On Monday, I had my first follow-up scans to see if the chemo & immunotherapy treatments have been working. On Tuesday morning, I saw the Oncologist for results prior to what was supposed to be my last chemo for this round of treatment. I'm EXCITED to share that the results were GREAT!
I was told at my last appointment that the goal is to stop the cancer growth and to not be disappointed if the scans didn't show any decrease in size of the masses. I was told that the goal with Stage 4 cancer is to stop it from growing and as long as there is no increase/change in current masses and no new masses, then that was considered success. So, you can imagine my surprise when the doctor told me that the masses on November's scans are no longer there! He said the results of my scans were GREAT! My doctor said that if he were to put a number on it, he'd guess 95% of cancer is gone, if not completely gone. This is amazing news for this kind of aggressive cancer!
He not only said that my response to treatment was GREAT, but he cancelled my last chemo! He said for a chance of getting perhaps 1.5% more response, it wasn't worth the side effects and illness I have had just to get that last dose. So...I had no chemo this week! Which means no nausea or vomiting, no bone pain, no mouth sores, no fingertip or foot pain....I get to just start building my strength back up instead. Yay!!!
I feel so blessed, and the feelings of overwhelm from relief, gratitude, fear, all the stuff that goes with cancer, have left me exhausted! Our prayers were answered! I slept most of yesterday and I'm still really fatigued today. I'm not naΓ―ve; I know that at any time it could reappear with the need to go back into battle, but for today I am in remission and I'm so thankful!
So....I am taking it slow and rebuilding my strength. These past months have left me pretty weak. But I am ready to jump back in and take charge of getting as healthy as I possibly can, to give myself the best chance to live MANY more years as strong, healthy and able-bodied!
I just wanted to share, as I've been in this group with some of you for many years and I thought you might like to hear the news! Yay!!!

@PackerFanInGB I need more than a "like" button for your post! So so pleased for you. I've only been back on the thread for a few weeks, but I've thought of you often, knowing you were having such harrowing treatment. How marvellous that you also didn't need the last chemo treatment.
Now it's your time to relax and recover and build yourself up again

She is just here for spring break. My daughter's crew team has a spring training event in Tennessee and we are just keeping Gia while she is gone. She is a super sweet dog. Still a puppy, but much more mellow than she was 5 months ago.3 -

Went way overboard last night. Food choices were good, but I decided to have a few drinks. Then I ran into an old friend and the drinks kept coming. We we out way later than planned. No matter, I had a great time. Of course, I totally didn't want to get out of bed this morning. Friday's at work are incredibly boring. Most of my employees work 4 x 10 instead of 5 x 8, so it's like a ghost town here on Fridays. V is coming in tonight, and we are taking Gia to Sierra Sunday so I will get to see both kiddos this weekend. That makes me smile.

Hey everyone!
Think I'm ready to start again!
Got sick to death of saying "today's the last day of bad eating" only to do it again.
So it's too late now but can start tomorrow.
If I don't will someone PLEASE tell me off π
I noticed today because today has been the first warm enough day (atleast it was this morning) where I didn't need a coat. A cardigan was enough. And I felt SO self conscious and catching sight of myself in reflections left me feeling miserable
I also canxelled the appointment for my potential Achilles tendonitis as it was feeling much better. Only for it to start hurting again literally the next day.
What's that? Sods law?
Anyway now I'm too embarrassed to book another one so will just deal with it for now. It may get better again!
But if not, I'll have to bite the bullet and book another appointment

Still thinking and being aware before I eat, but need to make better choices. I had bread and jam for my main meal yesterday, that won't help my iron levels! The morning walk was okay, but by the time I walked back to collect my car in the afternoon my foot and back were aching so it was difficult. Was also raining again!
I've made an appointment with the osteopath for next week, I'm concerned about how I will manage this spring and summer when I'm in pain every time I do something.

Happy Saturday! I didnβt do so great with my food and water goals yesterday, but itβs ok. Itβs going to take some time to bounce back. Every day is a brand new start. π

