    JUST FOR TODAY, 07/08:
    1. Create today’s plan and assess yesterday’s. 😊

    3. 60+ oz water. 😊
    4. Take a walk. ❌
    5. Close 3 activity rings. 😊
    6. Self-Care 30 minutes. 😊
    7. Evening routine. ❌

    ==================

Good morning! I hope everyone is well.

I Had a really nice day yesterday. I realized I haven’t been spending any time in my sewing space because it’s so cluttered! It makes me feel so anxious and chaotic. So a friend of mine suggested the 5 Thing Method, where you just declutter 5 things a day…it could be 5 pens, a couple of books and 3 pairs of socks, whatever…just 5 things either put away, in a donate box or a toss box. Oh my gosh, was that ever a game changer! I went down and decluttered 5 items on my sewing machine cabinet, then decluttered 5 things on my fabric table, then 5 things on my cutting table and then I ended up tossing 5 expired items off the pantry shelves! So, of course I didn’t stop at only 5 for the day, but I kept it in groups of 5 and since I didn’t set a timer or anything, there was no pressure to keep going and it felt so doable and so good! My friend said it’s been amazing how much this has helped at her house since she’s been doing it for almost a year, and I believe it. I ended up spending my whole day downstairs sewing afterward. Felt good to do something normal. It was my first day not having to sit on a donut. I paid for it last night though…. 😬

@mytime6630 So nice to hear from you, Joan! It sounds like your visit to your son’s was busy but fun! Glad he had such a nice turnout for fireworks!

@PackerFanInGB Thanks so much for sharing the "declutter 5 things" idea. I love it! I'm always down that I don't get complete control of certain areas of clutter at home. Maybe I don't need an all or nothing attitude to clutter. Maybe this approach will help. Baby steps LOL

Recap 7/9 T ~ Another hot, steamy day & no dog walk. Well, maybe a short walk to the park and back this evening. Low chance of rain for a good change, so I'm taking advantage and hanging laundry to dry.
    1) Leftovers for supper? yes / log all food / no crazy snacking / 80 oz. water
    2) PT exercises too lazy :s / min. 7,500 steps
    3) Laundry (line-dry 2 loads, towels in dryer) / balance bank accts / download cc activity / update budget s/s / review zucchini recipes / make something w/ zucchini / read / other? I did more than review zucchini recipes: I sorted through a huge pile of recipes, sorted them by produce (so they're handy when I need them) and by season (certainly don't need a ton of soup recipes in hot summer months). Found old recipe for zucchini oatmeal muffins that I used to make all the time. Yay! Added items to grocery list based on recipes. Also emptied kitchen compost into bin & refilled another watering can from rain barrel. TA-DA!

    JFT 7/10 W
    1) Walked dog 3.58 mi  My alarm was, well, alarming, but I got up & walked dog in a.m. when heat & humidity are bearable. Chatted with Kim & Bogie, saw deer crossing road, saw Al (dog drank water at their house); we missed the garbage truck driver on his route today but that's ok. Happy dog & happy me.
    2) Grill brats for supper, leftover veg & salads / no crazy snacking / log all food / 80 oz. water
    3) Bake zucchini oatmeal muffins / finalize grocery list for tomorrow / wash dishes / read / declutter 5 items / city band concert 7 p.m. (take canned goods for food pantry) / other?

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    66 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

    2024 Goals:
    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26 but no new recipes yet.
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):
January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]
    February: 6 days x1wk, 5x1, 4x1, 2x1 [2 wks overnight trips to visit parents]
March: 5 days x1wk, 4x1, 3x1, 0x1 [ack... prep house & food for Easter dinner; 1 wk overnight trip to visit parents]
April: 4 days x2wks, 3x1, 2x1 [lots of lousy weather, plus 1 wk overnight trip]
May: 6 days x2wks, 3x3 [fit days in around 2 overnight trips & visit on Mother's Day]
    June: 6 days x1wk {including Bellin 10K}, 5x1, 2x2 {either very rainy or hot for 2 wks}
    • Walk dog 3-4 miles, treadmill when necessary in winter, weights/my home version of circuit & other x-training
    • PT (physical therapy) exercises to strengthen arthritic knees & hip flexor
      Jan 4x; Feb 1x; Mar/Apr 0x; May 1x; June x
      4) MapMyWalk app You Vs. the Year 1,024km challenge started on Jan. 1
      • In 2023 I logged 726.88 miles, or 1,169.8 km & completed yearly challenge 11.14.23 :star:
      • In 2022 I logged 500.4 miles, or 805km (knee issues).
      5) At least 7,500 steps per day
      • I can earn $10 every month on my Medicare Advantage Plan with 10+ days of 7,500 steps:
        Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / June
      6) Participate in my favorite area races ~ I walk, I do not run
      • Registered early (rats, missed out on waiver of fee) on 12.29.23 for Bellin 10K race on 6.8.24 ~ light rain most of race, steady rain last mile or so :star chip time 1:42:35 ave. pace 16:31 (first half 16:50 second half 16:12) overall 3,136 out of 3,463 / females 1,560 out of 1,792 / F65-69yo 30 out of 48 ~ not as fast as I used to go, but still finished my 27th Bellin overall (their 48th year)

