Morning everyone!
Got in 5Miles (09"00).
Slept in a bit today
@AlphaHowls just plain wow on ~4years of consecutive daily Half marathons!
As for us mere mortals... there's me whooping about 51 in a row lol
Anyhoo...
@kgirlhart well done on nearing goal and doing 22 days straight! 🙌
Oh sticking with sweet tooth stuff...
I had a ginormous piece of Tres Leches 🍰 last night.... sooooo good8 -
@alphahowls I love the cat stalking the dog display! The store worker there has a good sense of humor.
@chris_in_cal @tarun_yadavA My husband is watching only murders in the building right now too. He says it’s really funny.
@polskagirl01 The butternut squash is looking good! I have a small garden here but have never planted anything squashy because they take up so much space. But I really enjoy squashes and homegrown ones taste so much better!
@Teresa502 Have fun camping and hiking. The smokies are on my short list of places I want to hike/camp. Pictures of that are look beautiful!6 -

Never got around to posting yesterday’s run. Just a short one before work. Another sweatfest. It seems like you shouldn’t be dripping after 3 miles, but alas. I also went to Pilates after work. It was a really good class. I like that instructor and the class was more evenly balanced between arms, core, and legs. Some of the classes do a lot of core and legs and just a bit of arms. But I want the arm and back workout. I’m all about the vanity muscles!
@chris_in_cal Yeah, I wish I didn’t know it was getting cooler in CA while it’s warmer here. You guys already had the better weather! I deal with the 8 months of hot humidity for the bliss of those 4 months of cool mornings!4 -
@TheMrWobbly Sorry the boat trip had it's down side. The dog does look very happy. Great pictures. Good luck getting back into the running groove.
Great run @Scott6255 . Soon we'll be complaining about the cold. Hang in there.
Enjoy your hiking @Teresa502 ! I look forward to the pictures.
Great running @kgirlhart ! I hope the lady keeps better watch on her dogs.
I'm sorry you have felt so bad @polskagirl01 ! Hopefully you are over the hump. I'm glad that you defeated the slugs! The squash looks like it is doing great.
Great running and funny pictures @AlphaHowls !

Yeah you're right @quilteryoyo, I have no doubt we will be complaining about the cold soon. But I looked at the 10 day forecast and still calling for 70s in the morning and 90s during the day into October 🥵
Got in 10.5 miles this morning before giving up.It was 80F, feels like temp of 88F. Just plain sad

I have always loved Steve Martin. Ever since his cat toy routine..... 🤣😂🤣 I didn't know another season was on yet. Currently watching the Network News show on Apple TV which also has a new season.
Today for the first day of fall was a bit of a slodge run.💦💦💦💦💦💦💦 I must have lost 2 pounds of sweat. My running twin turns 65 today (internet friend) and so I challenged her to do the 6.5 miles in 65 today but she texted that the weather was SO nice in the 50's that she did 7. So... I couldn't let her show me up and 7 it was. I really don't know why my watch has me so slow these days. Barely breaking 12 min miles. It used to be I only saw those when I was injured and running anyway. Fitbit seems more realistic altho it told me I ran 7.5 miles so it's probably somewhere between. I should get a garmin for a tiebreaker. 🤣🧐🫤
Goal of 100 miles for the month and up to 97.14 as of today so should be doable. As Scott says we are supposed to get some cooler morning temps next week - in the 60's maybe so perhaps it will be more enjoyable. I mean I like a good sweat purge type run to feel like I have really worked but I think we have had our share this summer already.7 -
@Scott6255 I don't blame you for cutting it "short" today. Those temps are horrible.
Great running @SummerSkier ! Where does your friend live that she had temps in the 50's today?2 -

