I am actively looking for a new pair of shoes. Would love to get a pair of Saucony Endorphin Speed 3. Was really hoping I would see sales this time of year, but haven't found any. Would go for Speed 2, but still no sales. @martaindale didn't you get some Hoka Mach 5's? Did you (and do you still) like them?1

Good day all!
I’ve been commuting back and forth Friday through Sunday to/ from a bridge tournament. Wasn’t able to carve out walking time since it was pouring rain the whole weekend and didn’t want to sit there all soggy while playing.
Just getting caught up now and back to self care.
2.0 miles this morning
Will get caught up on all your posts hopefully tomorrow morning. Missed the chatter and friendship while I was away.
Off to personal training session next and then to work….

At the lake at about 5:30 am this morning. There are about one mile of streetlights. It is a great place and I am lucky to live near there.
It is a busy week leading to Friday night packet pickup and the 5K race on Saturday.
12/1 - 3 Miles. Field House. 93-day streak.
12/2 - 1 Mile. Field House.
12/3 - 2.09 Miles. Lakefront park. Foggy, 39F.
12/4 - 1.23 Miles. Lakefront park. Light rain, 40F.6 -
I'm curious, do you guys cross train or do you primarily stick with running?
This is a Running thread. The topic generally stays on track (no pun intended), but it does stray off to everything else. Probably everyone of these big-time runners here also cross trains with other things. I started back with an intense yoga teacher last month, for instance.
There are copious threads on MFP for HIIT, Pilates, Strength, core, cycling, swimming, even cross training. It's kind of special to have this focused on running, as it usually is the least sexy and highest nerd quotient of all activities. [speaking for myself] For instance there was recently a scintillating conversation about math.
I'm glad you are here @Zaxa2021 ... You and all of these runners have definitely motivated me to stick with it.

Goal: 80 miles
I'm curious, do you guys cross train or do you primarily stick with running?
I need to. If I don't cross train I get injured easily.
I'm planning on following a push/pull/leg program using 3 days a week and running x3/week, on the 7th day I rest and I've been doing foam rolling and stretching. I'm totally Okay with scaling back and taking more rest days if I feel something is more sore than usual.
What do you do or would like to do to cross train?
4 -
@Zaxa2021I walk on my off days (Sunday), and after every run I do about 10 minutes of body-weight exercises (lunges, squats, calf raises, etc.). And foam roll. But I guess not any real cardio cross training. I know I should tho.
Did 6.1 miles for my last run as a 61 yo 😜 Tomorrow will do 6.2
Probably pushed it a little more than I should have, but it didn't feel too too hard.
Happy birthday tomorrow @shanaber!6 -
@Zaxa2021 I do cross-training if you count fast walking and tennis. I need to do strength training, but haven't found the time to get in that habit yet.
@daria0919 So, how did the tournament go?
Great walk @emptydog ! Good luck on your 5K this weekend.chris_in_cal wrote: »For instance there was recently a scintillating conversation about math.
Great running @Scott6255 ! Happy birthday tomorrow to both you and @shanaber !

1 Dec - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
2 Dec - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 7.00 miles - treadmill
3 Dec - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
4 Dec - Walked 2.25 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
13.25/80.00 miles
I was busy today, working on my "before a trip to-do list" plus having lunch with a friend. I went for a treadmill walk. I was planning on 2 miles, but while I was walking, I realized that would put me at 13.00 miles for the month so far. I'm not normally superstitious, but didn't want to chance it and have an even 13 of anything during a week that I will be driving long distances and racing. Had I had time, I would have done three miles, but decided anything over 2 would "work."
Upcoming race: T-10 miler on Dec 97 -
So only another mile to go and I will be at 500 walking miles for the year (my goal for deliberate walking). That and another 60 running miles and I will be at 2023 combined for the year. My apple watch Dec goal is 145 ex minutes for 14 days so I decided to try to run 60 minutes as part of that. Tennis for over an hour a couple days a week and my little 10-12-15 min strength training sessions. I honestly don't call it "cross training" but if anything the little weight and the running help my tennis which I enjoy more than both of them. I enjoy the running esp longer runs for the endorphins and the appetite suppression. Hopefully the weights will help keep my core stronger so I quit injuring myself playing tennis.
Dec 1 5.48 miles
Dec 2 7.02
Dec 3 3.56
Dec 4 5.58 cum 21.64 for the month and 1463.76 for the year
Happy birthday @Scott6255 and @shanaber tomorrow.

