Carol-glad to hear your husband is home. Hope healing continues.
Heather-hope John's pension issue gets worked out-less money is never good.
Debbie-good luck with MIL decision. While she may like it at home, bottom line is she will get better care in a facility most likely. While it is costly, it sounds like she has the money and then the government will kick in.
KJ-glad you have had a chance to unwind and relax before jumping[ back to the kids!
Lisa-sad to hear about your daughter's problems.
Kylia-glad to hear weather has helped business. Right now we are looking at 3-6inches of snow over here-but we will actually know when it gets here. Plan to meet Step son and family for lunch tomorrow at Chuy's in Beavercreek-weather shouldn't be an issue then.
Getting things prepped for worst scenario-getting everything charged, checking batteries, etc. Don't have a generator but will make sure heated vest, gloves and hand warmers charged! Reviewed weather notification process with staff in the event we close (timing is everything). It is more common for us to have a couple of hours delay so lots and road can be cleared.
Off to put roast in crock pot. Went to store this am early to get stuff for chili-may make a little corn bread to go with it-especially if I burn some calories this week shoveling snow!
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio6 -
My new dress fits! Just. It's quite stretchy. My friend G and I are going to go out for lunch at the end of the month in our matching dresses. Twinsies! Of course, I'm always hoping I will slim down a bit..........
John took down the Christmas tree, but he needs my help to get it into the garage loft. I'm debating whether to change the batteries in the candles in the fireplace and keep them out. 9 AA batteries though! I think I will.
I've put away my Christmas red amaryllis and got out snowdrops and white hellebores. I can just see some daffodil spikes poking up in the front garden and there is one brave one in my pot. We've had a cold flash, but it's getting milder down here in the south. Lots of snow elsewhere in the country.
I had to rise my towels in the washing machine again, as I left them in overnight. Now I've forgotten to hang them up. Must do it when I go downstairs.
Love you all. Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -

Tracey -Sorry to hear the freezer door is wide open in your area and your car is cranky. Michaela is so cute with her tiara. Those young deaths of your cousin's parents are something. I had shirttail relatives where the females in the family usually passed away in their 40's and 50's from heart attacks. These days their lives could probably have been extended with stents and statins.
Carol - glad your DH is home, hope he's feeling brighter and more energetic with better circulation now.
Ginny - is your foot OK now?
Kylia - I wondered if the snow blower sales would be through the roof, looks like folks are taking this arctic weather seriously. Also I got a bit of learning in yesterday with heart monitor and computer tweaking (below).
Heather - cute dress, you and G will be fetching twins. Hope John can get his pension stuff straightened out.
Something might be fishy with my social security, last I checked they were taking out $35 for Aetna Part D, but Medicare verified no premium for 2025 since I switched to Wellcare. Hope once the deposit hits the bank it will be OK. T's husband was on the phone with the IRS for FOUR hours yesterday. He got a notice of missed payments and huge penalty mounting up. Finally, the IRS found proof of the payments and will hopefully credit them right and erase the penalty. I wonder if the IRS computer got hacked or if the person who at the IRS who deposited the checks was crediting them to the wrong account. Luckily, T mailed the payments certified and kept copies of the cancelled checks. Unnerving to say the least.
Rita - good news about your son! Off to a great start.
Barbie - Annie must be related to my Rosie as far as the barking and guarding the house. Our pups are good security, that's for sure. Rosie still barks when I leave her alone in the house for a few hours, but I throw some cheerios on the floor in the living room to keep her busy, lol. She is not destructive at all. Hopefully with Bessie still there for company, Annie will do very well when you leave them alone for longer periods of time.
Yesterday morning I went to the hospital and got my heart monitor. The young gal who put it on me raced through everything. As she was quickly explaining, I told her I didn't understand a few things and she just shrugged her shoulders and moved on then left the room. I wonder if she was new at this or under a time constraint. When I got home, I checked with my good buddy YouTube and found the info I needed. I can see older folks who don't have computers having a hard time. The only thing I have to get used to is carrying around a cellphone. All is good today. I remove the adhesive patch holding the sensor on Tues or Weds to recharge it, hopefully the adhesive will let loose without taking skin. .
Busy the rest of the day yesterday getting laptops up to snuff, files transported, more things backed up.
Watched a Zoe podcast this morning, good reminders to kick off the new year with healthy eating. Tim Spector and Sarah Berry, who always provides research findings. For example, even a 14 hour fast has huge benefits, which is good news for folks who can't do a 16 hour or greater fast.

