋
Did an easy 7 TM miles after work today.

I can say thank goodness the daylight is less and the sun is at more of an angle but dang this last gasp of over 100 is tough. Daily warnings/requests from ERCOT (energy company) to conserve at peak hrs. I heard someone say because the daylight is less that the solar energy is less but to me I think it's just too hot for the grid. I do my best to keep my house at 80 and today I even bumped it up to 81 all afternoon. Next week supposed to actually have some mornings in the 60s which will be nice.
Still doing OK on the goal of 100 miles this month. This morning my friggin back (which I banged on something in the garage about a week ago) is flaring up and it's annoying as heck esp when I get pins and needles in my leg/foot but luckily I can get relief without major drugs and using an ice pack so there is that. Backs just take WAY too long to get better and it's never linear with injuries.
AS far as toes. As long as you KNOW you clomped it I agree on the doc visit being a total waste. If you had not done injury it would have been wise perhaps as sometimes other things show up symptomatically like gout in the toes.
The Jury trial sounds interesting Chris. Civil might be a little more boring and why it's at trial is a little strange but criminal can be creepy.
Trying to check in more frequently but it's hard to keep up with everybody and I hate leaving anyone out so sometimes I just don't post. But I so do enjoy reading everyone's adventures and seeing everyone's pictures.
My year to date mileage matches a couple months of Alphahowls... but I am proud of going over 1k running miles. I won't make RTY in running miles but I might make it with the intentional walk ones.

September goal: 100 miles
9/1: 4 miles (41:44)
9/2: 4 miles (40:48)
9/3: 4 miles (41:30)
9/4: 3 miles (28:55)
9/6: 4 miles (41:14)
9/7: 4 miles (40:18)
Total: 23/100 miles completed
I'm still continuing to adjust my diet to fuel my evening runs, but I think I'm on the right track. I've been moving some of my calories later in the day which seems to help.

Morning all
I got another 10K in (09"32).
@polskagirl01 shark looks fun! Lol
Beans - not a fan. If *IF* ever I eat a 'full English' (Americans - think Lumberjack Slam at Denny's type thing)... I always ask for the Beans to be taken off and ask for a different non-meat substitute like more mushrooms or potatoes.
I think it's kinda like a grits type sitch in the South. Not ingredients. But a wet thing on your breakfast plate. You either love it or hate it. Count me as latter!
@Laurz9191 happy birthday!! Lucky you! A weekend too!
Plans?
Few steins of beer? One of which gets time -chugged? Jaeger bomb if you fail? And then end up drinking a few jaegers anyway. Haha!
I'm sure you're more civilized than me! Lol
Have a great day.
Happy Friday!6 -
@SummerSkier hope there's no gout in the foot 🤞🙏0

Hello everyone,
Today I felt like doing something special for my birthday, so I decided to go find some hills to run up and down. That is what I did and it was fun. Honestly. There aren’t many big big hills that are within a short driving distance, so I only got 135 meters elevation, but still, definitely not flat .
Today’s run was 7.1km, so 51.8/160km for September.11 -
Happy birthday @Laurz9191!!
Re: full English breakfast Convo above. I was never brave enough to try the beans with breakfast in England. I grew up on southern baked beans and in my head that's what those beans taste like and that flavor would be so wrong with breakfast. I have no idea if the English beans have anything close to the same flavor but I couldn't make myself try it.SummerSkier wrote: »Daily warnings/requests from ERCOT (energy company) to conserve at peak hrs. As a fellow ercot sufferer I've been getting those warnings too. The solar thing sounds like a lazy excuse to forgive a bad grid that hasn't been fixed. It's been this hot all over the south. Other grids aren't straining under the weight of the hot summer. You're a better citizen than I. Our house is still at 74F. I'm not sweating inside my house because our grid sucks! 🤠5 -
September 1 – 5.17 miles
September 2 – 8.03 miles (5 road/3 trail)
September 4 – 9.01 miles (trail)
September 5 – 5.01 miles
September 7 – 5.24 miles
September 8 – 7.02 miles
Total 39.48 miles/ Goal 85 miles
It was a nice 66F and not as humid as yesterday morning. I ran 7 miles. I parked at my office and ran the first 3 miles on the corporate campus before venturing out on the city streets. I’m not a fan of the daylight getting shorter already.
Not a fan of those beans for breakfast either.
Happy Birthday @Laurz9191! Party on!

Sept total: 22.2/100 miles
9/2: 8 miles
9/4: 4.3 miles
9/5: 3 miles
9/6: 3.9 miles
9/8: 3 miles
Found a loop around my hotel that was exactly 3 miles so did that for a little shakeout this morning.
It stormed last night with huge streaks of lightening and a fair bit of rain. The setup for the race and the start/finish are in a field so I'm not sure how that's going to be. It's supposed to rain again tonight. I ran into one of the organizers while I was getting breakfast and he said it's not bad right now. Apparently it had been pretty dry, so plenty of room to take a little water. Fingers crossed it holds up.
They hold a 5k and pasta dinner tonight. I almost signed up for the 5k too but opted out because it was in the evening and I wasn't sure about the turnaround. I don't generally like to run in the evening then the following morning. Now I'm glad I didn't because if it storms and there is lightning, it could get cancelled. But I'm planning on going to the pasta dinner.

