FEBRUARY 2025 Monthly Running Challenge
WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.
This is a continuation from the DECEMBER 2024 Monthly Running Challenge which can be found at:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10929718/january-2025-monthly-running-challenge/p1?new=1
Anyone can join in, new and old, and if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until FEBRUARY 1, 2025 to start logging your runs!
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:

After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the bookmark in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.comandcreate your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else’s Chapter 20.
“I often hear someone say I’m not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.” – Bart Yasso
“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” – Confucius
"We all know that if you run, you are pretty much choosing a life of success because of it.” – Deena Kastor
“Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts.” – Steve Prefontaine
“Get going … walk if you have to, but finish the damned race.” – Ron Hill
"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." - John Bingham
You may see some phrases / words that are unique to our little group when it comes to describing some of our runs. It is a mash-up of words that seem to best describe the way the run felt that day. Here are some examples. Feel free to come up with your own to add to the dictionary 😃
'sleasy' - Slow and Easy
'sneasy' - Slow Not Easy
'scrappy' - mix of Slow and Crappy
'wun' - mix of Walking and Running
'wog' - mix of Walking and Jogging

Upping slightly to 130 miles for Feb.
Conscious there's three days less too, and I'll probably take a rest day!6 -
Hi everyone!
My goal is 300km and 2x week weight training. I know February has fewer days, but I’ve got to get the long runs in - and, I need more strength training.8 -
Hello everyone, Keeping my same goal as last month = Not to be lazy and get in at least one treadmill session per day in Feb. I'm not ready to start estimating milage yet. I am also starting the Couch to 5K workout program on Feb 3 and have sticking to that training as a secondary goal.9
-
Targetting 200km for the month and 3000m in total elevation gain and 3 times/week strength. I'm seriously missing this last bit.
Forces me to go climb some of the teeny hills here.7 -
Thank you for setting up February @AlphaHowls!!
My February goals are:
30 miles run/walk
90 miles total run/walk/steps6 -
Going to shoot for 200 miles9
-
I’m going to aim for 60 miles & 170 miles on my bike & yoga every day7
-
I'll make my goal 100 miles. I'll have 2 HM this month, one in a couple of days and RnR LV toward the end of the month, and I don't have a plan for the time in between just yet.8

Thanks for setting us up @AlphaHowls . With fewer days in the month, I'm going to stick to an 80 mile goal. If I go over again, like in Jan, I'll reevaluate for March. So 80 miles total of running and fast walking for the month. Also, since I paid for it already, I'll be doing (hopefully) 3 strength training sessions per week.5
-
Thanks for setting us up @AlphaHowls! I'm in for 125 miles.5
-
My goals for the month are to run 25km a week and do Pilates at least twice a week. I am also aiming to skip (jump rope) for 15 minutes on Pilates days. Oh, and get back into my daily yoga habit.7
-
Off to a good start with a very hot and difficult 5k. I blamed the struggle on my drop in fitness until a friend pointed out that I did run at 11am in the height of summer on a humid and still day.
Also did 15 mins of yoga and was under my calories goal.
Three out of three. One down, 27 days to go.7 -
Morning all
Got in 5.0M at 10"208 -
Good Morning! Just joined this community. My February goal is to run 45 miles. That is almost double of what I ran in January. Prepping for my fist half in April. The OKC run to remember.9

01/02 2.85 miles
Total 2.85 / 60 miles
The weather yesterday was lovely but today can only be described as Baltic.5 -
01.02 3.2km 25min 7:52/km - 10x 20/40s intervals
3.22km
Found this thread, checking in. Today the weather was cold, no clouds, no wind. Perfect. Running went really well today. Realized something related to cold that I need to test next time.5 -
Perfect running weather to start off the month. Feb goal of 100 miles. Keep the stress out of things.
Got my new shoes yesterday and did not want to do a long run in them to begin so I decided to do a mile after I finished my normal run. However I ended up doing a 10 miler so I really did not think it would be fair to lace them on after that and I was running out of time. I will try them out tomorrow. Altho I did lace them on to make sure they fit ok which they do.
Was also really happy with some of the later splits on this run. I think the farther I go the more warmed up my muscles get allowing me to stride further.
and of course shoe bling! 😎 what's interesting is that I thought these would be a lot LIGHTER than they are but they weigh in at a hefty 9.5 oz compared to 4.5 oz on my Nike rockets. Maybe that means they will last longer before the "cush" breaks down? 🤷♀️
Welcome to our new folks and our regulars to Feb... Where is Scott? I hope his knee did not get bad. 😳

1 16.17 miles, Crazy Laps!
Let it begin!7 -
Hi folks,
I'm John, from Toronto, Canada, and I'm in for 145K (90 miles to my US folks).
I came across the Jan thread part way through but thought I'd wait to join with the new month.
I only started running about 5 yrs ago, after getting clearance from my neurosurgeon, which was 'sure, if you want too' 😄 Ringin endorsement....
I used to be 110lbs heavier and running seemed like a good way to keep that old version of me at bay. Never expected to enjoy it as much as I have.

Setting my goal at 90 miles for this month since it is shorter and I’m traveling to Florida for work for a week. This morning I ran 10 miles. We got a lot of rain yesterday. When I came home last night, the creek near me was level with the road and I was afraid it would be in it this morning but it wasn’t. We did have to re-route our 10 mile route though due to water that looked pretty deep being across the green belt trail.
Welcome @John772016 and @KimMK!
Those are some funky looking shoes @SummerSkier!
I’ve been wondering about @Scott6255 and his knee also. Hope it is better.8 -
Joining at 2.5 miles per day. 70 miles minimum for February!9
-
Feb total 6.5/100 miles
YTD: 123.4 miles
We did the 10k this morning. This course was maybe my favorite course I've had for a Disney race. My costume was a bellhop from the tower of terror. I got a lot of shout-outs from the crowd so that was fun!9 -

@SummerSkier WOW! Nice speedy long run to start out the month. Love those shoes. I hope they become your new rocket shoes.
That's a lot of crazy laps @AlphaHowls !
Welcome @John772016 . If you lurked on last months thread, you know that this is a very friendly and supportive group. I, too, find that running is a great way to keep the weight at bay. Love how enthusiastic your neurosurgeon was about running.
Great 10 miles @Teresa502 . Glad the creek didn't overflow the road.
Welcome @Kaljo2002 .
@martaindale You always look so cute at the Disney races. Glad you enjoyed the course.
You're doing great @daria0919 .
