New-ish

Hi! I go by TeeTee I am a 35 year old mom of 2. I originally downloaded this app after significantly gaining weight (gained 50# in 7 months) primarily from a dental emergency left me near death and without my top teeth. I was only able to eat soft foods and ultimately I didn't make the better choices. I tried to learn to just love myself at 185lbs and didn't stick with the app because I wasn't ready to actually make the diet changes necessary to take control. It's been a few years since then but after stressful life events over the last 18 months I've gained an additional 40lbs and am I sick and tired of being sick and tired of myself. I have given myself a year to show improved progress. I've set my weight goal to 175lbs, 50lb loss goal. In a perfect world I wish to be 135lbs again but that feels like a set up for failure this early on with so many changes to make. While MFP is set to 1200cal Ive told myself as long as I'm under 1500 I'm doing very well and should be on track to meet my goal in 1 year. I don't intend to become obsessed with what's going on with the numbers on a scale, I'm not even going to weigh myself for 6 months if I can avoid it. While I do want to lose weight my ultimate goals are improving day time energy, improved sleep, better nutrition and relationship with food and activity, strength and health. Regardless of the number on the scale.
I've also been pretty sedentary. I used to be very active but even trying to do things I enjoy has become challenging. I tried a 20 minute YT workout and felt very discouraged. Squats, sit ups and exercise on the floor are nearly impossible, my left hip pops a lot and it feels like I'm on the verge of slipping of disk if I sneeze. I'm going at that aspect slower, taking a few extra laps up and down the stairs through the day, taking a walk to pick my kid up from school, dancing, knee highs, butt kicks, arm circles and sky reaches etc. just getting my body moving more than it has been and trying to work up a sweat. I'm not tracking exercise or how many calories I burn, counting what goes in and learning to eat well feels manageable, everything else feels overwhelming. One thing at a time!
I hope to find other people with similar goals and mentality around how to achieve their goals to share experiences, meals, exercises, and even challenges openly and without judgement. I don't necessarily want an echo chamber but I also don't want a gym rat telling me I need to do 5 minute wall sits and run 12 miles a day and lift weights, when I'm doing good to carry the weight of my own self around. I'm not ready for that kind of motivation or disappointment.

Welcome to mfp. Making small realistic goals is wise. The key to success is making life changes that you can maintain. I am disabled so an ambitious fitness routine was not the right path for me. Right now I'm just actively fidgeting to get as much movement in as i can. Personally I'd like to get down to 140 lbs but starting at 245, 105lbs is a bit daunting. My first goal was to get to the point where I lost weight last time around 216. I've just hit that. My next goal is 200.
You are welcome to join my community. I'm active almost daily and there are others who are pretty active to. We'll be happy to give you the support you need. We can do this together a little bit at a time.
