@martaindale ... Savanah is so beautiful! One of my favorite cities. Did you find Forrest Gump’s bench?
Hadn't thought about Forrest Gump for such a long time. Such a good movie! Looks like it was shot in Chippewa Square, not far from where we are staying, but the bench isn't there. Just a movie prop. Still the park looks lovely so we'll have to check it out!5 -
@martaindale Good luck tomorrow! It looks like you picked a really neat location!
I tried to do my second run as a speed workout, but I was mentally too beat to carry it out to the end. However I still got most of what I was planning done and the splits were ok. I ran 7km. I’m feeling down about bailing mid-workout but I did get a total of 15 km in today, so I’m definitely being too hard on myself.
225.6/200km for February.8 -
01.02 6.5km 51min 7:50/km - Goal pace repeats
02.02 6.4km 52min 8:08/km - slow
04.02 6.5km 51min 7:58/km - slow
07.02 6.0km 49min 8:04/km - 15 short intervals
12.02 1.0km 8min 7:44/km - just checking whether running works
13.02 5.4km 43min 8:00/km - 12x stride repeats
14.02 7.2km 59min 8:10/km - slow
21.02 3.0km 24min 8:03/km - slow
23.02 3.0km 24min 7:56/km - slow
44.98km/103km, 36.7km behind
Running still not quite good again but getting better. Doing slowish runs for now just to get back into running.
London, as someone asked: No, I've been there so many times. I have no idea how often, mind. I still do find things that I've not seen before. Not taking about tourist sights but basically just strolling around. This time my theme was Brutalist architecture, plus visiting charity shops for cookbooks.7 -
Bright, sunny, spring-like day today. Great day to be outside.
Yesterday I drove my wife's car to the garage and left it. I have run the route home a couple of times and always enjoy it. The garage is outside of town, then through town and into the residential neighborhoods.

Today was a short run. 3.5 miles. It was a bit cooler than yesterday at 43°F. I still wore shorts and a t-shirt, but I was a little chilly and I wore gloves. The moon was even prettier this morning than it was yesterday. I enjoyed the run. I love when it is dark at the start and light at the end of the run. It is my favorite time of morning to be outside.
Good luck on your race @martaindale! And you too @TheMrWobbly!

Welcome @codygirlfriday!
@AlphaHowls timmy had a good run; it was time
@martaindale just run by feel tomorrow. I'm sure you will get into race mode at some point
7 miles this evening. Pretty warm at 73F, but a stiff northerly 14mph wind helped some.
Planned on a slow easy run to get ready for a long run tomorrow, but that rarely works out. Hoping I can take it easy(er) tomorrow.11 -
Sounds like a fun run this morning @martaindale . Good luck with your race tomorrow. Looking forward to hearing how you do.
Welcome @codygirlfriday . Looks like you are doing great. Glad your injuries are better and you are getting back to running. I count my runs and fast walks - usually greater than 3.5 mph.
Thanks @daria0919 It's nice to hear that he was such a nice, family man. I'm glad it helped your father to not be in pain all the time.
I'm glad you got the colonoscopy @Teresa502 . I hope all was well and look forward to hearing about your hike/camping trip. It's going to be cold again this weekend.
Good luck with your HM too @TheMrWobbly . I don't think I realized it was this weekend.
It sounds like you did great to me @Laurz9191 . We are our own worst critics.
Hang in there @yirara . You are doing great.
Great way to get your run in @emptydog .
Nice run @kgirlhart .

I worked until 4:45 today, in the two year old class room. I'll just say they knew there was a full moon.
I ran a couple of errands afterwards, so didn't get home until 6.
I went out for a walk on the driveway, but added some running in when it started to rain. I finished the mile, but didn't want to get completely soaked. I was fine, as it would rain pretty hard for a couple of minutes, slack off, stop, and repeat.7 -
A peaceful after work run. It's nice having the light, and a beautiful red sunset.

