I LOVE to run in the rain but race.2 -
@tarun_yadavA Anything with carbs and perhaps a nice cocktail. Pizza and an Aperol? Or a nice Mojito, perhaps. I’m supposed to meet an old friend after the race who lives in Berlin, so wherever we find a place that does not require hours of walking or U-Bahn to get to . Worst case, room service .5

@tarun_yadavA I'm sure there are many races in NC. Let me know the next time you plan to be here and I'll see what I can find. Maybe we could talk @Teresa502 into meeting us for a race too. And maybe others in the "area."
Nice run @AmunahSki . I'm with you. I have enjoyed running in the rain, if it starts after I'm already out running. I don't think I have ever purposefully went out in the rain to run.
You are going to do great on your race @Laurz9191 !
@daria0919 Nice timing to get in day 13 of your streak on Friday the 13th! You're doing great.6 -

I went to the gym this morning. I was tired when I got home, so took a nice long nap.
I finally made myself get up and go out for a walk on the driveway. I just didn't have the motivation for running today.6 -

Morning all
Got in 5.8 (at 09"39).
Going out for a meal tonight (Cantonese). Youngest had his 11+ entrance exams (will have to translate to American another time)... But he's been studying most of the summer (excl his birthday) so treating him tonight. Wok rice! Lol
Have a nice wknd all10 -
I'm not sure I can even get the kids to youth group tonight because certain roads are flooded... but they're still holding the 10k in the city, and now people are fighting on Facebook about whether that was a good decision or not... meanwhile, it just keeps raining.
Hmmm... should I go rescue the pumpkins? I definitely don't want them to rot now that they've grown so well all summer. And by "rescue", I actually mean harvest by cutting up in the yard. I can't move them. Cutting them up would probably count as a workout for me (oooh, but it would be in the rain!) 😆7 -
@polskagirl01 Save the pumpkins!! They looks like they are doing so well. It would be a shame to have them rot on the wet ground.
@tarun_yadavA Good job to your son for getting through his exams. He earned his wok rice! Definitely come back and explain what the 11+ entrance exams are.4 -
Oh wow @polskagirl01 your pumpkins have grown up! I remember when they were just baby yellow flowers 😀 Yes I think you should do what you can to either save them or harvest them. It would be a shame for them to rot after all your hard work raising them.
I had to do a progression run today, but it was 79F when I woke up at 4am this morning, so I opted to do it on the treadmill. Wasn't as bad as I expected.

9/13 2:15:00, 13.1 miles *screams* Fitbit dead mid-run
9/14 3:00:00, 17 miles, Running Partner A & E 0600, naked running
So, I have come up against some obstacles. My fitbit died on Friday. Mid-run, just quit. I have read through some of the issues and I am not the only one it is happening to. Previously, I would have gone to the nearest store and bought a replacement. However, I had to be up at 1:30 AM Friday to get my run and then drive to conference in Nashville. Angry, but survived. I did a 'naked' run this morning and only timed my run and walk. I am going to use my past data and just underestimate a tad. It gutted me to not have my 'data' but while I was trying to rescue the fitbit, I discovered fitbit had deleted all my past data in the app (like MFP did). So, that lent to more irritation and realization I may be too dependent on the numbers. I know my numbers are mine and no one really gives a flip, but I really did like seeing the numbers. All that to say, I am going to spend some time running 'naked'. So, until I buy something else, all my runs will just show time and approximate mileage.

Hi everyone!
Yes, @polskagirl01 I would vote save the pumpkins, even if you have to get soaked.
@AlphaHowls I’m sorry to hear about your Fitbit. Please let us know how you find naked running. I was actually thinking about this exact thing on one of my runs the other day and whether or not it would be liberating to just listen to my body and not exactly know how fast and far I am running. I definitely wouldn’t do any more mini-laps by the car to get to the next km and I would probably pay more attention to my elapsed time over “known” distances.
This morning I decided to take it easy to recover a bit from yesterday, so I ran 7.1km. Tomorrow is a rest day and then Monday will be my final long fast finish run. I am still not sure how long to make the run though. My plan wants me to do 16 miles, but that sounds like overkill. I think a HM might be more reasonable 2 weeks out of race day. Any thoughts about the distance with 2 weeks to go? My Garmin is even more conservative telling me to run 1:45 which is basically 10 miles. Maybe I should flip a coin/roll the dice?
157.4/270km for September.5 -
Today was a really active day. My neighbor texted me to play tennis at 7 am (was it even going to be light?!!!) and I did not run yesterday so I decided to get up early and run before I played. Running that early taught me something - our neighborhood has a LOT of those fluffy black striped "cats" running around at that time. Back to warm and humid tho for another few weeks here. It was a gorgeous sunrise also and altho i did not capture the best parts I really enjoyed it all the way from just a hint of heavy red streaks to brilliant orange and red as the sun got higher.🌅
@AlphaHowls not sure how old your fitbit is but probably the battery is gone. Google did some huge updates the past few weeks - deleting the web site dashboard (where your data was I am thinking) and also there was an issue with my stride being set to 0 and now something is going crazy with the feed to MFP where is gives me 2-3x cal add to my diary. Sometimes 800 before I even have my first cup of coffee. there is a way on your phone app to export your data in fitbit but I haven't tried it. You just click at the top right on your photo and that is where the menu is for "stuff".
ANyway, I ran **naked** most of my life and it is really nice to not run naked. It's sort of like tracking my food. I did not track most of my life and so I don't find it a burden to know my cal input. Hope that you can figure out something. My apple watch is probably more accurate on distance than the fitbit but without a chest strap the HR data is not. Even the fitbit probably overstates HR. 🤷♀️🙃
Those pumpkins are HUGE. Too bad you can get them into a wheelbarrow or something to roll them up into and put them in a shed or garage until you can use them.
Congrats to your son Tarun! I imagine that is similar to SATs or such in the states.

