Reached all my goals yesterday. Phew! I got about 80% of the cooking done; need to finish up before work today. Did not get any laundry done, so that's going to be after work.

This coming Sunday night, our church is having a 1950's-1960's pot luck party, with poodle skirts and bowling shirts and all that jazz. I pulled out my grandmother's 1964 Betty Crocker cookbook. I'm making a traditional molded tropical jello salad from that viral Polynesian kitsch obsession in that era. Some of those jello salads sounded disgusting: lemon Jello with cabbage and sweet pickles?!? Hahahaha. But yet fun to look back and see what my parents and grandparents would make.

08/06-189.2-(Trend Weight 189.6)- I did end up eating a very late dinner last night (about midnight). So I’m flip-flopping that same pound back and forth. I travel Wednesday which will probably affect Thur. weigh-in. I also travel Friday which will likely affect Sat. weigh-in. It will be a volatile week but I will try to make wise food choices since the exercise front will be greatly affected. I really, really, really would love to do well in August.

08/07-188.2-(Trend Weight 189.5)- My weight keeps bouncing around the same exact pound—188.2 to 199.2 and then back. Weird pattern! At least my trend weight keeps creeping down. Today I travel for dental cleanings for myself and son, then meeting my contractor in that town for roof supply shopping at a big box home improvement store. I’ll take him to lunch afterward. I’ll choose wisely. It’s so much easier to order in front of other people LOL. Have a great hump day everyone.

Hi all! Got those scales moving down again. Despite chronic fatigue I have tried to be active but am really struggling- working last week is still affecting me. Does anyone else have fibromyalgia? It’s literally being in pain all day every day - bloody awful. Not to mention doing normal things like showering are tiring.

Hello I'm Darlene. Retired, 64-year-old. Married (Greg), one adult daughter (Allyson), and one goldendoodle (Monty), back for another month with this supportive group. I have been on this weight loss journey since January 2023, and with this group since April 2023. I have lost 84.5 pounds since the beginning of my journey. This group (along with a couple others I am in) has played a very important part in me reaching my goals. Thank you @jm216 for setting it up again this month! I and working on my last 10ish pounds to goal (may change that when I get there). Happy to be back for another month.

    Starting Weight 228

    SW Dec: 228 | Jan: 217 | Feb: 212 | Mar: 207.6 | Apr 200.2 | May 194.8 | Jun: 189.6 | Jul: 187.4 | Aug: 179.8 | Sep: 174.2 | Oct: 169.6 | Nov 164.6 | Dec 164 | Jan 159.8 | Feb 156.8 | Mar 152.8 | Apr 151.6 | May 149.6 | Jun 145 | Jul 143.5

    My August Goals

👣 Average 10k Steps per day
    📝 Log Daily
🥗 Stay under my calorie range
💪 Strength Train 3 days per week
🫀 Cardio 3 days per week
🦵 PT Knee Stretch and Strength 3 days per week
    🧘‍♀️ 1Rest day - stretch routine
🏡Declutter - one day per week
    💦 8+ glasses of water
    🧂Stay under sodium goal
⚖️ Lose 2% of body weight

My July Reflection for anyone who cares to read:
    July Reflection

July was a tough month for me. I do not really understand why I lost motivation this month, but probably a combination of not being able to do my normal exercise routine coupled with getting close to my goal and self-sabotage.

I lost 1.5 pounds this month. My goal was to at least lose 2% of my body weight which would have been about 3 pounds. I got close for a couple of days – but then went over the top and gained some back. The good thing is that I got back at it right away and did not allow the one-day binges to continue into a weekend, or weeklong binge. Down 84.5 pounds since I started this journey.

Exercise was different for me this month as well. The doctor asked that complete non weight bearing exercises, so no real walking. My strength, cardio, stretch, and steps were all done in the chair most of the month. I did get the green light to start up again at the end of the month and am slowly transitioning from chair to standing.