63.10/80 mile goal
Looks like I haven't posted my activity since Tuesday.
Wed I worked and ran some errands, so didn't get a chance to do anything until after church, so I just walked one mile on the treadmill.
Thursday, I did my scheduled Speed Play run on the driveway. The "speed" play was 5 x (1/2 min in Zones 5 and 1). I was pleased that the speed minutes averaged 10:29 min/mile....all were pretty much the same - even the one that was mostly up hill!
Yesterday I did health screenings (took blood pressures) at another school. I was tired when I got home - hadn't slept well for a couple of nights. So, after a nap, I did a wun on the driveway. I called that cross training, which is allowed on the plan.
Today didn't go as planned, but turned out okay in the end. I had sold my neighbor my old DR Field and Brush Mower. It's a walk behind, self propelled machine. I "walked" it over to his house this morning. I counted that as "mowing" so I could count the 0.73 miles as part of my run the year total, but it wasn't fast enough to count for my monthly total here. The DR top speed is apparently 2.7 mph. LOL
Afterwards, the neighbor and I went down and helped mom dig around a leaking frost free faucet in her yard. I think we found the issue and will get it fixed next week.
I was tired and in a mood when I got home, so rested a bit and then went out for a Foundation type run on the driveway. Today was supposed to be a 6 mile Long Run. I just didn't have it in me to even try. I walked a total of 1.25 miles for warm up and cool down and ran 2.25 miles. I tried to keep my HR under 140 bpm, but even with a lot of walking the avg was 137 with a max of 150 bpm.
Later, the same neighbor asked me over to try out some Brie chees he bought. I decided to walk over, to get some extra miles in. Walking over and back was 1.50 miles and I did it at 3.7 mph, so counts! LOL
Counting everything, my day total was 5.73 miles. That's pretty close to the 6 I was supposed to run.4 -

Morning all
Got in 7 miles (09"11)... and brought up 1000 for the year! New shoes too!
Have a lovely Sunday everyone!
I have two episodes of 'Only Murders In the building' to get stuck into later...
@martaindale you should totally get into it Sarah!
@SummerSkier well done on closing in on the goal 🙌
@quilteryoyo (in Homer Simpson voice) Mmmmm Brie 🤤7 -
Busy doing crazy stuff as usual, including almost 6 hours of crawling up mountains, fighting panic on steep downhill stretches with loose dirt and stones, learning that my new chest lamp is cool on roads or wide, non-technical trails but sucks on steep hills or narrow tracks because turning my head doesn't allow me to see where I need to go, and discovering that snarling dogs on the other sides of fences sound like they're RIGHT behind you and about to take a bite out of your backside, all in the dark. Isn't that what everyone does on a Friday night?
Next weekend I'm going to a 'trail camp' with a bunch of workshops, should be good.
@quilteryoyo I, too, would happily walk for brie10 -
@eleanorhawkins You are AMAZING! That sounds like a bit of a scary Friday night. At least you now know to not wear the chest lamp for your race. I don't know how you do it. Enjoy your trail camp next week. Sounds interesting. Will there be lots of running or mostly talking?
Hugs to you @___Tams___ . Hopefully you can get some other donations before the month is over. I know it can be frustrating. I ran for Relay For Life for a few years...as a fundraiser. I asked all of my FB friends to donate. Some years I got a better response than others, but I kept putting my mileage out there at least once a week and asked for donations again...with the total I had raised so far. If you aren't doing that, maybe it would help. If nothing else, at least you are getting the word out about the charity.7 -

I got out the door at 7:44 this morning. It was so hot. I ran 11 miles. It wasn't a bad run, but it was tough. I felt more tired after today's run than I did last week after 14 miles. 66°F at the start 77°F at the end is so much better than 80°F at the start and 88° feels like 91°at the end.

Morning everyone!
Nice pleasant day in London today! Got in 4.68 (09"19).
Have potentially 16 more runs before I go away again. (India, for 2+ weeks, - a country even more ill-suited to outdoor running than both Mexico and South Africa. Combined. [wow. South Africa It's been a year since I've been here on this forum] ).
Other news -
Belt buckle is back upto 5, but ever so slight 'muffin top' on some shirts, when tucked in, when I'm sitting down. So hoping to rectify that over next 2weeks! Lol
@Teresa502 loving your pics!
@__Tams__ well done on getting a 5K done when you weren't feeling like it!
Sorry the fundraising isn't going to plan!
Do you have a justgiving page?8 -

