44.00/85.00 miles
Didn't post my walk yesterday. It was one mile on the treadmill between church and going to visit my niece and her family in their new house. We had a really nice visit with them
Today, I worked at daycare all day - 7:45 - 4:45, two year old class. They were so good today. The full moon Friday really did affect them. It was like night and day from then to today. Monday's are usually tough days since they've been home for 2 days and don't want to leave mom and dad.
When I got home, it was so nice out at 71F (21.7C) that I had to do driveway laps for my workout. I did a wun that ended up with a 15:04 min/mile pace. I felt I went faster, but just glad I got in 3 miles today.11 -
Good morning everyone! ☺️
Got in 5M (at 09"48).
@SummerSkier Ha! You're funny.
Haven't even made it to the 2M mark ... And you're talking about the whole year already!
( @AlphaHowls probably sitting there reading "2 months?","that's cute" and eye rolling away! LOL. Joke!
But serious new found appreciation for how hard this is commitment wise!)
@quilteryoyo haha! No, wife doesn't wear pull-up diapers! 😂
What's the 'translated to American' for a pull-up? Chin up??
PS: don't really say diaper here either. "Nappy"8 -
Good morning!
Nice and easy run this morning. Nothing eventful, still cold at a little above freezing, which meant hard dirt and no mud . I ran 10.3km. Tomorrow I want to get some longer speed work in.
258.3/200km for February. Aiming to reach 280.10 -
-
Urg. That was tough. A real struggle run this morning, which was disappointing given yesterday was a rest day. It’s mostly hormonal but my right hamstring is also a bit niggly. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow. Might do it one more light run or have another rest day.10
-
No running yet, but might try a short one tomorrow. My husband and I went to a Pilates class earlier today then I did a 30ish minute walk on my treadmill through a rainforest in Australia. Overall I'm feeling pretty good. Back to work tomorrow but luckily it's a short week.8

Enjoyed the strangely warm weather we are getting. It was 58 degrees F at 5:30 this morning - in Michigan - in February. It is supposed to be snowing tomorrow morning. Seriously, we have a Winter Weather Advisory warning us about snow and ice starting at 4 am. Glad I got the chance to run without all my winter gear - but it will be back to it all again tomorrow.
7 -
@tarun_yadavA I have heard both Pull up and chin up. I knew about "nappy" but had forgotten. Great run.
You're doing great sticking to the plan @daria0919 .
I hope your hamstring is okay @ContraryMaryMary . Taking it easy another day is probably smart.
The weather is crazy this year @Leigh_b . We were 68 today and the mountains have a winter storm warning here too, for tonight and tomorrow.

Did 2 miles on the driveway after work today. I walked 0.35 mile, ran/walked 2 x 0.30/0.15 miles, ran 0.4 miles and walked to get a total of 2 miles. It was harder than I thought it should have been. My avg pace for the runs was 11:50 min/mile. Avg HR was 133 with a max of 154 bpm.8 -
'pull ups' your hands face away from you gripping. 'Chin ups' your hands face toward you. 🤣🤣
I am a road runner. i have no ACLs so I don't lift my knees very well and tend to stumble too much on uneven ground. Kind of why I don't like hiking in the woods much either. Well - that's probably because I might have done too much of it in the military. too. that and 'camping'.
Decided to go for it and try to avg 5 mile/day in Feb. A bit of a stretch but adding a mile or two on a second easy jog either at lunch or after work vs doing a walk helps. It had been overly warm here the past week but about to change tomorrow as March roars in like a lion I think.🦁🦁
Thanks for creating our March challenge @alphahowls ✅
@quilteryoyo your streak continues and even if you had a challenging month you still did SOMETHING every day. well done!

It was really nice running weather this morning at 63°F. I ran 6 miles in shorts and a tank top. It should have been a great run, but for some reason it felt like a struggle. I guess they can't all be awesome runs. It was 95°F yesterday and 86° today, but it is supposed to get cold again tomorrow. I guess I'll have to pull the sleeves and gloves back out.
@alphahowls Glad you were able to get the tire taken care of. My daughter's car doesn't have a spare either. She found out when she had blowout on her way back to Austin. Her car did have a "tire repair kit" instead. It was a can of Fix a Flat. 🙄

Good morning everyone,
I did my planned speed work session this morning. It went well (as in I finished it and reached my time targets). Tomorrow I want to get in one more run for February. It was just above freezing this morning. I can't wait for it to warm up a little. I ran 11.1 km.
269,4/200km for February.