@tarun_yadavA I'm sure he did great on his test and hope you all had a great dinner to celebrate.
@polskagirl01 I'm surprised they are holding the race if roads are flooded. If it was too dangerous for the kids, it should be too dangerous for the adults too. I vote for "rescuing" your pumpkins. It wouldn't be bad if they rotted after doing so well.
That's summer temps again @Scott6255 . I don't blame you for choosing a TM run.
Oh no @AlphaHowls . I'm glad you explained the "naked" run, because I was picturing all sorts of things. I hate that your watch died and that you lost all of your data. That would irritate me too. I think that is one reason why I am still "old school" and keep track of things in a journal too. I hope you "enjoy" your conference.
@Laurz9191 A HM is about in the middle of the two plans, so I would go with that....coming from someone who has only ran 13.1 miles once in their life and never a full.
@SummerSkier That's a really early run and tennis match. I hope you stayed away from those fluffy "cats." My tennis friends all know they are wasting their breath if they want me to play before 8:30 or 9:00.
You're doing great with the streak @daria0919 .3 -

Today's plan called for a magic half mile - warm up, run 2 miles, run fast half mile, 10 min cool down. It was a real struggle today from the beginning. Legs were like concrete and ..... I just don't know. I had to stop a couple of times to rest, walked more than normal, and at times just wanted to sit in the road and cry instead of going on. But, I made it. The half mile was at an 11:24 min/mile pace. Two weeks ago it was 10:34. Today was just one of those days. It will be better next time.

Sept total: 58.7/115 miles
YTD: 733.5/1200 miles
9/2: 6.6 miles
9/5: 7 miles
9/6: 5.2 miles
9/7: 10.1 miles
9/8: 3 miles
9/9: 3 miles
9/10: 5.7 miles
9/11: 7.1 miles
9/12: 3 miles
9/14: 8 miles
Rough one this morning. It was back to summer conditions and the slight drop in temps last week lulled me into not being as cautious as I should have been. I thought about using intervals but continuous running has been going so well that I figured it would be ok. The first 4 miles were fine. I took a brief walk to take my gel and was starting to struggle by the end of mile 5. The sun had come out and the temps shot up quickly. I walked pretty regularly through mile 6, ran some slightly longer stretches in miles 7 and 8 but still took some walk breaks. I really thought about just walking out the last 1.5 miles but ended up running some just to be done faster. It was exhausting. I learned my lesson too.
In the afternoon my kid and I went to see Dear Evan Hansen. I didn't know what it was about and while it was so good, the topic was heavy and hit close to home.
Then we met my husband for some tex-mex. Delicious!7 -
Morning all
Got in 7.21 (at 09"56)
@quilteryoyo @martaindale thank you ladies! 😌
@martaindale @SummerSkier thanks. Correct it's similar to SATs in the US... But it's not nationwide mandatory. It's a voluntary test taken at age 10 to get into a certain type of school at age 11.
(side note- school bandings here in UK are different to the US. Here, 11-16 are banded together. "Secondary school" - what you guys call "Middle school"; then 17 and 18 here are cut off in what is called "Sixth form" here / "High school" to you! So just Juniors and Seniors. Your 'Freshman' would still be stuck bullying 11 year olds).
99% of schools are either Private fee paying or Public. There is a small percent called "Grammar". These are basically Government -funded schools, so free, but have all the nice facilities and sports grounds like private schools. You just have to pass that 11+ test to get in. His older brother goes to one. So trying to get him into same school.
@martaindale Evan Hansen? Iisnt that a few years old now? You saw it at the movies? Tried watching that. Never got past the first 30 mins. Kept getting interrupted. Superficially couldn't get past how none of them looked like high school kids . The sister, kaitlyn dever is a really good actress. Will try again

@polskagirl01 SAVE THE PUMPKINS!!!
I'm sure there's some charity out there that could use all that for soup kitchen type stuff that would send a volunteer out to do all the yard work for you?
If not... It'd be a shame to see them rot!
You'd then left be hoping that the illegal immigrants in your area are willing to go Vegan for a little while and not eat the cats and dogs! 😂
JOKE!!
It's a JOKE Americans... Please don't cancel me 🫣

