I injured my tendon(s) above my left ankle under my calf and saw an orthopedic specialist. This happened from overdoing my fast walking and barre classes, etc. After X-rays showed perfectly healthy ankle and foot bones, they said it would heal with the R.I.C.E. method. I will say it was impossible to be consistent with this while on the go in our RV and visit family driving all over OR and WA. Fast forward to this Wednesday night, my ankle and shin swelled with large patches of bruising and it’s very painful, egads! I’m just mad because I am a very active person and have a lot of summer projects to get to and I need patience to let it heal. Thinking I may need an MRI if this persists. Thanks for letting me vent!

@NonnieDoiron prays coming! You have so much going on and I personally believe that drawing appropriate and reasonable boundaries are part of your survival right now. I wonder if your MIL would qualify for some kind of at home care, or Medicaid services to help unload your caretaking.
So not easy, I’ve been down this road but my DH and I determined my MIL was better in a 6-bed facility because of her medical needs. Not sure but maybe you’ve already discussed this here before. Take care of you!

I don’t know what’s available to her as far as in-home care. My husband has been the one to deal with her discharge mostly because I didn’t think she was ready. Now that she’s here and has already started complaining, I am convinced she wasn’t ready. But, nobody wants my opinion. I’m keeping my mouth shut.

Drank a couple glasses of wine last night finishing the bottle I opened 3 days ago.

BFF is still here and we might play cards or something tonight, so no telling if I’ll have a drink or not. We’ll see.

Oh @NonnieDoiron, holy cow that is a lot to deal with. I’m also surprised that she was discharged to home, but who knows what assurances your husband gave to the discharge planner as to the level of care she would receive. But still …. It’s your house too. I really hope there is an aide that can come in, but I think they only come in 2-3 times per week for four hours.

To give him grace I’d venture to guess that he wants to be with his mom as HE is going through his medical ordeal. But I had to laugh at the thought of a grown man with his fingers in his ears saying LA LA LA LA LA to you like a five year old! Egads. I hope you can both get to the place where you can have an honest conversation without being shut down. Hugs to you!

Hi all, I haven’t been around much this month but just caught up on the thread. @Michieb125 so sorry to hear about your ankle- that’s the worst when you’re active person on vacation!!! I hope it heals well and doesn’t tear or anything.

Last weekend my son graduated from a four month Army training for National Guard, and it was wonderful to see him. We spent a couple of days at Lake of the Ozarks, which is just beautiful. I was at my upper limit but didn’t overdo the alcohol, so that’s a win.

This week…. Not so much. I had a lot of wine with a friend earlier in the week, and yesterday on the boat had three vodka seltzers and one glass of wine at home. Weight is creeping up and I have to rein it back in starting today. Oh also I got sunburned yesterday, so ouch!

Happy belated Father’s Day to all you wonderful dads!!

Thanks, @Womona. I know she is supposed to have in-home PT, OT, and speech therapy. I just have no idea when any of that starts. And, YES, my husband is probably a bigger baby than my grandbaby at times! The ear plug sent me! I was so taken aback by the action, I laughed… rolling hard! When he came back into the room hours later, I told him how childish he behaved and mimicked his actions. He laughed too realizing just how stupid he looked. I know all of this is just hyper-emotional for all of us, so I’m trying to maintain my sense of humor as best I can. My oldest daughter who hasn’t been speaking to us and avoids us, started reaching out to my husband this morning. After speaking to our oldest son, I’m not sure it’s a communication. (They are both technically my stepchildren, but I claim them… even at their worst.)

Despite ALL of this, I haven’t bought another bottle of wine since I finished the other Friday. And, I’m good. My daughter-in-law who had been sober for over 2 years (no AA, just doing it on her own) decided to have a couple beers the other night while they were on vacation, and she said she definitely felt she was at her limit, knows she doesn’t want to make it a habit again, and hasn’t had any cravings since. I’m proud of her. She’s been part of my motivation and support for this, so it was good to hear her feel confident about being able to have a couple beers and not want to go crazy with it.

    Hello LA friends,

Checking in, and happy Monday to everyone. After an AF night on Friday, I had some Prosecco and low calorie wine on both Sat and Sunday! Within my limits, but a definite deviation from my AF plan.

@Womona - agree I could live without the Cupcake low calorie Chardonnay. Did enjoy the Cupcake low calorie Pinot Grigio the most. I like that they are 80 calories and 8% alcohol rather than 12-14% for other wines. The high calories kill my health goals.

Planning AF Mon-Wed this week. Haven’t been practicing that “3 in a row” so much lately - this would be a good accomplishment for me and get me back on track.

Found the Waterloo Mojito flavored sparkling water - is really great mixed with fresh limes and a splash of cranberry juice.

Take care of yourself today, Each day is a new beginning!
