Poor Shanaber. It’s very sad to hear she lost her a battle. Hobbes will definitely miss her4

Today’s run was supposed to be about the same as Monday: since I was at the office I took a late lunch break and explored the local area, decided to go run around the lake. However, coming back I misread a worn finger post and took a wrong turn, so ended up on the wrong side of the river - and a longer run to the next bridge… hence, I got a new PR for my longest run/walk and longest run distance! And to think, just 14 weeks ago I couldn’t contemplate running ONE mile, let alone accidentally running an extra 1.3 miles
@shubox1 Way to go! Cheering you on!My PR’s:
1k: 6:39
1m: 11:06
2m: 22:59
5k: 36:04

Part of my run this morning was along the trail in my neighborhood. I haven't been there is a while. I could tell my legs were using muscles that hadn't been exercised much recently. I need to make it a point to mix that in more frequently to keep all those supporting muscles in shape.7 -
Morning all.
Got in 8.64 miles at 09"51.7 -

@quilteryoyo I would absolutely LOVE to. Florida is good for me - one of my best friends lives a bit further down in Ft Laudy (similarly, NJ - my first cousin who I'm close to). Unfortunately, I cant this year... I'd be flying a matter of days later. Off to Costa Rica with the family over Xmas and NYE.
That's our '4 of us' big trip ... We did US+Mexico in 2021, South Africa in 2022, India in 2023... Costa Rica for 2024.8 -
@tarun_yadavA Costa Rica sounds like a fun family trip.
@quilteryoyo good on you for signing up for your annual 10 mile race.
6.25 miles this morning. Plan said 'Easy Run' but it didn't feel like it. The heat and humidity are back, so that was probably the reason.
6 -
Sept 1 – 2.03 miles
Sept 2 – 3.00 miles
Sept 4 – 3.00 miles
Sept 5 – 4.00 miles
Sept 8 – 4.42 miles
Sept 10 – 5.65 miles
Sept 12 – 6.40 miles for @shanaber
Total 28.50 miles
My running buddy canceled on me last minute but it turned out good because instead of the normal 5 miles, I kept going to get 6.4 miles in memory of @shanaber. Thinking about her and Hobbes, her husband and daughter kept me distracted so I didn't really notice going further.
@tarun_yadavA - Hope you have a wonderful trip to Costa Rica and see a lot of sloths! I visited there in 2018. We rented a car and driving was fairly easy until you came to the one lane bridges...oh and the motorcycles that just cut in and out and zipped all around you. If you rent a car, be sure to get the insurance!7 -
Thanks @kgirlhart and @Laurz9191 . I'm glad jury duty didn't turn out to be as bad as they made it sound in the letter and I can still make other plans. Both of you had great runs yesterday.
@WarmJellyfish Weather is so fickle.
Great @shubox1 .
You did great @AmunahSki ! Getting lost (taking a wrong turn) is a great way to add mileage.
You're doing great with your streak @daria0919 !
I hope your next run is better @ContraryMaryMary . Enjoy your rest day.
Nice run @martaindale .
Nice long, speedy run @tarun_yadavA ! Too bad about your family trip. Seriously, that sounds like a great family get-away. If it is a yearly thing, so is the race, so probably not going to ever be a possibility, unless the family decides to do the US again.
Thanks @Scott6255 . The humidity does make a huge difference in the feel of a run.
Nice run for @shanaber @Teresa502 .

@quilteryoyo I signed up for the T-Minus 10 Miler on Cape Canaveral SFS Dec 14.

still on summer vacation. 9th hike (kind of) during this trip. Today there were several 1-1.5km long walks. Might seem easy, but it was so stormy that I was nearly blown over from just lifting up one foot and not standing wide-legged anymore. Walked over somewhat tight mountain paths a few times, which wasn't the best idea. The lower part of my heavy solid oak hiking stick got blown away and was totally useless 🤣 it also hit my head. Getting back into my car was nearly impossible early on because I didn't realize how bad the wind was and from which direction it came 🤣😬6 -
@yirara That's some intense wind!
@tarun_yadavA What part of Costa Rica are you visiting? My family visited a few years ago and loved it!3 -

Pre work super easy miles this morning. I really wasn't in the mood to do this run, and contemplated just taking a walk. I knew that I would be glad I did it once it was over.
These very early morning runs are the only runs that I do fasted, and it's noticeable. I honestly don't know if it's so much the fasted part or the lack of coffee that makes them hard. Also, like @Scott6255 said the humidity is back and that makes for a bit of a slog as well. So, I purposefully ran just about as slowly as I can and it was ok. My work schedule is changing so I'll probably be doing more of these runs in the coming months. I'm hoping that as it cools off and I start doing them more frequently, they'll get easier.6 -

I ran a 4 mile tempo run today. It was back up to 70°F today. The run went well though. I ran faster on the warm up and cool down than I was supposed to, but I hit the paces on the run part. I've been enjoying the speedwork more than I expected. Sometimes I like to just zone out and run, but it is also interesting to add the speed work in and run with a goal in mind.

Nice running @emptydog .
Great tribute run @Laurz9191 . That weather sounds great, even if a bit chilly.
Sounds like challenging hiking/conditions @yirara . Glad you weren't hurt.
Nice easy run @martaindale . You got out the door and got it done!
@kgirlhart Great tempo run. Glad you are enjoying your plan and the speed work.3 -

I played doubles tennis tonight. It was round robin with 3 other ladies (one is a senior in HS). We only got to play 2 matches because it started to rain and the courts got wet. My teams won one and lost one.7 -

@Teresa502 @martaindale thank you! Yes, I've heard driving there is challenging... And will be making sure I've got Collision Damage Waiver excess and all the other excesses covered.
Hitting up four places... Mix of city / wildlife / beach vibes.
San Jose. Osa peninsula+ MonteVerde for the nature and wildlife. Guanacaste for NYE for all the 'wooooo costaaaa ricaaaa babyyyy puraaa vidaaa babyyy' Americans partying on the beach! 😊
@quilteryoyo won't always do big vacays in December. In fact the last 3 were all October into November. I think this one is/was dictated to by rainy season.
So you never know!
That said, given I have a buddy in Asheville and that lies kinda half way-ish between FL and NJ... I'm sure there must be some NC race on or something the next I do that trip!

The 10k in my city (tomorrow?) just canceled the kids' race because of a big storm that's headed our way... sounds like awesome weather to race in and I'm jealous I can't do it 🤣

Nice uneventful 4 miles… rabbits, sun, light showers, rainbow. I don’t relish going out in the rain but I don’t mind what happens after I’ve set off… I am pretty much hardened to teaching skiing through all weathers, from blistering sun to sleet and hail: the only time we cancel lessons is for lightning storms (which has only happened once in the last 8 years) because of the metal on the slope, skis, poles and poma lift!6 -
@polskagirl01 I generally like running in the rain at the end of a "running in the rain run" but not before going out and getting wet. Once I am wet, then I suppose I enjoy it, but it usually takes a while to get to that point .
Today I had a tempo workout planned 3x1600m repeats, then 2x 200 meter repeats. It is still quite cold out, but looks like it will be getting back up to "normal" temperatures in the next few days. I thought the workout would be really hard, but it was actually not difficult to hit all of my splits. I really think that I benefited greatly from the weather, but I will take it as a win. I can tell my overall endurance has improved, probably as a result of the long runs, as the 17.3km this morning didn't feel difficult, as well as my other long runs this week. I am starting to get excited about Berlin, although I am definitely someone who really enjoys the training process just as much as the event. Two weeks and two days to go.
150.3/270km for September.