Not heard of that Turkish one... Netflix/prime?
Currently on 'Only Murders in the Building' S3 (think that's Hulu for you guys in the US). Love, love, LOVE it. Grew up on the humour of Steve Martin - so nostalgic a little. And he's still got it. Selena Gomez bounces off him/Martin short really well too. Not to mention all the great cameos... Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep etc etc.
Before that... binged 'Black Bird' in 24 hours. Undercover serial killer stuff based on a true story. So so grim but so so good.
@polskagirl01 ps: yes, you are an ice-cream snob! LolBut it's really long and a couple of the themes/conflicts are starting to get old. Maybe I had too big of a dose at one time. Because of the subtitles, it's hard to watch passively while doing anything else. It's still very well-done, with character development, subtle foreshadowing, symbolism, etc. From a historical/cultural standpoint I'm clueless about how things actually were, but I am not convinced any of those women really had *this* much of a voice in their lives. The point does come across that it sucked to be most people during the Ottoman Empire. And a psychologist would probably give some interesting analysis, as there's a good bit of Stockholm syndrome going on, PTSD on overdrive and some unhealthy but entertaining coping mechanisms, among other things. Are they glorifying an abusive system though? Is this what I want to fill my brain with? Maybe. I'm still sick. Entire head feels clogged. It feels like the cold is on its way out, but it sure is taking its time.
Thanks for all of the well-wishes for the Squash Army. Slugs have retreated, we got some rain and some sun over the weekend, and I hadn't been out in a few days, so I definitely noticed growth on the latecomer baby squashes. Someone has got a bigger pumpkin patch we pass on the way to town that I've been eyeing jealously though, and I may be making plans to expand my empire next year 😁
No running, hardly even walking, but keeping up with the hydration etc, and found that something about the acupressure torture mat helps with the congestion. I did get out of bed this morning and added some brighter colors to my painting that I guess wasn't finished after all... looking at it now, I still don't like it and will likely try to fix it again soon.

Hi everyone! After another two recovery days, I went on a nice 11.5km run this morning. Nothing of note. It was a nice run in fall weather. I really am sorry to hear that it is still so hot in Texas. I hope it cools down soon!
Yesterday I watched the last hour and a half of the Berlin marathon (yes, what runners do for fun…). I was so inspired watching Tigst Assefa smashing the women’s world record by over two minutes. She looked so relaxed and chill the whole time she was running and she was passing all of these world class elite men. It was just awesome.
Anyways, I’ve reached my monthly goal now with 162.6/160km. There’s still a few days left in September, so I think I might make it to 180.7 -

I read a short article about that yesterday. So crazy! A 2 minute drop at that level is so rare. I would love to look as relaxed as some of those elite runners do while exerting that hard. Even when I feel relaxed, I see race photos and I def don't look it!6 -

Did my long run yesterday instead of Saturday because I had to work Sat morning. Like my fellow Texans have mentioned, it was summer level hot again. I did a test run on another skirt I bought for a costume. I really liked it, maybe even better than the first one. The waist is looser than ideal for me but it has a drawstring, and ultimately stayed put. The thigh pockets work great but I would probably reserve the back waist pocket for lightweight items only.6 -
Yep, Texas is STILL waiting for fall to arrive. Did 6.2 hot/humid miles this morning. It was dark, and I ran into a fallen tree branch that laying across the sidewalk. Cut up my shins pretty good 😫

@Scott6255 that storm yesterday was FRIGGIN crazy. It skirted just about a mile east of my house but it was HUGE and there were reports of tennis ball size hail. The winds straight line from it were outrageous also. I feel blessed not to have gotten the hail. And in other wierd stuff half of my neighborhood lost there power but only half of it. So lights work but not AC. Lived here 30 plus years and have never had a brown outage like that. Usually it ALL or nothing. I lost power for a few minutes but got it back also.4
-
Great running @tarun_yadavA . Had to laugh at the description of the body part you want to reduce. Aren't you glad you found this group a year ago?! I know we are glad you did. I hope you enjoy your trip to India.
@polskagirl01 I hope you start feeling better soon. A bad cold on top of everything else is tough.
Great running and congrats on meeting your goal already @Laurz9191 .
Great running @martaindale .
Oh no @Scott6255 ! That sounds painful.
That is very odd @SummerSkier about the power. Anyway, I'm glad the heart of the storm missed you.2 -

Great news!
@SummerSkier @Scott6255 We have rain forecasted today. I guess remnants of the storm that already hit y’all. They gave us a hail warning too, but those rarely materialize here. Mostly we should just get some welcome rain.5 -