    @PackerFanInGB - I haven’t heard of the 5 thing method before.
    Thats a great idea.

@cschmitz110515 - decluttering can be such a miserable job. Keep your chin up.

Two small wins for me today:
    - I survived the sensory overwhelm that is shopping at Walmart
    - I made myself a balanced dinner (tuna, baked potato, peas). Didn’t eat nearly all of it, but I’ve had a week-long string of bad IBS days so im happy with what I did manage to eat.

I hate the flare-ups that are caused by that time of the month because all I can do is ride it out. Hopefully it will ease off soon and I can get back to eating like a normal person.

A busy day today.. gym in the morning, filled out paperwork that hubby has been putting off doing for 4 months... mowed the grass... cleaned out the refrigerator and freezer.. then went for a 4 mile walk after dinner.
And I am cutting out strips for a new quilt to make. A very colorful quilt... but I misread the pattern, and cut out 4x the amount of strips I need. Ha.. I can make 4 identical quilts LOL!! Oh well.. I will use them for another pattern, but I guess a senior moment.
Heading to bed now.. I was careful today what I eat.. I just need to get back to writing down what I eat each day.
    SO tomorrows goals
    1. go to gym
    2. write down everything I eat
    3. concentrate on 8+ water.
    4. start sewing quilt

back again. I haven't decided on a number goal yet but the overall goal is to a bunch lighter and in much better shape by mid March for 20yr anniversary to Hawaii. It is much easier to be have fun physically if I'm lighter.

    So JFT 7/9/2024
    - Log all food. this week I'm not caring (much) about the calorie intake so much as just getting back in the habit of logging. Breakfast already done✔
    - Brush teeth before bed✔
    - Water garden with Epsom salt✔
    - Fold towels✔

    JFT 7/10
    All things success yesterday

    - Log all food
    - Get quotes for powerwashing house
    - sew velcro on patch

meh. I got breakfast and lunch logged and then started feeling like crap in the afternoon and just didn't care. So stuff didn't get done and i didn't log dinner. Nor was dinner the grilled chicken and veggies I planned but rather wings and pizza as takeout on the way home.

head's not screwed on correctly today but overall feeling better this morning.
    - Log all food
    - Powerwash quotes
    - Sew velcro on patch
    - Brush teeth before bed
    - Dishes

    JUST FOR TODAY, 07/10
    1. Create today’s plan and assess yesterday’s. 😊
    2. Log all my food and close Food Diary at the end of the day. ❌. WTH? I kept really good track in my head, but got busy working on a quilt top and forgot to log it! Oy! 🤦🏻‍♀️
    3. 60+ oz water. 😊
    4. Take a walk. ❌
    5. Aldi produce run. ❌ Going today with DH instead
    6. Close 3 activity rings. 😊
    7. Self-Care 30 minutes. 😊 spent afternoon quilting
    8. Evening routine. 😊
    9. 5 Things 😊 5 things upstairs (pencils & pens on counter) 5 things downstairs (fabric table and organized work in progress quilts)

@cschmitz110515 I get so overwhelmed when I look at certain areas of clutter that I just keep procrastinating. My friend who told me about this method said she’s been doing it everyday for a year and it’s made a huge difference at her house. She said the part she loves the most about is that at 5 things a day, her husband, the pack rat, hasn’t even noticed things were gone! LOL! I’m only on day 3, but I’m loving it.

@mytime6630 Joan! 4x too many strips! Oh my gosh, that made me smile. Been there…. Luckily there are many patterns for strip quilts! 😂 I’m finishing a laptop quilt for my granddaughter and am struggling because it’s not my style…so it’s hard to get into it. She wanted black, white and red. It’s modern and bold, and I’m more of a teal and flowery kind of girl…softer colors.

Today, I’m running to Aldi for more produce. Didn’t sleep well so I don’t see a lot getting done. It’s going to have hot again, but not in the 100°’s like some places! Good Lord, I wouldn’t leave my house!

