    JFT Sun

    I have nothing..

Feeling pretty wiped out out after a bit more of hectic weekend than I anticipated. Did a 5 mile hike on Saturday after I had already worked out and done a bunch of errands early morning. I just had a salad with some leftover taco meat and the tiniest slice of vegetarian pizza. My knee was very sore and tired after that hike because I desperately need new hiking shoes. I just can't find anything I like.

Today was another busy day , volunteered at our annual get together with the local horse park group i belong to. We needed to do some end of season maintenance before the weather turns but its was fun to get away from my parents a bit and go mindlessly paint jumps.

the bad part is that I didn't meal plan today and now I am too tired to muster up the motivation to even spend the mental energy.

    JFT Monday
If my parents weren't here and I had my house to myself I would legit call in sick , stay in bed and watch movies or read a book for the majority of the day.
Instead, I will go to work, try not to get too annoyed with one of my coworkers by keeping my head down and ignoring her as much as possible.

    Focus on a stretch/abs session
    Protein and Fiber
try to drink a gallon of H20 tomorrow to flush out the muscle soreness from the hike
Maybe figure meals for the remainder of the week.

Had a great long weekend. Thursday was the career fair, followed by trivia and Karaoke with half of WVU's senior class of chemical engineers. Friday we slept in then met old friends for drinks and appetizers. Followed that with a quick drive up to Pittsburgh to see our daughter and her BF. Then Saturday was the WVU football game, where the fun started early with breakfast and mimosas. Game was at noon. Rain delay in the second half sent us to the bar to wait it out. Finished watching the game from the bar. Went back to the hotel to change and then went "clubbing" with the college kids that night. It was a lot of fun, but my 50 yo body doesn't function like it did 30 years ago. I was wiped out by Sunday. Actually went to sleep at 7:30 last night.

Not much on the agenda today other than work. May be trivia thus evening.

    JFT Monday
    - Work by 8:00 :( 8:30
    - Catch up on email (195 in work inbox, 102 in personal inbox)
    - Home for lunch to let pup out
    - Meetings until 4:30 or so
    - Home with pup
    - Trivia
    - Log food
    - No more than 3 alcoholic drinks <300 cal.

Last nite I went to the store with my daughter to get cleaning supplies for her. I threw in my cart a box of ice cream (on sale for 2.99, and a bag of those crazy little pumpkin/candy corn candies).
Well... I got home and ate half of the bag of pumpkin candy.... and had an upset stomach, intestinal problems this morning. Ha... serves me right.
And then I think again... why do I work out like crazy (which I do love to do though.. but the goal is to get in shape), and then eat this crap.
The box of ice cream is unopened... so I put that downstairs in the freezer. And... I threw the rest of the bag of pumpkin candy in the trash. As I was doing this.. I thought.. oh no, I can't throw food away. That bag cost $2.00. But... I did it anyhow, and today, so far, I am doing good on eating healthy foods.
So I am starting again, and starting doing tiny habits.. which worked well for me in the past. I reset my weight and starting date on MFP... so I am starting from scratch. Ok... this time... I've got to do this. I'm not getting any younger, and it will only get harder. I ache in places I never used to. I am finding it harder to get up when gardening.. even when using the bathroom... I am having a harder time getting up. that scares me. I am only 73... I don't want to be like many of my friends my age. I just bought a new bike... I want to continue to enjoy it. So.... time to focus, get serious, and stay as young as I can, for as long as I can. Goal now... I need to lose close to 25 pounds to be in the healthy weight for my height. (Right now, I am close to obese... need to lose 10 to be back in at least the overweight_
    So, for tomorrow, tues, 9/24
    1. log all food
    2. concentrate on water
    3. go to silver sneakers class. I can't go to gym in morning because we have roofers coming out.
    4. tiny habits:
    a. Right after I clean up dinner dishes.. brush my teeth and floss.
    b. Whenever I go to the bathroom... gulp down a huge glass of water
    c. Right after I clean up dinner dishes... go for a walk.. even if only around the block. Just go out and walk.

    JFT 9/25 W ~ wonderful fall day
    1) Walked dog 4.34 mi ~ dog got treat from garbage truck driver & I chatted with Collector Porsche man who always waves when we go walking by :sunglasses: happy dog & happy me
    2) Log all food / net calories green / 80 oz. water

Yesterday's colonoscopy went very well: no polyps found, only the 2nd time of 5 that's happened. Also, according to the gastroenterologist & updated guidelines, because my dad's cancer did not occur when he was younger than 60, and due to my own age now, I don't need to have another colonoscopy for 10 years. And at my age then, they may recommend I don't have any anymore. Yippee-ki-yay!

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    66 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

    2024 Goals:
    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26. Ppl
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
      * moussaka America's Test Kitchen tv show ~ very tasty, nice size portions & filling, though complicated with four distinct layers & many prep steps ~ nice to have an alternate eggplant recipe
      * peach cobbler (BH&G) used qt fresh peaches grown in Ripon
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):
January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]
    February: 6 days x1wk, 5x1, 4x1, 2x1 [2 wks overnight trips to visit parents]
March: 5 days x1wk, 4x1, 3x1, 0x1 [ack... prep house & food for Easter dinner; 1 wk overnight trip to visit parents]
April: 4 days x2wks, 3x1, 2x1 [lots of lousy weather, plus 1 wk overnight trip]
May: 6 days x2wks, 3x3 [fit days in around 2 overnight trips & visit on Mother's Day]
    June: 6 days x1wk {including Bellin 10K}, 5x1, 2x2 {either very rainy or hot for 2 wks}
    July: 5 days x1wk {including Packers 5K}, 4x2, 3x1 {a lot of very hot/humid days}

        Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / June / July / Aug / Sept
      6) Participate in my favorite area races ~ I walk, I do not run
      • Registered early (shoot, didn't get selected randomly for waiver of fee) on 12.29.23 for 6.8.24 Bellin 10K race ~ light rain most of race, steady rain last mile or so :star: chip time 1:42:35 ave. pace 16:31 (first half 16:50 second half 16:12) overall 3,136 out of 3,463 / females 1,560 out of 1,792 / F65-69yo 30 out of 48 ~ not as fast as I used to go, but still finished my 27th Bellin overall (their 48th year)

    1. log all food :)
    2. concentrate on water :)
    3. go to silver sneakers class. I can't go to gym in morning because we have roofers coming out. :)
    4. tiny habits:
    a. Right after I clean up dinner dishes.. brush my teeth and floss. >:)
    b. Whenever I go to the bathroom... gulp down a huge glass of water >:)
    c. Right after I clean up dinner dishes... go for a walk.. even if only around the block. Just go out and walk. :)
Did Ok most of the day, but forgot the water; got into that box of ice cream last nite. but at least the icecream is almost gone... and no more buying stuff like that in the store.
Went to silver sneakers class.. as much as I exercise, boy, I was sore, but in a good way. Plan to do this 2x a week, go to gym 4x a week, and try to walk most evenings. That is how I lost weight before... those walks after dinner, so need to get back to that before it gets too cold. Also, keep the same tiny habits until these become habits.

Taking a me day today, personal day from work. I have a number of personal to do's that I keep putting off and I just needed to have the time to do that.

Going to focus on water and fiber today.
Very body sore from workouts so maybe a stretch session and take the dog for a walk
    Planning for a weekend BBQ

    About me:

April: 4 days x2wks, 3x1, 2x1 [lots of lousy weather, plus 1 wk overnight trip]
May: 6 days x2wks, 3x3 [fit days in around 2 overnight trips & visit on Mother's Day]
