LESS Alcohol ~ MARCH 2025 ~ One Day at A Time

Good reminder about what happens when we take a break from exercise @MissMay. I incurred a small injury (lower back) almost two weeks ago and Ice, and the chiropractor had to take the place of the gym. I have been walking but back to the gym tomorrow! Easing back into my workout routine-we think we shouldn’t but in reality it helps healing. I need it.
I track daily/weekly wine stats and have low limits. AF yesterday and today, planning up to 5 for a personal best by this Sunday.7 -
I love your post! Agree a great way to start a new week, or day…..I find I’m much more focused if I think about these, set a plan and make sure I keep them top of mind for overall health!

Sat was a planned drinking night at a party. I had two normal (12oz, ~%4) beers during the gathering. My mistake was to have a whiskey nightcap. I have reduced tolerance from the two past dry months: it kept me up all night. Not worth it!

@Jthanmyfitnesspal your post reminds me I have not put this up in awhile. Hope your sleep has improved since Saturday night.

Good morning everyone!
I've made the decision to become completely AF. My initial goal is to go 90 days AF. But, after that, I will most likely continue because I think those of you that have been around for a while know that moderation doesn't work for me.
Without going into a lot of details, I've been having quite a few physical issues recently, and through research, it turns out that every one of them is related to alcohol consumption. More specifically, the fact that alcohol consumption causes vitamin and mineral deficiencies. I try very hard to eat a healthy diet and then I'm sabotaging myself with daily drinking. Sounds kind of stupid…doesn't it?
Plus, from past experience, I will lose weight quickly, regain my balance and coordination, and have more energy to do the things that I like to do.
So…Day 1 begins! 🙂

@itladyee thank you for the birthday card and the condolences.
@Womona glad the quote thing is working for you. @SurferGirl1982 I didn't realize the quotes are no longer editable, that really is a bummer. I'm with you - I would often edit for just the sentence or two to which I was replying. Congrats to MFP, one step forward, two steps back 😣. At least they have lots of emojis now instead of just the 5 or 6 they used to have.
Welcome to the newcomers: @strong_fit_ells and @connor_manning I think you'll find this to be a very friendly and supportive crowd no matter where you are in your LA or AF journey.
@MissMay that two-week stat is really frightening me; I've been missing the gym a lot over the last two months. Hopefully when I get back from vacation in a couple of weeks (leaving next Tues and will be gone about 10 days) I will get back into a regular routine again.

@NonnieDoiron and @globalhiker the street next to us used to have litter sign that was oddly specific, it said the littering fine was $1039.50, yes it actually said 50 cents! It was just replace about 6 months ago with a new sign that now says "over $1000.00". I guess that way they can keep changing the fine without changing a bunch of signs.

@SurferGirl1982 Good luck to you. Use every tool in your toolbox to stay sober. I love the YouTube, "Getting Sober…Again." with Jae. He's great and encouraging. If you can't do it on your own, ask for help, there is NO shame in that. Also, tell your husband to stop buying you booze. That's where I would start.
I'm on Day 11 AF. I was feeling a little…not tempted….IDK what it was, maybe a massive sugar craving. I didn't drink any alcohol but I had a banana split for dinner! It was worth every calorie.
I got my blood work back today and she said everything looked very good. I am grateful.

Hi,
I just started back using MFP. I want to drink less as it clearly affects all aspects of wellbeing in one way or another.Start day yesterday. March 11
AF 2One question how do I make this show up in my groups? I did not see any star ⭐️ in the right corner of the thread.

@SunnyDays930 Thanks! I made the decision to become AF because I felt like it was a matter of life or death. A person can only push their bodies so far. And I prefer life over death!
I have watched one or two of the videos on YouTube, "Getting Sober…Again." I plan on watching more.
I told my husband that I was done drinking last night. The only time he would buy alcohol for me is when I asked him to go for me. Usually because I had already been drinking.
I believe that I will be successful because I'm just downright "scared". I've known two older men that have bled out in their sleep and died, I had a neighbor who died from cirrhosis around a year or so ago. And, my good friend's husband (who had been drinking beer heavily for years) ended up last July with that disease, Wernicke encephalopathy (I guess some call it wet brain) that is caused by an extreme B1 deficiency that alcoholics experience. He didn't even know where he was and was tapping on a fly swatter thinking it was his tablet. She called 911. He hasn't drank since then and she says he's doing well.
It's just too scary to continue drinking. It's like playing Russian roulette.
I'm happy for you that your lab work came back normal 👍

@SunnyDays930 I just reread your post and noticed that you are on Day 11 AF. WTG!

