My sleep is better than it was...I have less leg cramping now than I did. I place a small piece of surgical tape across the middle of my lips to encourage me to breathe through my nose. I use breathe right strips to open my breathing through my nose. In losing the thirty pounds my double chin is almost gone. The biggest result from doing this was getting my blood pressure under control without medication. I was 140/85-90. Now I am 120 or lower on top and less than 80 on the bottom. I just feel better too! Breathing through your nose gives your body more nitric oxide which in turn is beneficial to your vascular system (thus fewer leg cramps and lower blood pressure)

I was not able to use the surgical tape until I got rid of my chronic sinus infection. It was changing my diet that helped me get rid of that infection.

I still am on my higher plant based diet. I do eat some meat, dairy is plain yogurt(good quality and or home made) or good quality cheese. Fermented foods like Kombucha, Kimchi, Sauerkraut, Occasional pickle. Little to no grain (NO wheat) If I take a vitamin I do so with food. I just learned some vitamins need the other phytonutrients from food to be effective and/or not toxic. Too much of some vitamins is toxic.

I just read the vitamin craze started with Linus Pauling, a Noble Prize winner. He got fixated on Vitamin C being the cure for many ills. He and his wife took mega doses. His wife died of stomach cancer which they believed the massive amounts of Vit. C contributed to it.

I do not count calories. I count the veggies, herbs, and spices on my plate. It is very high fiber. If one decides to go the high fiber route take it slow and slowly add fermented foods to help better digest the fiber.

I am currently 150-158 pounds on a 5'7" frame. Little to no joint or other pain in my body. Weight has been steady for six months.

I no longer miss the cakes, cookies, pasta made with wheat, deep fat fried food, and other highly processed food. I do not feel deprived in the way I eat. The side effect of feeling so good and other signs of health outweighs any desire to go back to old habits.

    Did a quick test on
    www.thesmartbmicalculator.com/
and I am in the optimum range. :p I would gain no health benefits, at 75, from losing weight, so it would just be a vanity project. :p I always have thought that a little extra flesh looks better as we age. :p
I still would like to slim down a little though, without going on a 'diet'. It's my waist that is the problem, I can live with the rest of me. Apart from eating grains, mostly wholegrain, my diet is very like Margaret's. I rarely snack between meals and we eat masses of vegetables and fruit. I call it the French diet. I'm hoping that upping my exercise, as my hips strengthen, will help.

I recommended that my friend G visited the tile museum in Funchal today, as the weather has turned a bit. (Madeira is Portuguese, and Portugal is famous for tiles) She said she LOVED it. :D Just for fun I looked up the hotel we stayed st 21 years ago. It looked exactly the same! I found the same room.with a terrace onto the beautiful sub tropical gardens and a short stroll to the heated seawater pool. Not expensive at all. Nostalgia trip.

Right now, I can smell the Moussaka John is making! :o:o:o It will last us two days, so we could have it again on Sunday, or freeze it.

    Beth Yeah for good News!

I try to eat in a window too 7-5. I eat two to three meals and don't snack in-between. Because my blood sugar is now more even I don't get cravings or feel the need to eat between meals. No eating in the evenings for me anymore just water if anything!

Oh heck - I hate it that y'all are getting it, but can y'all please keep winter on the upper West Coast? We're hovering at freezing this morning, a little rain and warmer temperatures tomorrow and Sunday - then it drops to Tuesday predicting snow all day, and then we won't get ABOVE freezing until next weekend. Yuck. You'd think it was February or something! 😉😑😂

    Egg is not amused... 🐈‍⬛👀😑

    On my Facebook today.

I did #17 today because I thought some people might be feeling left out. Texted my SIL , L, G, and my son. So glad I did.
L is having a Valentine's feast by herself today next to her partner's photo/shrine. He died a couple of years ago of a sudden aneurysm in front of her. She said 'It's better to have loved and lost .....' etc. Well done her. <3
All the above is good advice, methinks.

Hi, my name is Rebecca. I just started using the app a couple days ago and i love it so far! This is my first time to join a discussion... I'm 53 years old, feel like I'm going on 80! I have about 50 lbs i want to lose and i can't wait for the progress to start! I'm actually on the carnivore diet and i love it! I strayed from it around Thanksgiving. That's why I'm using the app cuz this time around seems harder to lose grrrr... Anyway nice to meet everyone!

Hello Rebecca from TX from Rebecca from Whidbey Island WA!
I'm 62 yrs old and during this winter I feel every bit of my age. Heat really is a thing when you get older! We don't have a lot of snow here, kind of a micro climate situation here in Puget Sound. So it can be awful on the mainland and just mild here. But summer with heat of temps in the upper 70's lasts maybe a week or two in June/July. Other than that its between 50-60's. I need a tropical island!
I have about 50 lbs to shed as well, but I am waiting for age to kind of do it. I am reasonable healthy for an obese woman, and I am ok with that. I teeter on the fence with trying to be slimmer so I just move better, and living in gastronomy bliss. I am married, so feeding him good food is my goal. For many years when he was on the liver transplant list waiting, food to him tasted weird, so its kind of nice to fix a meal for him and he eats like a starved puppy. He got his semi new liver in 2014 and he will outlive us all.😁
Have a great weekend. Remember "A good day is doing one good thing tied to another, and soon you have real progress"

Carol in Georgia, so sorry to hear of your son's issue and impending surgery. Prayers for a smooth recovery. With my sons Crohn's which have similar markers as diverticulitis, I hope he is handling life ok.
Same here in fixing only a dinner for husband. Breakfast and lunch he's on his own. There are things he's likes to prepare too.
    Hugs friend!