Morning all.
Got in 5.35 Miles (at 09"20 pace).
Happy birthday @shanaber and @Scott6255 !! have a lovely day both!!
@quilteryoyo - yayy, on not being charged for the oil change and check engine light!4 -
Congrats on meeting your walking goal for the year @SummerSkier ! I'm sure you will make your goal of 2023 for the year. Those of you who have done that are amazing, in my opinion..... @Scott6255 and @AlphaHowls and anyone else I missed.
Ooops. I wasn't clear @tarun_yadavA . I was charged for the oil change, but not the check engine light issue. It was still cheaper than it normally is - have started taking it to a new place for service. Nice running this morning.

I ran 5 miles with a friend this morning. The temp wasn't bad at 37F. It's currently raining so I'm glad we missed that.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY @shanaber and @Scott6255!
When are you heading to Florida @quilteryoyo?
@Zaxa2121 - I try to do strength training at least 3 times a week. The workouts range from 30 minutes to one hour typically. I ocassionally do yoga but not as often as I should. I've been doing some backpacking day and overnight trips on the Appalachian Trail and I have found that the strength training makes it easier to climbs those mountains and lug around a 30 pound backpack while doin it.5 -
Happy Birthday @shanaber and @Scott6255!!
@quilteryoyo good luck with your 10 miler on the 9th! Curiously, what does the T in T-10 stand for?
@Zaxa2021 I work with a trainer once a week, try to get in my walk/run 3 times a week and try to do either another walk/bike/elliptical for 30 minutes once a week.
@chris_in_cal nice 7 miles - amazing you got that done in the first week!
@quilteryoyo tournament was ok. I didn’t play with my regular good partners. I was trying to help a woman in her 80s become a life master in bridge, but she had a rough time of it.
Great runs this month so far all of you!!
I signed my husband and myself up for the 10K in April. The training program for that starts in February. My goal for now is to work on weight loss and on getting up to 4 miles before it starts.7 -
December Goal: 130 Miles
12/1: 3.30 miles
12/3: 10.10 miles
12/5: 6.31 miles
19.71/130 miles completed for December
It was about 38° F this morning. It wasn't too windy and the sky was bright and starry, so it was a nice morning and I ran 6.3 miles. It was just starting to get light as I got home. It was an uneventful run, but I enjoyed it.
Happy Birthday @scott6255 and @shanaber!
@Zaxa2021 In addition to running, I do yoga. I try to do at least 10-15 minutes after a run, and on my off days I try to do at least 45-60 minutes. I used to walk on my off days, but I haven't been going for as many intentional walks since my dogs have gotten elderly and can't go very long distances anymore. So I don't always track it when I do walk. I probably should do some weight training, but I don't enjoy it and I feel that there is enough body weight in yoga and I enjoy that, so that is good enough for me.6 -
I am actively looking for a new pair of shoes. Would love to get a pair of Saucony Endorphin Speed 3. Was really hoping I would see sales this time of year, but haven't found any. Would go for Speed 2, but still no sales. @martaindale didn't you get some Hoka Mach 5's? Did you (and do you still) like them?
Yep, I am now on my 3rd pair. They are my favorites and I use them for all my long runs and speed/tempo runs. I still use the NB 1080’s for my daily recovery runs and like those but they are definitely less springy than the Mach.3 -
I'm curious, do you guys cross train or do you primarily stick with running?
I’m noticing a theme amongst the group, lots of “I really should…”I am in that same boat. I do Pilates for strength training/flexibility but only make about 1 class a week. I should also be doing some kind of cardiovascular cross-training, but haven’t really found anything that interests me and I barely have time for the running and Pilates I currently do.
