Good morning! Happy Monday! It’s a gray, windy cold day in Wisconsin. I guess I’d better learn to suck it up since we have 6 months of it ahead of us… 🥶😶‍🌫️

@more_freggies76 I think you’re correct as far as fasting labs and coffee…. Good luck with them! Hope all goes well.

@mytime6630 I’m the same! I posted every day religiously when I was working. Now I find myself not getting on my computer hardly ever, so I just forget! But this group is so helpful with keeping me mindful and I keep trying to get back to it. Plus, I miss hearing about how everyone is doing…. So, I just need to pick a time that works for me and form a new morning habit. Easier said than done! I’m sorry to hear your daughter is having issues. I know how difficult and stressful that is. But I’m happy to hear about your visit with your son and his family this weekend! How nice for you! The lights sound so pretty. I love it! And I can’t wait to see how the baby quilts turned out! 😃

Today, my plan is to spend time in my sewing room…light some candles, turn on the fireplace (it’s electric but still a nice ambiance), Hallmark Christmas movies and work on my quilt…. Sounds so peaceful and that’s what I’m going for. I have an MRI of my brain coming up next Tuesday and I’m starting to think about it too much. It’s something they’ll be doing every 6 months now because it’s somewhere that metastatic cancer can show up. I can’t control it, so I need to try to stop worrying about it. Stress and anxiety are not healthy. So, today I will control what I can…and I plan on having a nice day!

    Today's Top 3 Why's:
    1) Health
    2) Strength, so I can go up & down bleachers myself
    3) Strong immune system

    1. No BS 24 Hour plan and assess.
    2. Journal every bite and close MFP diary at the end of the day
    3. 64 oz water. No excuses. DRINK MORE WATER! Add herbal tea if you need to...just do it.
    4. Watch for hunger vs boredom or emotional eating. Am I truly hungry, or am I trying to "fix" a feeling? If hungry, eat something I planned. If emotional eating, what can I do instead?
    5. Intentional activity, 30 minutes. Get outside and "touch a tree"! Close activity rings on watch.
    6. Home Care To-Do's: Dust, bathroom and pack up Halloween decor.
    7. Digital Declutter (Ongoing): Delete obsolete or odd photos (5 minutes). Email clean up (5 minutes). Copy files from old laptop onto jump drive (5 minutes)
    8. 5 Things Declutter challenge.
    9. Self Care (30 minutes of something calming)
    10. Finish Claire’s quilt (binding). Quilt table runner and bind.
    11. Evning Routine

    This week I will…
-*Be intentional with the way I spend my time.
    * Focus on who is choosing me, wanting me, befriending me instead of worrying about who isn’t.
    * Actively search for joy in small moments.
    * Be kind every time I get the chance.
    * Be gentle with myself and with others. We are all human.
    * Remember that some things, some words and some people don’t require an emotional reaction from me. I can simply let it float away and move on with my life.
    * Put down my phone more and scroll less.
    * Refuse to feel guilty for finding pleasure in mundane things—a book, a game of pickleball, a phone call with a friend, a pumpkin spice latte…Life isn’t constantly about achieving this or that. Sometimes it’s about pure enjoyment.
    * Check on people I care about that I haven’t heard from in a while.
    * Work to forgive that person (whether they apologize or not).
    * Be in control of myself—my words, my actions, how I treat those around me and let the rest of it, rest.
    * Have pure intentions, but I will not people please. It’s okay if they don’t like me.
    * Try to carve out a little time with at least one person who is good for my soul.
    * Touch some grass.

Recap Sunday 11/10 ~ rainy day and temps mild for time of year
    1) Min. 5000 steps  not bad for a day totally inside
    2) Ham, green bean casserole & potatoes for supper ~ yum & leftovers / net calories zero (really need to watch portions today) ~ I didn't weigh any supper foods, so guesstimate was -248 / limit snacks & sweets ~ 2 mini hersheys / 80 oz. water ~ 64 ok
    3) Download cc txns, schedule pmt & claim cash reward / update budget s/s / review donation requests & write checks figured out amts now that we're on fixed income / stow more pots in basement / wash dishes ~ very pleased this got done / read / digital declutter / call Mom <3 / other? reviewed AARP renewal offer, tried chat to ask question but not open on weekends  TA-DA!

JFT M 11/11 ~ very strong winds today, no walk
    1) Leftovers for lunch & supper / limit snacks & sweets / net calories zero / 80 oz. water
    2) Min. 5000 steps / PT exercises
    3) Call Mom & arrange new dates for visit / text family about date changes / text youngest brother re vet questions / wash bedding / put away clean dishes / contact AARP re renewal / usual Mon. garbage chores / choir rehearsal 6:30 (hubby & dog will take me & pick me up) / set alarm (be at service station 8 a.m. for new brake pads) / digital declutter / other?