Morning all
Got in another 5 (at 09"22 ... Slightly quicker as had to be back for a call)
@SummerSkier haha.
Of course you as a military lady would know the difference !☺️
(Can't do either - so theres that!)7 -
I've only got 33 miles for the month so far so I'm not going to hit my 50 mile target. It's bugging me a lot. It's just been a busy up and down month, between doing a course and crap weather. Fingers crossed for a run tomorrow but it's a washout today.8
-
Looks like I will be finishing the month with 66.9 running miles. I didn’t quite reach my 75 mile goal but I’m good with it. I’ve been out climbing mountains on the Appalachian Trail for the past few days. I hiked 52.50 miles up and down the mountains of Georgia. My right ankle is a little tender from so much trail time so I’m giving it a couple of days rest. Other parts are sore too but that’s to be expected. I’m taking my dad to have a pacemaker installed tomorrow so I will be at the hospital with him and doubt if I will have a chance to run anyway. Details of my hiking adventure are in the spoiler if anyone wants to read.
Thanks for setting up March @AlphaHowls!
Congratulations on your half marathon @martaindale! You did fabulous!
I finally got caught up on reading, hugging and liking several pages of posts. Well done everyone! On Friday, we drove to Georgia, parked the car at a hostel and had a shuttle driver take us to the start of the Appalachian Trail on Springer Mountain. The actual trailhead was a mile from the road so we had to do an out and then back past the parking lot and up the trail. We hiked 9.45 miles that afternoon (1513 feet ascent/1753 feet descent) to set up our tents at Hawk Mountain shelter. We had just enough time to get set up before it got dark so after a quick bite to eat I crawled into my sleeping bag. I shivered for about 30 minutes but then finally got warm and stayed fairly warm all night.
Me on Springer Mountain
We broke down camp, packed up and were back on the trail by 6:00 am on Saturday morning. Temp was 30F when we started hiking. We hiked 12.62 miles (3305 feet ascent/3261 feet descent) to Woody Gap. When we got to Woody Gap, the temperature had dropped, it was windy and sleeting so we decided to call it a day. We didn’t hit our mileage goal but it was either stop here at a major road intersection where we could get a lift or hike on until the next spot which we wouldn’t have reached until after 9:30 pm. It was supposed to get down to 20F that night so we had already reserved a cabin for the night. A lovely trail angel named Georgia gave us a ride from Woody Gap to our cabin.
Random stream crossing on trail.
On Sunday morning, we arranged for a shuttle ride back to Woody Gap and was on the trail by 7:00 am. It was 21F but we warmed up quickly on the hills.
Sunrise from Preacher's Rock
We hiked 16.77 miles (4,443 feet ascent/4483 feet descent) into Tenastee Gap. We saw a lot of people on Blood Mountain and the views were spectacular. You could even see the skyscrapers in Atlanta in the very far distance. Because we had strayed from our mileage plan and due to camping restrictions in that area, we got picked up by a local hostel and stayed there Sunday night. My first time staying at a hostel. My friend and I were the only females in a bunk room with 7 guys…it was an interesting night.
This is a tree at the road crossing in Neel's Gap. Many thru-hikers make it to Neel's Gap and decide the adventure is just not what they thought it would be. Legend has it that they throw their shoes up in the tree when they call it quits and head back home.
Monday morning we were back on trail around 6:30 am. It was 32F but the sun soon popped out and it warmed up to the upper 60s by afternoon. We hiked 15 miles (3539 feet ascent/4196 feet descent).
Filtering some water on trail.
We got back to our car around 4:00 pm. We then drove south to Amacolola State Park, had a nice meal and spent the night at the lodge. The next morning we hiked out to the Falls and checked out the AT Visitor Center before hitting the road home.

I noticed that I had my mileage all messed up, but I think I have it straightened out now.
Yesterday the weather was perfect, but the run sucked. Today, the weather wasn't great, but the run was really good. I guess you just never know. It was cold today and really windy, and I had to wear pants, and gloves and two pair of sleeves. But the run was good. I felt really good and ran 6.2 miles. (I had to make it 10K) I did see a few dogs. There were two that were over by my sister's mother-in-law's house. I re-routed to avoid them. I'll have to see if my sister knows anything about them. One was with a person, so even though he startled me a little, I soon realized he wasn't alone. And one didn't pay any attention to me at all. I thought about re-routing, but he was in the street outside of the hospital and an ambulance had just pulled in, so I decided I would take my chances with him. If you are going to get bit by a dog, outside the hospital in front of an EMT is a pretty good place to be.
This may be it for me for February. There is rain in the forecast for the morning, and if it is cold and rainy tomorrow I might just take a rest day. I have met my goal, so I'll just play it by ear and see what it is like in the morinig. Thanks for setting us up for March @AlphaHowls.
@Teresa502 Thanks for sharing your hiking pictures! They are awesome! I would love to hike the AT, but am just going to have to live vicariously through you.
@martaindale Didn't you run the Possum's Revenge at PK a couple of years ago? What did you think of it? My co-worker was asking me if I'd be interested in doing it. I've never run trails, and I don't know how technical it is. Do you think it would be an appropriate race for a first time trail runner? If I did it I would do the 8-mile option.