I wanted to check in sooner today but wasn't able to get myself out of bed before having to hit the road for work. I'm trying to get in the routine of waking up earlier so I can check in with everybody!
Was able to go another day without alcohol today so that makes 4 days in a row. Though I did go to the grocery store and get a 6 pack of "alcohol-free" coronas. Does that still count? I feel like that still counts.
Anyways, I'll be here to check in bright and early in the morning
9 -
@connor_manning Yes, the AF Corona's do count since they contain no alcohol. Keep up the good work!

@connor_manning AF beer is AF and LOTS of us drink that. That is not "cheating". You would still consider that a AF day if you are keeping track.
I have never been a big beer fan, but I will order one of these every once in a while. AF wine, to me is like, woof. I have not found one I can tolerate. I'd rather have a seltzer.
March 1 A
March 2-12 AF
Banana Splits 2 😀

Does anybody have any other AF suggestions they found they enjoy? I've been drinking a ton of water, like a gallon a day, but I do enjoy being able to have something different at night just to relax.

Day 1 AF done! I have no alcohol in the house and the liquor store is closed YAY!
March (thru 3/12):
AF - 1 … A - 11

@connor_manning Look up non alcohol alternatives on line. There are countless ideas. My personal go-to is a glass of cherry or lime flavored seltzer with a small splash of the cherry juice from a jar of maraschino cherries, a cherry and a lime slice. I like having this in a pretty glass. It is delicious. When I go to a bar with my husband I will sometimes ask the bartender for a bartender's choice mocktail. The good bartenders are creative and I have had some delicious surprises. The other day I had something she called Mermaid's dream. It was blue with sparkles in it. I have no idea what was in it but it was yummy. The point is you don't need to suffer with a boring drink. You can still be part of the party whether at home or out!
6 -
@SurferGirl1982 Yay for you! Just take it hour by hour, day by day. Do NOT think about forever, or even a week. I find days 3-10 are the most challenging. Re read everything @MissMay has listed in the beginning of the thread and see if any of those tips or books are of interest to you. Above all, don't be discouraged. It takes a long time to break a years long habit. You've got this!

Hi, I love this question. @SunnyDays930 nailed this answer. YOU can be a huge part of a gathering, party, festivity or for the moment, just like everyone else with a bit of LESS alcohol creativeness.
I personally start with the beverage holder. Go classy, elegant or extravagant (no red solo cups and no give away pint glasses from a dive bar)
Stay away from soda straws. Beautiful garnishes are always a hit.
People will comment on your fancy glass, if at all, before asking what your drinking.
Its your beverage GO FOR IT your way. Your not alone in this journey.

@globalhiker 4 pounds since January is a sensible amount to shed. More likely for you to keep it off.
Question: do you ever hear from Dawn. I was thinking of her recently and hoped she was doing well.

Welcome all new LA friends!
Quick check in…..My very elderly mom tripped on a curb and fell down a few days ago and I’m managing from afar. Surprisingly, she didn’t fracture anything. I did have some internal stress over this like what if this is it?! So I had some wine last night instead of waiting for today - but stayed at my limit which comes easier these days.
My DH and I will go see her next week and do some more home assessments and help organize some. Now I’m off to the gym for a brand new class called BodyBalance - a blend of Pilates, Yoga and Tai Chi.
Current:
AF - 6
A - 7
7 -
P.S. my new habit is to make a specialty low calorie NA drink most days at dinner hour. I used to mindlessly pour a glass of wine - there really are endless options with juices, sparkling waters and fresh citrus. Also the Recess NA bev’s are good or sparkling teas at Trader Joe’s.

March Madness! Goal 50% AF (AF=16 A=15)
Planned March Events that might include Alcohol
3/12 ~ Bookclub
3/28 ~ ConcertWith this upgrade, I'm finding it very difficult to update my post and keep the spoilers so you don't have to scroll through all my history. Seems I'm going to have to move those details to offline, otherwise it will take me hours to recreate each time.
Monthly Stats - On Target
AF = 4
A = 8
Current Streak - AF = 0
Longest Streak - AF = 8Book club was fun last night. We read the book The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. So good, I couldn't stop. Two glasses of wine, now time to get back on the AF train despite stressful events going on
Julian is still acting out. I guess he had been ok for a while, but today, while at the doctor for Julian, he threw his boot at André and hit him in the face! I don't know how I can realistically help. I can spend time with Julian, but that won't solve the issue.
Then there's my sister….. I do have my wine to escape, if only for a short while. I need to find other ways to find mental peace.
@SunnyDays930 ~ Congrats on your progress! You are doing well!
@SurferGirl1982 ~ Wishing you success on your journey!
@connor_manning ~ Great work!
@Michieb125 ~ glad your mom didn't fracture anything. Very scary I'm sure. Hope she's doing better.
Welcome new members!!
