Debbie - Bone density is sort of like an X-ray/CT scan. I just laid on the bed and the machine went over me. Quite comfortable actually.
Here in AB they aren’t covered until you turn 50, the first time I had one I had an appointment the day before my birthday at the same location so tried to book it at the same time, I couldn’t until my birthday even though it was only the day before.
Vicki - I love coo-coo clocks.
Heather - A beautiful table. That Bea speaks from the heart.
Lanette - I had a cousin die of carbon monoxide poisoning, the $30 or so is money well spent.
So easy to install as well, especially if you have an older furnace they are very important.
I would really like one more room and maybe 3 feet wider than I have. It’s mostly so I would be more comfortable when people are visiting, we are quite fine here on our own otherwise.
Allie - glad to see Kyle came around, his temper would scare me. I understand her fear but being this worked up can’t be healthy.
Michele - there are some things I will buy store brands, but there are some things I absolutely will only do brand name.
Machka - that’s great that you get to work from home one day a week.
I worked on a way to decorate the wall at the end of the table. I think I have a plan, that might be a Saturday project though. My new cabinet came just as I was going to ceramics so I want to get that together tomorrow after my exam.
I mostly finished my snowman tonight, I need to clear coat it and put some snow at the base.
Off to bed, I have an exam in the morning.

One of the insights I have gained over my long life, and I share in my new book, NOW I AM, is that it is OK to ask for what you want. In my younger life I was not good at this, and feared getting the answer 'No'. The possibility of rejection stopped me even asking.
In my early forties I started attending personal growth seminars and courses, and that was one of the biggest learnings I came away with. It's amazing how often you do get what you want, people are often happy to help, and, if you don't, nothing is lost.
So, great job, Machka!
Great job, Lisa!

DDIL took the kids up to London yesterday. They went to some light exhibition at Tate Modern and then St Paul's Cathedral. I can't believe how much Max has grown!
We have Bea this afternoon.

Friday -- nice warm sunny day
Garden
Walk
Cycling!!
Later in the evening, I was walking Rhody and he seemed exceptionally interested in what was under one hedge. We all know that there has been an animal under there because it has left a few droppings. I started to get a little bit concerned when he stayed with his head and upper body under the hedge longer than usual. Usually, he ducks under to have a sniff or two and he's out again. And then all of a sudden, he dragged something out.
It was a dead rat!
No, he had not killed it because it was stiff as a board. I don't know how it died!
But he evidently smelled it and wanted it as his new plaything!

Heather - wow, seems like Max has shot up 6" in the last year from the photos you post. How tall is his dad? Looks like the family is having a wonderful time.
Barbara - I've been doing a lot of getting up off the floor with tending the woodstove. I can't do the "hands free" - I could 40 years ago. Time, knees, and hamstrings have me getting up baby style - hands on the floor in front of me, then lifting up my tush. It works. I generally spring off from my right (stronger) leg, so I've been working on using my left leg more.
Smashburgers - I saw a recipe for a good-looking "smashburger" - mix lowfat ground beef with some seasonings and maybe a little finely diced onion and garlic. Spread the raw meat thinly over a keto tortilla and put it in a hot large skillet, meat side down first. Once the meat is cooked, flip it and let the tortilla brown up. Sprinkle some cheese or other toppings on it if desired. How about chopped tomato and lettuce? After several minutes, the tortilla should be nicely browned. Remove from skillet and fold over or roll, whatever is easiest. Sounds like a good high-protein meal. I'm going to try it this weekend.
Protein Powders: Speaking of high protein - Any of you have favorite protein powders you add to smoothies or in recipes? I'm not a smoothie person but have been known to stir some protein powder in with my overnight oats. Hard to find the brand I used to like. TIA
Back later. Right now I need to kneel in front of the woodstove.

Good morning ladies!
It's chilly but sunny here. Today's mission is to go see my aunt, but I ought to get flowers and maybe muffins first.
My best friend in Virginia just joined weight watchers. I did that once a few years back. I loved the in person meetings and weigh-ins. I didn't like the driving or the point system. I count calories. And I don't eat many prepared foods with calories or points printed on the side.
Anyway I need to change up my eating habits. Too much snacking after my calories are used up. Too much sugar. Too much stress eating. Not enough exercise. Not enough water. Etc.
Yesterday I tried to not eat in the afternoon so I could eat dinner later. That didn't work.
I wonder if an online coach would help. The personal attention might do the trick. Hmm. They aren't free. And I'm not so great with advice. I could simply go back to the Just For Today thread. Something to think about.
Have a marvelous day ladies!