Late last night, hubby asked if I would be willing to get second vet opinion for dog's cyst on toe. Neither one of us is keen on toe amputation. I agreed, so we're seeing a different vet on Wed. afternoon. Hopefully they will suggest something less drastic, but until we know, we're keeping the surgery appt. I texted my youngest brother to ask if his eldest daughter (a vet since May 2023) would be willing to discuss our questions; haven't heard back yet. Also means I changed my visit to my parents from Wed. to Thurs. and maybe reschedule my walk with my aunt. I think both hubby and I will feel better once we have another opinion, whatever it is. I am completely stressed over this, and keep telling myself, she's a dog not a person, and to Let Go and Let God. Hard to do, but nothing else I can do.

Yesterday was good. I logged, I was in goal, I taught spin class and I didn't eat any snacks. Found out Merlin has Kennel Cough so our weekend plans are canceled. We were going to go to a college basketball rivalry game Friday night and then to a football game Saturday for our alma mater. Oh well, guess I'll do laundry and snuggle the dogs. Tonight is trivia, but I'm driving so my calories will be in check. Tim has been having vision issues the past 2 weeks and found out yesterday that he has an abnormality in his left eye and damage to both corneas due to excessive dryness. Who even knew that was a thing. Anyway, he isn't to drive more than he has to. Basically he can drive to and from work.

    JFT Wednesday
    - Up with pup at 4:30 or 5:00
    - Tag out with Tim at 6:00

    2) Figure out supper / log all food / limit snacks & sweets ~ siggi's skyr, 10 M&Ms (seems to be working for me again yay) / 80 oz. water yes
    3) Car in for brake pads all 4 wheels 8 a.m. (pick up when? after service project) / reschedule hair appt. now that visit to folks is rescheduled / LWML meeting 1:00 followed by service project ~ done faster than I expected yay / put away clean bedding / digital declutter / read / other? rehearsed song for Sunday, finance tasks, read more updates on my healthcare system & ins. co. negotiations prior to my Medicare renewal (not looking good at this point) TA-DA!

    JFT W 11/13
    1) Walked 3.69 mi  happy me
    2) Figure out supper / log all food / limit snacks & sweets / 80 oz. water
    3) Dog to diff. vet for second opinion 2:00 ~ yay, vet confirmed toe amputation as best option / drive required mileage with new brake pads & get tires retorqued ~ done / gas in car for tomorrow's road trip ~ done / stop at bread shop ~ done / research/order breads for Thanksgiving with family / rehearse song for Sunday / pack for overnight visit to Mom & Dad's / digital declutter / read / other?

Hubby and I really liked the vet we saw for second opinion on cyst on dog's toe. He confirmed that, with cyst location & other details, toe amputation was the best option for treatment. Cyst was never going to go away otherwise, could be or become cancerous (although dog is perfectly healthy otherwise), and could ignite further problems. Dog licking & fussing at it not helping, and she probably will never stop (which is why we've been cleaning & wrapping; learned dog figured out how to access her bandage even with large cone on LOL). Dr. Ted was very nice and explained all details so hubby was comfortable (huge win). Vet called our dog "old" (she's 12) and I was offended on her behalf, which he took in good spirit. Vet also explained that where we have the surgery scheduled, they have the better equipment to cause less bleeding. He also confirmed that, once completely healed, dog and I should be able to resume our long walks no problem. So hubby and I, while not at peace with toe amputation, are at ease with surgery plan. Huge weight off my mind and heart. Thank You God for prayers answered!

    About me:
    I'm Carmela
This is my lifestyle. It's. Not. A. Diet.
    Height 5'4"
    67 yrs old
Reside in Green Bay, WI, USA

