Water with wine didnβt happen yesterday, as shown on the scales this morning. Had a lovely evening in good company, so not complaining as I know its mostly water retention.

I am managing macros, especially the protein, and am using a food scale or otherwise trying to eat things that come in discreet increments (e.g. a can of tuna). I also take photos of servings of things on my scale so that when I have to eyeball something I have a reference. But I am also DEFINITELY underestimating calories, everyone does. Especially when there is restaurant food involved (the butter!!). So at the best of times calorie counting is not an exact science. And then you have to factor in different health conditions that affect weight loss especially for women, that adds to the inaccuracy of it all.
My thought process in lowering calorie target by 100 is that Iβm trying to find that 500 calorie deficit window that kicks the weight loss into a bit of a faster gear. Such that even if my calorie counting is only accurate within a range, lowering that range should make a difference.1 -

@CandieMarie, I agree that the relative drop is going to be useful, even if the absolute values are going to be a bit off. Go for it!
I have been agressively losing the last couple of days because I know I am going to put back some of it over the next few days. I have several trips coming up over the next few weeks and it's going to be harder to keep a gym routine and also not willing to miss out on some of the foods that I don't normally see at home.
Day to day basis, it's demoralising to see fluctuations. Week to week and month to month, it feels a bit more reassuring when it follows a more stable downward trend.1 -

I am happy to have met and exceeded my goal for July since June was such a rough month. I have changed up a few things now so my goals will remain conservative so that I don't disappoint myself. My big focus in August will be more aligned with strength training and focusing on lifting heavy things to get some increased muscle , which will only help burn more fat.

Hot day today and I have my walking shorts on that were uncomfortably tight when I started this journey in March. They are now almost too loose. Sticking to the plan despite the ups and downs of the scales, small wins add up.

I did 1.5 hours of cycling and we are in a heat wave so who knows how much water has accumulated. I put in a lot of effort to retain less water but it seems to happen anyway. Thinking of trying compression socks to help with the cankles lol.

@SofaKween See, those are the non scale victories (NSVs) I'm talking about -- some other measurement that proves what you're doing is working, not that we couldn't tell you're kicking butt. Congrats on the almost-too-loose workout shorts!
@HappyDonkey75 I hope your knee is treating you well. How is the horse doing -- the one you went to pick up. Is he stable and at the other farm now? If you updated us, I missed it.
@canadamarie In the morning, my ankles are thin. By the end of the day, after sitting and working, then working out, then standing doing housework, etc: Cankles too. HATE it. In the winter I don't tend to have this issue -- and we have AC; it's just something about summer. Compression socks might work; definitely worth reading more about. When I used to have to wear pantyhose/skirts for work, those often acted a lot like compression stockings. I did not have the cankle issue back then.