So true Beth... I hadn't actually cried for her until then. When she passed in May it didn't bother me much as I'd lost her long before that. Christmas hit me hard. Thanks.
Hi Lanette! I do still work for Lakeville Schools, but I'm back in a building and don't get to look at my beautiful back yard during the day anymore... I still have my office/creative space at our kitchen table though so that is still my view in the morning and afternoon.
OH, that freezing rain is nothing to mess with Lisa, no matter where it is! We don't like it here in MN either!
Not doing much today but playing with paper.
I'll mention it now, for those that don't remember, my passion is making greeting cards so for anyone who would like to get one for your birthday, please message me your name, address and birthdate and I'll add you to my list. (even international) It's just what I do. A smile in an envelope.

Good afternoon all! Happy Saturday! I got out early and got my shopping, and other errands done and was home before noon. I put a roast in the crock pot to make birria; so dinner is pretty much made. Groceries put away, broth for a soup simmering away on the stove, hubby ran the dishwasher while I was shopping, so I got clean dishes put away, and just too care of a load of clothes in the dryer. Just ate a bit of cucumber salad and thought I would hop on here and see what is up with all of you!
Lisa- I don't know if I have said this, but my DOS is actually my stepson. When he was young his mom had custody of him and DH and I only got to see him Saturdays noon to Sundays 6pm and then from 4pm- 8pm Wednesdays. She still fought us tooth and nail for those times. We would go to pick him up and she would have him out somewhere. Or she would let him go to friends, cousins, etc. She was a pill. She also drank a lot and still does. I guess I just want to say, the way parents act might get past the kids when they are young; but kids remember. They remember who lies, who tries hard to spend time with them, who they can count on. Our relationship with DOS as an adult is so close. And his relationship with his mom is a mess. Kids remember.
Michele - I order through Rowe Casa Organics. The Elderberry Immune Support. Last year, one of my childcare families bought me 6 bottles from September through February (the better part of flu season). I stayed pretty healthy. Salt water/ saline has saved the day many times for me. Good luck!

Today was two tacos instead, with all the trimmings. I even put some leftover sweet corn in a pan (rinsed off all the butter) and fried them a bit in a bit of oil and taco seasoning. I put that on my plate with some refried creamy beans, some guacamole, and sour cream just like the restaurants do. Then put my two tacos with sour cream, guacamole, tomatoes, black olives, lettuce and hot sauce. That's called a feast!
I am now eating 4 fig Newton's with coffee with creamer and Truvia sweetener. I will close my eating window soon and call it a day.👍🏼💖
There's a lot of people sick that I know, friends and family, its no lie there's a lot of the flu, RSV going around. I got my vaccine against getting or transmitting RSV. It mimics COVID in that its a respiratory ailment. My friend on the island here has had RSV since the day after Christmas.😥
Hugs all round!

Hello,
Well we sold a couple more snowblowers! Yay! You have to love the customers that come in an hour before closing because their snowblower won't start on a Saturday with storm coming tomorrow and want us to use our magic to get it started now...... the last customer bought it elsewhere 3 years ago, has had gas in it since then, and wanted is to start it after he had been trying. I told him we had no magic to cause it to start for us if it wouldn't start for him. He said he figured the mechanics did. My response was no, their magic meant taking apart the carburetor, cleaning it, and putting it back together. He said it should be warranty and he needed it now. I politely and calmly informed him that old fuel is not warranty and if he wished to leave it we would do our best to get it to him early next week. His response was he needed it now. I said sorry we are out of magic today. It isn't like they haven't been forecasting this for a week...SMH.
Tried to cross stitch when got home, but kittens wanted to play. Switched to coloring, they tried eating the pencils. After a few minutes and some extra cuddles they finally took a nap. I just kept coloring. They woke up as I was getting ready to head out to pick up DH. More cuddles after dinner.
Grateful for the sunshine today. I sat in it in the house until it disappeared. It felt good.
Cookies are gone! Now if the candies would dissappear......without me eating them!
Stay safe!
Hugs!

