What a race report @TheMrWobbly ! It sounded like it was reaaaaalllly hard race and you made it through! It’s great your family was there to cheer you on! It sounds like pre-race was pretty stressful. Great job!!!
@katrose1985 Welcome!
@quilteryoyo It sounds like you are keeping very active! Good job on all the planting!
@Teresa502 I love the view on the picture! Beautiful !
@chris_in_cal Good job with your 3 day streak!
@ContraryMaryMary I can understand not wanting to do a marathon that has a huge out and back section with wind. That sounds like it would be mentally very difficult to prepare for. I’m sure you would be happy once you completed it though! On my main running route I’m almost always running into a strong wind on the way back and I never cease to hate that, but I’ve come to accept it as a mental training exercise .

I have been too busy to post. My goal for May is 160km. I think my body wants to dial down the mileage for one more month before building it up again.
I have a half marathon race in my city tomorrow. Part of it is even on my usual running route. I went on a shakeout 10.3km yesterday and my pulse was quite high for the pace, and the legs were still feeling very fatigued from the bike race and maybe even a bit from the marathon. So, I’m not going to aim for a PR, but rather set a more obtainable goal and just try to enjoy being out there.
10.3/160km for May.7 -

Still no running but I think I'm getting close. My sense of smell and taste started coming back yesterday and my chest is feeling looser. Not totally normal but headed in the right direction.
We've had lots of storms the last couple of days with almost 10in of rain so I've been walking on the treadmill. There was quite a bit of flooding around northern Houston but my neighborhood always fares well during these storms. We only lost power for a few hours during the worst of it on Thursday. There are folks whose houses were under water.8 -
Great humid run @kgirlhart .
Great start to your streak @chris_in_cal .
Great running @katrose1985 . Love that your 7 year old motivated you to go further! Love the picture. You look so happy.
Have fun with the HM @Laurz9191 .
Nice running @tarun_yadavA !
@martaindale I'm glad that your sense of taste and smell are coming back and you're feeling better. Also glad you aren't flooded out. The pictures on the news look really bad.2 -
It was windy there this morning and I enjoyed seeing the waves crash against the breakwall. It wasn't too cold and quite a pleasant morning.
Haha! I read that this morning at 4am while I was having coffee and getting ready to head to the lake. I usually plan on being at the lake at 5am most days. My friend P usually rolls in about 5:20am unless she gets called into work. Then the three ladies who walk arive. I usually see my friend M walking with his cup of coffee He arrives at differing times. There are a couple more regulars I see there who I see each day as well.@quilteryoyo probably have to stay there since games can be at 8 am and who wants to get up at 4 am to exercise/play. Wait. Who am I talking to. Of course most of you would so do that....and do almost daily.

I had to make myself get out the door with my running shoes on today. Glad I did. I also MADE myself go 4 miles for May the Forth Be With You day. I walked most of this one. I did a 1/2 min run/walk for about 3 miles of the four. I just didn't have a lot of energy and breathing was hard today....it was humid and lots of pollen in the air, I think.8 -
Good luck on your HM @Laurz9191!1

Neighborhood 1Mile (at 16"33 ). I am feeling more relaxed. Thanks everyone for the kind words.9

Morning all
Got in 6.54M (at 08"56).
Beautiful day today in London. London finally got the Memo7 -
@chris_in_cal you are doing great. So sorry that the trial of med did not work. At least you gave it a try! The hardest part for me is getting out the door and a lot of times I tell myself just do a mile and then it ends up more but if I said - let's run 7 to myself - I would never start.
Boy it has been humid and dank here the entire week. My hair looks like a birds nest no matter what I try or how much product I use. I am thinking maybe I need to try one of those brazilian processes to get it to behave but wow - expensive and a lot of time! Yesterday I ran/walked 4 miles in the morning. Just could not decide to run. But then at lunch I put decided I wanted to use the Saucony Endorphins which seem a little large in the heel again so I worked on the lacing method of heel locking. I had tried that before but I did not realize you could sort of see saw as you tightened them to really get the heel more stable. Kind of pulling up and down to keep tightening. I really like how they fit and it's only when I turn while running that I feel the heel on the outside foot of the turn a little shifty. They are really light weight and have great energy return but I guess I would not try that particular style again because honestly I hate laces and love shoes you can just pull on.
@martaindale glad to hear you are recovering! One of my gals at work still has no sense of smell since 2020 version of covid. That was actually her only symptom at the time. She was chopping onions one evening and noticed she could not smell them. 😕

Hi everyone!
Yesterday I went for a shakeout 4.1km. My legs still felt pretty heavy, so I was a bit sceptical about doing the HM in under 2 hours today. In the afternoon we went on a hike with the kids, which was fun, even if it is not the smartest thing to do right before a longer race.
My plan was to do the first 5km at under 2hr pace and see how I felt. I guess I felt ok, but I realised at about 8km that I was going to have to slow down a little bit. The course was well organised but not easy, as most of it was on biking/walk path gravel and there were lots of little ups and downs, including one very steep incline along my normal running route that I’ve never actually run up - only down because it is so steep . It was a great atmosphere, but with 5km left I thought, man, I’m not doing this many races in a row again next year! Since it was in my city, I also saw lots of people I knew along the course which was cool and motivating. My official time was 2:02:38, which I am perfectly happy with. Even though it isn’t a PR or sub 2- my legs did their best and it was nice to have my family with me at the finish line.
My next race is a 5k, so I think after resting up, I’m going to get back to more speed work and strength training once again!
35.7/160km for May.8 -
@Laurz9191 nice HM!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Great that you had your family there at the finish line, and that the atmosphere was great and you saw friends along the course.
Nice 10 M yesterday @Scott6255!
Great that May the 4th was with you yesterday @quilteryoyo and that you got 4 in!
Great streaking 😆 @chris_in_cal! Keep up the great effort!
Hope the Saucony Endorphins work out for you @SummerSkier! The lacing to get the heels right takes a bit of experimentation. Nice getting 4 in!
Nice pace and run this morning @tarun_yadavA - glad the weather was beautiful!
Nice family outing @katrose1985!
Way to keep at it @yirara and @emptydog!3 -
Did my Girls on the Run 5K this morning. That was a lot of fun! Great seeing all these young girls out there giving it their all and having a grand time! I thoroughly enjoyed cheering them on along the course as we made our way around through the park where the race was held. It rained all last night and was supposed to continue all day today (and it’s doing so now), but for the race the rain stopped and it was a wonderful event!
My Garmin says I hit a PR for the race, so that was a little bonus.
Oh, and I thought it was cute that everyone’s bib number was 1!