I was supposed to run yesterday but my husband suggested we check out the track they’re making in a new reserve just up the road from us - his thinking is it could be a handy place for me to do an easy 5-10km. So we explored and discovered that while there may be plans for an all weather track, currently the trails are marked with colour coded posts and that’s it. Otherwise it’s just farmland, chopped up paddocks complete with sheep and loads of poo. I couldn’t run there because of the ankle-twisting hazard inherent in every step. Was a nice walk in the country nevertheless and we figured we could make a fun orienteering/adventure hike for the kids out of it.
Today I was back in the garden for another four hours and have weeded and dead headed everything now in anticipation of rain tomorrow night (fingers crossed, it’s so dry).
I’m hoping for a long run tomorrow but am rather tired. Busy rolling my right legs and back to loosen things up - gardening is one very long squat!8 -

I live in between mile markers 10 and 11 on the Marathon route. So will look out for you when you know your number etc!
Who are you running for, again? Do you have a justgiving ?
Thank you for asking @tarun_yadavA I am running for the stroke association, happy to bore anyone on how much good they do. My page is https://events.stroke.org.uk/fundraisers/andrewwalkington
I am an accountant, of sorts @quilteryoyo and yes, I wear a lot of grey!
Thank you all for your support for Sunday. I am treating it as a training run rather than breaking any records. The rain is due to come down heavily some point after 12 noon so 2.5 hours has to be the target.
Enjoy your race tomorrow @martaindale
Have a great weekend everyone!8 -
Afternoon everyone!
Left it late... Feel a bit under the weather. Got a run in though... 4.36M (at 09"58). Streak moves upto 55.
Safe to say the wife isn't supportive of my Streak chasing. "If you make yourself worse, don't expect..." yaddi yadda yadda.
Bleurgh.
Anyhoo... @martaindale Good luck today! Look forward to hearing all about the race! ... And the post race pig out! 😊
@TheMrWobbly inspirational stuff mate! Donated a small something! 🙌🏽
@ContraryMaryMary I'm in the minority here... Prefer concrete/pavement... For literally the two reasons you mentioned. 💩 And falling over / injury8 -
@ContraryMaryMary I'm glad you and your husband (and kids?) checked out the planned trail before you tried to run on it. I guess they haven't published a planned completion date. I hope they get it done soon. Sounds like you would be a great place to run. Gardening is hard on the legs and back. You got in plenty of exercise without running.
Enjoy your race tomorrow @TheMrWobbly ! Accounts can have really long hours, I've heard. I'm glad you are making time for yourself and your health.
@tarun_yadavA Sorry you are a bit under the weather. I hope you feel better tomorrow and getting out for your run helped rather than hurt. Wouldn't want the wife to be able to say, "I told you so."

I'm a hard surface runner too. I love a track. On my vacation I found a big housing development up in the hills that was under construction. The roads were cut and graded perfectly smooth for paving. That was the best! No cars and a big wide hilly perfectly smooth dirt road.5 -

Race day! I decided to see how I felt after a few miles and ended up racing. Race report in the spoiler. Tldr: missed my PR by 8 secs.Skidaway Island is on the coast of Georgia, near Savannah. It's a small race and the course is very scenic. Overall very well organized and supported.
Conditions this morning were good for racing - upper 40s, clear, reasonable humidity. It was a single lane in and out so parking ate up more time than anticipated and I didn't have a chance to warm up. By the time we got parked, put on sunscreen, walked to the start, and made a pit stop, I only had 8 mins until start.
The first mile was ok, a little slow but to be expected because it was also acting as my warmup. After that I had a few good miles and I hit the halfway point at just under 1:01, so I felt good about my chances for a PR and kept pushing. In the back half, I had a few tough miles and after 2 in a row over 9:20 pace I thought about letting off the gas. But, then I ended up next to a guy that kept trying to pass me but would then get in front of me and slow down. While this was super annoying it also pushed me to a fast mile as I got around him and ultimately left him behind.
At that point my runners math seemed like it would be close but a PR was still possible so I went for it. I really thought I had it. Not by a lot, but maybe a few seconds. It was really disappointing to see my watch at the end and realize it wasn't as close as I thought. But I am happy with how I did overall. I didn't feel particularly strong coming into this race but ended up being in better shape than I thought.
We got back to our Airbnb and I'm sorry to tell @tarun_yadavA that I haven't really eaten much. I made a second cup of coffee and had some snacks including a local made praline, which was tasty. I'm about to get cleaned up and we will find something for lunch but it probably won't be carnage to borrow a word! 😉
I do however have a bottle of wine chilling that the Airbnb host left for us. So, a glass or two of wine will be had later today!6 -
chris_in_cal wrote: »I'm a hard surface runner too.
I like to race on the road but do fun or easy runs on trails. I really do like running trails but races are too hard of an effort for me to also add in the effort of trail. However, the slower pace and nice scenery is great for training!

