LESS Alcohol ~ JULY 2024 ~ One Day at A Time

@Womona Thanks. I'll have to check in to SSRI's. I did a quick Google search. It said not to take with blood thinners for the risk of bleeding. I don't take blood thinners. But due to my liver issues, I believe that my liver may not make the clotting proteins like it should. I should be having that checked soon.
The last time I had blood drawn, I took a Garlique tablet for the first time that morning. I guess garlic can thin your blood. After the draw, the phlebotomist wrapped up my arm and I left the room. As I was walking down the hallway, I felt something. Blood was running down my arm. I went back to the draw room. The phlebotomist asked if I was taking blood thinners. I said "No". She rewrapped my arm. Later, I remembered the Garlique. So I never took it again.
I didn't drink as much yesterday as I usually do. I have a doctor appointment this morning for an eye problem I've been having. I don't feel great. But I guess I have no choice than to go.
Have a good day!

@SurferGirl1982 - way to go on the less alcohol yesterday!! I have found that the discomfort from drinking less is usually temporary and as we find we CAN do it our confidence also improves.
Good luck with your eye issue too!4 -
@Michieb125 @Womona - I actually made it to my eye appointment this morning. I was quite nervous. But everyone was very nice. The doctor is an MD that deals with retinal problems, cataracts, macular degeneration, etc. They bill medical insurance (not vision insurance). Which is a good thing because I don't have vision insurance.
When he asked me if I had any medical issues, I told him the truth. That I have a drinking problem and an anxiety disorder. I usually try to avoid the truth. I don't like to admit that I have a drinking problem. He said there's nothing to be embarrassed of and that it was best to tell the truth because all the doctors are there to help.
I believe my problem will be fixable. I have an appointment in a few weeks at his other office in a larger town about an hour away. He has some other tests to run. Although, he thinks the alcohol is responsible for most of this. He said he's going to send a report to my PCP and see if they can get me some help. In the mean time, I'm going to be cutting down big time!
Well, it's very hard to type right now. I guess my eyes are still dilated.10 -

No A tonight. Weigh-in went better than expected. I finally broke into the 180s again! Didn’t walk today because of the rain and how busy I was with work.🙁9 -
@NonnieDoiron WTG with the weight loss and abstinence
@SurferGirl1982 Good luck with your eye stuff and good job being honest with your medical team!
@Womona So sorry to hear about the loss of your baby. It is such a hard thing to go through
Got back yesterday from my short cruise with my dad. Very nice, relaxing cruise making memories with my dad who's getting older too fast. I did pretty darn good with the drinking until the last day. Such is life. No wine last night and I'm just calling tonight and Wednesday AF as well because that's the plan.
I also went for my second injection of Ozempic yesterday and weighed in. I lost 4 pounds from the previous Monday. It really helped on the cruise. I was very conservative with the food but satisfied too.
Stats as of tomorrow since it's the last day of the month and it will be an AF day for me!!

Glad your appointment went well, and that you were honest with your eye doctor! That is so huge. Very courageous of you! Hopefully your PCP can work with you to find relief from the driving anziety, and that it’s not contraindicated to any medical issues. Sounds like the garlic was the culprit at your last bloodwork!
@MissMay always posts the link to next month’s thread here, should be posted any time now.

So glad you got to enjoy time with your dad. It all does go by too quickly. Nice job with weight loss and drinking goals!
Thanks also for the kind words about my dog!

Celebrated with two glasses of wine last night… we are getting a bigger boat!!! We’ll be able to sleep out on the new one, and most importantly, has an enclosed head! (Bathroom for all you landlubbers!)6

I 100% agree with @womona. 1 sip less is counted as drinking LESS. Those sips can eventually add up to one glass. Fingers crossed for a good appointment.3 -

Congrats on the bigger boat. I had to laugh at you describing what a head is. No more peeing off the stern (back of boat, LOL)2 -
Frustrated on Sunday with husband while we were out getting lunch and listening to live music on the water under a palm leafed roof, with him saying it would be nice to go out and drink with somebody.
(meaning I was having H00 or Tea in a stemmed glass or a virgin pina colada)
Somebody needs to get over this child like behavior. Next, he will be on the ground kicking his feet.

Walked today and picked up a bag of trash. I hate litter!
Thanks, @chicbuc! I appreciate the support. I was very surprised to see I was down, so I am very happy!
@SurferGirl1982, you’re doing great! Keep posting and telling us what’s happening. I agree with the others, I’m so glad you told your doctor. And, I’m encouraged by the doctor’s response, very helpful and not accusatory. That was so wonderful to hear!
@MissMay, you’re a better woman than me. I would’ve ended up getting plowed on an alcohol I know makes me mean, and I would’ve been a complete pain in his *kitten* the rest of the night. He would never want me to drink with him again!🤣🤣🤣 Your husband doesn’t realize how good he has it!😉6 -
@Womona - Congrats on the bigger boat. I do know what a "head" is. I've been using that terms for years..."Got to hit the Head" 😁
@MissMay - Thanks for the support and for including the link for next month's thread. I thought I might have to search for it. As far as your husband, you should get an empty hard liquor bottle, fill it up with water and add it to some sort of mixer. Then, he'll think he is drinking with somebody 🍹
@NonnieDoiron - I will keep posting. Yesterday was the first time I saw this doctor. I liked him and his assistant. They both seem very sincere about helping me.
Take care all!5 -
I’m gonna call it 1 3/4 glass of wine last night. Or maybe 1 7/8. Still not quite two!6

Last day of July!
Many of you did outstanding with your month of less A in any amount! Great job 👏
To wrap up July, I did achieve more AF days than last month but still less than my set goal.
But, last night I loosened the reins and after having a huge glass of low alcohol wine I opened a nice red and had half the bottle!
It was my first red this month so the little devil on my shoulder gave full permission. Well, it did taste wonderful, and now I have the other half of bottle sitting there. Will not be finishing it tonight however.
See you on the August thread!
July Goals minimum days:

@Womona congrats on the new boat! That is so very exciting! I am going to check out the app you shared, as I have never used one for drinks and do like the idea of color coding.
@chicbuc how lovely that you took a cruise with your father. My dad passed nearly 12 years ago and I wish we could have had more time together. He was sober 35 years when he did, but it was the cigarettes that did him harm.
@tmbg1- I am envious of your awesome stats for July, So inspiring!
@MissMay - that must have been hurtful to hear your husbands statements. Not so encouraging! Thank you for always proving your experiences with us each and every month! I know we all appreciate your support so much.1