@SummerSkier You're running total is amazing! That heat sounds awful! I do hope it cools off for you as forecast next week. I hope your back feels better soon too. Those pins and needles feelings are disconcerting.
@Zaxa2021 Sounds like you are honing in on your sweet spot for food and running. You're doing great.
Happy Birthday @Laurz9191 ! Great birthday run!tarun_yadavA wrote: »I think it's kinda like a grits type sitch in the South. Not ingredients. But a wet thing on your breakfast plate.
Great running, btw.
Great morning run @Teresa502 !
@martaindale Enjoy the pasta dinner. I hope the start of the HM isn't too we in the morning. I wouldn't want to run that far with wet feet. I know that is normal for you trail runners, but "I ain't one."

Good luck in the race! Looks like it will not be cool, let's hope it's dry.3 -
@quilteryoyo thank you! 😊
Have tried grits a couple of times - nah. not for me.
@martaindale nope - nothing like Southern beans; nothing like Mexican frijoles... ours are almost sweet, runny tomato ketchup-y (for lack of better adjectives). I don't like. At all.
Weird. Cos UK has such great restaurants and great chefs... but British comfort food is widely associated as British food... and for me, British comfort food is gross 🤢.
Fish and chips aside... gross 🤢. Shepherd pie, beans on toast, jacket potato (a baked potato with butter, grated cheese as optional, then baked beans allover it). Double yuck.4 -
@Laurz9191 Happy Birthday!
@tarun_yadavA I hear you on the beans. I'm not from the US south, but I do occasionally like grits. I call them a butter & salt delivery system.
@quilteryoyo yes, my husband basically made a quick stove-top version of baked beans.
Today I made a sign and bought a light-weight folding chair so I can cheer on the run club tomorrow at the 10k in our city.9 -
@Laurz9191 Happy Birthday! 🎂 🎉🎈🥳 Celebrating like a true runner!
@martaindale good call on the 5K. Enjoy the pasta dinner. Hope it isn't too wet for your race. Good Luck!!

Right lower leg and top of foot started to hurt again. I wonder if it has something to do with the small country road I run on as it's a lot worse where the side of the road slipped down quite a bit. I can only run against the traffic so I see those crazy drivers that don't pay attention, and the right side is always a bit higher then left. I'm also running too fast from the start. Need to slow down.7 -

21.25/80 mile goal
My day didn't go as planned, but I got a lot done and burned a lot of calories.
A friend texted me early this morning to see if I wanted to play tennis. I thought about it a bit, since I did have other things planned, but decided to play. We are really close to each other in level, as is attested to by the fact that we only played one set and quit at 9-9. The temp was only 73F (22.2 C), and partly cloudy, so wasn't too hot.
When I got home, I decided to go ahead and get in my run/walk/wun on the driveway. I couldn't decide exactly what to do. The plan called for a Foundation Run or cross training. Since I had already played tennis, I decided to do a recovery run - all with HR in Zone 1. I tried to keep my HR under 130 and was successful for about 20 min, but the HR creep snuck in and it was over for about 10 min. I ran 31:06 min and 2.10 miles. The avg pace was 14:48 min/mile. I debated on whether to call it a run or a walk at that pace, but since I was doing a recovery run (with walking to keep the HR down) I chose to call it a run. Avg HR was 126 with a max of 135 bpm. Since I had just played tennis, I didn't do a warm up walk, but did walk 0.4 miles to cool down.
I rested a few minutes, and then went out to do some mowing. I did a little over half of it - mostly the part that people can see from the road. I also blew leaves off of the porches.
I rested some more, and then cleaned the gutters because they were calling for rain/storms tonight. It just started raining as I was typing this, so I did good. Now I'm doing laundry. All of my exercise bras are dirty.5 -
@polskagirl01 I'm sure your run club will appreciate your efforts! Have fun!
@yirara I wouldn't call the run a fail. You ran. You made it home. That's a win. I am sorry that your leg and foot are hurting. Do you need new shoes? Can you run and out and back that might let you have equal time with one leg being higher than the other? I hope you figure it out and it doesn't get worse before it gets better.
@chris_in_cal I run against traffic when I am on the country road too. I have found that the crazy drivers can see me easier if I run closer to the middle of the road (there isn't a lot of traffic) and make sure I am seen before moving over into the other lane or getting off the road. Even if I wear my headphones, I also make sure I can hear traffic. I would never run with traffic on these crooked roads. That would be so dangerous.
You're doing great @___Tams___ !

@quilteryoyo you never cease to amaze me how active you always are. I get tired just reading about all the work/activities you do in a day!
Did an easy 6 TM miles after work.

Bugs are rare in San Diego...I guess now is their time. Disgusting!
September Running Goal: 17 runs, 65 miles- Sep 1 - 4.95 miles

9/7: 6.26 miles
9/8: 3.15 miles
41.42/130 miles completed for September
I didn't post yesterday, but I did run. Yesterday I ran 6.25 miles and today I ran 3.15. It was hot both days and mostly uneventful. I did see a fox yesterday but that was about it. We are supposed to have some cooler weather next week.
I'm sorry about your sister @teresa502.
That cake looks awesome @polskagirl01
Happy Birthday @laurz9191!
Good luck on your HM @martaindale!
@quilteryoyo I think you may be the most active person I know! You are amazing!

Yes, this! Running against the traffic is the only safe way to run here, and there's quite a lot of traffic thus I have to stay near the edge, meaning I'll have to run on a sloping bit of road with the right leg always being higher than the left one. Because on the way back I'm of course running on the other side of the road where the same repeats.2 -
Morning everyone!!
Oooohhh it is freakishly hot out there today!
Got in 5.15 (09"14)... now gonna stay indoors all day and watch TV! (Side note- started this series called 'Black bird' [on Apple] ... so so grim! So will finish that today!)
Have a nice weekend all.
