79.0/80 mile goal
I worked all day today. It was a bit rough with the full moon and 8 two and three year olds who are mostly in the "no" stage...my least favorite stage of development I think.
When I got home I went out and did yesterday's scheduled Hill Repeats on the driveway. My one hill is almost exactly the right distance for 30 sec speed runs. I did 5 min Zone 1, 5 min Zone 2, 8x(30 sec zone 5/90 sec recovery walk), 5 min zone 1. It wasn't too bad. I like hill repeats because I feel like I am bada$$, but only for 30 seconds at a time.Overall, the run was slow, as expected with the recovery walks. But, the hill speedy parts averaged 11:18 min/mile. Not as fast as I felt I was running, but not horrible either.

The moon was lovely again this morning, but it was warmer than yesterday, so still not feeling like fall. But it was a nice enough run. I ran 3.25 miles. I am over my goal for September, and tomorrow is the last day of the streak challenge so I am planning at least one more run.7 -

Got in a 5Miler (10"20). Rested yesterday as a precautionary measure. Wore these chunky Nike Airs today instead. Suspect it was definitely the change in shoe.
Do need to revert back to the specific ASICS I had before.
@quilteryoyo that's amazing what you do for your cousin! ❤️
@Laurz9191 brunch. evil. That is all.

@SummerSkier nice shoes! 😊

Had to loop back around the block because I forgot my hat, then made a few detours when I saw a sprinkler in the distance off my route. So ended up doing 14 miles. It wasn't awful when I started at 73F, but it was 82F when I finished. Come on fall!
So that finishes September with 202.6 miles.8 -

Long run Saturday on the Spring Creek greenway trail. It was low 70’s when I started but probably over 80 by the time I finished. I tried a different fuel today - untapped. It’s maple syrup, this one also had some ginger and electrolytes. It was on clearance and I had been curious. Verdict: it does the job but it’s too sweet. I don’t usually find gels to be too sweet while I’m running. I need the calories and the sweetness level is usually fine. But straight up maple syrup is crazy sweet and the consistency is odd by itself. I tried it and will cross it off my list. I can see the benefit for people who have really sensitive stomachs but I can tolerate other things that I prefer.5 -
Good work everyone. Lots of goals being met and good running happening! See y’all in October!4

Didn't feel like running today, until I did. Had quite a lot of fun today. Still a bit too fast, but I didn't wreck myself. First time since starting to run again that I ran 1.5km without having to walk. I'm sure I can run further if I s-l-o-w down.8 -
Wow! I'm impressed @Scott6255 ! That's a lot of miles. I do hope you get fall weather soon.
Congrats on meeting your goal @___Tams___ ! Did you meet your fundraising goal too?
Great running @Mari33a ! Congrats on meeting your goal!
Very impressive mileage @AlphaHowls !
Yeah us @SummerSkier .
Great running @martaindale ! I love that you try new fueling on your runs. I really should. I didn't fuel at all today and only drank a bit of water after the first 1.3 miles. Maybe that's why I had to cut it short.
Nice running @yirara !