    JFT - Wednesday July 10th
    Log all food - 🙂
    1.5L of water - 👿
Move 20 minutes - 😕 it was way too hot to do anything

    JFT - Thurs July 11th
    Log all food

@emgracewrites - I have a friend that suffers from IBS it’s a terrible thing to deal with. It’s a shame they haven’t come up with a cure for it yet.

@mytime6630 - can’t wait to see your new quilt. A friend of mine attends quilt shows, she made a miniature quilt for the last show. I have no idea what the size was but it was so pretty and colourful. She shared pics from the show there are some impressive works being done.

@aerochic42 - I made a poor choice for supper yesterday too. It’s ok, today is a new day. That’s what I love about this thread.

@littleblackskirt - what exercises are you doing for PF, I assume that’s plantar fasciitis? I have been suffering with it too. I did find some cheap shoes that have helped a lot with the pain. I wear proper ones with arch support most of the time, then I put these ones on to feel relief in my foot.

I have a job interview next Thursday, it’s at a nursing home here in the city doing the same thing I did at the last one with a bit more responsibility. I’m so hoping I get it.

@Snowflake1968 . I'm not beating myself up for it in the least. Just acknowledging why I made the choices I did. I'm still getting back in the logging something habit much less the actually plan meals to be under a specific goal. and if the goal cannot include pizza and wings every so often then i need to rethink it in the future.

good luck on the job interview.

@Snowflake1968 Yes, it's plantar faciitis. It started in August last year, and it's only in the last month that it is improving. Not completely gone, but probably 80 % better.

In the morning, before I put my feet on the floor, I roll my feet over a hard ball.
Then it's mostly calf stretching I do. Put my hands on a wall, one foot well behind the other and lean into the wall, so stretching the back calf.
Also stand on a step (I use the bottom stair), rise up on my toes, then drop the feet down lower than the step.
When walking upstairs, on each step put only the front of my foot on the step, whilst dropping the heel down a bit. Sounds weird but I soon got used to it. Those stair exercises were on the advice of the osteopath.

I also read that massaging the calves can help, so got a small travel massager and tried that. But I wasn't very consistent with that, so doubt it helped much.

I wear trainers. I've tried a few different insoles, and settled on Dr Scholls pain relief insoles for plantar faciitis. I find the cushioning in them helps. As soon as I wear flat summer shoes the pain gets worse.

I don't have exercise sessions but just do bits throughout the day. I've been watching exercise videos for older people and do bits from them. And I do leg exercises before I get out of bed in the morning, as my knee was getting quite bad. This getting old is rubbish, but I don't like the alternative either lol.

Good luck in your interview, I'm sure you'll do well!

@Snowflake1968 Good luck on your interview! Are you done with your classes & practicums?

    Recap 7/10 W
    1) Walked dog 3.58 mi  My alarm was, well, alarming, but I got up & walked dog in a.m. when heat & humidity are bearable. Chatted with Kim & Bogie, saw deer crossing road, saw Al (dog drank water at their house); we missed the garbage truck driver on his route today but that's ok. Happy dog & happy me.
    2) Grill brats for supper, leftover veg & salads ~ good to finally get the grill going / no crazy snacking ~ muffin, string cheese / log all food / 80 oz. water  good day
    3) Bake zucchini oatmeal muffins / finalize grocery list for tomorrow / wash dishes / read / declutter 5 items ~ didn't really count but a few things got moved  / city band concert 7 p.m. (take canned goods for food pantry) / other? made Hungarian cucumber salad, some digital decluttering  TA-DA!

JFT 7/11 R ~ very warm day, humidity decent & no rain in forecast YAY
    1) Actually woke up before alarm but took my time getting out of bed... still walked dog before too warm. Saw RJ & dog got treat & water, saw bunny (our area is overrun with bunnies this year: when hubby and I came home last evening, there were at least 3 in neighbor's front yard, one in yard few houses down, and we always have them in our backyard as well as other next door's backyard ACK. I will have no black eyed-Susans blooming this year b/c bunnies ate ALL the buds & sad me). Happy dog & happy me :sunglasses:
    2) Make meatloaf with grated zucchini (sister's recipe), summer squash & zucchini casserole (new recipe) for supper / no crazy snacking / log all food / 80 oz. water
    3) Grocery shop ~ done / water flower pots with bloom boost / refill water jugs with plant food / refill watering cans / read / call Mom / wash dishes / declutter 5 items / other?