It was too gross this morning so I did a treadmill run (ifit - beach in Portugal). The best thing about the treadmill is how much easier it is for me to slow down. When combined with the a/c, it makes for a true recovery run.4 -
We had great hiking and camping weather this weekend. It was a little windy during the night and morning hours but perfect for hiking the Smoky Mountains. Since it’s not running related, details and pictures are in the spoiler for anyone interested. I decided to give my legs a break today although my morning strength workout had some squats and lunges in them. Back to running tomorrow. My friend and I stayed in Gatlinburg, Tennessee Thursday night and met out shuttle driver at 6:30 on Friday morning at the Newfound Gap parking lot which was a 30-minute drive from Gatlinburg. (The Great Smoky Mountain National Park instituted a new policy this year that any visitors parking anywhere in the park must purchase an annual parking permit. Even then, you aren’t guaranteed to have a parking space – first come, first serve). Our shuttle driver drove us an hour and a half to the Fontana Dam Marina. We got on the trail around 8:00 am and hiked 16.64 miles (elevation gain 5,092 feet) to our shelter for the night. You are not allowed to tent camp along the Appalachian Trail in the park but must stay in one of the shelters. You are also required to have a permit for the specific shelter that you plan to stay at, so no just hiking until you feel like stopping. They have a ridge runner who patrols the trail, checks on permits, educates hikers about the leave no trace principles, etc. We got to the Russell Fields Shelter around 5:15 pm and had 5 other hikers (male) join us at our shelter Friday night. After setting up our sleeping systems, we gathered and filtered water, prepared dinner, hung our food bags on the provided bear cables, and turned in around 8:00 pm.
This is the Shuckstack Fire Tower. I climbed to the top and ate lunch while enjoying the views.
View of Fontana Lake from the fire tower.
Hiking along the trail.
All the shelters along the trail were designed basically the same.
Inside Russell Fields Shelter. We chose the top bunks.
On Day 2, my friend and I got up around 5:30 am and tried to quietly pack up while the others in the shelter were still sleeping. I can only lay on my sleeping pad on a wooden floor for so many hours! We had breakfast and got on trail around 7:00 am. It was mostly daylight but since we were in the woods, I needed to use my headlamp for the first few minutes to see all the rocks and roots on the trail. We hiked 16.39 miles (4,977 elevation gain) and arrived at Double Springs Shelter around 6:00 pm. Although the mileage was the same as the previous day the terrain seemed harder and our legs were tired so it took longer. When we got to the shelter there were 4 other hikers there (all males again). Same evening routine and we crawled in our sleeping bags around 8:00 pm. I didn’t sleep much Saturday night because there was a chestnut tree whose limbs hung over the shelter and it dropped chestnuts all night long. Some of them were really, really loud when the hit the tin roof of the shelter and rolled down it.
Me at the top of Rocky Top.
Chestnuts!
On Day 3, my friend and I got up at 4:25 am, packed up as silently as we could, and headed to Clingman’s Dome to watch the sun rise. It was a beautiful viewpoint but oh so cold. The wind was brutal and it was probably in the 30s. I was happy to get back to hiking so that I could warm up. We hiked 10.73 miles total (2,375 feet elevation gain) back to the car. Once there we drove back to Gatlinburg, stopped at the Nantahala Outdoor Center where we changed clothes and did some shopping and then headed to a restaurant for some “real” food. I got home around 4:30 pm and proceeded to take a luxurious shower, start laundry and clean up all my camping gear.

I'm still dealing with lung congestion and coughing. I feel pretty good.
My 10K is this upcoming Saturday, and I am going to do it, but any pretense of hitting a time or goal is out the window. It'll be a social thing.8 -
Amazing pics of your hike @Teresa502! You did a LOT of miles!
@__Tams__ glad you are just about at your goal!
Thanks for the hugs. We didn't get any storms yesterday or last night. The tree branch on the sidewalk was just a dead limb that just fell off the tree I think, since we have had basically 1 day of rain since early June.4 -
WHOA! that tree looks like some sort of monster! Great trip report tho and enjoyed the narrative. Thank you for writing it up and posting @Teresa5023

I'm not sure if I'll be able to reach my goal this month, but I'm not giving up yet. It should be close at least, and I'm proud of what I am doing

Yeah @___Tams___ ! So glad you are so close to your goal.
Great recovery run @martaindale ! Yes, the treadmill is good for something.
@Teresa502 That sounds like a fun, but brutal trip. I have been to Clingman's Dome before. It is pretty up there. Love all of your pictures. I know what you mean about the nuts. I have a hickory tree that overhangs my roof, which is metal. When the squirrels are eating them and/or they are falling onto the roof, it's really loud. Don't blame you for taking the day off.
Don't overdo before Sat @chris_in_cal ! I hope you are feeling almost like normal by then.