40.00/85.00 miles
I did a treadmill session. It was tough for some reason that I couldn't quite identify. I did what I set out to do, but almost cut the run short....not that it was long to begin with. I did the run/walk at 4.5-5.0/4.0 mph. Avg pace was 13:45 min/mile. Avg HR was 118 with a max of 139 bpm.
This has been a hard month for me and I am working 2 days next week and have a follow up heart CT scan on the 28th, so I am hoping to make 60 total miles. Next month will be better!8 -
@quilteryoyo I feel you... hopefully next month will be a new beginning to start feeling fresh.
@martaindale great job on your race! Hope you feel proud of yourself.
Got 10 miles in this morning. Wasn't as easy as I would have liked, but glad to have gotten at least double digits.8 -

A few variables and a few seconds aside, you are in absolute top form. Running at PR speeds. Congratulations, it's so inspiring seeing the work you put in to get there. I can't wait to see what other magic you pull out of your hat.7 -
Thanks for all the welcome messages! As you all probably relate- my mental health suffers when I can’t run.
Today I got out and did my longest run of the year (probably my longest run since the summer) and I feel so good about it!
Tomorrow I have a long drive and likely won’t get a lot of foot miles in but I’m going to try.

@martaindale well done, getting near a PR without actively working for it is amazing. And yes, I’ve raced with ‘that guy’ too. Always satisfying to leave them in your dust.
All the best for your half @TheMrWobbly, I hope you have an enjoyable run.
@tarun_yadavA, a supportive spouse is a wonderful thing. Mine’s pretty good - happy for me to run - but not the level that has him cheering me on at the finish line.
As for road vs trail running, I am a road runner at heart too. I’m far too lazy to want to constantly watch my step. When I run in the forest I don’t often head onto the single track trails and instead stick to the forestry roads - some of which are pretty rough but at least there are no tree roots trying to kill me.
My road running options have shrunk since moving to the country - running on the roads around here is not fun. There’s no verge/berm, the camber is annoying, and the odds of being collected by a Ranger Rover are high. I’m still really close to the city so there’s lots of traffic. I do miss running suburban streets and will occasionally drive to find one.
On that note, I’m heading out into the forest now for my Sunday long run. Hoping to loop twice to get me my own half. If I run out of steam, I’ll take the 12k and be happy.
And talking of happy, it’s raining!

@tarun_yadavA For my post-race meal I went to... BRUNCH! My husband found a place called Shuk serving Mediterranean fusion brunch. Like nothing I've ever had before and soooo good. I had a pita stuffed with egg, cheese, arugula, and harissa. Also had a cocktail (limonana) with lemon juice, mint, vodka, seltzer. So refreshing and not sweet.
Also baklava ice cream. Delish!!11 -

____________
54.84 miles
30.16 miles to go
Had an incredibly demanding, stressful and exhausting week at work last week - so much so that it impacted my recovery. My RHR was not lowering overnight and despite the fact that I was not running, my Garmin training readiness score went from green to yellow to red as the week progressed. Spent time mindfully recovering last night and woke up in the green so headed out for my 8 mile run that felt surprisingly OK given how the week went. I am disappointed by how far behind my mileage goal for the month I am - I knew last week I was dangerously close to missing it and had been hoping to slip in a few extra miles here and there to get back on track. Instead, I put myself further behind with so many skipped runs. Going to see how many miles I can reasonably get between now and Thursday - but also need to listen to my body and not push past limits just to make an arbitrary goal.
7 -
Great race and race report @martaindale . Funny about the guy that kept passing you. It brought out your competitor spirit. Sounds like an enjoyable race too. The post race brunch sounds, and looks, really good.
Thanks @Scott6255 . Great run.
Nice run @codygirlfriday .
@AlphaHowls It was really windy here too. Just walking to the mailbox was enough for me. It was COLD. You did great to run in it.
Glad you got rain @ContraryMaryMary . I hope your long run goes well.
@Leigh_b Listening to your body and realizing that life gets in the way sometimes is a win. You are doing great. Feb was hard for several of us. Not getting injured trying to meet some arbitrary goal is the highest priority.
4 -
@quilteryoyo - thanks for the words of encouragement - I think February didn't go for either of us like we planned.3