Here I go again.. not posting in over a week my goals. Like @Bex .. I am really struggling with getting going, until now we have "shorts" and "short sleeve" kind of weather... and I feel so out of shape! Physically I can tell the difference to... my stamina is not what it used to be just a year ago. Hubby reminds me that I am going to be 74 .. but I refuse to believe that is the reason. I weigh a good 15 pounds more than I did a year ago... almost 25 pounds more than I should be weight to be in the healthy range.
So... whos going to do anything about it? I'm not going to take that "magic pill" that Kelly Clarkson took... there is no such thing as that. So .... I need to get with it!!
It is very late today, saturday, so I won't post my goals.. except the rest of tonite.. no more food. I ate healthy all day, except I tend to grab a handful of nuts, mix in a handful of raisins. I did this TWICE today.. ha.. thats probably like 1000 calories right there. Even though its healthy, its still calories!!
So ... tomorrow is even suppose to be my official weigh in day. I will do that.. and get back on track!!
@PackerFanInGB: I hope you realize how much you have inspired, not only me, but everyone on this board. We have all been routing for you... you are one very brave and strong lady! I knew you would get through this .. you had the right attitide! And I love your focus": Today I am healthy. Today I choose peace! What a beautiful quote. Love you like a wonderful friend I have never met. So very very proud of you... You rest though dear friend! Take your time and do what you need to do to regain your strength back. Your a fighter .. you've got this beat!!
@beachwalker99: I would love to see your crocheted lepracaun! Please post a picture! I'm trying to learn crochet.. but I find if I do it too long my hands hurt. Gosh.. I hope that's not arthritis! Someone told me I just need to keep practicing.. but so far, all I make is dishcloths. But ... crocheted dishcloths are the best!

Got some garden tidying done before the rain started at 4pm. Forecast was spot on. It's still raining so no outside stuff today.

I know I haven't posted goals today but I have been logging my food! My scales ran out of battery but I'm charging them up now so hopefully they'll be ready by dinner time!
I'm not sure how I want to proceed with this.. but I think I may log on daily but not post goals, but rather post what I've achieved that day. I think I find that easier than all the editing etc in the posts and having to do the posts twice a day! Especially when they're basically the same goals
But in going to have my goals written down at home.
Today is going well so far3 -
Yesterday I walked 4 miles. Normally, this is easy for me, even after I go to the gym for 60 minutes in the morning. But yesterday.. those 4 miles felt like I had walked 10! SO I KNOW I've got to get back to doing more squats, more leg exercises, and most importantly, get these extra 20 pounds off. I love to garden. So many people that are my age can't garden anymore.. because they can't get down on the ground. I don't want that to happen.. I love it too much. I love planting, mowing the grass, anything outside.
Think of carrying a large bag of fertilizer, or bird seed that weighs 20 pounds. That is hard to do!
I made myself a chart at the beginning of the year... what I wanted to lose each month (and it was only 4 pounds a month, so not that much). I wrote down what I wanted to weigh at the beginning of February, March, April, etc.
I took it down, because I wasn't meeting those goals. But IF I had kept going since I started, on April 1st .I would be close to 12 pounds lighter than I currently am. That was a very conservative loss of just 1 pound a week...and I didn't even do that. Instead, ha.. I am like 2 pounds lighter this morning than I was January 1st.
So ... like I said. If I don't do it, who will! There is no magic pill to just drop the pounds. It has to be ME.
So, my goals today, March 17 (st Patricks day!)
1. LOG ALL FOOD
2. concentrate on water
3. concentrate on calories .. keep it at or below 1400
4. do 25 squats
5. go for a walk since I skipped the gym this morning
6. Do it. Do not give up. Its totally up to me what I want to look and feel like. If I want to continue to feel old and tired, look frumpy in my clothes.. keep doing what I am doing. If I want to fight getting older, stay as limber and strong as I can, wear cute clothes .. I have to change. Its up to me.
7. What do I want to look like the rest of my life. Overweight, frumpy, unable to do what I love. SW Year 2017: 220-217
SW Year 2018: 195.5
SW Year 2019 : 206 -- met my goal weight of 178, but gained 5 lbs over pandemic
SW Year 2020: 182.6 -- gained another 12 pounds through the pandemic
SW Year 2021:195 -- weight fluctuated all year from 184-190s
SW Year 2022: 190 - reached 182 in August. But weight on a slow increase the rest of the year.
SW Year 2023: 207.8 - got my weight down to 195; I always gain again between halloween and New Years.
SW year 2024: 209.0
Goals for 2024:
Staring weight: Jan 7, 2024: 209.0
Goal weight at the end of 2024: 175-180, and learn to maintain
Goal to lose 25-30 lbs this year to be in healthy range
Weight Goals:
1st goal weight: 199 - reach this by March
2nd goal weight: 185 - reach this by July
Ultimate goal weight: 175- reach this by SeptemberWeekly Weigh-ins

As much as it is so hard to put that number down... I think, at least for me, I am more accountable to you guys, so that's what I'm doing.
This is for ONE MONTH! (But we'll do this in 6 weeks)... so the next 5 pound challenge will start on May 1st.5