KJ - Thank you. I've assured my daughter that the kids do see and they know the truth. She's too stressed to hear much right now.
My own swirling stress was much relieved by being able to vent with a few truths, cuss words and tears to a good friend this morning. I'm lucky to have people I can lean on that way, and grateful for them, and y'all.
Came back home from a quick trip to Best Buy and collapsed in another three-hour nap. I think the new thyroid medication is beginning to catch me up on my rest, or something.
More tomorrow, fingers crossed the storm misses us, we're right along the edge of the projected path.
Later, my lovelies...

Good news on the walker front: Mama remembered where she had seen the walker. It was not the shed. Lol.
Bad news: I have to make another trip to her house to get it, when I was just there Wednesday. Some of you mentioned renting one. That is an option, but I didn’t want to go to the trouble if I didn’t end up needing it, when there should have been a free or very low cost option.
I finally sat down to do my filing. I announced to Dave that I was going to give it an hour. 2 hours later, he kicks me out so he can have the desk. I’m not finished. But I made so much progress. I should be able to finish in less than an hour when I get back to it.
I discovered that my printer won’t scan to my computer. I didn’t have time to troubleshoot it.
I have logged my food every day this year. My very bad habit has been to skip it if I didn’t want to face the total. I’m working on that.

Uck, so sorry you guys had it. Had you gotten the vaccine for RSV, just wondering if it actually stops a person from getting it. My friend says she "thinks" she has RSV but hasn't consulted any medical doctors, she just moans to me. Its quite frustrating because she generally just takes poor care of herself, and she's a year younger than me! Its a friend that lives nearby, but we haven't socialized for 7 months now. Its one of those things, I ask her if she wants to do something, go out to lunch etc, and she says sure, but that's as far as it goes. Grr.

We have not had the vaccine. Probably in April/May when we get the flu shot and covid booster, my husband will get the RSV vaccine. I am not eligible - too young.

Vince said Jess said she was going to be here today. Not sure when. Well, I made a chicken bacon pasta salad and if she doesn’t come, we can have it (I should say Vince will have it, I don’t care for Ranch) Update: she'll come tomorrow. Then she'll drive back tomorrow. To me, that's a lot of driving
Made cupcakes for Vince (and Jess can take some home if she gets here) then went to WalMart for the things for the chicken bacon pasta salad, baked chicken for us, made the salad, now I’ll make crab cakes for us
Happy Birthday Michaela!