I did! I really enjoyed that race. The trails aren't super technical but there were a few places where I did some power hiking. I think you would be fine as a new trail runner. I did not have a lot of trail experience when I did it and the ones I had done before were super flat Houston trails.
It's a beautiful park. I stayed at a little cabin on the lake and used the short walk in as a warm up. It's also the race that earned me my favorite medal ever - a possum holding an ice cream cone riding a shark jumping out of the water and over flames with a rainbow in the background. The absolute best!6 -
chris_in_cal wrote: »I still marvel at you power achievers who get up at the crack of darkness and run in the morning.
It's so much harder for me to run if I don't get it done in the morning. I love being out as the sun rises too.
@Teresa502 Thanks for the AT recap. That was quite a trip. It's crazy to me that you could see ATL from the mountain top! The hostel would be a hard no for me. I enjoy camping. I love hotels. I have zero desire to sleep in a room with multiple strangers.6 -

2/28: 3.1 miles
Slow and easy to see how things are feeling. Nothing too serious, just a little residual soreness in my right knee and calf. I think the camber on the road at the end is the culprit. I ran that same road on the way out but my legs were fresh and I wasn't trying to push the pace yet. But, anyway, it's getting better. No speed work for a bit and focusing on running to enjoy it, not as training.9 -

Thanks @SummerSkier . You did great this month. I guess I didn't realize that was the difference in pull up and chin ups. I learned something today.
@kgirlhart Great job hanging in there yesterday and getting the run done despite it being a struggle. That's really "hot" weather for Feb. Glad today's run was better. I chuckled at "If you are going to get bit by a dog, outside the hospital in front of an EMT is a pretty good place to be." So true.
Hang in there @Mari33a . I'm probably going to have my lowest mileage month in a really long time. Sometimes, things happen that are beyond our control. We aren't failure's though, because we will try again next month!
No wonder you are a bit sore @Teresa502 ! I loved your hiking report and pictures. Thanks for sharing. I probably wouldn't have slept much in the hostel.
You're doing great @chris_in_cal . I'm with you being in awe of those who get up and run long miles before the sun comes up in the morning.
I'm glad your recovery is going well @martaindale .

I had my chest CT scan at noon. No contrast, so quick and easy. I'll get the results next week when I see the cardiac surgeon. This is just a follow up from my aneurysm surgery in 2021. I don't expect there to be any issues.
I did a mile on the treadmill to keep the streak going...after a nap and before church.

Good morning!
I got my leap year run in. It was a great end to a very consistent month for me. I decided I wanted to hit 280km and would need 10.6km to do that. I always run .1 more , so I have 280.1km for February, by far the highest mileage month ever. I am genuinely enjoying my training and hoping to keep up this momentum in March.
Oh, yeah, the best part of my run today- it was freezing at ca. 0 degrees, BUT the sun was out the WHOLE time! It’s been months with minimum glimpses of that bright orb , so I really enjoyed it.9 -
tarun_yadavA wrote: »I'm gonna go for 130 again this month. Shorter month and I'm due a rest day soon-ish
Morning all.
Got in 5 Miles (at 09"30). Run #60.
151Miles for the month; 300 for the year so far.
@Laurz9191 - amazing running!
@Teresa502 - Hope pacemaker goes ok with your Dad! Lovely pics!
Every time I hear Appalachian trail, I always think of that Robert Redford movie where he plays travel writer Bill Bryson... Starts it for a few days, then quits!
@quilteryoyo - Hope all ok, hopefully results all clear next week!9 -

I haven't seen the movie but I've listened to the audiobook - loved it! I could really relate to the guy who thought his backpack was a little too heavy and started chucking his food over the mountain. I felt like that more than once!
Great streaking! Rest day tomorrow?
4 -
@Laurz9191 Sounds like a great run. Glad the sun is shining today. Congrats on your highest monthly mileage! So, why the extra 0.1 km?
@Teresa502 I hope you dad gets along well today.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA Congrats on the 60 day streak. You did great!
3 -
@quilteryoyo @Teresa502 thanks ladies! 😊
I'll take a rest day now as soon as I feel the need... No landmarks or nice, round numbers now! Probably be soon-ish.
No pain or aches today so will probably run tomorrow (Friday is a quieter work day too). Sunday - I've committed to running with 9year old.
Will most likely do this weekend...
Probably first sign of an ouch or a niggle next week I'd imagine.6 -
@Teresa502 I Hope all went well with your Dad's pacemaker yesterday.
I have had a pacemaker for about a year now.
And this is goodbye to February.
Next month will be better for me. I didn't even come close to my goal.
March is a fresh start and will be a better month.5 -