I had talked hubby into attending (free) concert at park on Lake Michigan shore tonight (it's a 50 min. drive) and taking food to eat there. One of my favorite area bands, Big Mouth & the Power Tool Horns, is playing. When I researched details to make certain about location, time, etc. I found out a community band is opening for 45 min. and American Legion is selling food. Park will be packed. We decided that, by the time we drive & park vehicle, walk with our chairs & secure our viewing spot, then having two bands perform, then doing the return trip, would make a for long evening. Plus hubby is concerned about deer on roadways at time of night we would be returning, and he's not wrong. It's more than hubby and I are up to these days, even though we're retired. Maybe because we are. Anyway, change in plans, we're staying home, and I really don't mind. I have plenty to keep busy with, plus I will try several new recipes tonight.

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.

This is the quilt I just finished.. ha.. never again! It looks 3D from a distance, but not from close up. The picture is before I put on the black borders... but I'm not too excited about it. Not sure what I'll do with it. It was suppose to be for my grandson for xmas.. but I don't like that you have to stand back to see the 3d effect.
    ts9ojbed75dm.jpg
Anyhow, I told you guys I accidently cut 4x the amount of strips I need for the quilt I'm doing. Well.. I've been wanting to do a bargello quilt, so I can use some of the strips for that. This is a very colorful "rainbow" kind of quilt... so ha.. I'll have one bargello, and the other one using the same fabrics but a different pattern, but different colors. I'll still have enough strips to make another one.. or just throw in my scrap bin to use for another project downthe road. But these just might be what I give my 2 step-granddaughters for xmas!
These are the quilts I am not making. (The one with the lady by it (Donna Jordan), is the one I cut the strips for, but cut way too many. So for those who don't know what a bargello quilt is, thats the second picture. I've never made one.. out of my comfort zone.. so we'll see! (Note:: these are not my quilts.. just a picture of what I hope they will look like when I am finished.. all rainbow colors and bright!

My day today went OK, even though tonite I'm munching on nuts and raisins! Our daughter is still sick with a very bad cold, and hubby does not want her in the house. She suffers from mental illness, and has no friends, so her biggest thing is severe loneliness when she can't come out here, but I know hubby is right. At age 74, neither of us wants to get sick, and our daughter really needs to learn to watch tv, or entertain herself in the evenings. But.. the mom in me worried, and mindlesssly, grabbed cashews and raisins. But... I stopped at just a handful of each.
I went to the gym with hubby this afternoon... and he stays 90 minutes, so I think I am Ok!
    Goals for tomorrow, 7/12, friday
    1. go to gym
    2. concentrate on water
    3. write down what I eat!! I am finding if I write it in a notebook... by hand... I seem to be more mindful. Doesn't make sense, but just trying something different that logging my food online. I am not keeping track of calories... more trying to be more mindful of just how much food I eat each day. It was working for the 5 days I did it... then, as usual for me, I get off track for a couple days. This time we went to michigan, so just have to get back at writing things down again.

@Snowflake1968 - best of luck on the job interview!
@PackerFanInGB - I laughed when you said you got to sewing and didn't log! Thats been my problem so much.. if I don't do it right away, I forget. Ha.. priorities are sewing!!
@aerochic42 - there are so many days where I make good choices all day, then days where the entire day is poor choices. But I try to find the 80/20% rule. If I can make good, healthier choices 80% of the time.. then that is OK. No one can be perfect. In fact, that is my biggest hurdle. I still think I have to be perfect everyday.. and if I'm not, it throws me off. Its hard to learn that yes, its OK to have something that maybe we didn't plan for. But the trick is not to let that stop us, and make a better choice with the next meal. you are doing great!!
@littleblackskirt - I've never had plantas facsis, but from what I hear and see, it is so painful. My husband had it where he couldn't even walk. We went into a store, called the "Good Feet" store. He bought sole inserts for his shoes, and it made such a difference. He still wears them to this day, so if the exercises you are doing are slow in helping you, if you have one of these stores, you might want to check it out. The minute he put in the inserts he could tell a huge difference.

@mytime6630 thanks for the tip re insoles. I've not heard of that store, I don't think they are here in Scotland. I've had to order insoles online to try different ones.

    JFT Thursday 11th July

    Log everything ✅
    Stay in the green ✅
    No snacking ✅ 12/14
    PF exercises ✅
    General exercises ✅
    Walk ❌
Give my giant shrub it's yearly trim ✅

Feeling my age (and more!) this morning. Yesterday I cut back the shrub, then continued tidying the garden, and cut some grass. When I went inside about 5pm I could hardly move, too much in one day. There was a reason behind my silliness though, Friday is bin collection day, and our bin men have voted to go on strike. The dates haven't been announced yet, but I wanted as much in the bin as possible in case they don't come back for our next collection in 2 weeks time.
So no walk as my back wasn't up to it.