Heather - I hope your taxes went well today.
I needed 51 AA batteries to operate everything I had lit at Christmas. I bought a pack of Duracell on sale as my first set, I don’t think they lasted very well. The second set I bought was Walmart brand and they’re still going.
We have at least another 3 months before we might see any green poking through.
Lisa - I remember when Kelsey left him while he was overseas. What a miserable excuse for a man he is.
I haven’t used Zoom for a while now, it’s all Teams these days. I prefer Zoom though I think.
Machka - I need to sort our bedroom out as well. We have way too much in there
Kylia - that is quite the sales day! You deserve a bonus.
What is that saying, something to the effect of:
lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine. That’s what your customer reminded me of, out of magic is much kinder though.
Ginny - I think I need to go buy a roast now. It’s my favourite meal and I rarely have it.
Hope all of you that have snow in the forecast weather it well.
Lanette - I hope nothing is wrong with your SS.
My cousin that passed had a heart attack, one of my older cousins, her Aunt believes it was brought on by overexerting herself in heat. Who knows.
I find in too many instances people aren’t aware of how to speak to those needing better directions when it comes to healthcare. One of my biggest pet peeves is medications.
My Dad when he was so sick was never told he should stop taking his BP meds, or even should be checking his BP again. He ended up having a fall because his BP was too low.
Rodger’s dad was never told to adjust his insulin when he couldn’t swallow to eat. He just kept doing what he had done for years, even though an ambulance was at the house 10 times and he was taken to the hospital twice because his sugars had dropped to low.
Kelly - it’s so nice to see you posting regularly.
Rebecca - we have a lot going around here too. Thankfully people aren’t visiting the home when they’re sick and our sweet residents were allowed to have a full Christmas this year!
Pip - I could never jump rope in here, even if I could still do it, I haven’t tried in years except for with cheap ropes and they just suck.
Allie - Delia’s cheeks sure are kissable!
Vicki - I hope the storm doesn’t hinder you getting your DH to the doctor.
I had a great day with Kaitlyn. She is starting a junk journal, it’s right up her alley.
It will be good for me too because I can give her some scraps of mine.
On the home front:
I woke up this morning and it was cold in here. I asked Rodger if the furnace had been on and he said yes, but it was having to get really cold in here before it kicked in. I looked at the thermostat and the temperature was only 18C.
I turned a little heater on, and decided that there had to be something wrong with the thermostat not registering to the furnace. Rodger told me that he didn’t think so. It’s just too cold out.
I didn’t think that was it so went and checked the breakers. It didn’t look like any had tripped but I switched them all back and forth. I don’t know if it was coincidence or not but the furnace started. It didn’t reach the set temperature and stopped and shut off again. I had to leave, but assumed that it would start again after a break.
I got home from my crop 8 hours later and it’s cold in the house.
Again, Rodger says the furnace is going but not getting up to the set temperature. We had supper and I did some googling, it said that one reason this can happen is because the filters are not allowing air to flow through. I didn’t think that was the problem because it hasn’t been 3 months, but decided to look. When I took the cover off I noticed the trouble light was flashing. It says right on it what’s wrong. It’s a switch stuck closed, I’ve put a call in to the company we use at the manor, I’m hoping we can get through until Monday so it’s not an emergency call out. Rodger had bought me a heater for work that I hadn’t taken yet, so I gave it going now in the kitchen. Also, I left the cover off the furnace completely and the furnace seems to be working more. I can hear it clicking as it tries to kick in at other times.
This will be an expense we don’t need, but not much we can do about it.
I also got my car going today. I used the old method of pumping the gas.
I’m tired of having to figure everything out and I have no one to blame but myself.
My parents were really a traditional male/female role household. If something went wrong mom would even call my Dad to come home from work to deal with it if it was something urgent. If Dad couldn’t her Father lived right across from us and when my brother was about 12 he started fixing things. I never wanted to be one of those women that had to depend on a man, I think I took it way too far and Rodger just let me. Why should he have to think about any of it when he knows I will.
Well again I’ve rambled on.
All of you in the path of the storm stay safe and warm.
We’re supposed to get up to a balmy -15 tomorrow, it will feel better though as the wind is dying down.
I guess I should head to bed.

I tend to go with less than the recommended dose of vitamins and minerals for a few reasons, including:
1) I eat a fairly well-rounded diet which provides me with a portion of my vitamins and minerals.
2) I know that vitamins and minerals have side effects.
3) I know that vitamins and minerals can interact with medications and sometimes those interactions are negative.
I've cut way back on what I take in general.
But, mainly through apathy/laziness, I tend to take some vitamins for about a week ... then don't for the next week or so, then remember and take some for about a week, etc.
I wish taking vitamins would solve a whole bunch of problems! I wish they'd give me energy, improve my memory and focus, take away various aches and pains, etc. etc. but they don't.
That said, I do have a bottle of B6 at work which I try occasionally for nausea ... of all the things people might take B6 for, easing nausea is one that might possibly actually work.

Tracey, dear heart - There's an absolutely invisible line between being so competent that our husbands believe we need no help at all, and so incompetent they think were idiots, and I trip over it a lot myself. My only advice would be to say to him what you're saying to us, that you really want and need help with things like TV surround lights and heaters.
Unfortunately, not sure saying it will change his behavior, especially if you made it clear early on in your marriage that you didn't want his help. He has to get over decades of believing you'll bite his head off if he does try to help. Corey has gotten seriously gun-shy over a dirty look! I will note however, that if you DON'T tell him, he will never change, because why would he? He thinks he knows what you really want, and that he's making you happy by not helping. It's weirdly charming, while being utterly annoying. 😜
Up way too early this morning, but two of the last three days I've had long naps in the daytime, so it's understandable. Might just slide my happy behind right back to bed.
Later, babies,
Love,
Lisa in AR6