    2024 Goals:
    1) Ultimate goal weight 150#... I'll be thrilled if I can get back down to 160# this year
    • Post weekly weigh-in on MFP for accountability. Saturday a.m. is my "official" weigh-in day, and I track daily on a separate app (for the visual). My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale.
    • Take measurements & log on MFP every month end
    2) Plan meals most days & prelog meals/snacks whenever possible on MFP
    • Try new recipes Unfortunately, no wall oven until mid-Feb or later & sad me, but try slow cooker & stove recipes... wall oven installed 2/26. Ppl
      * lentil rice sausage tortellini soup (internet) ~ very good, recipe is keeper
      * glazed lemon cookies (internet search) ~ everyone loved them at Easter dinner
      * rhubarb cobbler (in my first ever cookbook BH&G) ~ very good, I want to try with other fruits this summer
      * yellow cake (BH&G cookbook) ~ I followed instructions closely & blended well, very good with rhubarb sauce
      * white chicken enchiladas (newspaper) ~ very good, although 2 tortillas with recipe as written 846 calories (created in MFP recipes)
      * Greek yogurt almond butter breakfast parfait (newsletter) ~ terrific, if high in calories... maybe tweak
      * garlic scape basil pesto (internet blog) ~ excellent! tried as recommended with pasta (used up my radiatore)
      * summer squash, zucchini, mushroom casserole (TOH) ~ excellent! & good way to use squash & zucchini
      * zucchini meatloaf (sister) ~ good but hubby prefers classic recipe
      * moussaka America's Test Kitchen tv show ~ very tasty, nice size portions & filling, though complicated with four distinct layers & many prep steps ~ nice to have an alternate eggplant recipe
      * peach cobbler (BH&G) used qt fresh peaches grown in Ripon
      * ratatouille (loveandlemons.com) very good vegetarian dish, uses lots of late summer/early fall veggies
      * potato leek soup (AllRecipes.com) ~ very good alternate leek soup recipe, easy to make... chopping up so many potatoes was the worst part LOL

Today just sucked... Work was ok, but mom called and told me she had roaches. I told her I would get some over the counter bait and spray until I could get an exterminator there. So I called exterminator and did a Walmart curbside order to speed up things. Well the order was only 3 items and it was still delayed so I had to go in and get the things myself and cancel the online order. Exterminators scheduled between 10-12 tomorrow. Went to mom's, they weren't roaches. Not 100% sure if they are carpenter ants or swarmer termites. Of course I had roach bait. I put it down, and the spray was a broad spectrum spray, so hopefully it will help because the bugs were all over the counters in the kitchen.
I accidentally splashed myself in the face with the roach bait as I was setting up the pucks. Ugh... Not only did I have creepy crawlies I smelled of roach killer. Anyway I finished up and went to trivia. I was rather upset by all the bug stuff and trying to determine if mom is capable of living alone from a sanitation perspective. Almost went out after trivia, but decided that was not the most responsible decision so I headed home. On the way home I hit a deer. I stopped and just bumped it's back end, so there was no damage to the vehicle, but it just added to the cruddy day.

This morning I called the exterminators back. They said neither carpenter ants or swarmer termites are common this time of year. They rearranged the appointment for tomorrow so it is an inspection rather than a roach clean out. They need to figure out what the bugs are before they can get rid of them. The only good part of this is that I don't need to clean out the cabinets and move the appliances for the inspection.

Ughhh... Today is a play it by ear day.

Our son and his family are flying in tomorrow, so I've been busy baking and getting stuff ready. They have 5 kids.. so there will be 10 of us. Normally we go out to eat.. but with 10 of us, we knew how expensive that would be. But we go out to eat because one grandson will only eat chicken strips or hamburgers.. he is super picky eater! Another granddaughter is a vegetarian.
But.. we decided this time, since they are only here for the weekend, to grill at home.. and eat at home. So much easier to visit also. But, I stress about all that. I'm not used to entertaining, and I always worry that someone will not like what I cook.
So I make a cold vegetable pasta salad.. that looks good. I am planning on making macaroni & cheese in the instapot, baked beans in the crockpot, and we are grilling.. bbq chicken, hamburgers, chicken sausages from trader joes, veggie burgers, and shrimp kabobs. Plus, french fries, chips, a large tray of finger veggies, fruit bowl. I want is simple.. because I know we will be out running and doing stuff with them all... so I need something quick to just put out and fix.
But.. heres what I'm regretting. I baked. I love to bake.. so I made chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies, rice krispy treats (sons favorite). Then.. I didn't know if they would be here for breakfast (they are staying at a VRBO house not far from us). So I made pumpkin bread, zucchini bread, and bought muffins from trader joes. Ha.. I told hubby I probably spent more than we would have if we went out to eat.
And.. I've gained. I've gained like 5 pounds. Part has been my habits have been bad because of daughter issues again, but part.. is all this junk I'm making. My weight is now up to 211. My all time highest weight was 217.
So.. I need to get this under control. I get so frustrated.. but I know what I need to do.
Once they leave on sunday.. I think I will give a lot of the baked good to neighbors. I don't need all this stuff here because I eat it. I should know better.
anyhow.. wish me luck this weekend that all goes well.. that everyone is happy with the meal.
So, goals for the weekend will be to not worry about how I look, enjoy the time with our son and grandkids, hopefully we will get our daughter out here with us also... and get back on track when they leave.. get rid of all the chips, cookies, etc

    Recap W 11/13
    1) Walked 3.69 mi  happy me
    2) Figure out supper ~ more leftovers / log all food / limit snacks & sweets ~ only 10 M&Ms, so happy I'm doing better with this / 80 oz. water ~ 64 is ok
    3) Dog to diff. vet for second opinion 2:00 ~ yay, vet confirmed toe amputation as best option / drive required mileage with new brake pads & get tires retorqued ~ done / gas in car for tomorrow's road trip ~ done / stop at bread shop ~ done / research/order breads for Thanksgiving with family / rehearse song for Sunday / pack for overnight visit to Mom & Dad's / digital declutter / read / other? washed dishes, cleaned hummer feeder for season, wrote charity checks, readied envelopes for mailing  TA-DA!

