Visited MIL this evening. She’s doing ok. Heading to bed. Lots to do tomorrow.5 -
Yep, the struggle is REAL @xbowhunter - Awesome you stuck to your personal wants.
I had the best intention to skip wine tonight, but ended up having two large glasses while cooking some meals for my DH’s camp trip.
A revelation…… I sometimes allow myself that ‘extra’ 1-2 glasses of low cal wine when that is what I buy……so end up having more than if I had 1-2 glasses of a nice wine. While drinking low cal wine is actually LA , I am finding this defeats my limits goal. 😠 My better plan is to finish April with 15 AF days for this month.
April stats:
AF - 10
A - 5
LA - 8 (less than 2 glasses and/or low alcohol content)

Morning my LA friends.
Doing much better this month. hoping to even it up after Thursday and will have Wine Fri and Sat. This LA thread has taught me to monitor my consumption and it has really helped me keep my weight down.

I'm actually really proud of my LA stats because I am an "all or nothing" person so being able to enjoy a single or two drinks without getting carried away makes me very happy.6 -
Hello my LA friends.
I have one of those cool weight scales at home that tracks my weight to my phone.
Noticing a trend with it.
When I drink wine on the weekends I retain around 5lbs of water when I weigh in on Monday. grr
It takes about 4 days to flush my system then my weight returns back to normal.
Just another side effect of the ethanol we ingest...5 -
Went to a Zumba class yesterday and loved the Latin music. DH is out of town and I am admittedly enjoying the extra quiet for a few days. Had two glasses of red wine last night while watching American Rust. I like the acting, but not sure if I will continue watching after 4 episodes in season one. Hmmmm.
Planning on choosing AF days until Sat or Sunday when the Art and Wine festival comes to town this weekend.

@lmlmrn good to hear about the follow up on DH. Gosh, I think this is a great example of why we need to do the Colorectal tests, and those pesky Colonoscopies when warranted and as we get older. The fact that the polyps were found and removed is excellent and sounds like you guys have a good plan in place for next steps!3

MIL was moved to a nursing facility yesterday. There’s definitely pluses and minuses to this move.
Didn’t drink. Don’t have it in the house. Really stressed about MIL, going back to work, and other very specific things regarding my kiddos. Instead of drinking I’ve taken to adult coloring books. I never thought I was one of those people who would do that, but it definitely takes my mind off the drinking.4 -

I hate the feeling after I cave also. It makes me feel worthless, tbh. I hope today is better for you...and me.
Casino night, and I really want to finish the month out without alcohol and without being a bump on a log on date night.5 -
Hello everyone
Well we went out for beer on Wednesday as well as a pizza at lunch, then I did something I have not done in over a year. Later that evening I had 3 shots of whiskey....oh boy. Thursday was a day to remind me that I don't drink much anymore...not so much of a hangover, more just feeling bloated and sluggish. Very uncomfortable.
I have fully recovered and now I will pay much more attention to this type of behavior.
So today the sun is out and I think I am going to go on a hike and get some vitamin D today7 -
Happy Friday LA friends!
Did a little reading on the effects of alcohol this morning, and found guidelines for standard drink serving sizes. Just a reminder for myself and why I want to limit my servings on a given A day.

Happy to report AF last night and that’s the plan for tonight again - instead of having wine with a Netflix thriller, I crawled into bed early with a new book and some nice tea. On repeat tonight! Sometimes having no wine is easy for me 😇 and sometimes it’s conscious work. 👿. Habits can be hard to break but coming to this thread is very helpful - it’s nice to know we’re all in good company!
Make it a great day!

@NonnieDoiron hugs to you as your MIL moves into a nursing home. I’ve walked that road and understand the challenges.
@lmlmrn there is a reason you had your whiskey night and funny how something like this will cause us to pay better attention. You know what they say about hindsight!3 -

Still no wine in the house, but I’ll be damned if that whiskey bottle wasn’t calling my name last night! I couldn’t sleep which didn’t help either. But, I did resist the urge. I went to bed around 11:00 when I finally was tired.
@Michieb125 she’s supposed to only be there for post acute rehabilitation, but we have no idea how long that will take. We’re very nervous the facility will release her while she’s still wheelchair bound, and she won’t be able to get in her bedroom at home. Hallways, doors, and bathrooms are not handicap accessible and we can’t afford the renovation. We also can’t afford to keep her in a nursing facility after the insurance cuts her off. My BIL claims he’ll help with stuff like that, but he also said he would send us money to help with her when she first moved in. He sent money for like 6 months and quit. Needless to say, I don’t have much faith in him helping.4 -

That’s water weight from alcohol? I just assumed it was restaurant food!

Is your MIL going there for rehab post hospitalization? Or is she…. Going into a nursing home permanently? It’s so tough, sorry to hear your family is going through this. At least she’s no longer acute enough to be hospitalized.
I tried the adult coloring book, but they actually stressed me out! I’ve never been able to do a great job coloring in the lines, and the adult ones are so intricate that I could never make the patterns look decent! I got frustrated and cut my losses. At any rate, so glad to hear you found something that works for you!!!1 -
Good morning my friendly peeps!!!
Sorry I haven't been around much. I worked my *kitten* off to finish my last college class at age 55. I am finally done. WooHoo. The weight that lifted almost transformed me into a new person. LOL. Now I am knee deep in yardwork. We moved to a new home back in Oct. and haven't had the opportunity to keep up with all the landscaping. I am so behind because of that dang homework, but alas, I am loving being out in the yard. My property is an acre and the previous owner landscaped the whole border and around the house and other areas, let's just say, I'll be busy all summer.
It's been 87 days since my last drink. When I would do yardwork at my other home, I would drink beer. It just seemed like the fun thing to do. Funny thing is, I didn't even think about drinking when I started yardwork this past week.
The no sugar challenge this month was fairly easy for the first 21 days, then when I was stressing over getting my class done, I reached for some dark chocolate cuz it was in the house. Now that my class is done, I am back to limiting the sugar.
I guess I will start another challenge for May. Do I have any takers? I'm not sure what the challenge is. Maybe I'll challenge myself to log my food everyday and keep my calories between 1200 and 1500. I haven't been very good with that lately.
@NonnieDoiron So sorry to hear about your MIL. That is a lot of stress. Hopefully, your BIL will be supportive this time. Good job staying away from the A.

@NonnieDoiron congrats on finishing your class, and on doing well with the sugar challenge! One little piece of chocolate isn’t going to break anything, you’ll be fine! Very happy for you.
I had a charity black tie gala last night and am really proud that I kept to two drinks. I knew that a third one would push me over the edge. Tonight is dinner with friends and I should be able to stick with one glass. They aren’t big drinkers so shouldn’t be a problem.2 -
@nonniedoiron That is so stressful and just wanted to throw in some support for what you're going through and congratulate you on leaving that whiskey alone.

A = 8 The casino got me, and I drank many glasses of wine...like the most I've had since I started this LA journey. Blah.3 -
Only a few more days to wrap up our LA month of April!

It’s a rehab facility for post hospitalization, but it’s also a nursing home. I’ve been at the facility since about 9:30 this morning and it’s now 3:00. I am so irritated with this place! The response times are AWFUL! My MIL slipped out of bed this morning before I got here, and she has been here since Thursday and wasn’t told she would have to just use the adult diapers instead of using the toilet. She’s a proud woman, so this was incredibly difficult for her. Nobody seems to know what is going on around here. I want to scream at people, but I might end up disturbing the man across the hall that straight looks like he’s dead in his bed. 😳