Good morning, Everyone! I realize that I forgot to post yesterday, but I did 1 mile yesterday, and 1.5 today. Have a great day!6
-
I'm not going to let the pumpkins rot (or be eaten by cats or... hmmm. I think I mixed that up 🐱😆). I have lots of uses for pumpkin and can bake it in pieces, then puree and freeze it for use later. Several friends have mentioned being willing to take some as well. I ended up not harvesting them just yet. I did manage (with help) to get them lifted just enough to get a tarp underneath, and turned them so that the underside gets some air and sunshine. Unfortunately, while I was doing that, the stem of the bigger pumpkin broke away from the vine. Those vines were on a decline anyway, so I cleaned them up, flipped the pumpkin completely over, and dragged it out to a sunnier spot. The second pumpkin is still attached to healthy vines, so I'm leaving it. Will keep an eye on them for now.
Foot and trampoline for scale 😄
It stopped raining, but may start again overnight. They had most of the flooded roads opened up yesterday before the race took place, and apparently didn't use all of the fire/police services they had planned, but the race apparently was a good adventure for the people who did it. I dropped the kids off at youth group and went to the forest for a short walk between storms. It was lovely. Today the sun is shining, but the water took out a bridge and the attached water line in Czechia that brings water to our city... so apparently they switched to backup water and told us to boil it if we choose to drink it. "Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink!"5 -
@AlphaHowls I’m more than happy to mail you my Fitbit for free. I simply don’t use it. I only use my Garmin and I have 2 of those.4

With all the changes MFP made, I have no idea how to add friend to message, so tried to send you a message.
1 -
@daria0919 that is very generous for you to offer your Fitbit to @AlphaHowls. I love how this group supports each other ❤️
@polskagirl01 glad you rescued / harvested your pumpkins and your neighbors can use them too.
Did an easy 3 TM mile recovery this morning. This was the very first time I have done a fasted run. Wasn't bad at all, but can't imagine doing that with any speed work or long run.

I just messaged you back. First one said it’s a versa 3 (I was incorrect) but 2nd message says it’s actually a versa 2 and works just fine with the google version of Fitbit - I just checked.
I just turned it on - here’s a photo:

Questions I have today. I want to look into this since Christmas is coming.
Garmin users
Can I turn off GPS? I have never found GSP to be accurate and I get agitated when the map shows me traipsing off through ditches, yards, houses, and general inaccessible areas. I find that going by stride is good enough and matches sanctioned races I have been in (albeit not accurate)
Example: the race I run in Hoptown, sanctioned, 13.1, but my tracker shows only 12.5 ish miles.
Do I have to also 'subscribe' in the app to get my data?
I only have interest in steps, miles, calories.
I like sleep details, heart rate and such, but not the most important to me.
Anyone know Garmin Forerunner 55?1 -
@martaindale I'm sorry to hear your run was a struggle on Sat too. You did great to get it done. Glad you enjoyed tex-mex later.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . Thanks for explaining the school situation. I hope he gets into the same school as his brother.
Nice going @shubox1 .
@polskagirl01 That is a huge pumpkin. I'm glad you are saving them. Also glad the race went well and that you were able to get out for a nice walk in the forest. I hope they get the water fixed soon.
Nice TM run @Scott6255 .
Great job with your streak @daria0919 . That is so sweet of you to send your old FitBit to @AlphaHowls .
I hope you two get the logistics all worked out.
@AlphaHowls I don't know anything about the Forerunner 55. I have a 745. You can get your data off of your watch, but if you want to have a record, you would need to get Garmin Connect. Well, the watch does have a "history." I just looked and it has 298 exercises saved. I don't know about turning off GPS. I like that function, so haven't tried to delete it. Mine is generally pretty accurate....have rarely had it show me running places I wasn't. My HR is pretty accurate too with just the wrist monitor. It tracked well when I had a stress test. I like Garmin, but they are a bigger watch than the fitbit.

I did a slower mile on the driveway today to make it a "true" rest day. I figured after yesterday's disastrous run that I may have just been doing too much lately and would take as close to a rest day as possible with still keeping my streak going.4 -
Good Evening Everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Tonight, I ran/walked 5 miles, which brings my mileage to 27.6 miles. This is over half of my mileage goal of 50 miles. During this month, I’m definitely focusing on consistency. I just wish I can get out of my comfortable bed and run in the morning since it’s cooler. It definitely helps when I am going to meet someone. Unfortunately, my co-worker stopped training for Monumental Half Marathon in November. So, I’m solo training. Oh well, at least I’m getting my mileage in. This Wednesday, though, I’m meeting a friend for 3 miles in the morning. See when I’m meeting someone, I hold myself accountable. But if I don’t, I’ll run/walk in the evening, which for me is a challenge. I’m going to try my best to get my mileage in the mornings. Fingers crossed 🤞🏾
Everyone, have a great rest of your night.5
