Beautiful area @yirara. Where is that?
It looks like you are having fun in Italy @Teresa502. Enjoy all the pizza and croissants! We had pistachio croissants somewhere in Italy that were the best I have ever had anywhere. Highly recommend if you come across that option.
@Laurz9191 I agree, the heat and humidity affect me so much! Just the little drop from almost 80F to mid 70’s has been enough to notice some improvement in my HR and effort. I hope the weather cooperates for your race but it’s good you have a game plan for adjustments if you need to. It’s still better to finish upright and smiling than blow up and not finish at all, even if it’s slower than you were planning.
@7lenny7 Good luck!! I read this article about Courtney Dauwalter and she said she thinks the word robot over and over again like a meditation during long stretches where she is struggling. The article was titled Happy Robot, which I like better than just robot since it has a positive tone and you could say each word on alternating feet. It has popped into my head a couple of times recently on longer runs.6 -
Sept total: 13.6/115 miles
YTD: 688.4/1200 miles
9/2: 6.6 miles
9/5: 7 miles
It was a bit warmer today ahead of some rain coming in later this afternoon and some cooler weather over the weekend. We are actually going to see lows in the 60’s!! I’m so excited. Motivation is easier to come by when it’s pleasant outside.
Today was a struggle. I went to Pilates last night and we did heavy weight legs so even though I’m not sore (yet) my muscles are tired so I had lead legs. I also got started later than I should have and my blood sugar was probably getting a bit low; I was feeling a little bonk-y by the end. I ended up walking more and more frequently as the run went along but I got it done.7 -
17k so far.
I'm being a complete klutz and posted a higher than needed total mileage goal for the month earlier. Might be hobbling more than running in the last week. Oh well, don't try don't know.7 -
@Teresa502 aww love this! 😊
Glad I could help!
Looking at the deep fried pizza and the sfogliatella... Enjoy tomorrow's laps of the ship! 😊5 -

I am on my second week of running. I finally was able to make it 2 miles last night. So I'm going starting slow and building my way up. I have done 3 miles since Monday (9/2). I setting a personal goal of 8 miles a week for now, or 32 miles for September.9

@martaindale I like that mantra, thanks! I'm a fanboy for Dauwalter and she's the only elite runner I follow. I got to run with her and her mom for a couple of miles 2 years ago when we ran the 50 mile at this same event. I'll have to look for that article tonight.
My phone's camera isn't working so well since I took it swimming two weeks ago but for idea of the course, there are some great photos here

Sounds great @Teresa502 ! That food looks delicious!
Very cool @yirara . Thanks for the pictures! Those are some really small volcanoes.
@martaindale Sorry your run was a struggle today. Great job on hanging in there and getting it done.
@WarmJellyfish Your posted goal is just a number. If you need to adjust it to keep healthy, go ahead. There is no goal police on this thread. LOL
Welcome @moonlitrose25 . I'm impressed that you are already doing two miles if you just started running. Eight miles a week sounds like a very reasonable goal.
@7lenny7 That looks like a really pretty place for a run, but rugged. Have fun!4 -

13.80/70 mile goal
I didn't get a chance to post last night, so am posting two runs. Yesterday was a wun after the gym and before people came to give me an estimate for new gutters. I wasn't sure how I'd do because my legs were tired from the gym workout, but I went fast enough to call it a run...minus the warm up and cool down walks.
Today, I did the planned drill workout again. I lacked motivation, but did okay. Cadence 30 second splits were 9:43, 9:38, and 9:35 min/mile (missed the first one again). Managed about 186 spm cadence.
I played round robin doubles tennis tonight. It was fun and we had some great tennis, even though my partners and I lost all three of the sets we played. Sounds like I was the weak link tonight.7 -
September Goal: 140 Miles
9/1: 11.02 miles
9/2: 3.15 miles
9/3: 6.02 miles
9/4: 4.11 miles
9/5: 6.25 miles
30.57/140 miles completed for September
No rain today, but it was very humid. Today's run was 400 m intervals at 5K pace. I think I did ok with the workout. It was 2 miles warm up, 100 m fast/100 m recover x 4, then 400 m fast/400 m recover x 6 then half a mile cool down. I ran all the paces faster than Hal suggested, and I got mixed up in the second interval so for the first few intervals I ran the fast portion slow and the slow portion fast. But I still ran intervals even if I did some of them backwards. It was a fun run, and I saw two raccoons, a mama and a baby.

@quilteryoyo and @SummerSkier thanks for the kind words, as always 😊😊
@Teresa502 what's next on the itinerary?5 -
Target: 40 miles/64.3k
1 Sept: 3.14mi/5.05k
4 Sept: 4mi/6.43k
6 Sept: 4.53mi/7.28k
Total 11.67mi/18.77k
So… after last night’s silent disco, dancing for 2.5 hours non-stop and getting home late, I confess I didn’t feel much like running for 50 minutes this morning but I did it anyway - just real slow - and clocked up my longest run, but it was nowhere NEAR 6 miles! I wonder if I was thinking in km?
After a few months off, tomorrow I return to my normal Saturday routine of teaching children to ski on our local dry slope, which mostly consists of about 5 hours of running up and down a hill wearing ski boots and a helmet, with an occasional bit of skiing: this used to be my main fitness activity, so it will be interesting to see what the running has changed. My PR’s:
1k: 6:39
1m: 11:06
2m: 23:22
5k: 36:04
Longest run/walk - 5.18mi/8.36k
Longest run - 3.95mi/6.35k6 -
Hi Everyone!
My goal today was to have a successful speed workout after my last couple of disapointing attempts. I felt like I needed to get a win and give myself back a bit of confidence. My main training plan wanted me to run 12 miles with at least 10 of those at race pace. I really didn't want to do this run. I felt like my legs could deal with quicker as long as the overall distance was shorter, so I followed a suggestion from my watch for a tempo workout and aced it. It wasn't easy, and I was more than 10 seconds faster/km than I should have been, but I held that pace for 41 minutes, did a little cooldown, and then ran the last km of my run at my race pace. So overall a run I was very happy with. I ran 11.5km.
67.2/240ish km for September.
@yirara Nice pictures! I didn't know Fuertoventura had little volcanoes, and now I learned that the Canary Islands are all volcanic .
@kgirlhart That sounds like a nice run and with racoons!

@yirara Nice pictures! I didn't know Fuertoventura had little volcanoes, and now I learned that the Canary Islands are all volcanic .
You're welcome! The main volcanism is a hot spot, similarly to what's happening underneath Hawaii: the spot remains at the same location and the oceanic plate moves over it, creating a chain of islands. Most volcanoes on the Canaries are fairly small and of the cindercone type: they only erupt once and then stop for ever. And there are even smaller, just few meter high 'cones' that originate from lava getting into contact with sea water. Few stratovolcanoes, and everything sits on a former shield volcano. Pretty cool stuff (well, I think so).7 -
On a whim, I went for a second run yesterday. I was stiff and sore this morning but felt better as the day went on. So I did it again today. It has turned into a Run/Walk thing but I was glad that I did it and got a couple extra miles.