Today is my second weigh in today. Very annoyed as no loss this week, and I've been really good! I know, just keep going...

Busy morning, and hubby is finally out mowing so I have a chance to post.

Recap 7/11 R ~ very warm day, humidity decent & no rain in forecast YAY
    1) Actually woke up before alarm but took my time getting out of bed... still walked dog before too warm. Saw RJ & dog got treat & water, saw bunny (our area is overrun with bunnies this year: when hubby and I came home last evening, there were at least 3 in neighbor's front yard, one in yard few houses down, and we always have them in our backyard as well as other next door's backyard ACK. I will have no black eyed-Susans blooming this year b/c bunnies ate ALL the buds & sad me). Happy dog & happy me :sunglasses:
    2) Make meatloaf with grated zucchini (sister's recipe) ~ very good, although hubby likes my classic recipe better, summer squash, zucchini & mushroom casserole (new recipe) ~ excellent! for supper / no crazy snacking ~ some cheese & muffin / log all food / 80 oz. water ~ only 64 oz.
    3) Grocery shop ~ done / water flower pots with bloom boost / refill water jugs with plant food / refill watering cans / read / call Mom <3 sad that her cousin isn't visiting F but he & his wife both under the weather, so good call / wash dishes / declutter 5 items / other? watered all the other pots, digital decluttering  TA-DA!

JFT 7/12 F start of very hot & steamy weekend
    1) Woke up to alarm again to walk dog before heat built... temp was 68F when we left house, we only walked 3.07 miles, and I was dripping when we got home. Temp had risen to 76 in that short time. We saw a few people walking before heat gets bad, only one other dog walker. :sunglasses: happy dog & happy me
    2) Leftovers for supper (lots again, and that's ok, I don't have to cook) / no crazy snacking / log all food / 80 oz. water
    3) Load dishwasher & run / wash pots & cooking dishes / prep yard for hubby to mow (found dead squirrel under a tree, that's a hubby job to take care of LOL) / check roses for Japanese beetles & dispose of any (a few GRRR) / read / declutter 5 things / other?

Talked with girlfriend this morning. She wants to meet at concert along river tonight, but I will pass. It's facing west and the river, sitting in full sun. I don't enjoy the music when I'm sweating in 80F with no respite from the sun. So I'll meet her (& her hubby?) at farmers market tomorrow, at her favorite cold press coffee vendor in the prepped food section. Not my choice, but she loves it, and I will get something else. Need to remember ice packs for cooler tomorrow.

    About me:

      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):
January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]

    June: 6 days x1wk {including Bellin 10K}, 5x1, 2x2 {either very rainy or hot for 2 wks}

Hour commitment - I won't eat again until after 5 pm. None of the same foods at dinner as at lunch. I can still have my dose of metamusal.

@emgracewrites - I have a friend that suffers from IBS it’s a terrible thing to deal with. It’s a shame they haven’t come up with a cure for it yet.

@Snowflake1968 i also really wish there was a cure. Maybe one day. For now “all” I have to do is manage my stress, drink enough water, get enough sleep, and keep a very close eye on what I eat. Easy, right? 🤣

Finally stepped on the scale and was pleasantly surprised that I’ve actually gained a pound. I thought for sure I would have lost some due to not feeling great recently. So that’s my win for today.

Happy Friday! It's late but if I don't come on here, I'll fall back into "I'll do it tomorrow" procrastination again. ;)

@mytime6630 Joan, both of those quilts are really pretty! I don't know if I'd be brave enough to tackle either one! I recognize Donna Jordan...I must watch YouTube videos of her but I can't place where she's from off the top of my head. The one you made your grandson is SO COOL! It looks 3D to me in the photo, but I can see what you mean about it maybe not looking 3D close up. Still a very cool quilt. I'll have to share the quilt top i just finished for my granddaughter. It's her style, but was hard for me to work on because I'm not a black, white and red person. But I don't have to be--it's for her, right? :) I hope your daughter feels better soon!

@Snowflake1968 Good luck at your interview! Was it today or is it tomorrow?

@cschmitz110515 Enjoy the Farmer's Market tomorrow! I was thinking about going tomorrow, but I just don't do well in the heat and humidity. I'm going to have to pass on yet another one! I don't blame you for not wanting to go watch a concert by the river tonight...hot & humid. UGH.

@littleblackskirt Hope you feel better soon. The plantar fasciitis sounds painful! I've not had it, but my husband has and he has inserts from The Good Feet Store also. He won't go without them! I wonder if there is a store similar to it in Scotland? Why did I think you lived in the UK? Have I ever mentioned that Scotland is my dream trip? If I could take a trip anywhere in the world, it would be to Scotland.
