Update: I think I read the article wrong about Tara and she completed the trail last night, not at noon yesterday, so it was about 12 hours after I met Michael.1
-
Wow @quilteryoyo that was a super eventful hike! So cool you met Mike Wardian! I hadn't heard about Tara Dower's new FKT on the AT. Amazing!3
-
@quilteryoyo good you got to get out. Beautiful part of the world you have there!3
-
I am jealous of your run and race reports @quilteryoyo and @martaindale. I’d love to do both!
My race dreams have been thwarted. I was supposed to do the Blue Lakes this weekend but after my soggy 15k on Friday my hip flexors we’re so super tight. I had most seized up back lots of stretching and rolling over the weekend but when I tried to run today, it wasn’t having it.
I could probably do the Blue Lakes given that as it’s a 24 hour event, so you can run really really slowly, but I am booked for a half marathon the following weekend which I want to be able to run fairly well, so I thought I’d pull out of the Blue Lakes and save myself for the Omaha Half - In between now and then i need to work out what the hell is going on with my hips and back.7 -
Morning all
Got in 5.65M at 10"08
@quilteryoyo love the pictures! Looks amazing.
@martaindale well done Sarah! Sounds a lovely run!5 -
Ok, I'll try to run again tonight. Toe is still broken but I don't have any pain unless I put the foot down incorrectly.9

Solo run again today as our office day got cancelled due to the bad weather.
I thought I was a bit sluggish after a 3 day rest but I managed to knock 30s off my previous 5k PB! It was only when I was updating this that I realised I’d also reached my monthly goal, too, with 3 runs to go. Hurrah!My PR’s:

Longest run - 4.63mi/7.44k6 -
Oh @ContraryMaryMary so sorry that you have to pull out of the race this weekend. Hope those hip flexors relax ☹️
@quilteryoyo glad you got to experience the beautiful outdoors, but sad to hear about those $#@! Shin splints 😡 I very much know what you feel. Hope they go away soon!
Was just finishing eating breakfast when I heard/saw thunder/lighting. I forgot it was supposed to rain this morning. I don't mind running in the rain if I'm already out, but don't enjoy starting out in it (plus it there was lightning). So did my easy Monday on the TM. Oh, I guess that's goal for the month.

@martaindale They are both amazing. I think Tara had to do like 60 miles a day and Michael is going for at least 50 miles, but his friend said he was having to increase to 52 miles since he had to take a couple of days off of the trail to get some work in.
Thanks @WarmJellyfish . I love this part of the world.
@ContraryMaryMary I am so sorry that your hip and back are bothering you and your going to have to pull out of the 24 hour race. I hope you get it figured out and are able to run your HM. Back issues are so hard to figure out.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Great run this morning before spending the day at work.
@yirara I hope you are able to run tonight. Just take it easy.
Congrats on your PB and reaching your goal already @AmunahSki !
Thanks @Scott6255 . My shins are fine this morning. I did a stupid thing and borrowed some trail running shoes on Saturday. I know better. I just needed to give them a short rest. If I am going to try to do trails, I need to go to the store and get some trail shoes that are good for over pronation. Nice treadmill run this morning on your part. Lightening is a firm NO for me too. Congrats on making your goal too.

I ran 4.25 miles from home this morning which means hills, hills and more hills. It started raining lightly about mile 2 but like @Scott6255 I don’t mind it when I’m already out there. It felt refreshing. I did wish for a hat though to keep the rain out of my eyes.
Congratulations on your 50K @WarmJellyFish!
Good to know about the MyNetDiary app @daria0919. I’m not currently tracking my food (should be) but the ability to scan the bar code and get all the information instantly loaded into your tracker was a feature that I used all the time when I did log.
@martaindale – Love that medal! The course sounds beautiful and so does all the after race food! Congratulations!
@quilteryoyo – We’re doing the Run LoCo Half Marathon in Lenoir City, Tennessee. It’s on December 7 – come on down and run with us! Sounds like your hike turned out to be lovely. Very cool that you got to meet the guy doing the entire trail in 50 days. Even with a support crew following you around, that’s still quite a feat. I followed Tara Dowers (aka Candy Mama) some and am so happy for her breaking the record.
So sorry for your hip issues @ContraryMaryMary. I know you are disappointed to miss Blue Lakes but you are being smart. I hope you heal soon and get all the kinks worked out before your half marathon.
Congrats on your 5K PR @AmunahSki!