Now for the good news – I reached the 1,500-mile marker on my quest to walk 2,024 miles in 2024, logging about 150 miles in July (mostly seated). I found a place on my Garmin app which gives me the total intentional exercise time – so much easier for me to track my second goal which was 2,024 miles of intentional exercise (I count 20 minutes as a mile). I was previously doing it on an excel spreadsheet – which probably wasn’t too accurate. With this new calculation I am at 1,181 miles to date – just where I should be to complete it for the year. I can do it.

There are a lot of obstacles in my way for the month of August. Family picnic this weekend, followed by my birthday, then a three-day girl’s trip to Turning Stone Casino, and then finally a three-day trip for my wedding anniversary. With that in mind am going to keep the same goal as July – a 2% loss. Yes, I would love to see that ideal number (3.5 pounds), but that dangling carrot hasn’t helped me with my goals, so am going to shoot for that in September when it is much more reachable. It is also break time for both the Hogwarts and BLC challenges – so need to motivate myself – not as easy to do.

I have thought a lot about what my final goal should be. My initial goal was five pounds under the ideal range or 135 pounds. But when I look at myself, I still do not see fit. So am adjusting it to 100-pound loss or January 8, 2025 (my two-year starting date) whichever comes first.

    My Goals for August:

    • 2% loss for the month (about 2.5 pounds)
    • Alternate Cardio and Strength
    • Average 11K Steps per day
    • Continue Physical Therapy Knee exercise – every other day
    • Reduce Calories Gained by Exercise to 25% of earned

My Before and After for July

    ldfkboqhv5kl.png

    WEEK ONE
Aug 1: 142.8 😁 👣 📝 🥗 💪 💦 🧂 I'll never get it - didn't really do anything different - but a nice swish. Nothing exciting happening - end of the month is reflection and budget day so spent a good amount of time at the computer. I added a new goal this month - declutter - thinking one declutter thing a week. We'll see how that goes on my goal to become more minimalistic. My Aunt cancelled the family picnic that was planned for this weekend. My other Aunt is up from Florida and we were all going to get together - but it is supposed to rain all day so she cancelled. I'm sorry to see it because I haven't seen a couple of my cousins in a long time - but one less temptation this month is probably a good thing as August is filled with one to many for me.

Aug 2: 142.7 😁👣 📝 🥗 🦵🫀 💦 🧂Nice day yesterday, went out on the boat, a little dip in the water. I love our little lake (which only town resisdents can use). I counted the boats that were on the water - 2 boats, 1 jet ski, and a paddle board (plus us). My knee was feeling great yesterday, and I got in 17K steps. This was my daily goal pre knee injury so was so happy to see it. I'm feeling a little sore this morning though, so will curb it a little today.

Aug 3: 142.4 😁👣 📝 🥗 💪 💦 🧂Hot and Humid in Connecticut yesterday. Got our walk in, but was super sticky. We harvested our first pot of potatoes (we picked the little one to see how they were doing) and got seven good potatoes from the pot. Super happy with that. After a terrible garden year, it was nice to see some profits from our work. We talked about next year's garden and all we can seem to grown this year is tomatoes and potatoes (and ok arugula). Even the fruit trees - no apples, no pears - we do have peaches but the squirrels are taking them one by one before they are ripe. No big plans for today - it's also going to be a hot and humid one.

Aug 4: 142.5 👣 📝 🥗🦵🫀 💦 🧂One of my spare bedrooms has my treadmill in it and a weight machine. We had a twin sized bed in there as well (it was Allyson's room way back when). Finally decided to get rid of the bed. Also cleaned out the bureau - now the bureau is empty (going to move some things from my bedroom to make it so my closet isn't stuffed) and we moved the ab chair into the room. Threw away a big bag of stuff, another big bag going to good will and a couple bags of stuff for Allyson to go through. If she doesn't want it another two bags to goodwill. Now it is truely a workout room. 😊

Aug 5: 142.9 📝 🥗 🧘‍♀️🧂Rest and stretch day for me. I also didn't get all my water in - hoping the uptick is just that. Tonight is bingo with the Mom and the gang. Celebrating my birthday (and one of the other in Mom's circle of friends). So will have a light eating day today to make up for the cupcakes tonight. Prelogged my day and if I stick to it should still end up with a deficit. Cleaned out the closet in the workout room - another two bags to goodwill.