JFT R 11/14 ~ rainy morning so no walk, guess today will be rest day
    1) Lunch prepped & packed to take to folks (they will eat their noon "dinner" before I arrive) / supper will be whatever leftovers Dad has made so log best guess / log all food / 64 oz. water
    2) Pack for overnight visit / drive safely / be patient with Mom & Dad / wash bedding (in basement) for Mom / put winter sheets on my upstairs bed / other?

I leave shortly on my 90 min. drive to visit Mom & Dad and stay overnight. Hopefully aunt and I will get a walk in tomorrow before I leave. With clocks moved back and shrinking daylight hours, I won't be staying as late now that winter's on its way. I don't want to drive at dusk or dark, especially with deer entering rutting season. Not hitting a deer is a big goal.

    About me:

    3) Exercise 5-6x per week (minimum 4x):
January: 5 days x2wks, 4x1, 3x1, 1x1 [1 wk lots of snow & 1 wk bitter cold so shoveling, treadmill & PT, 1 wk 4 day trips out of town]

      • In 2022 I logged 500.4 miles, or 805km (knee issues).
      5) At least 7,500 steps per day
      • I can earn $10 every month on my Medicare Advantage Plan with 10+ days of 7,500 steps [noticed 7/12 that requirement reduced to 5,000 steps, but I'll continue with goal of 7,500]:
        Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr / May / June / July / Aug / Sept / Oct /
      6) Participate in my favorite area races ~ I walk, I do not run
      • Registered early (shoot, didn't get selected randomly for waiver of fee) on 12.29.23 for 6.8.24 Bellin 10K race ~ light rain most of race, steady rain last mile or so :star: chip time 1:42:35 ave. pace 16:31 (first half 16:50 second half 16:12) overall 3,136 out of 3,463 / females 1,560 out of 1,792 / F65-69yo 30 out of 48 ~ not as fast as I used to go, but still finished my 27th Bellin overall (their 48th year)

@pridesabtch that really was a crappy day! I’m glad you weren’t hurt when you hit the deer and your car isn’t damaged. Good luck with the exterminator’s inspection!

@mytime6630 Have a wonderful visit with your son and grands! I think your menu sounds wonderful…something for everyone. Perfect! Nobody will go hungry I’m sure! Good idea to give the leftovers to your neighbors. Your neighbors will love you for it and so will your hips (joking)! 😂. Another idea, you could maybe freeze the baked good and have a head start on Christmas baking…🤷🏻‍♀️

@cschmitz110515 I’m sorry to hear about your dog needing a toe amputation. I’m glad you got a second opinion so you know it’s the right course, but still…poor pup. 😔😢

Yesterday, I spent time in my sewing room organizing fabric. I realized I don’t spend much time down there because it’s so cluttered, it drives me nuts! So, I began sorting fabric into 1+ yards, 1/2 yd pieces, less than 1/2 yard and fat quarters…. Wow, does that make a difference! I still have a lot to go, but I’m encouraged because the difference is noticeable.

I finished the black, white and red quilt for my granddaughter and decided to wash it before sending and the red fabric bled into the white and totally ruined it. I washed it 4 times, got most of the “pink” spots out but it tore up the batting inside and the quilt is pretty much ruined. I’m just sick.

Anyway, I want to post my goals to stay accountable. So here goes…

    Have a great day!

    Today's Top 3 Why's:
    1) looser fitting clothes
    2) Strength, so I can go up & down bleachers myself
    3) Strong immune system

    1. No BS 24 Hour plan and assess. 😊
    6. Home Care To-Do's: Dust, bathroom, laundry
    7. Digital Declutter (Ongoing): Delete obsolete or odd photos (5 minutes). Email clean up (5 minutes).
    8. 5 Things Declutter challenge.
    9. Self Care (30 minutes of something calming)
    10. Quilt table runner and bind.
    11. Evening Routine

    * Touch some grass.

Hi all! Hope all is well! Sorry for disappearing again. November's been super busy, and I haven't been feeling well. Not sure what's up, so it's off to the doc today. I'll get back to setting goals soon.