My blood tests results went up on my doctors site. All are normal. Sugars, rheumatic, all red/white blood counts. So, it is still a mystery! I am now wondering about intermittent claudication. I took my blood pressure this morning, just about OK, and did my ankle. Pressure was higher in my ankle, but I wasn't sure what I was doing. If it's lower there's a problem.
Lanette - my son, his dad, is 6ft 2ins.Max was always a bit short for his age, so it must be a relief to him. Edie had a growth spurt over Christmas, which pleased her, as she was also short. Her mum is tiny. Bea is taller than average at the moment.
Just waiting for Bea to turn up.

Well I signed up for a seven day trial of noom. It wants me to get my own scale and drink more water and such. We shall see. It's expensive to keep going. And the coaching is extra charge.
Ouch! They already got an extra $30 from me on a $10 trial week by being unclear about extra charges!!

Here I never know who puts out mice and rat poison. So if I find a dead animal I never let DrewB play with it. Even the one who I know did not die that way (the dead mice from our home via traps) I still don't let her have because I don't want her to think these animals are okay! The next one she comes across might have been poisoned. I wish these types of poisoned were banned here. One has an antidote Vit K. The other is a neurotoxin with no antidote!5

Annie, I could have told you to get a food scale and drink more water and charged you nothing. Start with baby steps. Make one change (drink more water and find a way to keep track of how much you drink) and add other changes later. Good luck to you. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Did some HIIT today. I forgot how very sweaty I get down here with all the humidity. Next time I’ll be sure to take a towel with me to wipe off the sweat. Going to do some yoga/pilates tomorrow since the gym doesn’t open until 8 and that’s something I can do at the condo. If it’s raining, maybe I’ll ask Jess if she wants to go to the gym and I’ll just walk on the treadmill
Tracey – oh, there are a few things that I won’t do without being the brand name. Like Hellman’s mayo. Can’t be Dukes. Vince only wants Jiff peanutbutter, no other brand. But it seems that Colby tended to want almost everything brand name. Like Jess asked me to get some Spaghettios. I got Aldi’s brand (they didn’t have any Spaghettios and I wasn’t going to go to different food stores that day). She didn’t have a problem with them. Oh well…. Great snowman, what part do you have to clear coat? It looks like you painted all the white parts
Heather – love the pics, especially the one with the lights. All the kids have really grown. Max looks so “grown up”
Lanette – I find that I can’ get up as well as I used to. Seems it takes me longer and I need to put one hand on a leg. Oh well…. I like to use Spirutein protein powder mainly because it doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners. All the other ones that had decent calorie counts contained artificial sweeteners. To me, the Spirutein is sweet enough. I used to like the Tone It Up powder, but then they changed to a different sweetener, and it’s horrible
Margaret – like you, I wouldn’t let one of our animals play with ANY dead animal. You don’t know, maybe the dead animal was diseased.
Jess made her presentation, I must say that I’m proud of her. Now her boss is giving her feedback. I guess after this we’ll get going. Colby seems to be enjoying himself, he likes the weather and so glad he was able to see a launch and the boosters come back to earth. Wish there were more launches while he was down here.

In my travels and lives around the country, I’ve seen boats, toilets, old tractors, old plows and many other interesting lawn art. They all had 2 things in common, they had been around a long time and flowers.
Yay @Machka for getting her work from home request!!! Good job!
PS… I put the worms in a spoiler b/c it is hard to see those and be able to eat pasta later! LOL. I wouldn’t touch them without gloves on. With gloves, I had to issue counting and putting them in those containers fishermen buy. I helped them for the time we were there, from April to July that year. He sold his house and we both started our cross country trek in August of 2017. My DB stayed in Arizona with his in-laws, DH and I started Hosting at Bottomless in 2018 after our exploring the North West.

I tried NOOM and quit as soon as I saw the prices go up. I think I had a 2 month trial when it first came out. It didn’t help me but it may help you. I thought it was like having a therapist specifically for diet and not much how to eat info. Maybe it has changed? Been a couple of years since I tried it. I also tried Weight Watchers, but being an Introvert, I did not like the in person meetings but did follow the diet for a while. Did well until I stopped following it. I needed something that taught me how to control my binge emotional eating, and lifelong. So the best thing for me is to only have 45 Grams of carbs each meal, and eliminate the foods I react too, such as eggs, sugar, wheat, and oats. These will change according to my stomach and colitis symptoms.
This is just my opinion and what works for me. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT IN WHAT WORKS FOR THEM!
Squats update I have really noticed a difference from doing those squats. I couldn’t get up off the floor without pulling myself up with the counter or something to hang on to. 3 weeks of squats and I can now get up off the floor without pulling myself up. Almost not using my arms at all to get up. (Found out when I washed the RV floor by hand. Don’t use a mop as it is a very small stretch of tile.). Starting the Week 4 goals either today or tomorrow depending on time and what is going on.

Today is Help a grouch day! Try to see why the person is grouchy from their point of view before getting mad at them for being grouchy. Make them smile!!
I got these yesterday because it was their day!
No pizza and fish sticks for me!! BTW Arby’s used to have some very good Fish Fries (looked like fish sticks but real fish!). I hope they bring them back for Lent!