Aug 6: 143.2 👣 📝 💪🦵 💦 🧂Totally expected, the cupcake sugar high made me ravenous and when I got home I binged - added another 650 calories of junk to the mix. Back at it today. Good thing is that I won for a change - went bingo twice, and won the $10 door prize.

    WEEK TWO

    👣 📝 🥗 💪🦵🫀 💦 🏡🧂

Aug 7: 142.9 👣 📝 🥗 🫀 💦🧂Good day yesterday. Didn't get the expected amount of rain they were predicting, so got in my AM walk. We also took a drive to the shore, took a little stroll down the boardwalk at the mouth of the Connecticut River.

Aug 8: 143.4 👣 📝 💪🦵Over my sodium goal yesterday and my calorie limit was 12 calories over - I know not by much but the sodium on top of it and the scale shows every bit of my being off plan. I haven't been sleeping well either which I think contributes to the scale. Today is my actual birthday (64), but not doing much today - will celebrate tomorrow and Saturday when Allyson will be here.

Another day that went well yesterday. Met all my goals. I feel hopeful that my August goal is within reach. ✨✨✨

I went through my costume stash and gladly found that I have the perfect 1950's party dress, pillbox hat, satin gloves, and pearl purse. No need to sew a poodle skirt - yay saving time! I needed to let out the waist on one of my crinolines, last time I wore that, I was 15 pounds lighter. The satin gloves had a slight tear on one of the fingers; not a big surprise, as I do let grandkids regularly play in the costumes and it gets crazy down there, plus we loan costumes out at Halloween time and I don't always check them for damage as they're coming back in. Both repairs went pretty quickly, and I'm bagging up my outfit in a garment bag today.

@ilive2walk 🎉 happy birthday to you! 🌸🪇🎉 I hope you have a gloriously relaxing day. [And thank you for the link.]

    @patti241 welcome! 🌸

@ozdeelite I don't have fibro but a friend does. I do have other autoimmune disorders though, (7 of them, intestinal and skin autoimmune disorders). It definitely does make everyday life really challenging, and tries my patience, as well as my self-esteem, with my limitations. Sometimes I feel defeated; sometimes I feel determined. Mostly the latter, I hope. Depends on the day, and I never know what unintentional trigger is going to send my body into overdrive kill-me mode. I just never know what these disorders are going to do from one day to the next, which my friend said is really similar to how her fibro affects her. Sometimes the reaction doesn't happen for days, like doms, so trying to think back and identify the specific trigger can be really challenging. Like you, some days all I can do is drag my sorry butt to work and back. I hope that helps, just to know that at least one person here has a pretty good idea what you go through when you're having a flare.

@deepwoodslady I see that overall trend inching down! You can do this! 💪🌟 How did things go with the contractor yesterday? Are you guys 'friendly' again or is he still relationally challenging?

@jm216 dance vacuuming! Haha, yes. I used to do dance mowing! Neighbors thought I was completely cracked, but hey it got the job done. 😀 Good for you for making a chore a little bit more fun.

@cattherien It's going much better mainly because things are going more his way than mine, so I'm just focusing on progress!

I’ll choose wisely. It’s so much easier to order in front of other people LOL. Have a great hump day everyone.

08/08-188.8-(Trend Weight 189.4)- I typed it wrong yesterday—I meant that I’ve been bouncing back & forth between 188.2 and 189.2 Not 199! Anyway, I’m up today and not surprised since I traveled yesterday for the dentist. No cavities for me, 3 for my son so we have to go back for him in Sept and Oct. for fillings and a “core filling”. Ate at a steak house and one of the sides was Alfredo so I’m not surprised I’m up a bit. Experience tells me this could have been much much worse. Crew is back today to hopefully finish up the last of the windows. Ordered the roofing supplies yesterday which is $350.00 for delivery just to the end of the driveway! I was shocked!