    Hello everyone;
I tried to post on Wednesday but gave up after all I typed disappeared. I saw my therapist on Tuesday, and he encouraged me to participate in the 5K. I will see if I can work on Thursday instead of Saturday. I have been working out, and I love it. We even talked about hiring a CPA. I told him that I would ask my friends when we got together. I also talked about my fear of dementia. I talked about what I learned from you all. I aid that I have not been to a gathering lately. So, he encouraged me to get them all together. We set a date for the 25th of this month. I did look into a CPA and read reviews, and one review was discouraging. One lady posted that she was trying to talk to one guy in the firm, and he suggested he was too high up to work with her. She was disappointed because she didn't disclose the amount of money she was dealing with. Needless to say, I crossed that firm off of my list. I went to the weight loss doctor and discovered I was down four more pounds. Yay, this is so encouraging. I have had some headaches again, even now as I am typing this. I took Excedrin for migraine, but I may need to put an ice pack on for the stabbing eye pain. I'm ignoring my stiff knee and sore hip. I did yoga on Monday, and it was so relaxing and pleasing. I love doing step aerobics because it makes me sweat and feel empowered.

Cindy from Florida, I didn't get to welcome you, but I am so happy you are part of our tribe. I have been battling weight all of my life. As a figure skater, I tried to get below 100 pounds, but at 110, I could do effectively sit spins and jumps higher. I'm 5'3', and in high school, my band teacher wanted me to lose weight as a majorette. I weighed 137 then. I would love to be 110 or 137. It ties into my mom bothering me about my weight. She was only happy when I lost weight. I weighed more because I wasn't skating anymore. I had PCOS, so I had huge breasts. I wore a size seven pants and a 2x top. I am in a P cup. So, my mom wanted me to have a reduction. I was under the knife at 21. Then, I was in an abusive relationship. So I ate about it. The next thing I knew, I was over 200 pounds. So I did Weight Watchers, joined Jenny Craig, and lost 75 pounds. Then, I attracted many men, but my boyfriend said, "Wow, I don't have 75 pounds to lose." After ending the relationship, I moved to Chicago and was tempted to return. I didn't like that I was attracting many men, for they made me feel uncomfortable. I like it when I am overlooked. My therapist pointed out that being sexually abused by my uncle at 7 to 11 years of age may be the reason. I continue to feel that way. DH knows that is my trigger. When I met him, he was friendly and not weird.
Lanette, thank you for the information on nutrition for the mind. I took the test, but I think I hit a computer glitch.

Tracey, I am so glad your MIL is home. Does your MIL have AFIB? I would be anxious, too. I know my dad was. Go d vibes sent her way.

Terri, you motivate me to continue learning. I'm still deciding whether to get my MSN and become an FNP.

Lisa, you should write a book. "The Many Lives of Lisa" is a nice title.

Vicki, have you ever considered starting your own business using your skills? Just a thought. I'm glad DH is working again.

Rori, I look forward to your next adventure.

    Michelle, have fun in Florida.

Barbara, thank you for the advice on looking into a CPA.

Barbie, I am learning from you. If and when my mom passes, I need to find a funeral home here. I need to have everything organized before I move. I'll be in town monthly for doctor visits and to check on her. I often wonder what I would do with her ashes. Perhaps I will take them to California and spread them at the beach in Santa Monica. I want to be cremated as well, and I found a beautiful ornament to store them in. I don't know if it was Lanette or Carol who has the book, "F#%$ I Am Dead, Now What." I purchased a book like that for my mom, and next, I will work on mine. I have planned funerals before, and my family spent too much money on them.

Rebecca, I hope all is well with you and your boys.

Heather, it sounds like you have a fun place to be.

Allie, I love the pictures of S-Miles and the gang; they are too precious. Poor Delia has to deal with sore gums.

Pip and Machka, keep up the good work.

I will chat again next week. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

    Xo,

    Mo in Mississippi

Thanks for asking, yep things are well. My middle sons kids (aged 1 yr, and 5 yrs) have gotten better with their bout of RSV, and youngest had pneumonia as well. Poor kiddos.😥. Then daughter in law got sick, and probably son is next in line. I family that loves together gets sick together.
My eldest is a bit off the grid, just working hard with his squadron in Iwakuni Japan. Not a moment to breathe and connect home here. He will soon enough though. My youngest is still in wait mode in Yokosuka. Been in wait mode since he officially signed off from his ship in November. Its hard on him I can see, but I have been video chatting with him every 2 weeks and he seems upbeat.

Rebecca ~ Love reading about the yummy things you prepare to eat. I too have always leaned toward preparing food that my DH likes. I am trying to change that thinking as there are many things I would like to eat but don't prepare. The best thing is that over the past couple of years, I only prepare one evening meal and let him figure out breakfast and lunch.

Up until very recently, I cooked mainly what dh liked. He has made comments about hating most of what I cook if it is not something he likes BUT, with him not wanting to eat what I cook, claiming he wasn't hungry because he ate at his mom's house or out with friends, I started cooking more of what I like. Why bother cooking food he likes and have him not even eat it. He refuses to eat most left overs. Thankfully son isn't as picky about that as he used to be. Having leftovers for me is great so I don't have to cook every single night, especially on the nights I have class.

I have added something to my mantra Protect your liver, fed your gut, and restore your mitochondria through exercise, eating less, and/or fasting.

Currently reading a book on the importance of healthy mitochondria in terms of energy and cancer prevention.