01.05 2.1km 16min 7:49/km - tired run
03.05 4.0km 33min 8:11/km - slow
04.05 4.0km 32min 7:55/km
05.05 bit of hiking, strenuous
10.09km/67km - 1.4km ahead target
I guess today counts as leg day. Went on a few smaller hikes, but steeply uphill and visited an old undergorund coal mine where I crouched down/bent my knees for close to 90 minutes. Phew, bum and legs feel wasted.6 -
May Goal: 115 Miles
5/1: 6.03 miles
5/2: 4.11 miles
5/3: 6.02 miles
5/5: 10.05 miles
26.21/115 miles completed for May
It was only 63°F when I started out this morning, but it was 100% humidity so it felt pretty hot. I ran 10 miles. Everything was pretty wet from all the rain and there were lots of pretty flowers.
Great job on your HM @laurz9191!
Congratulations on your 5K PR @0919! I'm glad the weather cooperated. Looks like a great crowd.

Nice run @SummerSkier and I'm glad you got your shoe laces figured out. I feel bad for your co-worker. I can't imagine not being able to smell or taste for that long!
Great race @Laurz9191 . Glad your family was there and you had a nice hike before the race.
Looks like a great group of young ladies for your 5K @daria0919 . Glad the weather held out. Congrats on you PR! That's awesome.
Sounds like a great, hard hike @yirara .
Great run @kgirlhart ! Great 10 mile run. Beautiful pictures.2 -

May 1 – 5.10 miles
May 3 – 5.07 miles
May 5 – 6.02 miles
May 6 – 5.01 miles
21.20 miles/80 miles goal
Not sure how I got so far behind on posts! Yikes! Ya'll have been doing some great running. I got in 5 miles this morning before today’s rain and storms arrived.
Congrats on going to the state tennis tournament @quilteryoyo! Your mom’s garden looks very pretty.
Glad you are on the mend @martaindale. I heard about the flooding in Houston on the national news (radio) and I hoped you were not affected by it. Sounded pretty devastating.
@laurz9191 – You are a beast! Great time on your HM!
Way to go @daria0919! Congrats on the PR! Those are usually hard on a course with so many kids on it. They tend to do a lot of full out running and then abruptly stopping right in front of people. Looks like a great turnout and fun time.

You know what folks? I think I have decided to quit running for the foreseeable future. I really have just dreaded going out for a run the last several weeks. Not sure what the reason is...heat, soreness, fatigue, old age, combination of all of it? In any case, I think I will look at just concentrating on some weight training and sprinkle in a little cardio of some sort for the next few months. Maybe I will miss running so much that I come back to it, or maybe not.
I am signed up for a 15K race in Atlanta in mid-October, so I will probably start some training a month or two before that.
I know it will be a big adjustment as I have been doing this for the last 12+ years. I think the hardest part will be not checking in with all of y'all . But I know everyone will continue making and breaking their goals and getting into all kinds of mischief (you know who you are)
If/When I do come back, I hope to see some familiar names and faces.

Just took 2.5 months: I think I'm back into running. I... could not test today because in the end I decided to get into my top 4k fastest runs instead of running longer. LOL. Btw, my side bum and thighs are SORE from walking through too low tunnels for 90 mins yesterday 😅5 -

@Scott6255 oh no! hope you're ok? ... You will be missed sorely4 -
Sorry to hear you're struggling @scott6255. I totally get it though, I'm just coming out the other side of a good six months of struggle running. Before you abandon it totally, it may be worth getting a health check up - things like B12 and iron levels. And perhaps, rather than giving up running for the foreseeable future, give yourself a whole month off to recharge and regroup and then take another assessment. We'd hate to lose you.
Great racing @Laurz9191. You did really well considering you were feeling less than optimal – nothing worse than trying to race on tired legs.
Awesome work @daria0919 – nice to get a new PR. That looks like a fantastic event.
Glad to hear you’re starting to feel better @martaindale, and that you managed to stay dry!
You early risers are so not me. I struggle to get out of bed before 7:30, especially now that the mornings are cooler and darker. I’m often awake but I hate the transition from cosy bed to putting on cold clothes.
Lovely photos @katrose1985. Do you know what the blue flowering plant is?
Good to see you clocking up the miles @chris_in_cal.
5km on the struggle bus for me this morning – I didn’t really feel like heading out, it’s cold and grey here (not really cold, I was still in a t-shirt but these things are relative) and my energy levels have been impacted by a couple of busy days with poor nights’ sleep. Did it anyway so it wouldn’t hang over my head for the whole day. As per usual, things were way better the minute I started running. But then my left calf/hamstring started objecting so I had to pull back the pace and have a couple of walk breaks. Got it done regardless, and now have now transitioned to the work struggle bus (currently stopped in Procrastination Station).9