18.09 back from summer vacation. Bumped pinky toe (again) on a rock. Might have broken it this time. Or at least thoroughly dislocated. Oh yeah, and the nail is off again. Yeah, this toe takes some beating.
23.09 1.2km 8:20min/km 9min
total 1.2km
Just wanted to see whether running is possible. My pinkie toe still looks like a rainbow, but as long as I'm careful I'm able to run.5 -
@quilteryoyo Even though your run/hike didn’t go as you might have planned, it sounds like it was really quite an adventure and did sound like a lot if fun! It’s so cool you saw someone doing a 50 day AT attempt too!
@ContraryMaryMary It’s understandable and sounds very reasonable that you are sitting the 24 hour race out, but I understand that you are bummed. Good luck healing up before the HM.
@martaindale You guys doing runs in the US seem to always have such nice feasts and treats afterwards ! It sounds awesome! And your race sounded like a lot if fun. Over here it’s like, oh, you finished a marathon, well here are your apple and banana slices and we’ll get all fancy and give you an alcohol free beer to wash it down with .
@Scott6255 I think thunder and lightening is a valid reason to choose the treadmill .
Today was a rest day, but I had the extra time still that I would have otherwise used running. So instead of working extra hours, I opted to take a walk on one of my running routes. It was really nice to be able to look at the scenery in slower motion and appreciate how nice and green everything is. I walked 5.4km.
Tomorrow I have a short tempo run planned. So far husband + 1 kid are sick, another kid was kind of sick, but seems to have dodged the worst symptoms. It is something respiratory related… Just hoping I can make it to Sunday without picking it up myself….7 -

The plan called for a 10K race or simulated race today instead of the usual long, slow, easy run. Since I didn't have a race planned this weekend, I did the workout Hal prescribed. It called for a warm up, then 4x100 meter intervals, then 6.2 miles at10K pace and then a cooldown. I did add a little to the warm up and cool down to get 10 miles instead of 8.2 (I have other goals besides this half in November), but other than that I tried to stick to the workout. It was nice when I started out, and getting warm by the end, but I think that had as much to do with running hard instead of running easy. Overall it was a nice run, and I felt good about it afterwards. I did order some new shoes. They should be here Wednesday.
I added to this draft yesterday and thought I had posted it, but I did not. At least the bulk of the post was saved. So I am adding today's run to the post and I 'll try to remember what I added yesterday evening.
I ran 3.3 misty miles today. It wasn't really raining, but it was definitely wet. I am not one to enjoy running in the rain that much, so I found it a bit annoying, but it was 63° so that was nice.
@warmjellyfish congrats on your 50K.
Sounds like a great race @Martaindale and I love the medal!
@tarun_yadavA You should definitely go for the 2024!
@quilteryoyo I'm glad what started out as a disappointing day turned out to be such a lovey hike. And how awesome that you got to meet Michael Wardian. I'm glad your shins are better today too.
@ContraryMaryMary I hate that you had to bail on the 24 hour run, but you are making the smart decisions. I hope your hips are much better in time for the half.
@yirara Sorry about the toe!
@laurz9191 Fingers crossed that you stay healthy!

Nice rainy run @Teresa502 . I looked up the HM you are doing and it sounds like a great one. But, I will be leaving for FL on the 11th and doing the T-Minus 10 miler on the 14....probably shouldn't try to do both. I'm sure you will love it.
Glad your test run went well @yirara . I hope you don't hit it again.
Thanks @Laurz9191 . It was fun. Sounds like a great walk and glad you are still symptom free. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
Thanks @kgirlhart . Nice runs on your part. I love how you modified your plan. Sorry about the rain, but glad the temps were okay.
I hope your foot is okay and you enjoy the 5K this weekend @daria0919 .

I went to the gym this morning and got another PR for the deadlift - 100 pounds.
After I got home, I did a short run on the driveway. I only had 30 min to run so that I could cool off and make it to lunch with mom and a friend. I wasn't trying to run fast, so was pleased that the Avg pace was 13:24 min/mile. Avg HR was 131 with a max of 149 bpm.8 -
Morning all
Got in 8.08M at 10"20.
@quilteryoyo thank you! 😊
@ContraryMaryMary sorry to read all that 😞
And sorry you couldn't do that race8 -
Wow, I didn't realize but it has been a week since I ran outside Got in 7 miles this morning. Training plan called for a progression run, so after a 5 min warm up, just run 30 min easy, then 10 minutes hard, finish with a cool down. Thought it would be cooler than lower 70s, but it wasn't all that bad. But I was more tired than I should have been.

Hi everyone!
I completed an 8.2km run this morning, with 4x 5minute tempo intervals. Everything went well and the weather was nice. My throat hurt a bit this morning, but I was ok running and I feel pretty ok now. We'll see.... Tomorrow's run involves some short sprints and then it will be all short and easy runs on out till Sunday .
237/270km for September.8