86.0/80 mile goal
I did my long run today, sort of. It was supposed to be 8 miles. Since I haven't gotten any long runs in for a while I was planning on 7 and walking one, unless I was feeling like running 8. My goal was to keep my HR under 140 bpm. I did pretty good at that, walking when I needed to to get it down. It was only above 140 for about a minute total. At about the 4.8 mile point, my tummy started really bothering me and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to go on. I stopped for a couple of minutes to re-evaluate. I started feeling some better, but decided to cut it short and run 6 miles, stopping at mom's, and then doing my cool down walk home. So, that is what I did. I'm glad that was the decision I made. My legs were getting tired by the end of the six. My splits were not bad for me and that HR: 13:45, 13:19, 13:07, 13:42, 13:22, and 13:09. Avg HR was 130 with a max of 144 bpm. Temps were great, but the sun was beaming down. It was 64F (17.8C) when I started and 74F (23.3C) at the end.
I made my goal with a little to spare this month. Besides the running and walking, I did 14h37m57s of other exercise, i.e., tennis and mowing or leaves. That totaled another 10.83 plus miles.5 -
I have been away for a few days and was so far behind. I did read through all the posts and will respond to some.
@chris_in_cal - you're on for next year! I just have to get my endurance back up between January and December!
@tarun_yadavA - there have been a few meetups over the years, some including running and some not. @swenson19d, who isn't able to run any longer, and her husband went to Hawaii and met up with @HonuNui for a team race up one of the volcanos there. I also met @swenson19d in Dallas when I was there for work. I have met another runner IRL, @ddmom0811, in Florida when we were there when our daughter had a conference (any excuse right 😁). I believe @7lenny7 has met up with a few different MFP friends too but I could be wrong.
Too bad I didn't know your brother was in Pleasanton. We had friends there that we visited regularly especially when we were traveling up and down the state. I had some great running routes plotted out there. Unfortunately our friends have moved to Oregon.
India - I have not been. When I was working I always hoped they would send me so I could meet some of the team there in person. I had a great team there! Good luck getting the family to agree on what to go see there 😂
@Laurz9191 - I hope the overnight hike/camping trip goes well. Sounds like it should be fun!
@SummerSkier - I love how bright your new shoes are! When Skora shoes existed I had a pair in similar colors as well as a pair bright lime green and neon yellow!
@martaindale - I don't remember who it was but someone on here used to use diluted maple syrup. Was it maybe PastorVincent? I am not a GU fan in any flavor. They all seem too sweet and sticky.
So the other day at the medical center I was behind a lady waiting to check in. I was pretty sure she was a runner based on the running hat on her bald head and her Oiselle running shirt and capris. I asked and she said she was but was a walker now. Ends up she has just 2 more treatments, that day and one in October. She is entered in 4 races in the spring and will run/walk the Surf City HM in February. She is a marathoner who is hoping to BQ in one of the races this spring! I was so impressed and inspired. Yes, she is much younger than me and I was never close to running BQ times but still it is amazing to see that even after everything you can get out there and still run!
I got out this morning for a good walk with Hobbes. We did 2.65mi bringing my total to 27mi to wrap up the month and hitting my goal of 25 miles.7 -

@chris_in_cal - I hope you were able to just let the lack of your Garmin go and enjoy running the race 'naked'. I didn't realize that the race was tonight. I was thinking it would be in the morning. Hope you had fun and are staying up in LA afterwards!4 -
Good luck on ur race @chris_in_cal!

I was curious about a "night" race but it was actually nice. The idea was it can be hot, so a sunset start with an (almost) full moon.
Turns out IT RAINED in Los Angeles today, in September, it was blustery, cloudy, cool, and light rain. I thought I'd be cold.
When the race started, the wind stopped. The moon came out, and it probably warmed up a little. It was nice. I ran the whole thing.
Three week taper by staying in bed and being sick isn't recommended.

Congratulations @Zaxa2021 on the 100 miles!
Congratulations @chris_in_cal ! Awesome race, esp. considering that you have been sick for 3 weeks! Glad the weather improved and it was a pleasant race.
@shanaber I miss @HonuNui and her pictures too. I wasn't sure where she lived and had thought of her when the fires over there was big news. Was she in that area?1 -
Good job @chris_in_cal! It's tough heading into a race when you are still recovering from an illness.2

Congratulations @chris_in_cal! You did awesome! Couldn't imagine running a race coming off a 3 week illness. You are a beast 💪5

Congratulations @chris_in_cal!!! Yes it rained here too yesterday morning when I was walking and again off and on in the afternoon/evening. So glad you had a good race, ran the entire time and had a good finish!
@Zaxa2021 - congratulations on hitting your goal!
@quilteryoyo - @HonuNui lives on the Big Island so no, the fires wouldn't affect her directly.
@___Tams___ - congratulations on hitting your goal and raising money for the children's hospital!5 -
