Great job, @SurferGirl1982 and @violetamethyst! Day 1 AF in the books! 🎉🥳🎊
AF - 10
A - 4
Got my tattoo finished last night. I’m going to let the redness die down just a little bit more before I post a picture. But, I am so thrilled with the results! Even better the artist didn’t charge me for the full session. 😁 Now, I can’t wait to get another! The ink-bug has bitten me again. I already know what I want, and it’s a small one that will probably take less than an hour to do.8 -
@SurferGirl1982 @violetamethyst Congrats on Day 1 AF!! So happy for you!6

Morning everyone!

Just hit 30 days AF and loving it. I have been tested several times and I find it very easy to say no now. I have figured out drinkers don't like nondrinkers because misery loves company, and I am not willing to be miserable with them and destroy my life that easily.
Cheers!13 -
WTG on your 30 days, @xbowhunter!! That's amazing!
@Surfergirl1982 and @violetamethyst, you've got this, ladies!! We're all rooting for you!

Just for today, make something else what you do...even if it's just some other beverage out of your favorite glass. That's what I did at first. I still don't have my something else to do. I need to work on that, for sure.
For me it's not just that it's a habit, it's really a part of my identity - the "I'm a drinker" or "I've always been a drinker" way of thinking. I have to work on changing how I actually want to identify myself along with a big change in habits.9 -
@Breathe57103 HAPPY BIRTHDAY!7

@xbowhunter Congrats on 30 days AF! I was wondering where you were on your streak?6
-
@SparkSpringtime69 I could have worded it the same way, "It's part of my identity". I need to work on my way of thinking also.
Starting Day 2 🙂

Going to a water park for two and a half days with grandkids tomorrow. There is also miniature golf and other kid activities on-site. We’re staying at the family lodge on-site which I’m sure will wear me out lol.
Today I went to CVS and walked by the alcohol aisle on my way to check out and had a split second thought that maybe I should bring some wine for my daughter and I. Nope I told myself I can live in the moment and will pass on the idea…..a win for me.
I’ll be back closer to the weekend - have a great
week everyone!8 -

I’ve been thinking about the “drinker identity” being discussed. I don’t think I’ve been identified as a drinker. Everyone knew/knows I like my wine, but I’m not sure it became my identity. I know I don’t identify as a drinker… hmmmm, maybe I’m wrong? Maybe they do identify me as a drinker. You know, I’ve never thought to ask. I was labeled a “mean drunk” by my husband, but I could never remember what happened so I have no way to know if that’s true. (As I’ve been more sober over these many months, I’ve noticed he’s been getting more and more dramatic and over exaggerates a lot as he’s gotten older. 🙄)
Maybe I’ll just identify as a shirt my husband bought me… I’m an f-bomb mom with tattoos, pretty eyes, and thick thighs! 🤣😉

I had a pretty tough day today. Everything from veterinarians, pet pharmacies, landscaping issues, and others issues. Everything is fine at home though. Today is my cat "Tinker's" 17th birthday. She's doing fine. It's still a bit difficult giving her her meds. But, getting better.
I bought a pint on the way home from the pharmacy and vets office (15 miles away). I don't feel guilty.
I just wanted to say that I may only be posting a few days a week. I'm definitely not giving up. I've just have been spending too much time on the computer. Part of my lifestyle change is to spend less time on screens and start getting my projects done.
One project I had that was stressing me out, I think I got solved today. I've planned to overseed my lawns this fall. But, there is some prep work that needs to be done first. I was having thoughts wondering if I could do it myself (it's fairly heavy-duty). I recently hired a guy to do my basic yard work and he's coming over next Tuesday to do the hard parts. It could be even completed next Tuesday.

Another day alcohol free. Since my husband passed, I have dated two men. The last one only lasted 2 months, but it was very intense. Ironically it ended the same day I committed to less alcohol. I've been sad this week and feeling a lot of the same anxiety that I felt following my husband's passing. I just finished a book tonight and on the last page it said "The biggest lesson is that I'm perfectly fine, exactly as I am, where I am, and I will never again look to another person to make me whole." That's exactly what I needed tonight!
Start day 10/11/24.

@xbowhunter how has it been 30 days already? That’s awesome!
Welcome and congrats to @violetamethyst , and congrats to you @SurferGirl1982 !!!
I went over my goal the day of the football name, but was AF on Sunday, so it evened out- averaged two drinks per day, not bad for a weekend. Monday only one, but tonight I had two, and regret the 2nd glass. Onward to Wednesday. I do see my daily averages coming down, so that’s great news for me!9 -

Good lord, did I have an eye opening moment today. We have the one bank account that we live off of, and our bank sends monthly snapshots, and a year to date snapshot of what you have spent where.
What we have spent at the liquor store in the past 12 months would have paid for us both to go to Europe on holiday for multiple weeks. I'm not exaggerating. And that's just our main liquor store, it's not the incidental ones we have stopped at along the way, the nights out, the copious money we have spent at wineries etc etc.
I'm stunned and horrified.
Unsurprisingly, our spending at that store has gone down by 40% since I started only drinking on occasions, and now it's going to go down even more because my partner has joined me.
That's going OK so far, bit of withdrawals, and the weekend will be a challenge I think. But it was a hell of a scare and an eye opener.
But yeah... I cannot believe the amount of money we have drunk in a year. I'm mortified.
@SurferGirl1982 Well done on the day, and good for you for not beating yourself up! Every single day is an improvement.
Thank you all for the wishes for the other half x10 -

I’m glad your partner has joined you! I’ll be praying for continued success for the both of you.
I agree, the financial impact of my drinking was a huge eye opener! I couldn’t believe how much money we could save or put towards other things if I just quit drinking or drank less. $500 per month easy! Over a year that was enough to, like you said, pay for a vacation for my family which is something we need in our lives.
Now… to convince my husband that beer is NOT a staple, and we need to save that money that used to go to wine to pay for that vacation. 😉😁8 -
@NonnieDoiron the tattoo is absolute gorgeous!
@SurferGirl1982 I'm glad to hear you don't feel guilty, no reason to beat yourself up. I hope the yard guy works out for you.
@womona Your moderation is going well - sounds like you're proud of yourself, and you should be.6 -

Yes, this!
These are great examples of what I have to work on - identify with the positive, fun, amazing things that I do and am!! Thank you for the inspiration.7 -

Whew, finally got another AF day in for October, after 10 straight days of drinking. I'm going to work on getting a long streak of AF days in over the next couple of weeks.
@NonnieDoiron and @Alatariel75 The money-OMG! I've added it up on occasion and I tend to spend between 250 and 350 a month, and my SO doesn't drink, it's all me !
10 -
Regarding money savings, after 24 days AF, my nomo app says I’ve save $677 and saved 47 hours of time not drinkng.
In a book I’m reading, the author says a heavy drinker spends about $100,000
Over his or her lifetime on alcohol. Not sure if that’s accurate but possibly.7 -
@Breathe57103 I'm sorry your're feeling down and sorry for your loss. YOU are enough :hugs:
@NonnieDoiron LOVE the tattoo!! Very nice work!
@SurferGirl1982 Glad you're not down on yourself. Try, try again! Good luck with your projects
@womona Thank you for the kind words. We're hoping FEMA comes through for my dad's roof. His mobile home is too old for insurance
@Alatariel75 Praying for continued success for your husband...and for you
Have a great day, everyone!