Aug 9: 143.4 👣 📝 🥗 🫀 💦🧂Quiet but nice day yesterday. Monty gets a haircut today. Allyson comes over tonight, trying a new mexican restaurant that opened up in town a couple months ago. My Aunt gave me a scratch ticket in my birthday card and I won $90! 😁

Yay inchy-inch for me, too. I did go over on calories yesterday by a significant amount; I was trying a new lower-salt meal prep burger recipe and overshot my calories. Glad to have a little foreman grill though to cook a bit, taste, and then adjust seasoning. I have those old fashioned Tupperware burger keepers for the freezer and made a bunch of patties. It's way cheaper making my own and I can control gluten/soy fillers and salt this way.

Today is work, and I also need to start that vintage fruit and sherbet jello recipe. I'm starting it today so that in case it doesn't work, I have tomorrow to change what I'm bringing for the pot luck.

@deepwoodslady oh your contractor sounds like a real curmudgeon. 🤦🫣😂 Yikes to the roofing materials delivery charge, and not even next to the house!! 🤦🤷 Oh a brighter note though, yay to windows nearly finished, and inching back down on that trend! 🐛 🎉 Best of luck on that stress test today; I hope they do the correct test this time.

@ozdeelite you're welcome. ❤️ And I see you have a nice little inchy-inch downward toward that 107 goal! Keep it up! 🐛🎉

@ilive2walk how nice to get that scratch ticket as a birthday gift! 🎁

Hi all. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Worked the last 2 days and my body decided it was too much so I’m now too exhausted to move and limping like a cripple.

To add to it the scales went up again but I did have Chinese food last night and late night dessert.

I doubt I will be doing much the next 2 days other than sleeping but am hoping I’m not such a train wreck tomorrow.

Aug 9: 144.5 👣 📝 💪🦵Out last night to celebrate my birthday. I logged everything and it wasn't pretty. But I did have a nice time.

FYI the Hogwarts and BLC challenges are both registering for the next rounds. Here are the links for anyone that is interested. For me they make the whole losing weight thing fun.

BLC challenge - 12 Weeks Runs Sept 4 though Nov 27 - Full disclosure I am the leader of the Determined Desert Tortoises so think it is the best team - we just have one spot left on our team. There are a lot of good teams out there though - something for everyone.

    Hi,
I'm Cindy. I'm 50, 5'4" and 159.6 as of Aug 1st. Lost 4.6 lbs in July. I didn't quite reach my goal weight for July, but I was close. I have fought with the same 10lbs for the last year.
So my doctor wants to put me on Wegovy or Zepbound. Between the cost and doing a little research, I don't think its a great solution for me. Looks like it might be a rest of life commitment. No thank you!

Started at the gym 7/3. Been going 5 days a week. Missed a few days due to life.

I see my doctor again at the end of August, so I want to loose at least 10 lbs by then to prove I can do it without meds. My ultimate goal is 135 lbs.

    Starting weight: 164.2 (July 1, 2024)
    August starting weight: 159.6
    August goal weight: 155

Aug 1st - 159.6 :) - Used the rowing machine at the gym for the first time. My friend and I liked it. Why aren't more people using it. No one is ever on it.
Aug 2nd - 160  - Probably the few bites of cookies I had after dinner last night. My daughter wanted Crumble Cookie. How could I say no after the crazy week we have had?
    Aug 3rd - 160
Aug 4th - 160.4 :( - not paying attention to what I ate yesterday and ate dinner late. Need to work harder this week on what I am putting in my mouth. Last week was a little crazy and I was trying to feed a bunch of young adults. Needed quick, cheap, and easy.
    Aug 5th - 158.8 :) - Actually lost weight over the weekend!
Aug 6th - 157.4 :) - Not sure how that happened, but I will take it. Only did cardio at the gym yesterday afternoon. I was in a hurry. Had lots to do yesterday evening.
    Aug 7th - 157.6
    Aug 8th - 158 :(
Aug 9th - 160.2 :( - Very tired this week. Not really sure what is going on except maybe stress. Still going to the gym, but mostly cardio this week and very little weights.
Aug 10th - 159 :) - Scale finally moving back the other direction.