I showed Bea some new ideas for kid's paintings from Instagram. She did something completely different, and I did the kid's paintings. 😜 I enjoyed myself messing about.
Right now she is upstairs in the exercise room with 'Johnny '. This is what she did all by herself.
I'm going to make her a light dinner at 5 because she's going off to swimming at 5.30.

Thanks- glad it isn't like the MRI-That was the worst thing for me when I had frozen shoulder2 -
Up early- have to leave for a long dentist appointment soon. They plan on 1 1/2 hrs to 2 hrs. Repairing or replacing three fillings I think plus replacing the buildup he put on(popped off at Christmas eating caramel corn ) after I fell and broke it and the ones next to it.
Went to bed really early last night. Had actually fallen asleep in the recliner for 10 min with one of the cats. I very rarely ever nap. Woke up, turned my computer and tv off, grabbed a quick shower and went to bed.
Will walk the wetlands after my appointment and before Ezie gets out of school.

Hi Gals,
Welcome to all the newbies and sorry to everyone that I am barely responding and my posts are all about me, but my world is sucking up all my energy.
I did get on the scale this morning and oh my! By Christmas my walks with Levi were down from 2 miles to 1 and they continued to sink in distance as it was too hard for him. I have not walked at all for the last 3 + weeks… I walked yesterday and at the end of ¾ of a mile, I was done. Today I made a mile! I am working on creating a stretching routine, and maybe something more “exercise” at home… Time is an issue, but my home seems bigger without 2 large dog beds in it. Levi had a cozy bed in my bedroom, and one in the living room.
Rita could you remind me of the squat challenge? That might be something I could do, my left knee is a bit limited but it gets more range of motion with work. (I had a full ACL replacement)
Rebecca and Lisa – happy to hear/see the visits with kids.
Heather – the pictures of the grands are great!
Allie – best wishes – always love the Miles pictures
My friend Barbara did this for me, the "flowers" are Levi's paw prints, we did it with acrylic paints on his paws and then pressing them where she wanted on the paper. just a bit of water washed it off his paws.
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California

I would dispute the extra charge that you didn't expect.

Annie - good luck with Noom, hope it helps. I am not familiar with their program.
I never did well with calorie counting alone - I thought I was clever and could still eat calorie laden salty and sugary foods and it was OK as long as I accounted for the calories. Yes, I'd lose weight but gain it right back. I should have been paying better attention to getting more protein which would have helped curb my appetite too. Being thin was more important to me than being healthy back then. But, better late than never. I always did well on WW until they switched from supporting their web-based tools to focus on phone apps and I didn't have a smart phone. That's when I came here.
Heather - are they planning to do an ultrasound? Are your ankles and/or feet swelling? Hope they can find out what's going on so you can get back to those beach runs you enjoy so much. I get occasional pain in one leg, especially the outside of the calf and ankle on my right side due to a damaged nerve from a herniated disc 30 years ago. The ache woke me up last night, probably from carrying too many loads of firewood. That might be why the toes on my right foot get painful sometimes too. I'll run that by the foot doc too. Lots to cram in during a 7 minute exam but I'll do my best, lol. I'm a fast talker, hope he's a fast listener. My DH had peripheral artery disease (PAD) due to his years of smoking, bad diet, and not much walking due to arthritic hips. He had some pain and swelling especially in one leg. They ran him through a battery of tests including ultrasounds and checking pulses in different areas of his legs. The doc told him to quit smoking and walk more, walk through the pain. Otherwise, stents in his future.
Margaret - same here regarding dead mice/critters. Smart thinking keeping Drew away from them.
Rita - excellent job with the squats and getting up off the floor without hardly using hands! You get a gold star. Inspiring to make rapid improvement like that.
Michele - I just discovered Duke's mayo and I love it. I think it's the "tang." Best Foods/Hellman's was getting too bland for me. Great that they make something for all of our different taste buds. Thanks for the protein powder recommendation, I'll check it out.
What are you Celebrating? What are you Navigating? Yesterday I listened to another interview about the benefits of walking. The host of the podcast said he gets together with several of his men friends once a week for an hour of walking. Everyone gets a chance to say what they are celebrating and what they are navigating (challenges ahead, dealing with roadblocks, etc.) He said it's the most valuable hour of his week. I noted that's what we gals do on this thread, maybe not in an organized fashion. Good balance though.
I think this Celebrate/Navigate would be a good addition to the Weekly Check-in if anyone wants to use it for that. I like the idea of pointing out what we have to Celebrate - what was successful, what are we grateful for. I often forget that important step.
Reminder, the Weekly Check-in isn't just to log weight, it's for anything a person wants to document or comment on. So it's already kind of a Celebrate/Navigate.
