Time for self-care!

Hello MFP friend,

I like to take care of others, but easily forget about my own needs. Time to change some of these habits! I used MFP before and remember it as a nice community and looking for people to connect with, as I deleted my account in the past and created a new one today.

If you like to encouraging each other, to 'celebrate' any small successes together (without any obligations of course), maybe learn from each other and to have fun, then I would like to invite you to connect with me!

During my journey I woule like to loose weight, but also get my routine back and prepare myself again for long walks.

Looking forward meeting you!

I often run into the same issue. Taking care of others fills my cup but at some point I end up putting myself on the back burner.
It's the little things that make it all worth while and I have to remind myself of that everyday.

I honestly found my long term success when I got so burnt out caring for others that for my own sanity, I pulled it all back in and started putting myself first. I started walking, moving, cooking food that I knew was good for me, and really being mindful of allowing myself to look after myself. It's also made me better at looking after others.

One thing I'd say: Look at the long term, and consider what I call the "airplane rule". We have to put on our own oxygen mask before assisting others.

Same deal, we're going to be much better able to support others in our lives if we're healthy and energetic, so an investment of time and effort in ourselves is a benefit to them, too.

I'm not saying, however, that our own needs should all be sacrificed on the altar of others' needs in all ways. But it's IMO unquestionably true that if I'm unwell, unfit, etc., I will come to be a burden to those around me, and before that I'll be less able to help them in various ways.

In addition, by investing in our own health, we may be a better model and example for some of the people - maybe especially younger people? - in our orbit.

Taking care of ourselves is not only important, essential . . . it's a socially responsible thing to do, IMO.

    Best wishes!
